Restrukturierungsprogramm für Lycos Europe weist erste positive Resultate auf

Haarlem/Niederlande, 14. November 2001 - Heute gab Lycos Europe die Ergebnisse für das erste Quartal des Fiskaljahres 2001/2002, d.h. für die Periode von Juli bis September 2001 bekannt. Mit einem Umsatz in Höhe von 32.9 Millionen Euro im abgelaufenen Quartal, das am 30. September 2001 endete, konnte Lycos Europe das Ergebnis um 109 % gegenüber dem vergleichbaren Vorjahreszeitraum steigern. Der Rückgang der Umsätze aus Werbeeinnahmen wurde durch das Umsatzwachstum in den Bereichen e-Commerce und Internetzugang ausgeglichen. 29 % des Gesamtumsatzes wurden durch Werbeschaltungen erwirtschaftet, 35 % durch e-Commerce, 21 % durch Internet-Access und 15 % durch sonstige Erlöse. Vertriebs- und Marketingkosten beliefen sich für das erste Quartal, das am 30. September 2001 zu Ende ging, auf 11.4 Millionen Euro. Dies bedeutet eine Reduzierung um 66 % gegenüber demselben Zeitraum des Vorjahres. Allgemeine und Verwaltungskosten stiegen auf 13,7 Millionen Euro für das abgelaufene Quartal. Der Anstieg von 173 % ist hauptsächlich auf die deutlich gestiegene Mitarbeiterzahl zurückzuführen. Die Kosten für Forschung und Entwicklung beliefen sich auf 11,2 Millionen Euro für das eben abgeschlossene Quartal. Die Kostensteigerung um 564 % ist zurückzuführen auf die Einführung neuer Produkte sowie die fortlaufende Optimierung existierender Produkte. Für Lycos Europe entstanden Restrukturierungskosten in Höhe von 5,0 Millionen Euro für das vergangene Quartal für Restrukturierungen in Deutschland und Frankreich. Die Restrukturierungskosten bestanden hauptsächlich aus Abfindungszahlungen für ausscheidende Mitarbeiter. Das EBITDA-Ergebnis belief sich auf -27,2 Millionen Euro für das abgelaufene Quartal, was eine Verbesserung um 32 % gegenüber dem vorhergegangenen Quartal darstellt (-39,8 Millionen Euro). Im Vergleich zum Vorjahreszeitraum stellt das eine Verbesserung um 8% dar (-29,5 Millionen Euro).

Nokia und Lycos Europe wollen zukünftig im Bereich mobile Nachrichtenservices zusammenarbeiten. Eine entsprechende Vereinbarung sei unterzeichnet worden, hieß es. Die neuen Services auf Grundlage der neuen UMTS-Geräte sollen unter anderem den Versand von Bildern und Videoclips ermöglichen.

Services

Nokia and Lycos Europe today announced that they will work together
to develop Multimedia Messaging Services. Lycos Europe have recently
launched their Mobile Channel, merging its communities with the power
of mobile technology. Lycos` new channel is currently built around
its mainstay SMS service which is the leading SMS web to phone and
phone to web service in Europe. Extending Lycos Mobile with new MMS
features and MMS content gives the users -in a community environment-
