"Sorry, only in englisch": aeco builds for the future

Aichach, Germany 21 March 2002: With the departure of former CEO, Jacques Fiers, and CFO,
Johannes van Eijden, a new board of directors has been appointed at aeco. Co-founders of ContTec
GmbH, Erich Hoffmann and Hans Ostermayer, have become CEO and CTO respectively. Hoffmann will
take charge of sales and marketing and Ostermayer will look after R&D and operations.

Two new members have joined the management team, acting as joint CFOs: Michael Hasenstab and
Robert Kaess. Hasenstab will be based in the UK, and Kaess in Germany. Albert Heikens, the former
head of the supervisory board has also left, and has been replaced by Dr Jens Bodenkamp, an
experienced venture capitalist with a strong technological background gained primarily at Intel. The share
structure remains unchanged with around 60% of aeco shares trading publicly and 23% held by the
existing management. "We have a very strong and balanced management team now and the new
arrangement is already working extremely well," says Hasenstab. "We have two strong technical people
at the centre and two strategic, financial people, one in each of our main manufacturing locations. For the
first time, we are operating as one company, rather than two."

Following the collapse of Toolex International, the company has hotly denied rumours that aeco may
have to close. "These rumours are totally wrong," says Hasenstab. "Not only are we not liquidating, we
are growing the company based on our excellent technology. We have always invested significant
resources into Research & Development, which pays dividends at times like this. A sign of our strength
in development of new products for the optical media industry is the recently launched argus, another
milestone in off-line testing of the entire CD and DVD family. Within the very short period of time since its
launch, almost 20 systems have been sold. Furthermore, the stratos - for measurement of thin layer
photo resist down to 20nm - is currently being introduced to the market. This system is key for the
production of RW and RAM media. Another example is the fact that we are the only company in the
world that has an electrical tester for the new DataPlay digital media, which puts us at least two years
ahead of everyone else. We are planning a number of additional product launches throughout the
remainder of the year."

aeco is unique in that it not only designs and develops optical inspection equipment and electrical
testers, but also has its own independent test facilities. Trading as Testronic Labs, with facilities at
Pinewood Studios UK and Burbank - close to Hollywood - in the US, the test facilities enable title owners
and publishers to verify DVD content, compliance, functionality and `real-world` compatibility in an
independent, professional laboratory environment. Technical evaluation of VHS materials and production
processes is also available at both locations. Testronic Labs MD Cliff Price said, "Our clients respect the
cost effective, independent product assessment and treat the qualification function as an integral part of
their disc production process."

"These test facilities will play an important role in our future," adds Hasenstab. "Through our testing
business, we are gaining access to the titleholders who, at the end of the day, also have an influence on
who produces their products and what kind of lines they use. So we are not just in direct contact with the
replication plants and line manufacturers; we are in contact with the titleholders as well. We cover the
complete chain."

aeco currently serves three of the five major title holders in this area. "We are attracting a lot of new
customers, and we hope to count all five major studios as our customers by the end of the year," says
Hasenstab. "We are planning to expand into Asia and open more test facilities within Europe. Also,
although we currently test DVDs, there is no reason why, potentially, we shouldn`t move into areas like
testing games in the future."

With a solid product portfolio, careful cost control, and a strong management team, aeco not only plans
to ride out the current downturn in the replication industry, but to grow stronger as well.

Die Homepage wird auch langsam wieder. Und der Laden macht zu ? Vielleicht wird`s ja noch richtig spannend (am Geregelten Markt) !

Hab mir auch mal die Homepage angeschaut bzw. die IR-Abteilung kontaktiert. Dachte auch, dass es die Firma bald nicht mehr geben wird. Aber anscheinend werden wir von Aeco noch positives in der Zukunft hören. Der Umzug nach Aichach (liegt praktisch vor meiner Haustür), neues Management, die Präsenz auf Messen deuten darauf hin, dass wir es doch nicht mit einem Insolvenzkandidaten zu tun haben, wie allgemein behauptet wird.

Was mich auch erstaunt hab: meine Mail wurde noch am selben Tag beantwortet mit dem Hinweis, dass in Kürze ein Statement bezüglich der Geschäftsprognosen 2002 und 2003 erscheinen wird.

Hab letztes Jahr recht gut mir Aeco verdient - war ja der richtige Zockerwert - und hab mir bei Kursen um die 0,20 jetzt wieder eine Position ins Depot gelegt. Denke, wenn die Restrukturierungsmassnahmen greifen, dass wir wieder deutlich höhere Kurse sehen werden.

Ist natürlich keine Sache von heute auf morgen, da im Geregelten Markt einfach das Interesse der Investoren fehlt, aber diese Position habe ich auf Sicht von einigen Monaten angelegt und da kann sich schon einiges tun.

Nachrichten: aeco meldet vorläufige Geschäftszahlen für 2001
Wie die aeco N.V. ad hoc mitteilt, lag der Konzernumsatz im Geschäftsjahr 2001 gem. einem
vorläufigen Abschluss bei 7,3 Mio. EUR nach 17,9 Mio. EUR im Geschäftsjahr 2000. Das
Vorsteuerergebnis sank auf -12,6 (i.V. +1,66) Mio. EUR, der Jahresfehlbetrag auf -12,4 (+0,8) Mio. EUR,
entsprechend -1,91 (+0,13) EUR je Aktie. Das stark negative Ergebnis des Geschäftsjahres 2001 sei
durch den erheblichen Umsatzrückgang, den einmaligen Abschreibungsbedarf auf Forderungen sowie
außerplanmäßigen Abschreibungen auf das Umlaufvermögen bedingt. Die Liquidität betrug zum
Bilanzstichtag 3 (9,5) Mio. EUR. Für das laufende Geschäftsjahr rechne man mit einem Umsatz auf
Vorjahresniveau in Höhe von 7,0 bis 8,0 Mio. EUR sowie mit einem Vorsteuerergebnis zwischen -1,5
Mio. EUR und -2,5 Mio. EUR.

Wie weiter berichtet wird, sei das erste Quartal 2002 bedingt durch die zusätzlichen Aufwendungen im
Zusammenhang mit der Anpassung der Kostenstruktur an das niedrigere Umsatzniveau und das
unverändert schlechte Marktumfeld schwierig verlaufen. Der Konzernumsatz lag auf dem Vorjahresniveau
in Höhe von 1,3 Mio. EUR, das Ergebnis nach Steuern stieg gegenüber dem Vorjahresquartal auf -0,9
(-1,3) Mio. EUR, so die Meldung weiter.

Ich denke, es war weit Schlimmeres zu befürchten. Weiterhin glaube ich, dass mit der Umbildung der Geschäftsführung ein realistischer Versuch unternommen wurde bzw. wird, dass Unternehmen zu retten. Die vorgelegten Zahlen schließen eine Rettung zumindest nicht aus. Aeco hatte bzw. hat Potenzial, was die Zahlen vor 2001 zeigen. Es ist nicht völlig aus der Luft gegriffen, dass Aeco es schafft.
