Parayne Introduces Revolutionary Frame Relay Service Demarc Offering Service Providers Powerful New Choices for Service Provisioning
      MONDAY, JANUARY 17, 2000 2:13 PM
      - BusinessWire

TAMPA, Fla., Jan 17, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

FrameSaver(R) FLEX answers network service providers` need to affordably instrument frame relay circuits with advanced diagnostic

capabilities Adding to its portfolio of award-winning, frame relay service level management solutions, Paradyne Networks Inc. (Nasdaq:PDYN) today announced FrameSaver FLEX - a new frame relay service demarc providing advanced frame relay diagnostics, as well as full-service level management capabilities on demand.

Featuring unmatched fault isolation and diagnostics capabilities at a low-entry price, FrameSaver FLEX allows Network Service Providers (NSPs) to lower overall network lifecycle costs, improve service quality and, optionally, create new service offerings targeting a broad base of frame relay service users. With these capabilities, NSPs can easily cost justify FrameSaver FLEX in both basic and fully managed frame relay service offerings.

When service providers are ready to migrate subscribers from basic frame services to premium-managed services with Service Level Agreements (SLAs), FrameSaver FLEX`s service level reporting and alarming capabilities can be activated from the NSP`s operations center, using downloadable "software keys," without having to install new equipment.

"Today, only 20 percent of frame-relay circuits are being provisioned with `frame-aware` service demarcs," said Frank Wiener, Paradyne`s vice president of Broadband Access Solutions. "With FrameSaver FLEX, service providers can cost effectively provision manageable demarcs in order to reduce operational costs and improve customer satisfaction on the other 80 percent of frame relay circuits. The new FrameSaver FLEX products support the carriers` desire to equip every frame relay circuit with advanced intelligence - at prices comparable to standard DSUs.

"With deployment of FrameSaver FLEX on frame relay circuits, NSPs can expect fewer truck rolls, faster service turn-up times, fewer `no trouble founds,` reduced incidences of reported problems and faster resolution of trouble tickets after they are opened," said Wiener.

Many NSPs, for example, report that between 40 to 70 percent of all incidents are eventually tracked down to misconfigured customer premises equipment (CPE) - usually the router. FrameSaver FLEX allows NSPs to quickly isolate problems to either the frame relay network or the customer CPE - remotely from the NOC - without having to send a technician to the site. Unnecessary disruptive local-loop verification can most often be avoided resulting is less down time of subscriber`s mission-critical applications.

About FrameSaver FLEX FrameSaver FLEX helps network service providers manage frame-relay lifecycle costs downwards, while providing the highest levels of service possible for their subscribers.

FrameSaver FLEX provides enhanced layer 1, as well as layer 2 frame relay diagnostics; and trouble isolation capabilities. These include: full SNMP MIB support; RMON user history for storage of up to 24 hours of historical data and alarm-log information; real-time performance monitoring of frame relay statistics; health and status reporting; and non-disruptive end-to-end loopbacks.

Remote verification of all layer 1 and layer 2 network parameters, network latency and throughput can be performed upon installation avoiding costly return visits. Since FrameSaver FLEX is "router independent." the subscriber`s router need not be present for service verification to be performed.

      Product Highlights:

-- FrameSaver FLEX is easily installed at the customer premises by
NSP field personnel using standard, well-established procedures.
In "transparent leased line" mode, FrameSaver FLEX operates as a
standard SNMP DSU/CSU. No staging or special field training is
required - error free installation results.

-- Service providers can establish connection to any FrameSaver FLEX
device on their network using the FrameSaver Trouble Shooting
Management Link capability. This technique allows connectivity
and automatic IP address assignment on an ad hoc basis - whenever
      diagnostic troubleshooting is required.

-- FrameSaver FLEX is fully standards based and designed to easily
integrate with NSP infrastructures and back-office systems.

-- FrameSaver FLEX features a comprehensive telnet menu driven user
interface. Dual telnet sessions with password security and
various levels of authorization are supported.

-- FrameSaver FLEX may be managed under OpenLane - Paradyne`s
powerful element management system. OpenLane is a highly
scalable, web-based management platform designed to easily
integrate into existing NSP provisioning, alarm reporting,
performance, inventory and billing systems through the use of
      APIs.

-- With the application of an "SLV-Key," service-level reporting and
proactive alarming capabilities are remotely activated. When the
      "SLV-Key" is turned on:

-- Service level reporting against SLAs is possible
utilizing the performance reporting capabilities of
OpenLane or third-party performance reporting packages.
-- Pro-active SLA management is activated allowing alarms
to be generated whenever any SLA quality metric crosses
a pre-specified threshold. Attention to service level
problems can be directed before SLAs are missed thereby
avoiding SLA penalties. Pricing and Availability Pricing starts at $925 for the base unit and $150 for the SLV activation keys. FrameSaver FLEX will be available in April.

Paradyne`s New Web-Based OpenLane 5.1 Service Level Management Solution Provides Anytime, Anywhere Network Management; Integrates With Other Management Systems
      MONDAY, JANUARY 17, 2000 1:23 PM
      - BusinessWire

TAMPA, Fla., Jan 17, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

      Web-Accessible, End-to-End, Physical & Logical Views of

a Networks` Health Making Network Service Providers` job of providing optimal network performance easier, Paradyne Networks Inc. (Nasdaq:PDYN) today announced the OpenLane(TM) 5.1 Service Level Management solution that provides access via a Web browser to all the management tools necessary to ensure that customers` critical networks and applications perform to specification.

Through a securely partitioned, Web-browser interface, powerful diagnostic, alerting and analysis tools can be used anytime, anywhere. OpenLane provides the tools that not only allow a service provider to offer an SLA (Service Level Agreement), monitor and report on it, but it also provides the capabilities to enable a service provider to ensure that SLAs have been met. In addition, OpenLane gives service providers the tools needed to deliver the services outlined in agreements.

"As the number of DSL lines in service explodes in 2000 in North America and globally, effective SLA management will be a fundamental differentiater for service providers seeking to increase their penetration of the small and medium-size business market. Strong SLA enforcement becomes even more important with the complexity of prioritizing and managing multiple value-added services, including voice, over DSL lines," said Brett Sheppard, primary DSL analyst for TeleChoice Inc.

OpenLane`s highly scalable, multi-tier, standards-based architecture - which supports industry standards such as XML, EJB, & LDAP - enables integration with other management systems. Given that a network is made up of equipment from multiple vendors, integration with other management systems is essential for any level of service deployment. This enhances manageability of the network, minimizes service turn-up time, increases network reliability, and minimizes cost of deployment.

OpenLane`s highly distributed system can easily scale with increasing network demands, utilizing different physical hardware servers capable of handling different parts of the network and different management functions. OpenLane supports small, end-user networks with a few dozen devices and a few users, as well as ultra-large carrier-class networks with tens of thousands of devices, and thousands of users.

"With OpenLane 5.1, all management services and capabilities are available via a web browser, providing real-time management access. NOC operators no longer have to go to the NOC to use dedicated workstations to access full management functions," said Frank Wiener, Paradyne`s vice president of Broadband Access Services. "These functions are now available from any PC or notebook computer that has Internet access." OpenLane also has an access gateway that enables both the Network Service Provider and the end customer to have simultaneous access to the network management system. This web portal allows the secure partitioning of network elements and management functions based on customer policies. These functions -- enabling the service provider to create and provide value-added services for their customers -- can be provisioned to include service-level reports, real-time performance monitoring, network diagnostics, and network configuration.

About OpenLane OpenLane provides the tools for network configuration and provisioning, detailed network health and status, robust diagnostics, real-time performance monitoring, and historical reporting. OpenLane manages the portfolio of Paradyne access products including FrameSaver(R) and Hotwire(R) Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) systems. OpenLane enables proactive and reactive network monitoring, analysis, and troubleshooting - identifying trouble spots and resolving them before they become service affecting. Additionally, the user can monitor bandwidth utilization, verify line quality as well as the level of service provided.

Pricing and Availability The OpenLane 5 Service Level Management solution starts under $3,000 and will be available next month.

Paradyne Introduces New Hotwire ATM SDSL Port Card Offering Multiservices Support and Interoperability
      MONDAY, JANUARY 17, 2000 12:14 PM
      - BusinessWire

TAMPA, Fla., Jan 17, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Delivering on the roadmap introduced with its next-generation, multiservices Hotwire GranDSLAM, Paradyne Networks Inc. (Nasdaq:PDYN) today introduced an ATM Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL) card for the Hotwire platform.

As part of Paradyne`s Hotwire Connected(TM) program, the card interoperates with multi-vendor DSL endpoints and Voice over DSL (VoDSL) gateways providing end users with the ability to select the best equipment to fit their application. The new line card also integrates support for multiple DSL services on a single card reducing Network Service Providers (NSPs) equipment and operational costs. These services include Voice over DSL, IP data services -- such as high-speed Internet and secure VPNs -- and Service Level Managed Frame Relay over DSL.

"Paradyne`s new ATM SDSL card continues to demonstrate the real value of our Hotwire GranDSLAM. With every DSL-based service type that can be added to the DSLAM architecture, you open up a new market opportunity to deploy new revenue-generating services," said Frank Wiener, vice president of Broadband Access Solutions for Paradyne. "Our new ATM SDSL card adds new ATM delivery options to the already robust -- IP, TDM, Frame Relay -- Hotwire DSL-services arsenal."

"DSL providers are fed up having to deploy multiple DSLAMs to deliver a full range of services," said Andrew Cray, senior analyst at Aberdeen Group in Boston. "I`m very impressed with the service creation capabilities of Paradyne`s Hotwire GranDSLAM. DSL providers can build multiple service packages for different markets -- for example IP-VPN and VoDSL for more forward-thinking customers -- but also frame relay over DSL services for those not yet ready to transition to IP. The single biggest concern for providers is how to drive more services and more customers through that box."

Paradyne`s multiservices DSLAM strategy offers the widest range of DSL-based service types including ATM, Frame Relay, IP, TDM and Voice over DSL services utilizing the widest range of DSL transports including MVL(TM) (Multiple Virtual Lines), G.Lite, DMT, SDSL, Rate Adaptive DSL, M/SDSL, M/HDSL and IDSL.

Paradyne`s Hotwire ATM SDSL card offers the following benefits:

-- The new card offers 16 ports and is based on the Conexant
Autobaud(TM) chipset to deliver on the promise of open and
interoperable systems. Hotwire Connected partners will leverage
the new ATM SDSL card to deliver interoperable CPE and Gateway
      devices.

-- Delivering Quality of Service traffic prioritization, the card
ensures that different traffic types are handled appropriately.
For example, delay-sensitive traffic, such as voice, will receive
a higher priority than data, which is essential for providing
integrated voice and data applications, such as VoDSL.

-- The card facilitates integrated voice and data services on a
single copper loop with highly reliable QoS using Real Time VBR.
ATM supported services include Unspecified Bit Rate (UBR),
Variable Bit Rate (VBR), Real Time VBR (rtVBR) and Constant Bit
      Rate (CBR).

-- The card enables the delivery of Service Level Managed Frame
Relay Services over DSL combining traditional frame relay speeds
(including Fractional T1) with the cost advantages of DSL access
while protecting the ability to monitor and verify Service Level
      Agreements (SLAs).

Pricing and Availability The Hotwire 8335 16-port ATM SDSL card for the Hotwire GranDSLAM has a suggested U.S. list price of $8,995 and will be available in April.

      Viel Glück weiterhin an alle!

      TAMPA, Fla., Jan 19, 2000

Broadband Revenues Grew 49 Percent in 1999; Record Quarter for New DSL Customers

Paradyne Networks Inc. (Nasdaq:PDYN), a leader in broadband access systems, today reported its financial results for the year ended December 31, 1999.

Performance highlights included strong annual and quarterly increases in the company`s broadband revenues. Sales of broadband products rose to $153.7 million for 1999, 49 percent higher than the previous year; broadband revenues for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 1999 were $43.7 million, a 32 percent increase over the same period in 1998.

Total annual revenues for 1999 were $225.9 million, a 14 percent increase over the previous year. Excluding $2.6 million of one-time 1999 royalty revenue, 1999 annual revenues increased 12 percent over 1998. Total company revenues for the fourth quarter of 1999 were $61.3 million, a 5 percent increase over the same period in 1998.

Net income for 1999 was $7.9 million, or $0.26 per diluted share. This compares to a net loss of $3.6 million, or $0.14 per share, the year before. Excluding one-time royalty and patent sales, restructuring charges, and deferred stock compensation, net income for 1999 was $4.3 million, or $0.14 per pro forma share, compared to a net loss of $1.8 million, or $0.07 per share, for 1998.

Net income for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 1999 was $4.3 million, or $0.13 per diluted share. This compares to a net loss of $0.8 million, or $.03 per share, for the same period in 1998. Excluding deferred stock compensation, restructuring charges and a one-time patent sale, the net income for the fourth quarter was $2.9 million, or $0.09 per pro forma diluted share, compared to a net income of $.9 million, or $.03 per pro forma diluted share, for the same quarter in 1998.

"We had a terrific quarter and an outstanding year. We carved out leading positions in two high growth markets, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and Service Level Management (SLM), and we continue to prove that we`re winning in these markets"," said Andy May, Paradyne`s chief executive officer.

"Paradyne shipped Hotwire(R) DSL products to 20 new customers in the fourth quarter which represents 40 percent of the 51 new customers who purchased Hotwire DSL products in 1999. Paradyne`s Hotwire DSL products are now deployed in approximately 45 U.S. states, five Canadian provinces and 75 countries," May said.

      Highlights for the quarter:

-- Quarterly shipments of the Hotwire DSL Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs) bring the total shipped to more than 4,900 systems, with the capacity for more than 1.3 million lines.

-- Paradyne shipped DSL products to 20 new customers--the largest quarter for new customers in 1999. Customers include a variety of Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs), independent telephone companies and international telephone companies. These 20 customers represent 40 percent of the 51 new customers who purchased Hotwire DSL products in 1999. In total, more than 135 customers worldwide purchased Hotwire DSL products in 1999. Announced customers include Rhythms NetConnections (Nasdaq:RTHM), Network Access Solutions (Nasdaq:NASC), Choice One Communications, Inc, Telephone Data Systems (TDS) (Nasdaq:TDS), Cavalier Telephone, China Telecom, HarvardNet, North Pittsburgh Telephone Company, CFW Intelos, CADVision, MTT, Integra Telecom, Greece-based ALTEC Group, Capital Explorations Corporation, New Knoxville Telephone Company and Blue Earth Valley Communications.

-- Paradyne`s DSL customer base continued to expand with products deployed in approximately 45 U.S. states, five Canadian provinces and 75 countries.

-- Equant (NYSE:ENT, Paris Bourse:EQU) selected Paradyne`s FrameSaver(R) Service Level Verifier (SLV) to deliver a worldwide service level management solution. A customer is already utilizing this service with installed Paradyne equipment. The addition of Equant as a customer brings the total number of service provider customers using the FrameSaver platform to seven, including MCI WorldCom (Nasdaq:WCOM), Sprint (Nasdaq:FON), Ameritech (NYSE:AIT), GTE (NYSE:GTE), Intermedia Communications (Nasdaq:ICIX), Equant and Broadwing Inc. (NYSE:BRW) formerly IXC.

-- Fifty-percent of FrameSaver Service Level Management revenues came from service providers in the fourth quarter, an increase from 23 percent for the same period in the prior year. In total, more than 65 percent of Paradyne`s $225 million in 1999 revenues came from service providers, up from more than 40 percent in 1998.

-- Paradyne shipped its next generation DSLAM, the Hotwire GranDSLAM on December 1, 1999. The standards-based ATM DSLAM offers the latest ATM switching fabric and quality of service (QoS) technology to integrate delivery of toll-quality voice and high-speed data services. The GranDSLAM supports the broadest range of DSL-based network services, including IP, ATM, Frame Relay, TDM, MAC and Voice over DSL (VoDSL), and will support a range of DSL transport types. Its standards-based architecture will support interoperability with third-party endpoints.

-- Paradyne announced an addition to the Hotwire GranDSLAM -- an 8-port channelized Multirate SDSL (M/SDSL) card for voice and data DSL applications.

-- The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) officially named Paradyne`s Hotwire MVL(TM) (Multiple Virtual Lines) technology as compatible for line sharing. This ruling will allow CLECs using Hotwire MVL to reach customers up to 25,000 feet from the central office, as compared to approximately 15,000 feet with ADSL, which more than doubles the geographic market potential while reducing the cost of copper by up to 66 percent. This ruling marks the third time in 1999 that the FCC recognized Paradyne`s products, previously granting Part 68 registration for SuperLine(TM) and Hotwire MVL technology, deeming both products as safe to deploy in the public switched telephone network.

-- Paradyne announced Hotwire Connected(TM), its interoperability program to extend DSL voice and data solutions to new markets. As part of the Hotwire Connected program, Paradyne is working with industry-leading DSL CPE providers including Cayman Systems Inc., Efficient Networks Inc. (Nasdaq:EFNT), Entrata Communications Corp., Netopia (Nasdaq:NTPA) and Woodwind Communications Systems; and the industry`s three leading VoDSL gateway providers -- CopperCom, Jetstream and TollBridge Technologies.

-- To substantiate the company`s commitment to simplifying and improving DSL interoperability, Paradyne endorsed Conexant`s autobaud technology. AutoBaud is a symmetrical DSL (SDSL) interoperability platform that is gaining wide acceptance from DSL vendors as well as service providers.

-- Paradyne hosted, along with sponsors, Redback Networks (Nasdaq:RBAK), Jetstream Communications, Turnstone Systems and Daleen Technologies (NasdaqALN), the "DSL Business Strategies Conference," on December 7-8, designed for senior executives of network service providers. More than 65 people attended the conference, representing more than 45 CLECs and Independent Telephone Companies.

-- Paradyne and Nomadix announced a partnership to deliver Hotwire Smart Room(TM), a new turnkey DSL solution for the hospitality market and other multi-dwelling unit (MDU) applications.

-- Paradyne introduced a new addition to the FrameSaver SLV family of products -a product designed to support very high speed in-line monitoring. For worldwide use, the product enables our customers to support up to 8Mbps connections to the backbone network which will allow them to more cost effectively deploy their frame relay networks.

Stay long !!!!!!!!

      Grüße!
