wie US Airways.

neueste Nachricht vom 16.9.05 21.49 Uhr:

US Airways cleared to exit bankruptcy
Friday September 16, 4:48 pm ET
By John Crawley
ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (Reuters) - A federal judge on Friday approved US Airways` plan to exit bankruptcy and merge with America West Airlines Inc. (NYSE: AWA - News), capping US Airways` second bankruptcy restructuring in three years.
Judge Stephen Mitchell of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia signed off on the deal, which will create the fifth-largest domestic airline by passenger volume.
The parties must wait 10 days to close the transaction. It could take two years to combine operations.
"I have every hope and confidence that the new airline will prosper in the future," Mitchell said before confirming the business plan. Mitchell presided over both US Airways bankruptcies, the first ending in early 2003.
US Airways (OTC BB: UAIRQ.OB - News) says the merged company will have $2.5 billion in cash, including restricted amounts. The merger anticipates oil prices of $58 per barrel in 2006 and $57 per barrel in 2007. Oil was trading around $63 a barrel on Friday.
"With the financial position of other carriers deteriorating, we are pleased we will have a very strong cash position, a robust business plan, a low-cost structure and a strong network," said Bruce Lakefield, US Airways chief executive and soon to be vice chairman of the merged airline.
Other top U.S. airlines in bankruptcy are Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL - News), Northwest Airlines Corp. (NasdaqNM: NWAC - News) and United Airlines, the main unit of UAL Corp. (OTC BB: UALAQ.OB - News).
The merged airline will fly under the US Airways flag and be based at America West headquarters in Tempe, Arizona.
Lakefield said US Airways would compete with low-cost rivals, even with fuel near record highs. "Ticket prices are going up," he said. "You have to pay for the product."
America West stock closed up 55 cents, or 7.9 percent, at $7.51 on the New York Stock Exchange.
Creditors of US Airways, shareholders of America West and key federal agencies have also cleared the deal.
Mitchell also granted US Airways` request -- over union objections -- for a severance plan for officers worth up to $12 million. Lakefield would be eligible for $1.7 million in any severance payout.
Lakefield noted the sacrifices of employees -- $1.1 billion in annual concessions -- but said there are acceptable levels of severance for executives throughout the industry. "I think we worked very hard for that," Lakefield said.
Few executives at US Airways will hold long-term jobs at the new airline.
Private investors will own 52 percent of the merged airline after committing more than $565 million. Investments by suppliers and vendors boost the merger value to more than $1.5 billion. General shareholders of the current US Airways get nothing in the deal. Shareholders of America West get 37 percent of the new company and unsecured creditors get about 12 percent.
Bankruptcy and industry experts said US Airways was successful partly because it had a plan from the start, acted quickly and avoided serious labor trouble during its year-long second court restructuring.
US Airways slashed wages, terminated pensions, cut its fleet and reworked leases. It also consolidated operations, adopted a new pricing structure and reduced capacity in under performing markets. It shed 8,000 jobs but about 22,000 will move to the new airline.
Industry fare guru Terry Trippler suggested last December when US Airways was struggling badly that the industry could "stick a fork" in the carrier because it "was done." But he was more than happy to eat his words. "This is the most determined group of survivors I have ever seen," Trippler said. "This really could be the airline of the future - a true hybrid."
The new US Airways will embrace operating strategies of low-cost carriers but also offer international service and some amenities. Trippler says airlines will have to raise fares to survive. "If they think they can fly through this (high fuel costs) they`re kidding themselves," he said.

Danke @benefactor

Danke an benefactor.
Jetzt in Frankfurt 0,28.
Wer weiß mehr?

[I"]Wieso sollen die Shareholder nichts bekommen?"[/I]

Wo müsste man da einsteigen?

weiterhin bestehen bleibt.
