Die kam ziemlich verschwurmelt daher. Allerdings war zwischen den ellenlangen Zwischenstücken und Improvisationen sogar ein wirklich hörbares Stück , das öfter mal auf BFBS gespielt wurde (John Peel - natürlich !)

...in der tat linea – ich habe es einfach nicht übers herz gebracht die stringless-guitar in brachialer Blackmore smash-methode zum erklingen zu bringen, sondern lediglich durch zärtliches streicheln...
interessanter interpret übrigens in deinem klangbeispiel – Patrick Moraz(der alte „Yes“ tastenmann) dürfte wohl für die pionier-innovation des keyboards ähnlich bedeutend gewesen sein, wie Cage für die komposition...

@cambo: genau zu diesem release vom album „Jazz“ habe ich seinerzeit mein erstes mal Queen live erlebt. allerdings haben sich die jungs in köln wohl so nah am dom leider nicht getraut die showeinlage mit den unbekleideten radlerinnen zu bringen(vielleicht war aber auch nur die bühne nicht groß genug dort)...

...nachdem sie vor einigen jahren mit ihrem famosen „Trying to Kiss the Sun“ bereits hier in den einschlägigen musikthreads furore gemacht hatten, melden sich die „Pink Floyd aus Freising“ RPWL (die ja als kompetente Pink Floyd coverband begonnen haben und sich mit obengenannten album eigenständig freigeschwommen haben) mit einem überraschungscoup zurück – für ihre neue single „Roses“ haben sie keinen geringeren als den früheren Stiltskin & Genesis sänger Ray Wilson rekrutiert, mit dem sie gemeinsam auch gerade „live“ im Rockpalast zu sehen waren...

der Vergleich mit dem Weßbrot ist wirklich gut...

warum du nicht erwähnt wurdest, liegt vielleicht daran, dass du
deine „stringless guitar“ nicht laut genug bespielt hat, im
Gegensatz zu Cage, dessen “closed piano" in der Komposition
ja öfter zu hören ist... und zwar von Beginn an:

"The song "Nowth Upon Nacht" opens with a startlingly
loud thump on the piano key-cover..."



Und sein berühmtes "prepared piano", entstand anlässlich einer
Aufführung aus purer Notwendigkeit. "...Auf und vor der Bühne gab es
keinen Platz für die Schlaginstrumente, mit denen er eine
"afrikanische" Atmosphäre zu schaffen beabsichtigte; deshalb
begann er, an dem einzigen verfügbaren Instrument, einem Klavier,
Schlagzeugeffekte auszuprobieren...

Als Mittel für die Präparation wählte Cage Schrauben, Bolzen und Keile
aus Metall, Gummi und Holz, Filzstreifen, Teile aus Plastik und Stoff. Je
nachdem, in welcher Form und an welcher Stelle der Saiten sie angebracht
werden, bringen sie gänzlich unterschiedene Klangresultate hervor...."

@wolaufensie: ich lach mich weg das mit dem weissbrot ist gut... von der aufnahmezeit her war wohl doch, wie du schon vermutet hast, Junior Walker das original – von ihm war es bereits 1969 ein hit und B.J. Thomas hat den song dann im jahre 1970 auf seinem „Everybody’s out of town“ – album gesungen.

@linea: ...innovative sache das, was John Cage so auf die beine gestellt hat... - aber das ist ja mal wieder typisch für meinen alten kumpel John... – dass neben dem „closed piano“ auf dieser aufnahme auch noch meine „stringless guitar“ zu hören ist, hat er glatt in den credits vergessen zu erwähnen...

Mr. "Raindrops keep falling on my head"- B.J. Thomas, der so blass aussieht, wie ein Weissbrot, dass nach halber Backzeit schon rausgenommen wurde, hat sich sogar mal ganz erfolgreich im Soulbereich getätigt. Dabei klingt das Stück nun wirklich nicht nach ihm. Junior Walker hat es auch mal gespielt, jedoch durch die relativ grosse Anzahl der Thomas-Version nehme ich mal an, dass dies die originalere Version ist.
