Warum nimmt Teaxas Instrument SPAZ ?

ATI ships Fire GL 8800 Workstation Graphics Boards continues long-standing deal for Fire GL with HP
ATI started off the year with a new product shipment. The Fire GL 8800, ATI`s mid-range 3D workstation graphics board is on its way to customers. And, the first customer that`s getting the new boards is Hewlett-Packard. The HP Workstation crew headed by Product Marketing Manager Jeff Wood have been happy with the Fire GL line. Wood says, "It fits well with our technical computing workstation strategy of providing the best available graphics at each price/performance point through our Leadership Graphics program." HP has been among ATI`s most loyal customers for the Fire GL board.
The Fire GL 8800 is equipped with ATI technology and in fact, it is the first Fire GL product with ATI`s Radeon line of graphics controller rather than the IBM technology of older Fire GL products. Thus it supports DirectX8 and has ATI`s Truform and Smartshader technologies. The board has 128 MB DDR memory, DVD playback, support for 2048 x 1536, an integrated TMDS transmitter to support DVI to 1600 x 1200. Press release
Alchemy Semiconductor demonstrates Media Excel`s MPEG-4 software codec running on AU1000
Austin based Alchemy Semiconductor, Inc. is working with Meda Excel software to incorporate MPEG-4 into the Alchemy package. Alchemy says their chip is powerful enough to run Media Excel`s MPEG-4 software and provide full frame rate encoding. The story is that Media Excel`s software is 800 times faster than other MPEG-4 software products and it pairs well with Alchemy`s 400 MHz, .5 watt Au1000 chip. Alchemy says developers don`t need a dedicated co-processor for video. Rather, MPEG-4 can be run using only 40% of the Au1000`s power. It`s early days yet for these players but they`ve got a good story.

Every win counts: ATI graphics powers TongFang PCs built in Mainland China
Count on it, ATI is going to announce every win they get and the Chinese market is a good and attractive market for ATI as it fights its way back to market share parity with Nvidia. TongFang has selected ATI`s Rage 128 Pro for its ChaoYue 3500D, desktop computer based on the Pentium 4 1.5 Ghz with 128 Mbytes of memory, a 40 Gbyte hard drive, CD ROM and a 15-inch CRT.
ATI is also shipping the Mobility Radeon 7500 and the company says their new Mobility products will help solidify the company`s solid lead in the notebook market. (Though, God knows, Nvidia has pulled out all the stops to win in the very attractive, notebook market. But, it will take time.) ATI`s Radeon 7500 is the first mobile processor to ship with support for 128-bit DDR rather than 64-bit DDR. ATI also claims an edge in power/performance tradeoffs promising extended battery life for watching DVDs, playing 3D games or presentations.
ATI has an all important win for the Radeon 7500 with Dell in that company`s Inspiron 8100 notebook PC.

Nvidia claims dominance on desktop with GeForce Titanium; VisionTek leads growth
In a press release that`s long on enthusiasm and short on actual information, Nvidia claims that boards based on its newest line of chip, the GeForce Titanium have taken the market by storm. The company says they have more than 50 wins with OEMs and lists ABS, Alienware, Compaq, Dell, Evesham, Falcon Northwest, Fujitsu-Siemens, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Legend, MicronPC, Nutrend, Polywel, Sys, and Xi among their customers. VisionTek is the leader now in the retail channel and is launching programs to maintain this position.
Nvidia credits VisionTek`s new Xtasy 6964 which is based on the GeForce 3 Ti 500 chip as a top prize winner in various magazine and website awards including PC Gamer Magazine, PC World, and SharkyExtreme.
Why do we tell you these things? Well, we think the emergence of VisionTek as a major retail player is important and we think that Nvidia makes more noise the more competitors irritate it.

MPEG-2 LA strikes again, this time at Dell
Just because it`s a standard doesn`t mean there aren`t patent holders lurking in the bushes, and nowhere is this more true than in the confusing jungle of MPEG-2. The MPEG-LA group, formed in 1996 as a limited liability company, has emerged as a major coalition of patent holders and includes Mitsubishi Electric Corp., Scientific-Atlanta, Sony Corp., U.S. Philips Corp. and Victor Co. of Japan. This group owns 44 patents in MPEG technology. Also part of the group are Columbia University and the City of New York, which also own rights to several MPEG-2 Patents. The group has already taken on Compaq in a much-publicized suit, and we see here that Compaq as well as Apple and Hewlett-Packard are license holders, so we can guess how the Compaq case came out, and HP and Apple are also playing ball with MPEG-LA.
The suit against Dell was filed in the U.S. District Court in Delaware on Friday, December 7. Whether Dell sees this as a Pearl Harbor-style sneak attack is unknown. As of this writing, the company isn`t making comments. Press Release
Microtune and nCube develop silicon-based upconverter; new product can save broadcasters space, money, and power
Microtune is building itself a brand-new business. The company has partnered with nCube to build a chipset that shrinks all the RF (radio frequency) components of a convention upconverter into a three-chip module. Traditional implementations are about the size of a VCR.
Products built using the new VideoCaster will enable true video-on-demand. Ganging a bunch of these units together enables broadcasters to send thousands of simultaneous channels of real-time video and at the same time reduce the space requirements by 90% and the power demand by 40%. Microtune claims their VideoCaster is the smallest upconverter in the world.
This partnership between nCube and Microtune has been a fruitful one. NCube develops technology used by cable operators and telephony companies to deliver VOD, digital advertising insertion and network-based personal video recording (PVR). More important perhaps is nCube`s ongoing relationship with broadcasters. The company`s nCube n4 Streaming Media appliance is in use in more than 20 countries. Currently, nCube has built the largest video server in the world for Kingston Communications and it`s building the largest video server in the United States for Time Warner Cable in Los Angeles for their VOD service. AOL renews, re-configures investment deal with Gateway
Gateway and AOL have had an investment relationship since 1999. At that time the deal was that AOL would eventually invest $800 million in Gateway and in return Gateway would build products that tied into the AOL network. One of the first examples of that strategy was a failed Internet access device based on the Transmeta chipset called the Connected Touch Pad. The $599 device was designed for home users and provided an immediate link to AOL. It disappeared without a trace in the sand.
Undaunted, the relationship has continued and AOL has invested $400 million in Gateway so far. Now, AOL has announced plans to invest an additional $200 million in preferred shares. The deal is less of an cash investment in Gateway than originally planned (in all it will come to $600 million), but Gateway is also being relieved of Internet payments on debt sold to AOL. Instead, AOL is exchanging the $200 in convertible debt for shares of a new class of Gateway Series C convertible preferred stock. The two companies said Gateway didn`t get as much cash as specified in the original deal because Gateway didn`t need that much.
It`s all in how you look at it we guess. $200 less in debt and $200 cash still adds up to $400 in our books. Press Release
Intel releases stereoscopic code from its skunk works
Intel has a wealth of technology buried in its labs all over the world. Ideally the company is just waiting for the right time to unleash it on the world with the hope that the new technology will drive new demand for Intel`s products, especially processors. Apparently, the time is right for Intel`s OpenCV open-source software that interprets the images from cameras to enable computers to see in stereo.
The next logical question that must be asked is, Why do computers need to see in stereo? The application is designed to enable the development of applications capable of face recognition, gesture tracking and object tracking.
This code comes from Intel`s Russian lab in Nizhny Novgorod, which was established in 1990. We`ve played with this stuff when Intel has invited us to open houses for their lab projects. We remember one application that used gesture recognition as an I/O tool. As an example you might throw away a document by making a sweeping gesture, etc. We also played a game by bobbing our heads, but all we really remember is the embarrassment and the growing suspicion that sometimes Intel makes us do things so the engineers can replay tapes and laugh at us later.
Back to the story. The software, 2.1 OpenCV, is available through Intel`s Open Source Computer Vision Library (OpenCV) in Russia, and it includes an interface to Matlab, a development tool for vision-based applications. In the past year, says Intel, since OpenCV has been available to developers, there have been over 75,000 downloads of OpenCV, and there are 2,000 registered developers. Someday, says the company, we could have two cameras mounted on our cameras that watch us and react to our facial expressions and gestures. Press Release

Roxio will issue approximately 2.3 million shares of Roxio stock to stockholders of MGI at the close of the transaction, yielding an approximate exchange ratio of 0.052 shares of Roxio for each share of MGI. The $38.8 deal is expected to close in 90 days, say the principals.
MGI has had a rough go of it with the market turndown and, in a way, Roxio is riding the the rescue. The deal includes a $1.5 million line of credit to enable MGI to continue operations. Press Release
ARM news:New Developer Suite Software includes Jazelle support; TSMC signs on for ARM946E and ARM1022E cores.
The cause of Java on handhelds has just gotten a little stronger with the newest release of the ARM Developer Suite software, version 1.2, which will include tools to support ARM`s Jazelle Technology, ARMs cores that enable Java hardware acceleration. The supported cores include the ARM7EJ-S and the ARM926EJ-S cores. In addition, ARM`s new software development tools include host support for Red Hat Linux and ARM VFP9-S and ARM VFP10 vector floating point co-processors.
Note that the availability of Java acceleration and floating-point capabilities in new ARM products will enable advanced features for ARM`s customers, many of whom build phones and handhelds Internet access devices. It makes for an interesting future.
In addition, ARM announced that TSMC has licensed the ARM946E and the ARM1022E cores for manufacture through the ARM Foundry program. TSMC plans to being silicon fabrication in early 2002 and will support the ARM946E core on its 0.13-micron and 0.13-micron core logic processors. The ARM1022E core will be supported on TSMC`s 0.13-micron low-voltage process. Both cores have been developed to offer performance with power efficiency. The ARM1022E core consumes 1.6mW/MHz including caches and the ARM946E core uses less than 0.4mW/MHz in TSMC`s 0.13-micron process. See associated press releases: Arm`s new developer suite, TSMC licences arm cores.
Nvidia announces broad nForce compatibility and support from memory suppliers
Remember nForce, Nvidia`s integrated product offering introduced at Computex? The part has taken its time getting to market, and it`s competing directly with VIA`s KT266a and SiS`s 735, both of which are turning in very good performance and challenging prices. Nvidia`s chipset is unique in its use of hyper transport for communications between the chipset`s major parts, the IGP (integrated graphics processor) and the Media & Communications Processor (MCP). With nForce, Nvidia introduced its TwinBank Memory Architecture, which offers two memory 64-bit SDR/DDR SDRAM memory controllers. Nvidia is planning for the future because two memory controllers aren`t necessary for the current Athlons; their FSBs support one 64-bit DDR 266 SDRAM channel. The rest of wasted.
Most recently, Nvidia announced validation and compatibility testing of a broad array of DDR memory modules for nForce, including modules from Micron Technology, Samsung Semiconductor, Hynix Semiconductor, Infineon Technologies, Kingston Technology, Smart Modular Technologies, Crucial Technology and PNY Technologies.
The nForce has yet to prove itself in the market, even with low-cost reference boards from Nvidia, but this is the company`s first run at the IGC (integrated graphics chipset) market and they`ve put a big, impossible-to-ignore stake in the ground. This is a company that learns by doing. Press Release
Spatializer introduces VSP 11
Spatializer is a quiet little company that`s been making a lot of noise in a lot of places. The company`s Spatializer audio enhancement technology can improve sound on all platforms without hardware. The company has deals with media players, DVD chip companies and software media companies. Spatializer counts Panasonic, Toshiba, Samsung and Apple among its customers. The company`s product VSP-11 captures sound from at the API level be it Wave or DirectSound and does its magic before sending the signal to the PC`s sound card. It also processes the signal coming from speakers or other devices connected via USB. Spatializer says their technology enhances all Windows software media players including Microsoft Media Player, Real Player, Real Jukebox, WinAmp, WinDVD, PowerDVD, etc.
Spatializer VSP-11 includes four of Spatializer`s products: 3D Stereo, which makes small speakers sound big and turns two speakers into 3D sound systems; Natural Headphone, which is 3D sound for headphones and, adds Spatializer slyly, offers a "realistic mobile theater experience while avoiding the cost of multi-channel royalties"; HRTF (head-related transfer functions) and room reverberation modeling techniques; and Vi.B.E. bass enhancement, PCE high-frequency enhancement for clearer, crisper and more brilliant audio, especially over the Internet.
The company has also added a fancy full-color customizable GUI. Taken together, Spatializer`s features can improve the sound coming from inexpensive speakers (and, we suppose, look better given the GUI). Better yet, says the company, they`re offering a complete package of four sound enhancement products for one price. Here the company is having a little fun with Dolby, as they are wont to do. Dolby, as you know, sells Dolby Headphone as a separate product.
The company introduced VSP-11 at Comdex. Press Release
ARM continues its march into the handheld market
Fujitsu Limited has licensed the ARM926EJ-S core and the ARM946E-S core for use in "multimedia electronic products." Which means, in this case, digital cameras, PDAs, mobile phones and Internet appliances. The first one, the ARM926EJ-S, includes ARM`s Jazelle technology for Java acceleration and is designed for systems running the Symbian OS, microlTRON, Windows CE, Linux and Palm in cellular handsets. The ARM946E-S has been optimized for embedded control applications such as hard disc drives and M disks.
Already an ARM licensee with the earlier ARM7TDMI, Fujitsu says they`re looking forward to building SOC products with their new acquisitions. Their roadmap calls for an ARM926EJ-S core in Q2 2002 and an ARM9246E-S core in Q3 2002. Press Release
Closely watched suits: Broadcom versus Intel
Former friends Intel and Broadcom have taken their battle to the courts. Intel, once a backer of Broadcom, now accuses Broadcom Corp. of infringing Intel patents in "nearly every aspect of its business." This latest court battle is one of a series. The two companies have had several legal disagreements about patents and also sued when several engineers defected to Broadcom. This suit, filed originally in August 2000, has been split in two with the first part focusing on two patents, one for a networking chip and the other for a digital video chip. Intel is seeking $82 million in the patent suit. This first trial is expected to last three weeks. The second trial will cover three patents: two of them concern video chips and the third covers packaging. But also, this is where Broadcom gets its licks in accusing Intel of unfair business practices and abuse of industry standards. If our memory serves, similar claims have been leveled in the courts by AMD, Cyrix, Intergraph and most recently by VIA and Europe. See related story.
Dominos falling the wrong way for Rambus: courts rule in favor of Hynix, Infineon
After a series of successes, Rambus` latest suits have not gone as well. Hynix has announced that the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has dismissed most of Rambus` patent claims. In fact, says Hynix, the court has dismissed all but two of the more than 400 patent infringement claims included in Rambus` suit. This latest ruling was based on determinations made in the earlier Rambus-Infineon dustup. When last we counted, seven companies—Samsung, NEC, Toshiba, Hitachi, Oki, Elpida and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation—had signed agreements with Rambus. But in later suits the company`s participation in JEDEC, the memory industry`s standards organization, came to light and has turned the legal tide against Rambus. In several suits now, including those brought by Hitachi, Infineon and Hynix, the companies defending themselves against Rambus` patent claims, point to Rambus` participation in JEDEC and the discussion of DDR. At the time Rambus did not reveal its patent applications.
In May a federal jury in Richmond, VA, working on part of the Infineon case agreed that Rambus` failure to disclose its patent application to JEDEC constituted fraud and the court ordered Rambus to pay $3.5 million. That court issued its final order on November 26, 2001. That final order covers some of Rambus` patent complaints against Infineon and includes Infineon products designed under JEDEC`s DDR SDRAM standard adopted in June 2000. The court has entered an injunction against Rambus to prevent the enforcement of "certain of its patents against certain Infineon products. Rambus says they`ll appeal. Related stories: Infineon, Hynix.
Closely watched suits part II: Sonicblue ships Replay II in defiance of network suits
Sonicblue has decided to ship its newest video recorder, the Replay II. The new set-top box is the latest in the Replay line of PVRs that lets TV watchers record programs to a hard drive and pause, go forward and back. The machines have hard drives that hold from 40 hours to 320 hours of TV and prices that range from $700 to $2,000. The Replay has a couple of other features that have attracted the ire of the TV networks and that`s its ability to skip commercials and the ability to share files over the Internet. As a result, on October 31, the major U.S. networks, ABC, CBS and NBC, have brought suit claiming the Replay machine violates copyright laws. In a less obvious argument, the networks also claim that by allowing consumers to bypass commercials Sonicblue robs the networks of revenues. Viacom has also brought suit against tiny Sonicblue, inspiring industry watchers to wonder if Sonicblue`s David might defeat the network Goliaths but be mortally wounded in the fight. Press Release

Other shoe department: ATI and Evans & Sutherland announce partnership to build PC-IGs
As mentioned last week, E&S is finally rolling out new products and they`ve just announced their latest SimFusion machine. E&S has opted for off-the-shelf graphics to improve their ability to supply sophisticated image generators to their high-dollar, and impatient, customers. ATI has the bid and E&S says they`ll be using the Radeon 8500 graphics in their new Ensemble and SimFusion products. Also, E&S has committed to multiple graphics chip configurations as they become available. The association with high-end graphics pioneers E&S isn`t going to hurt ATI`s reputation. ATI`s competitor Nvidia likewise has been working closely with sim experts Quantum 3D and SGI. Press Release
Newsflash: Intel says SOI isn`t such a bad idea after all. New TeraHertz transistor enables billion transistor chips with low power overhead.
Intel introduces TeraHertz technology, a silicon-on-insulator approach that allows more transistors to be packed on a chip without significantly increasing the power demands of the chip. In fact, says Intel, the technology will enable chips to be built in 2007 that have a billion transistors but don`t require any more power than is used by today`s processors. Products using the new technology will be introduced by 2005. The press has generally picked up on the fact that IBM and AMD have already introduced similar technologies, which were earlier dismissed by Intel.
Earlier in the fall, Intel introduced a new packaging process which embeds the silicon chip directly in the packaging eliminating solder "bumps" and allowing more transistors to be packed on chips and faster clock speeds for processors. Intel promises chips running faster than 20 GHZ as a result.
Ours is not to reason why. Press Release

MigraTec says their approach automates some of the processes required to move apps from 32-bit to 64-bit and from Solaris and other Unix operating systems to Microsoft Windows and Linux.
Dell`s challenge is to come up with a plan to offer their corporate customers services and support that`s competitive with the level of products offered by Compaq, HP, IBM and Sun. This is one approach. Press Release

Breakfast@Piero`s during CES 2002
Wednesday January 9th,, 8AM -9:30AM
This year we are featuring a special, invitation-only
breakfast event including a panel hosted by
renowned digital graphics pioneer, Dr. Jon Peddie
Behind the Scenes of Multimedia
A Glimpse of the Future with Dr. Jon Peddie
and a panel of experts in video, graphics, communications and System on Chip
If you`re coming to CES, don`t miss Pat Meier`s Breakfast at Piero`s featuring a lively panel discussion by industry analyst Jon Peddie. This is a selective, and intimate gathering designed to bring together the people working behind the scenes of multimedia so they can explain and explore their ideas.
Revolutions don`t happen overnight, but when they do they happen over and over again. Take for example the multimedia revolution that`s been going strong in the high tech world for the last ten years. And all along the way, behind the scenes new ideas, new technologies, new chips and new, delivery pathways have been evolving to keep this revolution growing and changing. A scene once dominated by computers CD-ROMs and video games has grown to include home entertainment, music, movies, and streaming video and audio.
The future is here. The expectations of multimedia are finally being realized.
Multimedia content comes to us through the air, wire and cable by broadcast and stream, and it can be received on every imaginable device including TVs, PCs, phones, PDAs, and tablets. Now, more than ever before people have the ability to create and broadcast their own content. It starts with the Internet, it`s pushed by creation tools such as digital cameras, video software, and digital audio.
We`re well into this revolution, but it`s not stopping here.

Ich bekomme GÄNSHAUT bei SAMSUNG
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is displaying its new device called SV-DVD1E: Dual Vision, which is the combination of a DVD Player and VCR. Dual Vision`s unique features have already captured European minds. Authoritative associations have recognized its innovative excellency.
For instance, the European Imaging & Sound Association (EISA), an association of 40 leading photo, video, audio and home theater magazines representing 20 European countries, recently selected Dual Vision as the European Combi Video Player of the Year 2001-2002. The Dual Vision was rewarded by EISA judges for its desirable features, stisfying ergonomics, value for money and consumer appeal - qualities which had already been praised in the 2001 Multi Media Total Awards earlier this year.
What is so innovative about Dual Vision is that it combines a DVD Player with a VCR. This " two in one unit" allows users to add both a DVD Player and a VCR to their home theater systems in the shelf space of one unit. Further, users can enjoy not only both VCR and DVD at the same time, but also record TV programs while watching a DVD movie. Another attractive feature of Samsung Dual Vision is that it uses the Dual Laser Diode Pickup System(2LD System). The 2LD System uses separate laser diodes for a CD and DVD, ths it allows accurate data transfer from virtually any disc. This means greater compatibility is achieved by reading a DVD disc on one hand and a CD or CD-R disc on the other hand. So, Dual Vision enable uses to play all disc media such as Audio-CD, Video-CD, CD-R, MP3 and DVD. Further, Dual Vision adopts Super VHS Quasi Playback(SQPB). Thanks to SQPB capability, you can enjoy the S-VHS tape as well as VHS tape.
The versatile Dual Vision therefore not only plays disc media such as DVD, Video-CD, Audio-CD, CD-R and MP3 but also tape media such as VHS, S-VHS tapes. Samsung Dual Vision is extremely easy to connect since it uses only one set of cables. The joystick remote control is so well designed ergonomically that anyone can easily operate DVD Player, VCR and TV. Another convenient feature is that Dual Vision recognizes exactly what type of media being used.
For additional options, such as a fast-forward for videotape and a skip for DVD share the same button for easier usage. Dual Vision`s VCR is a 6headed hi-fi stereo with normal and double speed, built-in A1/NICAM demodulator, and a ShowView™/VideoPlus+ programming option. Samsung Dual Vision is equipped with a virtual 3D surround sound system using the 5.1 channel information from DVd discs. This simulates the sound of a full five speker sound system even when only tow speakers are in use. Advanced signal processing adds rear channel information to the front speakers, effectively putting rear speaker sounds behind the listener.
Dual Vision`s Dolby Digital™ receiver or to an external digital-to-analog converter. Both optical and coaxial terminals are provided. These terminals also provide a 96kHz/24bit audio stream for the use with latest high-end audio recordings.

EISA awards, which are made on the basis of advanced technology, design, ergonomics, value for money and potential popularity among the public, are considered to be the most important in the field of advanced consumer electronics in the world.
Multi Media Total magazine is a leading authority on new trends and developments in the field of audio/video & innovative IT products in the Netherlands.
The Jury of Multi Media Total Magazine awarded Dual Vision as follows: "After 25years of good service, the well-known VCR seems to come to the end of its life cycle. The recordable DVD player is soon to take its place. But, this is still to come. The Samsung SV-DVD1E gives the VCR a new future by combining VCR and DVD into one product. The user-friendliness of this unique combination is astonishing."
Jan 28, 2002 (DVD NEWS via COMTEX) -- Spatializer Audio Laboratories has reported the launch of Spatializer N-2-2 Ultra, the Company`s new virtual surround sound software. Designed for next generation DVD players with high performance processors, Spatializer N-2-2 Ultra is now available to OEMs on Zoran Corporation`s Vaddis V multimedia processor. "Spatializer N-2-2 Ultra provides consumers with unparalleled user control while dramatically improving the home theatre experience from just two speakers," explains Randy Roscoe, Spatializer`s vice president of sales and marketing. "Spatializer N-2-2 Ultra is initially available for the new Zoran Vaddis V multimedia processor for use in DVD players and Set Top Boxes by OEMs. While we will support many of the other next generation DSPs in the coming months, we are very pleased to launch our new flagship product on the Vaddis V, one of the hottest new processors available today." Spatializer N-2-2 Ultra takes advantage of the latest processor architecture to deliver outstanding performance and a world-beating feature set. By offering a wide array of features and options, Spatializer N-2-2 Ultra provides the branded OEM the opportunity to offer their customers a diverse package of audio enhancement features in a single cost effective solution. "We are pleased that Spatializer chose to enhance our Vaddis V home entertainment platform with N-2-2 Ultra," said Michael Wood, vice president and general manager of the Home Entertainment Division of Zoran Corporation, "Vaddis V`s outstanding audio DSP is ideal for running advanced audio software. Since great audio makes great video, N-2-2 Ultra will help our customers be even more competitive." "With the introduction of Spatializer N-2-2 Ultra, we`ve raised the bar for quality virtual surround sound," asserts Spatializer Chairman and CEO Henry R. Mandell. "We have not only set the `de facto` standard for DVD virtual surround sound -- we have improved upon our own standard. Leading branded OEMs simply cannot win their battle for market share based on price alone. They have got to offer their customer an audio and video experience that exceeds their expectations, especially for the majority of consumers without expensive surround sound speaker systems. This means going beyond offering run-of-the-mill 3-D surround solutions with underpowered processors. Spatializer N-2-2 Ultra is a premium and comprehensive virtual audio solution which delivers the widest array of value added features to the OEM who strives to market impressive and high value products. Zoran is right on the money when they say that great audio makes great video-and making great audio is our business."

Spatializer Audio Laboratories Inc. Offers Spatializer VirtualSurround VBX(TM) As an Easily Affordable Virtual Surround Solution for Low-Cost DVD Players
Spatializer`s New Software Synthesizes a Surround Sound Effect From Any Two-Channel Input, Including Stereo Soundtracks and Compressed Internet Audio
Reduced Price Spatializer Solution Also Lowers Overall Cost by Allowing Manufacturer to Forgo Multi-Channel Royalties
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Spatializer Audio Laboratories Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SPAZ - news) announced today the availability of Spatializer VirtualSurround VBX(TM), the Company`s new and more affordable virtual surround sound software targeted at low-cost DVD players. Spatializer VirtualSurround VBX is now available to OEMs on Zoran Corporation`s widely adopted Vaddis IV processor and will be available shortly on the Ziva-4 processor from LSI Logic.
(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20010525/LAF026LOGO )
Spatializer VirtualSurround VBX is a surround sound enhancement technology optimized for 2-channel sound. Since Spatializer VirtualSurround VBX receives and processes a two channel, rather than 5.1 channel stream, manufacturers may be able to reduce decoder royalties paid to third parties. It provides the listener with an extremely wide soundstage without coloring the sound. Spatializer VirtualSurround VBX is derived from our extensive research into head-related transfer function modeling and cross-talk cancellation. By taking the salient features from these technologies, Spatializer has developed a simplified topology that provides an extremely pleasing surround effect. In addition to enhancing DVD-Video playback, Spatializer VirtualSurround VBX is ideal for enhancing MP3 encoded music as well as DVD-Audio. With the availability of Spatializer VirtualSurround VBX, joining Spatializer N-2-2 and Spatializer N-2-2 Ultra, no one offers a wider array of virtual surround sound solutions for each market segment than Spatializer Audio Laboratories Inc.
Spatializer VirtualSurround VBX is also designed as a customizable and flexible product offering. Additional modules, as processor resources and cost constraints allow, can easily be added to enhance the listener`s audio experience. These modules include Spatializer PCE(TM), which polishes and enhances the clarity of the audio experience, Spatializer Vi.B.E.(TM) which delivers the perception of enhanced bass response and Spatializer Natural Headphone(TM), which creates a personal virtual surround sound experience through headphones or earphones. The software can be further upgraded up through the Company`s flagship technology, Spatializer N-2-2 Ultra(TM), the industry`s new standard in true, multi-channel virtual surround sound.
``Spatializer VirtualSurround VBX is a sensible virtual surround sound solution for low-cost DVD player models from respected global OEMs who must compete with very low cost offerings, primarily from less recognized regional manufacturers,`` explains Henry R. Mandell, Spatializer Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. ``To better compete, some OEMs must forgo offering virtual surround or adopt primitive and unimpressive solutions offered for free by some chip companies. The need for a solution to this problem is real and our mission is to provide such solutions that meet our customer`s needs and exceeds their expectations. Now, all manufacturers have a real, high quality solution for low-cost applications that has real impact, with the prestige of the Spatializer brand name, while at the same time, further reducing their third party royalty costs. This is a win-win-win solution for manufacturers,

Also nichts Neues.

Calypte Biomedical Retains Investor Relations Network To Direct Its Financial Public Relations Programs
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 04, 2002 6:46 PM
- BusinessWire
ALAMEDA, Calif., Feb 4, 2002 (BW HealthWire) -- Calypte Biomedical Corporation (CALY) , a public healthcare company dedicated to the development and commercialization of urine-based diagnostic products and services, today announced that it has retained the Investor Relations Network to direct its investor relations and corporate communications programs.
In recent months, the company has continued financing efforts necessary to execute its business plan. It has also forged new strategic partnerships, and expanded its efforts to build a worldwide manufacturing and distribution presence.
Calypte said it wanted to begin sharing with shareholders and the public the company`s goals and accomplishments. To help in that effort, it has retained the Investor Relations Network.
A significant part of the Investor Relations Network`s compensation is long-term stock options to purchase Calypte common stock.
The Investor Relations Network is a financial public relations partnership with headquarters in Corona, California, and additional offices in Irvine, Los Angeles, New York City and Dallas. It provides investor relations and corporate communications programs for publicly traded and pre-IPO firms nationwide. The IRN also acts as an introductory source for capital formation.
Headquartered in Alameda, California, Calypte Biomedical Corporation (www.calypte.com) is dedicated to the development and commercialization of urine-based diagnostic products and services for Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 (HIV-1), sexually transmitted diseases and other infectious diseases. Calypte`s tests include the screening EIA and supplemental Western Blot tests, the only two FDA-approved HIV-1 antibody tests that can be used on urine samples. The company believes that accurate, non-invasive urine-based testing methods for HIV and other infectious diseases may make important contributions to public health by helping to foster an environment in which testing may be done safely, economically, and painlessly. Calypte markets its products in countries worldwide through international distributors and strategic partners.
Statements in this press release that are not historical facts are forward-looking statements, including statements regarding future revenues and sales projections, plans for future financing, the ability to meet operational milestones, marketing arrangements and plans, and shipments to and regulatory approvals in international markets. Such statements reflect management`s current views, are based on certain assumptions and involve risks and uncertainties. Actual results, events, or performance may differ materially from the above forward-looking statements due to a number of important factors, and will be dependent upon a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, our ability to obtain additional financing that will allow us to continue our current and future operations and whether demand for our product and testing service in domestic and international markets will continue to expand. The Company undertakes no obligation to publicly update these forward-looking statements to reflect events or circumstances that occur after the date hereof or to reflect any change in the Company`s expectations with regard to these forward-looking statements or the occurrence of unanticipated events. Factors that may impact the Company`s success are more fully disclosed in the Company`s most recent public filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC"), including its annual report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2000 and its subsequent filings with the SEC.
