Technical Breakout: OpenTV Corp.

Boston, May 23, 2001 (Midnight Trader via COMTEX) -- OpenTV (OPTV) gained more
than 30% on Tuesday after it announced after the close on Monday that its
middleware has been deployed in 16 million digital set-top boxes around the
world. The news helped the stock jump over $3 and with volume of over 10 times
the 50-day average. The jump moved the stock closer to the 50-day MA, but also
left a large gap between the $10 level and $12.75. The $10 level is reaffirmed
now as a strong support level. Some consolidation can be expected in the next
few sessions and even perhaps a move to close the gap, but as the 50-day MA
turns upward a further move higher can be expected in the mid-term. The stock
will first find resistance at $15, with stronger resistance at $20. The stock is
falling on 18,483 Island shares.

Press Release
OpenTV and Predictive Networks Partner to Manage and Deliver Targeted Advertising to Interactive Television Applications
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. & CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 2001--OpenTV (Nasdaq:OPTV <http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=optv&d=t> - news </n/o/optv.html>; AEX:OPTV), the world`s leading interactive television (iTV) and media solutions company, and Predictive Networks, creator of anonymous, behavioral models of user preferences and affinities for iTV, today announced a partnership to empower network operators, content providers and advertisers to understand and reach individual TV viewers with unprecedented levels of precision, while adhering to strict user-privacy standards.
The partnership is expected to enable the management and delivery of highly targeted and personalized advertisements into interactive applications from OpenTV and its partners.
The partnership incorporates Predictive Networks` ad management and targeted ad delivery tools to OpenTV`s Service Platform Suite, an integrated software solution designed to provide operators with the ability to manage the operational and transactional demands of a full-featured, revenue-generating interactive TV service. Predictive Networks is also developing a set of APIs for application developers to ``advertising-enable`` their applications running on OpenTV`s Service Platform Suite.
OpenTV`s Service Platform Suite offers a turnkey solution for cable, satellite or digital terrestrial network operators that want to quickly launch an iTV service with a full range of applications. Operators can deploy these services across multiple operating systems, middleware and set-top box platforms.
Who is the Viewer?
Predictive Networks` technology solves a major problem facing the iTV industry: who is the viewer -- and what do they want? As the creator of artificial intelligence-based Digital Silhouettes(TM), the company has developed more than 1 million highly detailed and accurate, yet anonymous, profiles of individuals, based on their behavior, preferences and affinities on iTV, as well as Internet and wireless networks.
Viewer privacy is protected by using only random ID numbers -- not personal information -- by discarding all clickstream data after analysis, and by advancing beyond ``opt-in`` approaches to provide viewers with complete control over their identities. The partnership between OpenTV and Predictive Networks comes at a time when many industry analysts are projecting a huge boom in iTV.
According to a report by Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown, iTV is poised for growth because:
Much of the digital broadcast infrastructure is in place, with lower server costs driving broadcasters to compete by delivering more and better content, with vastly increased choice and services
Television is the preferred platform for consumer entertainment and information, and is in much wider use and has a richer user interface for commerce than the PC
E-commerce content and infrastructure built for the Internet is largely complete, and can be easily adapted to iTV
``OpenTV`s Service Platform Suite, enhanced with Predictive Networks` solutions, provides network operators, programmers, and advertisers with the tools to understand their viewers and manage the delivery of ads through interactive television applications on a personalized basis,`` said James F. Brown, OpenTV executive vice president and general manager, OpenTV Interactive.
``This solution is a key link in the interactive TV value chain for OpenTV and is synergistic with the work we are doing with other partners such as Digital Adco`s SpotOn. With Predictive Networks` technology as part of OpenTV`s Service Platform Suite, we believe that interactive television providers will be able to easily add managed revenue-generating advertisements to their services.``
``Deployed worldwide in more than 16 million set-top boxes, and the leader in interactive television on both today`s and tomorrow`s next generation set-top boxes, OpenTV is the ideal partner for Predictive Networks as we strive to deliver technology that will help drive the business of iTV to the next level,`` said Devin Hosea, Predictive Networks president.
``We`re extremely pleased to be selected as a preferred partner for advertising and interactive media technology, and we`re looking forward to applying our technology to further enhance the OpenTV user experience.``

Major League Baseball Players Association and STATS, Inc. Team-Up with OpenTV

``Big League TV by MLBPA`` will be rolled out in three phases over the course of a year. In July 2001, viewers will be able to play interactive fantasy baseball games and retrieve statistics and information. The second phase will empower viewers to interact and compete nationally with millions of other iTV users. Finally, t-commerce functionality will be added in phase three, enabling consumers to purchase their favorite sport items through their television.

``We`re proud to be the first iTV company to launch a fantasy sport series. Linux to challenge Microsoft on TV
By Reuters
Some of the largest makers of chips and interactive television software have teamed up to design Linux-based software for set-top boxes that deliver TV programming into homes, aiming to create a lower-cost product than one from software giant Microsoft.
Motorola and Pace Micro Technology (LSE: PIC.L - news) represent the set-top box makers in the 24-member venture, dubbed TV Linux Alliance.
By creating a standardised framework for Linux-based television software, the alliance hopes to bring the technology to market more quickly and with lower development costs and fewer integration issues than by working alone. "The current operating systems were not particularly built to foresee such developments" as increased processing power and memory capacity, particularly when manufacturers begin adding more networking interfaces and peripheral devices to set-top boxes, said Mitchell Kertzman, chief executive of Liberate Technologies at a news conference.
The alliance includes Microsoft`s rivals in the interactive television market, such as Liberate Technologies, OpenTV and ACTV, in addition to chipmakers like STMicroelectronics, Conexant Systems and Broadcom.
Other participants include network computer manufacturer Sun Microsystems; personal video recorder makers TiVo and ReplayTV; high-speed Internet company ExciteAtHome, whose investors include cable operators AT&T, Comcast and Cox Communications; and Lineo, a developer of Linux operating systems.
Jerry Krasner, executive director of Electronic Market Forecasters noted that the alliance "should keep competition at the operating system layer thriving".
Microsoft, the biggest maker of personal computer software, formally launched its interactive TV software in Portugal earlier this month.

synchronising television programming with online content.

The integration provides ACTV`s enhanced TV and individualised programming
solutions to be available through digital set-tops that use the OpenTV
middleware. The initial integration effort is on the Pace Set-Top Box, and the
companies plan to integrate their combined technologies on additional set-top
boxes over the next several months. OpenTV`s interactive television middleware

Partnership Expected to Combine Interactive Television With Multi-Platform Instant Messaging Technology in China
SHENZHEN, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 26, 2001-- OpenTV (Nasdaq and AEX: OPTV), the world`s leading interactive television and media solutions company, and Tencent, the service provider behind China`s most popular instant messaging service, ``QQ,`` are joining forces to develop interactive TV and instant messaging services to be delivered to TV network operators and their subscribers in China.

The solution to be developed by OpenTV and Tencent is expected to provide TV network operators the option of launching a service that will allow subscribers to send and receive messages between televisions and other devices such as mobile phones, PCs and wireless pagers. Once developed, this solution would give TV network operators in China an opportunity to allow viewers to access instant messaging services from the TV set and thereby enable a more interactive program viewing experience.

``As a communication tool, instant messaging has grown at a considerable pace in China. By linking this growing market with the television, we believe we can offer network operators an important new value-add application with the ability to attract and retain new subscribers and generate new revenues,`` said James Ackerman, CEO of OpenTV.

Pony Ma, CEO of Tencent, said, ``QQ is growing rapidly and we continuously explore ways to better serve our customers. Tencent is now developing technology and services to allow QQ to be accessed across multiple platforms, including the PC, mobile and, now, television environments. Tencent is China`s leading instant messaging services provider, with its QQ platform serving over 18 million active users. Over 500 million messages are currently delivered across the QQ platform on a daily basis. OpenTV has been building up partnerships in Asia Pacific since 1998 and is the most widely deployed interactive television solution in the region. OpenTV currently has 12 cable, satellite, digital terrestrial and ADSL network partners in Asia.

OpenTV Delivers the Most Robust Interactive TV Service to Date on the Most Widely Deployed Digital Set Top Box in North America

Deployment in Northern California Features 29 Interactive Applications on Motorola DCT-2000 Boxes
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 2001-- OpenTV (NASDAQ:OPTV - news; Euronext Amsterdam:OPTV), the world`s leading interactive television and media solutions company, and USA Media Group today announced the deployment of the most in-depth interactive TV (iTV) content package available to U.S. cable operators using the Motorola DCT-2000 set-top box.

USA Media Group`s iTV deployment in Half Moon Bay, Calif. features 29 interactive applications including e-mail, instant messaging, shopping, nine games, news, weather and sports all running on today`s most widely deployed digital set-top box.

``OpenTV has taken everything it has learned from delivering interactive television to more than 16 million satellite and cable set tops worldwide and applied that expertise to squeeze enough power out of the DCT-2000 to deploy a broad suite of interactive content that includes all the major elements of a mature iTV solution,`` said OpenTV CEO James Ackerman. ``Until now, many believed that sophisticated interactive content was possible only on advanced set tops. This deployment should dispel that belief. In light of the fact that more than 14 million DCT-2000 boxes have already been deployed, OpenTV has now demonstrated the ability of our software to support a full market roll out of interactive television to the North American cable market.``

OpenTV`s interactive television content package for Half Moon Bay includes a wide range of interactive services. USA Media Group will be the first U.S. MSO offering Static`s Playjam, the world`s most successful iTV entertainment and games channel. The OpenTV platform features nine games including a fun children`s game, `Nutz,` and `Headfunk,` a game of strategy and memory as well as other games from LudiTV.

In addition to playing games, a viewer will be able to send instant messages and e-mails to friends while watching TV. That same viewer can order pizza from a local pizzeria or CDs from e-tailer The CD Store. Local weather, stock quotes and stock portfolio information is available at the touch of a button. Children can learn about Stegosaurus while watching Discovery Network`s `Walking with the Dinosaurs,` and parents can play along with `Hollywood Showdown,` from the Game Show Network.

``This is the most sophisticated package of interactive programming options for customers deployed on a DCT-2000 anywhere in the U.S.,`` said Jim Faircloth, president and COO of USA Media Group. ``Our customers are very discriminating shoppers, and it is more important than ever to give them unique and compelling entertainment options. Since we were able to do this using our existing set tops, interactive television became a very strong business proposition for us.``

Full Line of iTV Applications on the DCT-2000

OpenTV`s full service of 29 iTV applications on the DCT-2000 in Half Moon Bay include a variety of interactive games from Static 2358`s Playjam and LudiTV. Along with `Headfunk` and `Nutz,` the other Static games are `Big Night Out,` which tests your skills at maneuvering a character on the screen, and `Push My Buttons,` a pop culture trivia game.

Featured games from LudiTV are `Solitaire,` popular arcade games `Bowling` and `Bomber,` `Mike the Flea,` which challenges your memory skills, and a game of hoops with `Dunk.`

In addition to the enhanced TV content with Discovery Networks and the Game Show Network, cable viewers will also have on-demand access to local movie listings, a dining guide of regional restaurants, an events calendar of what`s happening around their community, local weather and the California Lottery.

Instant access to the latest business and sports news is also available through Reuters, Accuweather, Bloomberg News and Big League TV. On June 23, OpenTV announced that it would acquire London-based Static, a privately-held leading iTV media and entertainment applications company. Static provides multiple-platform iTV application development expertise, broadcast design services for TV networks, and owns and operates the world`s most widely-distributed iTV entertainment and games channel, PlayJam. Network operators carrying PlayJam include BSkyB, TPS, Canal Satellite, ntl, and Telewest. The acquisition closed on July 2.
This week, OpenTV announced that it has successfully launched a comprehensive suite of two-way interactive TV applications on USA Media Group`s Half Moon Bay, California network. Twenty-nine iTV applications - including commerce, email, instant messaging, interactive games, on-demand news and information, and enhanced TV - are available on the DCT-2000 set-top box, which is the most widely-deployed digital TV set-top box in the U.S. cable industry. The applications utilize the network`s existing back-channel infrastructure while delivering rich, two-way interactivity, and many of these applications leverage Internet-based content in delivering a TV-centric interactive experience.
Recently, OpenTV and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) demonstrated the strength of viewer demand for innovative iTV content and services. Supported by OpenTV products and services, the BBC provided BSkyB digital satellite subscribers viewing the BBC`s coverage of the Wimbledon Championships, 2001 (June 25 - July 8) the ability to choose the match they wanted to watch from a selection of five courts simultaneously. The response to the BBC`s OpenTV-enabled iTV Wimbledon coverage was unprecedented, as two-thirds of all those watching Wimbledon through BSkyB accessed the interactive features during the course of the first week, and the interactive service averaged close to one million users per day throughout the tournament.

Cauley Geller Bowman & Coates, LLP Announces Class Action Lawsuit Against OpenTV Corp. Seeking Damages on Behalf of Investors
        TUESDAY, JULY 31, 2001 1:27 PM
 - PRNewswire

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Jul 31, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The Law Firm of Cauley Geller Bowman & Coates, LLP announced today that a class action has been filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on behalf of purchasers of OpenTV Corp. (Nasdaq:OPTV) ("OpenTV" or the "Company") securities during the period between November 22, 1999 and December 6, 2000, inclusive (the "Class Period"). A copy of the complaint filed in this action is available from the Court, or can be viewed on the firm`s website at http://www.classlawyer.com/pr/opentv.pdf .

The complaint charges defendants OpenTV, Merrill Lynch, Pierce Fenner & Smith Inc. ("Merrill Lynch"), Goldman Sachs & Co. ("Goldman Sachs"), Jan Steenkamp and Randall S. Livingston with violations of Sections 11, 12(a) (2) and 15 of the Securities Act of 1933 and Section 10(b) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Rule 10b-5 promulgated thereunder. On or about November 22, 1999, OpenTV commenced an initial public offering of 7.5 million of its shares of common stock at an offering price of $20.00 per share (the "OpenTV IPO"). In connection therewith, OpenTV filed a registration statement, which incorporated a prospectus (the "Prospectus"), with the SEC. The complaint further alleges that the Prospectus was materially false and misleading because it failed to disclose, among other things, that (i) the Underwriter Defendants (Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs) had solicited and received excessive and undisclosed commissions from certain investors in exchange for which the Underwriter Defendants allocated to those investors material portions of the restricted number of OpenTV shares issued in connection with the OpenTV IPO; and (ii) the Underwriter Defendants had entered into agreements with customers whereby the Underwriter Defendants agreed to allocate OpenTV shares to those customers in the OpenTV IPO in exchange for which the customers agreed to purchase additional OpenTV shares in the aftermarket at pre-determined prices.

If you bought the securities of OpenTV between November 22, 1999 and December 6, 2000, inclusive, you may, no later than October 1, 2001 request that the Court appoint you as lead plaintiff. In order to be appointed lead plaintiff, the Court must determine that the class member`s claim is typical of the claims of other class members, and that the class member will adequately represent the class. Under certain circumstances, one or more class members may together serve as "lead plaintiff." Your ability to share in any recovery is not, however, affected by the decision whether or not to serve as a lead plaintiff. You may retain Cauley Geller Bowman & Coates, LLP, or other counsel of your choice, to serve as your counsel in this action.

Schönen Tag noch, ilu.
Wohin geht der Kurs heute?

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov 13, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- OpenTV (Nasdaq: OPTV chart, msgs) and (EURONEXT:OPTV), the world`s leading interactive television company, today announced that it has formed a strategic alliance with Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Limited, the world`s largest consumer electronics company best known outside Japan by its Panasonic brand name, to develop jointly an interactive solution that supports the current Japanese digital broadcasting standards.

Matsushita has selected OpenTV`s HTML technology, Device Mosaic, to develop a new solution-- an integrated browser comprised of HTML and BML technology-- for enhanced on demand interactive applications that are BML compliant. BML is Japan`s standards mark up language for the digital broadcast industry.

"OpenTV is honored to have been selected by Matsushita, respected around the world as a leading consumer electronics manufacturer, to develop jointly an interactive television solution for Japan that we feel will accelerate the deployment of interactive TV," said James Ackerman, OpenTV CEO. "We believe the Japanese market with 50 million television households made up of consumers who are adept at responding to new technologies will respond very positively to the opportunity to enhance their digital television viewing experience."

Mr. Fujio Nakajima, Director of the DTV Network Solution Center, AVC, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., commented, "Through this alliance, we will jointly develop software optimized for the Japanese market by integrating OpenTV`s latest HTML technology and Matsushita`s latest BML-related technology, and plan to convert industry standard technology into products ahead of other companies. This alliance builds on an existing relationship in which OpenTV and Matsushita have already joined forces in developing interactive TV solutions for UK`s BSkyB and for a DVB/MHP solution, a new digital broadcasting standard in the European market."

Jeff Brown, Asia Pacific Managing Director of OpenTV, commented, "OpenTV has been active in adapting its technology to meet Japanese standards since March 2000 when we joined ARIB. OpenTV has joined forces with Matsushita to develop a new technology based upon the HTML engine Device Mosaic. We believe this is an important first step, providing Japanese operators with our complete end-to-end iTV solution. We look forward to continuing to develop our relationship with Matsushita in Japan and throughout the world."

Through this strategic alliance, the two companies will integrate OpenTV`s latest HTML technology and Matsushita`s BML technology to develop jointly data broadcasting-related software, including a browser that can be used in BML digital satellite broadcasting technology stipulated by the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB), the next 110-degree CS broadcasting technology, and the cumulative type data broadcasting offered by ep Co., Ltd. in which Matsushita has a stake. They expect to provide TV and set-top box manufacturers that produce products for digital satellite broadcasting, 110-degree CS broadcasting, and ep Co., Ltd. with software and middleware solutions by March 2002. ep Co., Ltd. is headquartered in Chuo-ward, Tokyo and is headed by President Chosaku Toda.

Kunden durchbrochen. Dies impliziere, dass im Märzquartal 2 Mio. Neukunden hinzugewonnen worden sein. Momentan habe man 25,5 Mio. Geräte in Betrieb.
