Mit Sex-Lines verdiente Barbarella 5 Mio A$ pro Jahr, das war das Hauptstandbein von Barbarella, dem operativen Haupt-Asset von adultshop, fuer das viel Geld bezahlt wurde. Australische "Puritaner" haben nun ein gesetzl. Verbot erreicht, der ganze Wirtschaftszweig Sex-Phonelines koennte zusammenbrechen (s. Artikel WEST AUSTRALIAN, 8.2).
Damit faellt der Wert des Hauptassets Barbarella drastisch, und es koennte cash fuer die Net-Expansion fehlen.

GOVERNMENT restrictions on phone sex lines could lead to big job losses in the industry and slash one of online erotic retailer AdultShop.com`s major revenue sources. Federal legislation came into force last week obliging people who wish to use 1900 prefix sex lines to opt in. That is, supply written authorisation to their phone company and use a PIN number when making calls.
The calls are often of a highly explicit sexual nature and are billed at a rate of between 70 cents and $4.95 a minute, with mobile phones accruing an additional charge. A spokesman for Communications Minister Richard Alston said the safeguards would prevent parents from being hit with huge phone bills for unauthorised calls made by their children.
But sex industry body the Eros Foundation claims the opt-in provisions of the Telecommunications (Consumer Protection and Service Standards Act) will lead to a huge drop in the number of people using sex lines. Eros spokesman Robbie Swan said the opt-in law would cripple the $1.5 billion per year industry, throwing most of the 3000 sex line operators out of work. Mr Swan said callers would be embarrassed by the need to send a written request, and most would not bother.
"This industry allows a lot of women to make a good safe living and they enjoy the work," he said.
"This is a Harradine-induced Bill. The Government should not be clamping down on sex but should be doing something about violence." More than 1.4 million calls a month are made to sex lines, with a dozen big companies handling the bulk. Mr Swan estimates 800 full and part-time operators in WA alone could lose their jobs.
"AdultShop.com is the biggest in WA and is a significant national operator," Mr Swan said.
According to an Ernst and Young corporate finance report on AdultShop.com, 1999 profit from adult telephone services, its biggest revenue source, was $4.029 million. This is forecast to rise to $5.286 million in 2000. The report describes AdultShop.com`s wholly-owned Barbarellas Adult Communication Services as one of the biggest and most successful in Australia. "The operation of the Act may have an adverse impact on ... adult phone services," the report said. But Malcolm Day, director and 24.3 per cent owner of AdultShop.com, claims revenues will not be slashed.
"It will have an impact but not a huge one because chat lines and dating services are not covered (by the Act)," Mr Day said. He said some job losses could occur among his estimate of 200-300 WA phone operators, of which 50-60 are employed by AdultShop.com. Mr Day said the Act was unworkable because it should be implemented now, but Telstra and other carriers are not yet ready to offer the written request to opt in system.
"It is bad for the industry (and) advertising (for sex lines) can have lead times of up to five months," Mr Day said. A spokesman for Senator Alston said the new system would not necessarily lead to job losses.
"If (usage) does drop, it shows kids were using it," he said.
"The catalyst was unhappy parents with massive phone bills (from sex lines)."
Mr Day said AdultShop.com`s $8 million national marketing campaign would boost online sales, leading to sex lines accounting for a dwindling proportion of the company`s revenue.
He would not disclose the company`s online sales revenue until April when its Web site will have been running for "a solid three months". Listed junior miner Western Minerals changed its name to AdultShop.com and bought the 22-shop Barbarellas sex retailer and Northbridge-based ACS phone sex service from Mr Day and Rod Smith. The back-door listing in June netted the pair about $100 million. Mr Day and Mr Smith, who sit on the board of AdultShop.com, extracted $13 million in cash from the sale of Barbarellas.

Da sollte man Christoph mal genau zu fragen...
mal ganz langsam! Barbarellas macht nur Ladengeschäft, keinen Telefonsex! Diese Sparte wird durch die ACS (Adult Communication Services) abgedeckt. Von daher wird der Zufluß über Barbarellas höchstens durch die Internetseiten abgeleitet.

Stimmt leider nicht, ACS scheint direkt zu Barbarellas zu gehoeren und diese zu 100% zu Adultshop.com, hier nochmal ein Ausschnitt aus obigem Artikel, der klar sagt , dass dies so ist und vollstaendig auf Adultshop`s GuV durchschlaegt.

Das ist sicher richtig und auch keine Topnews. Allerdings gründet sich die Phantasie dieses Wertes nicht auf das Barbarellas Geschäft, sondern auf den weltweiten (Europa, USA, ... Asien) Vertrieb von Erotikartikeln. Wenn das richtig angefasst wird, dann sind 5 Mio A$ in Zukunft die Portokasse des Unternehmens. Darauf baue zumindest ich. Und die Reaktion heute in AUS scheint darauf hinzudeuten, daß das in Australien auch nicht so stark bewertet wird. Australien ist uns im Kurs knapp 10% vorraus (heute um 7% gestiegen).

Malcolm Day scheint diesem Artikel nach ja in dieser Restriktion keinen besonders großen Einfluß auf dieses Geschäft zu sehen.
Wenn ich das beim Überfliegen der Meldung richtig verstanden habe, geht es im künftigen Gesetz beim Nutzen der 1900-Nummern einfach "nur" darum, daß der Inhaber des Telefons die Nutzug dieser Nummern bei seiner Telefongesellschaft schriftlich freigeben muß und daß er dann eine PIN mitgeteilt bekommt, die er bei jeder Nutzung eingeben muß.
Damit fallen zwar die Umsätze weg, die Barbarellas durch unerlaubte Nutzung einnahm (z.B. durch die beliebte Nutzung des Firmentelefons für den Telefon-Quicky in der Mittagspause), aber der große Batzen der einsamen Nutzer zuhause bleibt erhalten.
Deshalb schreibt Malcolm Day auch, daß es zwar einen Einfluß haben wird aber nicht einen großen.
Von Wegfall der Einnahmequelle kann also KEINE REDE SEIN!!!
