UPDATE 1-Fischer Tech to raise S$19 mln in S`pore IPO

SINGAPORE, June 21 (Reuters) - Fischer Tech Ltd, a supplier to personal digital assistant maker Palm Inc (NASDAQ:PALM), said on Thursday it would offer 54 million new shares at S$0.38 each for a listing on the Singapore Exchange main board.





Fischer, a manufacturer of plastic components for electronics products, said the offer was about 25.5 percent of its enlarged share capital. The offer will close on July 2 and trading in the shares is set to start on July 4.





The offer comprises two million shares for the public and 52 million for placement. The issue is priced at a historical price/earnings ratio of 4.9 times.





Proceeds of about S$19 million ($10.5 million) will be used to buy machinery and a factory, as well as for general working capital. Vickers Ballas is the lead manager for the issue.





Vickers said the shares were priced at 10.2 times estimated net earnings for 2002.





Fischer`s top three customers are Palm, Handspring Inc (NASDAQ:HAND) and Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HWP). Palm contributed 52 percent of the Singapore company`s revenues of S$81.52 million last year.





Fischer, whose name was chosen by founder Peter Tan in admiration of U.S. chess master Bobby Fischer, had net profit of S$12.22 million for the year ended March 31 -- more than double the S$5.44 million in the previous fiscal year.





Chairman Foo Meng Tong told reporters Fischer`s results would be affected by a drop in contract value in the near term and a compression of margins after Palm cut its profit forecast.





"We are feeling it but they are not our only customers," Foo said, adding that Fischer was trying to counter the impact by diversifying its product base into the automotive market.





He said Fischer would try to maintain gross operating margin of 30 percent and revenue growth of about 32 percent this year.

Sanford Bernstein bekräftigt sein Outperform Rating mit Kursziel $20 für Palm. Trotz der momentan anfallenden Kosten für die Bereinigung der Läger würde das Analystenhaus aktuell auf der Käuferseite stehen. Palm`s neue Produktreihen sollen sich gut verkaufen und die Konkurrenz übertreffen. Des weiteren rechnet Bernstein mit einer Beschleinigung des Umsatzwachstums im Vorfeld der Holiday Saison. Palm befindet sich aktuell mit 9,4% im Plus.
