Restructuring measures have been successful - Q3 results reveal improvement

As a direct result of the restructuring measures initiated in July 2001, AmaTech AG has been able to reduce its losses by a considerable level. Following consolidated earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of EURO-5.3 million in Q1 and EURO-6.4 million in Q2, negative EBIT for the third quarter was reduced to a total of EURO-2.4 million. It should be noted that the result for the third quarter was influenced by EURO1.4 million in charges due to the reversal of engineering contracts attributable to AmaTech Automation GmbH.

At the end of Q3, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) resulted in EURO-10.2 million. AmaTech AG does not anticipate that its under-par earnings will worsen significantly by the end of the fiscal year.

In the period under review, revenues totalling EURO28.3 million were within the range originally targeted by the company. The level of orders in hand as at 30 September 2001 was worth EURO11.9 million. The revenue target of EURO36 million for the full fiscal year will remain unchanged.

In view of the good level of demand for easy-to-use contactless smart cards for multifunctional applications, the Management of AmaTech AG is confident that turnaround will be achieved in 2002.
