Davnet signs up for online Olympic coverage
      William Maher
      10/08/2000 09:39 AM

Businesses will soon have Olympic Games footage available on their PC screens courtesy of data provider Davnet, according to a statement issued today.

Access1 claims the voice and data carrier has signed up for its streaming video service, which includes Olympic coverage from the Seven Network`s pay TV arm C7. C7 will be targeting its games coverage at people who don`t have access to a television during the day.

The coverage will be available to Davnet`s 13,000 corporate clients in CBD areas of Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane. Footage will be delivered via the same Ethernet socket Davnet customers use for Internet and voice calls.

Access1`s service includes "TV-like" channels that can be delivered via satellite, HFC cable or even ADSL. As well as Olympic coverage, Davnet has the rights to deliver other Access1 "channels" including Bloomberg finance news.

Access1 already claims Telstra may deliver its video service to cable customers and possibly even ADSL customers. Telstra officials denied a deal had been struck, but said it is "looking" at the service.

      Thursday 10 August 2000

Access1 has extended its distribution base to the corporate market after yesterday signing a content deal with the corporate telecommunications business Davnet.

Access1 will provide its AccessTV content, which includes the Seven Network`s two Olympic Games channels and its sports channel C7, to businesses connected to the Davnet network.

Access1 executive chairman David Spence said Davnet`s business customers would also have access to its NetCourier service, which distributes large files to computers that would otherwise be sent on CDs or print.

He said revenues gained from subscriptions to the AccessTV channels, NetCourier fees and advertising, would be shared by the companies.

"Interactive full motion advertisements are served each time a customer accesses the channels," he said.

"As each customer has an individual address, the ad can be focused to demographics and to individual users, giving advertisers the ability to target their advertising and pay only when it is served to that target audience."

Mr Spence said the Davnet deal complemented an earlier agreement with Telstra`s Big Pond Advance broadband service, which focuses on the residential market.

DAVID Spence`s satellite internet service Access1 and niche telecommunications carrier Davnet have struck a deal to send broadband content into the many of the nation`s largest office towers.

Under the deal, announced after the share market closed yesterday, Access1`s programing and services will be sold into office buildings wired by Davnet`s offshoot, Davnet Telecommunications.
Access1 sells internet access and other services over a satellite distribution network using subscription television channels to drive sales.

It carries the Bloomberg business news channel and Seven Network pay TV offshoot C7`s two AFL-dominated sports channels and its two Olympics channels, and is said to be negotiating to carry Sky News.

The latest deal follows last month`s agreement with Telstra for Access1 to deliver its subscription television content on Telstra`s estimated 40,000 high-speed internet customers for the next 18 months with an 18-month extension.

"We`ve got a residential service, we have a deal with Telstra`s Big Pond Advance, and now we have some of the biggest buildings in the country," Mr Spence said.

"It rounds out the distribution channels for us, it gives us full coverage in most capital cities."

      Davnet Buys ACCESS1 Content

      August 9, 2000

Davnet Telecommunications Ltd (DVT) today announced it has
entered into an agreement with Access1 Ltd (ACC) whereby, ACC
would provide content such as AccessTV and Netcourier to its
      customers.

AccessTV is Access1`s broadband content service that delivers
TV-like channels direct to PCs and currently includes 2 channels of
the Sydney 2000 Olympic games, Bloomberg Television and C7.
NetCourier is the distribution of large files that contain pictures or
video that until now have required physical distribution via CD, disk
      or print.

The company said revenue generated from delivery of the services
would be shared with Access1. ACC recently announced a similar
      agreement with Telstra.

DVT closed 1 cent stronger at $1 whilst ACC jumped 10 cents to 80
      cents.

      Punter Report:
Just in case any of the Punter readers missed in on the chat lines today, The Punter thought you may be interested in the following announcement.

The Directors are pleased to announce that a content distribution agreement has been entered into with Davnet Telecommunications.

Under this agreement Davnet customers will be able to receive Access1 services including AccessTV and Netcourier.

AccessTV is Access1`s broadband content service that delivers TV-like channels direct to PCs. Currently, this content includes 2 channels of the Sydney 2000 Olympic games,
Bloomberg Television and C7, the specialist sports channel which carries all major sports, including all AFL games. Further channels in negotiation include technology training,
seminar and conferences, music and adult services, all delivered in TV quality vision direct to the desktop.

NetCourier is the distribution of large files that contain pictures or video that until now have required physical distribution via CD, disk or print. It can also be used for software
downloads, distribution of e-books, including annual reports, investor research or sales material.

The Agreement with Davnet follows a similar agreement with Telstra to deliver these services to their almost 40,000 Big Pond Advance customers.

Both the Telstra agreement, which addresses the residential market and the Davnet agreement which is focused to CBD corporate customers, are the first steps in a strategy to
deliver the range of Access1`s multimedia services across all networks, regardless of the technology employed.

The Access1 national satellite network will complement the other technologies and networks by delivering the services where these do not exist.

The delivery of Access1 services to all broadband networks throughout Australia is a key objective for the Company.

Revenue generated from delivery of these services will be shared between Access1 and Davnet.

The revenue will come from subscriptions to the AccessTV channels, NetCourier fees and importantly from advertising. Interactive full motion advertisements are served each
time a customer accesses the channels.

As each customer has an individual IP address, the advertisement can be focused to demographics and to individual users, giving advertisers the ability to target their
advertising and pay only when it is served to that target audience.

As the AccessTV is multicast, the delivery costs, of these services, remain virtually unchanged as the viewer numbers increase, it is only revenue that changes.
