      Hallo Leute!

weeks. This stock is a prime candidate for a major rise. With the media metrix report out on the 21st we should see an upgrade just around the corner. I have been keeping an eye on TGLO the last month and a half and see no downside further than 9 and major major upside when an upgrade comes or buyout rumor or even earnings just around the corner.

I don`t think Goldman Sachs would have underwritten a stock that will fail. He underwrote this stock as well as Geocities that got bought out by YHOO and went from 20 to 130 before they closed out. If you check the Media Metrix report TGLO`s visitation is extremely higher than Geocities. TGLO is a major buyout candidate indeed and will surely be bought out.

My guess is that we will move into the 20`s very soon (like the first week in January), because that is when the cash will come in and the major internet players (YHOO, AOL, etc.) will be concentrating on aquisitions and TGLO will be Number 1 candidate.

      Good luck all.

      Hallo, Leute.

Herzlich willkommen in diesem netten TGLO-Thread.

event. Übernahmephantasie - kann gar nicht verstehen, wie
ruhig es ist. Aber vielleicht sind 200 - 300 % in drei Monaten
      zu wenig ??!.
EGGS müßte von der "4.Quartalsphantasie" profitieren, 25-30 E.
      mein Tip für 01/02 2000 !
Wie seht Ihr meine Einschätzung ?

Muss jetzt auf Achse. Schau, Four Roses.

      Hallo radlhose, hallo four roses!

      (1) Top dog/First Mover
TheGlobe.com ranks signiciantly behind Geocities, Angelfire, Tripod, Xoom.com, and Fortune City in unique monthly visitors according to MediaMetrix with some 3.7M in July 1999 (Geocities had 22.6M, Angelfire 13.4M, Tripod 11.4M, Xoom 8.2M, and Fortune City 5M). They have failed to gain any ground on these properties the last several months.

      (2) Sustainable Advantage
Due to the discrepancy in visitors as well as visitors` "stickiness" (visitors spend an average of 6 minutes per month on TGLO pages compared to 12 minutes for Geocities and 9 minutes for Xoom), TheGlobe.com has little pull with advertisers, their primary source of income.

      (3) Past Share Appreciation
The peak for the stock about 5 minutes after it had its IPO at a split-adjusted price of $45. It has been all downhill from there and it now stands at about $15.

      (4) Good Management/Smart Backing
Management has shown no special talent and the biggest backer, venture capitalist Michael Egan, sold 1/3 of his stake in May.

      (5) Strong Consumer Brand
Free home page = Geocities, not TheGlobe.com.

      (6) Called Overvalued
Quite the contrary, several analysts have recently referred to the stock as "dirt cheap" and "ripe for a takeover."

      Currently:
      Open: $10.00
      Close: $10.00
      Range: $10.25 - $9.75
      Change: $-0.19 (-1.85%)
      Volume: 898000
      Price Move: -1.85% Down
      % over/under 6 month average volume 4.57%Up
      Near 52 Week High: No
      Near 52 Week Low: Yes
      0 Bull(s) to 5 Bear(s)
      RSI Rating: 32.10
      En Fueg-o-meter Color Status: Red

TGLO closed at $10.00 trading 898,000 shares.
The average up cycle is 27.1 % lasting 8.5 days.
The average peak-to-base down cycle is 43.6% lasting 7.9 days.
This means when going up, TGLO will go 27.1% up, and when going down, TGLO will go 43.6% down.
TGLO is breaking out from the current base as follows:
-3.6% above the base of $10.375.
      24 day(s) into its average base-to-peak 9 day cycle.
Based on probability and historical performance TGLO has $30.66 left in its typical upside move.
TGLO has been trending downwards as of late. You should watch this stock like a hawk! Don`t let it slip down!

The MACD indicator requires trending stocks-the longer and stronger the trend the more reliable the MACD indicator will be. TGLO is a good candidate for bearish plays being rated Trending Down and Bearish.

TGLO is bearish. With its price being below both its 10 and 50 Day Moving Averages TGLO has been and continues to be a good candidate for a short position.
Think of moving averages as moving trendlines. They help measure the direction of existing trends and can help determine when a trend change has taken place. Moving averages also act as support and resistance levels.

TGLO made a -1.85% move down on -11.60% of average volume. Volume is the best barometer and without a more polarized move in price or volume today`s action doesn`t present much of a clue for future trading. If TGLO is on a downward trend, the trend could continue. But today`s session could also be attributed to the broader market of to TGLO`s industry. For today`s analysis, rely more heavily on the previous ten day`s action.

Relative Strength is a great indicator. It tells you what kind of pressure--buying or selling--a stock is receiving. TGLO with 32.1 (RSI) is POOR. TGLO RSI is a too low. Look to sell--check the news and chart to see if there is a slump or a major weakness.

TheGlobe.com should be ready for takeoff
      by Lou Ambio
      December 22, 1999 :: 8:30am EDT

As it presently stands, theglobe.com (NASDAQ: TGLO) is the only independent Web site specializing in online communities. Theglobe.com aggregates users around common themes of interest by providing the best in community services, which, in turn, gets users consistently coming back to their site. Furthermore, the company offers a network of e-mail clubs called globeclubs, as well as state-of-the-art website building tools. Theglobe.com Network is comprised of theglobe.com community, leading online game sites HappyPuppy.com, GamesDomain.com, KidsDomain.com and ConsoleDomain.com, and business web hosting property WebJump.com.

Theglobe.com is one of the world`s largest independent community sites and has been a leader in the industry for more than four years. Although the company has been in business for this long, their traffic and membership are still experiencing extraordinary growth. Yesterday, theglobe.com announced that they had experienced 105% growth, according to the November 1999 Media Metrix World Wide Web Audience Ratings Report. Theglobe.com`s network audience reach surged to 7.0% in November`s ranking, and now the company`s community of sites comprises the 39th most visited property on the web. The company believes that their success and growth reflects their consistent strategy of building leading community products and acquiring sites that aggregate users around similar interests.

Simply, the company has had a lot of success in every division of their operations. Theglobe.com`s Game Network made up of KidsDomain, Happy Puppy and GamesDomain grew 69%, 30% and 28% respectively since September, ranking it as the number #2 gaming property behind publishing giant Ziff Davis according to Media Metrix. Furthermore, WebJump, which theglobe acquired last month, provides theglobe.com with an instant presence in the small business and home office web hosting market. Now WebJump has over 625,000 members with WebJump websites, which attract over 1.6 million monthly unique visitors. Finally, E-commerce traffic is up 70% since September as shop.theglobe.com has been very successful this holiday season.

Co-Chief Executive Officer, Stephan Paternot, explained the company`s success saying, "Our network growth of over 105% growth from the beginning of 1999 was largely fueled by strategic acquisitions, key distribution partnerships and the accelerated adaptation of two core community products. We`re excited that the growth of our email clubs and website building tools continue to increase loyalty among existing users and attract new members at a exceedingly rapid pace."

The company seems to have two problems, too many shares and no real forecast for earnings. However, investors must realize that as the only individual community site, TGLO is ripe for a takeover. Furthermore, communities such as Geocities, Xoom, and Angelfire all were acquired at generous valuations, and theglobe`s growth has been much more impressive.

Thank you for your interest in theglobe.com. While it is our internal policy to not specifically comment on movements in stock price or the possibility of future merger or acquisition activity, we feel confident about the long-term growth prospects of the Company, despite recent price fluctuations.

Some of our more recent accomplishments include:

      · The recent acquisition of the assets of WebJump.com, a leader in web hosting services, primarily to businesses and professional webmasters. In addition to bolstering theglobe.com`s business-to-business web service offerings, benefits of this acquisition to theglobe.com are many, including a dramatic expansion in theglobe.com`s ability to reach web-savvy Internet users, as evidenced by the Media Metrix World Wide Web Audience Ratings Report for November. According to this report, theglobe.com achieved combined reach of 7.0% and ranked #39 on Media Metrix Top 50 Properties Rankings in November. This compares to combined reach of 4.9% and a #49 ranking based on the September report. Additional benefits include the significant opportunity to monetize the WebJump.com property via integration of the globeclubs product within the business community, and meaningful revenue and expense synergies.

      · The launch of two exciting new products: globeclubs, a network of e-mail clubs that allow users to create clubs around their favorite topics or issues, and uPublish, a state-of-the-art website builder. With their powerful targeting capabilities, these new products have significantly increased the number of targeted impressions generated--a powerful tool in not only retaining existing advertisers on theglobe.com, but also in attracting new ones.

      · Establishment of significant distribution partnerships with Time Warner`s Road Runner, AOL UK, and OneMain.com (the 6th largest Internet Service Provider in the U.S.), among others, resulting in increased global distribution of theglobe.com`s community services and games content.

      · theglobe.com Network`s gaming properties represent the 2nd largest gaming network based on combined home/work reach according to October 1999 Media Metrix data.

      · 105% year-to-date Network audience growth based on Media Metrix data for January 1999-November 1999, which outpaces the percentage growth of all other leading community sites.

      · The November 8th launch of a new $27 million advertising campaign designed to promote both theglobe.com`s brand and key services and, specifically, to draw attention to theglobe.com`s new globeclubs. The "Build a World Around You" campaign has initially been rolled out in the New York, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta metropolitan markets, and will continue through the fourth quarter of 2000.

      · Continued strong growth in quarterly revenues, including a three-fold year-over-year increase in 3Q99.

Additional information on these accomplishments and other highlights from 3Q99 can be found in the Investor Fact Sheet attached below. We hope you find the information included insightful.

We encourage you to explore our two new products, globeclubs and uPublish, both of which are available at www.theglobe.com. Additionally, please visit our Investor Relations website, where you will find stock quotes, detailed financials, archived news and SEC filings, etc., at www.theglobe.com/about/ and click on "Investor Relations."

Hier ein Artikel aus USA Today:

      As Theglobe.com turns
Disappointment follows Net firm`s dizzying debut

      By Deborah Solomon, USA TODAY

NEW YORK -- For a day in November 1998, a little-known Internet start-up founded by two freshly minted Cornell University graduates was on top of the world -- not to mention Wall Street.

Shares of Theglobe.com soared more than 600% on their Nasdaq debut, smashing previous first-day records and launching the Internet initial public offering craze, which has yet to subside. The founders, barely old enough to drink, became instant millionaires, and their boyish faces were seen grinning on magazine covers and TV shows across the world. Their plan was to run a community Web site where users could participate in online discussion forums, build their own home pages on the Net and chat with one another about common interests.

But that initial burst of glory has begotten more than a year of disappointment as the company failed to live up to the hype. Theglobe, which soared from $9 to $97 its first day of trading, has lost more than 80% of its value since the IPO and is now priced around $8. Many investors cut their losses and moved on to the next new thing.

Theglobe`s fall from dizzying heights serves as a reminder to investors who poured more than $30 billion into Internet start-ups last year that those investments are no better than the underlying business. While profits might not matter the first day, investors eventually want a company to show them the money.

Those familiar with Theglobe say the company, which is not profitable and had $5.5 million in revenue last year, is languishing for several reasons. They include:

Lack of definition about what the company does and who its audience is.

Uncertainty that the business model, which relies on advertising for almost 100% of its revenue, can ever make money. In the latest quarter, Theglobe lost $14 million and generated $4.9 million in revenue instead of the $5.7 million Wall Street was expecting. It has also missed target dates for certain products, including a home-page building tool and a product designed to increase targeted advertising.

Competition from other community sites, such as Yahoo`s GeoCities, which have been snatched up by large portals or have bigger membership bases.

Failure to profit from its 3 million registered members by marketing and offering them rich e-commerce opportunities. It recently began selling limited products on its site and outsourcing some of its services, such as home-page building, but critics say it`s too little, too late.

The problems have caught the attention of investors -- both large and small -- who have whacked Theglobe`s market value from a high of almost $1 billion in November 1998 to $222 million. At least one major institutional investor, Munder NetNet Fund, has pulled out of Theglobe, and others have cut their holdings.

One former Theglobe investor who has soured on the company says the firm hasn`t proved that it can capitalize on its traffic and convert that into revenue.

Theglobe co-founders Stephan Paternot and Todd Krizelman defend the company, saying it is moving aggressively into new revenue-generating areas, such as e-commerce, and is the leader in several categories, such as home-page building. But they admit the rocky stock ride has hurt the company`s image and made it harder to do business.

"We feel there is a major disparity between where the stock has been and the actual performance of the company," Krizelman says. "The potential for profitability is much stronger today than it has ever been." But, he adds, the perception of Theglobe as "this one-day stock wonder" has made it hard for the company to convince some that there is a "great business underneath these numbers."

      Money and magic

Paternot, 25, and Krizelman, 26, dreamed up the idea for a community Web site while undergraduates and have spent the past five years trying to turn it into reality.

After graduating, the two moved the business from Ithaca, N.Y., to Manhattan with $15,000 in funding from friends and family and began to build their business. Former Alamo Rent-A-Car chairman Michael Egan and his investment company, Dancing Bear, originally invested $20 million and own about 30% of the company. Paternot and Krizelman each own about 7%.

They sit in a warehouse-style office just a stone`s throw from Wall Street -- a constant reminder of the stock market that has whittled away the value of their company and the options their employees hold. While aware of the problems facing Theglobe, employees say morale is pretty high, and there is little turnover. They keep their minds occupied by developing new products and playing Ping-Pong and video games. But Krizelman says it`s hard for the staff not to think about the money that`s been lost. "No one likes to see their stock move down. Some people are under water, and some are not," he says. Under water means those employees would pay more to exercise options than the stock is currently worth.

Krizelman and Paternot have seen their own paper wealth plunge. The two, who were worth about $75 million each when the company first went public, are now worth about $15 million apiece. It`s "dissatisfying," Paternot says, but adds that the two didn`t start the business for the money. When the lockup period ended in May, they sold a combined 200,000 shares of Theglobe stock worth $4 million. Egan, chairman of Theglobe, recently sold shares worth $50 million.

Unlike Yahoo and several other Net firms with young founders, Theglobe has not brought on experienced management to run the day-to-day operations. Egan is not involved in the daily operations. "He gives us advice and support, and we talk to him about anything related to equity," Krizelman says. Theglobe did recruit Dean Daniels, a veteran of CBS, as chief operating officer, and their chief financial officer, Frank Joyce, has 20 years of financial experience.

Krizelman bristles at criticism that his and Paternot`s youth may have contributed to the company`s woes. "Being young is not a problem. There`s a desire to put two young guys in a box and say this happened overnight ... but that`s not the case."

What has hurt Theglobe most, they say, is a stock pop that set lofty expectations for investors, who pulled out when they weren`t seeing the revenue they wanted. "We went from obscurity to being well-known because of our IPO. We`re less known for what we`re about," Paternot says. Once people begin to understand what the business is about and how it`s growing, he says, the stock price will turn around.

Egan, who says he`s concerned about the low stock price, admits the company needs to do a better job defining itself.

"We have to be more clear about what our business model is," he says. "Other people have an easier story to tell. Ours is a better story, but it`s not that easily communicated and understood."

      Moving into commerce

To that end, the company launched a $27<TH>million branding campaign last November in Atlanta, New York and Washington, D.C., to tell people about Theglobe. They plan to expand the campaign to other parts of the USA in the future.

Paternot and Krizelman are using the campaign to explain their vision: a virtual town center, where people can come together in cyberspace to exchange ideas. But "in order to have a community site as a business model, you have to have an end goal of commerce in mind," says Safa Rashtchy, an analyst with U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray. "If you`re using your service only to gather people together, it doesn`t lend itself very well" to making money.

Theglobe gets its revenue from selling advertising at prices based on the number of users who visit the site and how long they linger. Most of the advertising is paid for by big names such as Coca-Cola, Charles Schwab and Citibank, but about 4% to 6% is barter advertising -- ads that are not paid for but are displayed in exchange for promoting Theglobe on another site.

While advertising makes up a large chunk of earnings for many Net companies, industry watchers say it`s not sustainable revenue and shouldn`t be a site`s primary way of making money. Even Theglobe acknowledges an ad-based model has its drawbacks. In filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company says if the market for Internet advertising goes south, "our business performance would be materially adversely affected."

Paternot and Krizelman say the company is moving into e-commerce and recently acquired two gaming companies, Attitude Networks and Games UK, that do some online selling. It also paid $20.3 million in stock for Azazz.com, which offers department store products and provides a personal shopping service. Those acquisitions will shift Theglobe`s revenue to 80% advertising and 20% commerce, but Paternot says commerce will always be secondary to advertising. "Our goal is not to become an Amazon on e-commerce," he says, adding that commerce is not likely to exceed 30% of revenue.

      To merge or specialize?

Beyond Wall Street, Theglobe also faces threats from competitors. A number of community sites, such as GeoCities, Tripod and Xoom.com, have been bought by huge portal sites with audiences Theglobe cannot rival. Other sites, such as Talk City, have more members and provide many of the same services as Theglobe.

Some industry watchers say it`s time for Theglobe to sell to a larger site or another business. They say a megaportal, such as Excite At Home, might be a good fit. Others, such as Lehman Bros. analyst Brian Oakes, say Theglobe needs to specialize in a service in order to survive. He points to Talk City, which specializes in chat and sells its service to other sites and businesses that want to do online chat.

Theglobe co-CEOs know they face challenges but say they are trying to jump-start the company with new ideas, new revenue streams and specialized services. The company recently launched an e-mail club service, where users can join a group of people with similar interests, such as movies, and send and receive e-mail about the topic.

Krizelman, who runs an e-mail club for hot-air balloon aficionados, says such clubs plus the home-page-building business will translate into more advertising revenue. As users build more Web pages, they will spend more time at Theglobe site, which is one measure advertisers consider when placing ads. The company also plans to sell its e-mail club service and home-page building tools to other sites and has signed several agreements with sites such as Alloy, which is geared toward teens, and Direct Hit, a search engine.

But while the young executives are optimistic and eager to prove the naysayers wrong, they admit they face an uphill battle. Krizelman said he was glad when VA Linux, which soared 733% in its first day of trading last month, stole the IPO title.

"We don`t want to be known just as a stock," he says. "What Theglobe offers today is better than what it did four or five years ago."

But Krizelman adds that if Theglobe doesn`t become a leader, then the two might get out. "The trick for us is to lead. If you don`t lead, you might as well sell."

It appears that CMGI is very interested in 2 things from TGLO. First and foremost, CMGI wants their gaming properties....ranked second in usage and subscribers. Also, and someone suggested this earlier, CMGI wants TheGlobe`s name!!!! THE GLOBE.com is perhaps the greatest name on the internet and alone is worth $200m! What better name could be more appropriate for CMGI as they pursue their quest to have their paws in every facet of the internet. Brand name is huge on the www and THE GLOBE certainly has it. If their ever was a company that embodies everything the internet was, and is, it is the GLOBE!

      several factors to consider;
      1. possible upgrade by bank of america sec.
      2. rebound after today`s sell off
      3. possible cmgi deal
      4. traffic to tglo web site increasing
      5. probably significantly oversold
      6. shorts eventually have to ante up..

12 or 13 a possibility,, hold on to your hats..

      theglobe has an extraordinary name!
many others would love to own this name. brand names actually do mean a lot in this industry, especially when it comes to recognition. in this case, it sets a perfect global image.
anyway, i think it is definitely time to buy strongly. the company is not stupid, and they know exactly what is going on in the competitive space around them. think about it logically guys! i would buy and hold this stock. never a better time to own tglo at these levels.
      long big time!

TGLO has been basing for the past week or so at $7-$8 range. In the past 2-3 months volume has been very ow which suggests that there are few buyer and sellers of TGLO. In other words there`s no interest in the stock. I believe a majority of the investors who are in TGLO at the moment have either bought the stock below $10; bought the stock higher than $20. Those that have bought in the teens most likely sold prior to the new year for a tax lose.

TGLO in the past week has also broke its downtrend. It should have been in the $6`s by now. Yet, it`s moving up. Moving up on volume also. Volume has been slowly increasing in the past few days. There were day in the past few months where TGLO would not reach 100,000 shares trading hands. But I believe as volume increases, more and more buying interest will come in. I don`t believe we`ll get much people shorting the stock due to the reasons I posted in my previous post. I do believe we will get the novice investors begin to short at $9-10 range. And subsequently they`ll begin to post online.

If TGLO breaks $10 I believe we will be in a substantial uptrend. An uptrend that might even be helped be this CMGI takeover. An uptrend that can be helped be earnings, subsriber growth and revenue!

      Why would CMGI buy TGLO?

TGLO + CMGI + Alta Vista can better compete with the like of YHOO and AOL
CMGI doesn`t have a community website like AOL & YHOO

Earnings are out this Thursday. TGLO is one of the, maybe the most, OVERSOLD Nasdaq stock right now. If any news or substantial rumors start to float out into the media I`m looking for a big up POP in TGLO. I believe it will at least pop up to $20 because that`s what price is floating around. Anything higher then that is gravy.

acquistions (i.e. Webjump) is cansidered a B2B play. Not a B2B the like of Ariba or Verticalnet. But a B2B in long distance, web technicians etc...

What I`ve seen from TGLO in the past few months is a company that has been transforming itself from obtaining revenue from just advertising to a company that`s going into different facets of the internet. The name of the game is to increase exposure and utilize the resources the company has. The major resource the company has right now is its` community base!

I believe this is A reason that TGLO went down from its highs. Analysts believes that TGLO needed to increase the streams of revenue. They are right for that matter. Advertising though is an excellent form of revenue, it`s not the only form/source of revenue for a company like TGLO.

I think TGLO in the past few months has realized the power of a COMMUNITY based web site. TGLO has done something about it. Not by changing its format but buy acquire established businesses that have a following and technology that can be integrated into TGLO`s communities.

Will this integrating pay off? I believe so. It might take a few more quarter but eventually laying down a strong foundation will help produce.

Some of you might not agree with me. That`s alright you have a right to you opinions. But look what has happened in the last few day. The NASDAQ and DOW have sunk while TGLO has risen. Not by much but this could be a very profitable turning point. The market will reward TGLO eventually. They see that TGLO management isn`t sitting on their hands. They see movement and movement in the right direction.

Companies like CMGI see this also. That`s how venture capitalists male money. They see companies that are turning and attack them. Either they compete with them (which is very expense) or they buy them up. Buying TGLO would be a more logical step!!

      Hallo ropi27!

      quarter.....exp....act....diff....%surprise
      12 1999 -0.49 -0.41 0.08 16.33 <= this qtr

      12 1998 -0.33 -0.27 0.06 18.18

update Struggling community site TheGlobe.com said that its co-founders plan to resign as chief executives.

News of the executive shuffle sent the company`s stock down $1.06, or about 12 percent, to $7.94 by the close of trading at 1 p.m. PST.

Todd Krizelman said they will remain on TheGlobe`s board of directors to advise on new products and strategy.

A search for a new chief executive is under way, the two men said in a statement.

At the same time, the company`s chief operating officer, Dean Daniels, has been promoted to president. Daniels, who joined TheGlobe in September 1998, had an extensive career at CBS, where he was responsible for all TV network activity on the Internet.

Paternot and Krizelman said that stepping down as chief executives is a natural progression for a company they say is experiencing revenue growth. They pointed out that their talents as entrepreneurs were well served when they launched TheGlobe.com, but now a more experienced managerial staff would better suit the established company.

"We have always been completely commited to the business," Paternot said in an interview this afternoon. "Our goals are to keep building new products and leave managerial responsibilities as well as our relationships with investors to a more seasoned management."

The two men founded TheGlobe five years ago while still college students at Cornell University. The company went public in November 1998 and was an instant sensation.

Just a year ago, Web communities such as TheGlobe, Xoom.com and Tripod were considered the next big hit. But although the home page sites attract millions of Web publishers, analysts today doubt that personal publishing will survive as a standalone business model.

TheGlobe`s rise and fall is a good example. After its initial public offering of $4.50 a share, the company saw its stock soar to a high of $48.50 on a split-adjusted basis and then plummet to its current trading price, below $10 a share.

Theglobe.com is having growing pains. Its 20-something CEOs are handing over the day-to-day stuff to the grayhairs. The community Web site developer is recreating itself as a hip new-media company.

But Wall Street, where the company is located, doesn`t care a bit. At one investment conference in San Francisco, you could hear a pin drop when Theglobe.com`s executives unveiled their new strategy.

It`s a shame. As Theglobe.com`s stock (TGLO: news, msgs) sinks lower and lower, its content and Web-building tools keep getting better and better. Wall Street is about to find out that Theglobe.com has several patents pending on e-mail-to-banner-ad technology.

Plus, the company`s foray into electronic gaming content and small business tools is giving the lower Manhattan company a reach to millions of new users, Media Metrix figures show.

Alas, Theglobe.com is like a lot of Internet content companies these days -- like Salon.com (SALN: news, msgs), for instance: great articles and breaking news, but investors don`t want to touch the individual stocks.

I talked to Theglobe.com chief operating officer Dean Daniels, who tells me Theglobe.com is making a big bet on folks who buy electronic games. The games review network -- with names like GamesDomain.com, ComputerGamesOnline.com and HappyPuppy.com -- reached 2.7 million people on the Internet in December. That`s more than competitors from CNET (CNET: news, msgs), with its www.Gamecenter.com, and ZDNet (ZDZ: news, msgs), with its www.Gamespot.com, Daniels said.

      Games people play

The games network has product reviews, demos and how-to-features on Nintendo, Playstation, Dreamcast, Windows and Macintosh games. Oh, and great graphics, like "the ultimate goth chic--Hecubah." A physical magazine, Computer Games, has a 250,000 circulation. "Gamers are a loyal audience," says Daniels, who is running the company`s day-to-day operations during the search for a new CEO.

      Theglobe.com

Daniels tells me his company has six patents pending for technology that connects e-mail users to Web banner ads. Such patents could give Theglobe.com an edge in turning e-mail traffic into Web "reach."

Theglobe.com is also pitching its personal publishing tools -- where you can build your own Web site by downloading modules for headlines, interfaces and so on -- to small-business owners. The company`s webjump.com will help Web users see Theglobe.com as a business-to-business tool, and not just as a bunch of 20-something kids in a dorm room, Daniels said.

"We are distributing tools so that we can get a critical mass of users," he said. The company co-brands community offerings for companies and organizations. "It made no sense to take on Alloy (ALOY: news, msgs) (a Web-tools company), and spend $100 million, when we can do a co-branded relationship so that they don`t have to build community."

At the heart of Theglobe.com, of course, is its sense of community. Much of that comes from the Web-based clubs that Theglobe.com users join. The clubs cover everything from football to basket-weaving to, well ... midget porn. "We like porn. We like midgets. So what the heck," says one member of that club.

The clubs, thousands of them, help the company translate e-mail into page reads. "They are e-mail driven. If a club is trying to poll its members, and sends out e-mail, when the club`s users click on links in the mail, they come back to us," Daniels says.

The biggest test for Daniels and his team of 240 people at Theglobe.com probably will be winning back the Wall Street community. After a sizzling IPO in 1998, Theglobe.com`s shares are flirting with a new low. Market capitalization for the company is less than $200 million.

Analyst Cameron Finnegan at investment bank Wit Capital in New York tells me Wit`s research calls for a "venture buy" on Theglobe.com`s stock. "That`s because of inherent risks in their business model, so this is for venture-type investors," she says.

Still, Finnegan says she is looking for strong revenue growth for Theglobe.com: $40.9 million of sales this year and $94.7 million next year. Theglobe.com, after some revenue hiccups last year, recorded $18.5 million in sales for 1999. Much of the company`s revenue comes from advertising on the various Web sites, which make Theglobe.com the 34th in Media Metrix`s ranking of online reach to users.

"Our valuation is ridiculous, but I am in the business of building a business," says Daniels. Now, if only Daniels can get Theglobe.com stock out of the gutter and into the limelight.

Theglobe.com shares on Nasdaq Thursday morning rose 7/8 to 7 9/16.

Mal sehen, was Montag passiert!

Sportsline.com and theglobe.com in strategic pact
NEW YORK, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Internet sports media company SportsLine.com Inc. (NasdaqNM:SPLN - news) said Wednesday it has entered into a strategic partnership with theglobe.com (NasdaqNM:TGLO - news) for marketing and distribution.

SportsLine, which publishes CBS SportsLine, will receive a minimum guarantee of $5 million, payable in theglobe.com stock representing about 3 percent of outstanding shares in theglobe.com stock.

In exchange, it will promote theglobe.com`s community network throughout the CBS SportsLine site. Additionally, theglobe.com will have exclusive rights to sell advertising, sponsorships and non sports-related e-commerce on CBS SportsLine.

Under the agreement, SportsLine.com will also have the opportunity to receive additional payments in stock or cash, contingent upon certain performance achievements.

Beginning with CBS SportsLine`s coverage of the Major League Baseball season, theglobe.com will co-brand and customize its community services, including e-mail clubs, home page building tools and message boards for CBS SportsLine and its fantasy sports service, Commissioner.COM.

``We strongly believe that our strategic partnership with theglobe.com will enable us to foster deeper relationships with our users, resulting in more frequent and longer visits to our site and substantial incremental value to both our consumers and shareholders,`` said Michael Levy, founder and chief executive officer of SportsLine.com Inc.

``Sports fans are among the most passionate and dedicated users of the Internet and through theglobe.com`s expertise in building community, we will provide CBS SportsLine users the best opportunity to express their opinions and interact with other users.``

``We`re pleased that SportsLine.com recognizes that community is a key component to customer retention on the Web and this partnership is an endorsement in theglobe.com as a leader in providing best-of-breed community tools and services,`` said Dean Daniels, president and chief operating officer of theglobe.com.

According to the December Media Metrix report, the combined audiences of SportsLine.com and theglobe.com represent a reach of 12.4 percent of all Web users.

      Moin Leute!
Sieht also wieder besser aus. Mein Kursziel für Ende nächster Woche ist 12! Wäre ja super! :)

      Hi Morchel,
