Hi an alle ...

Nachdem sich Darksseker seit dem Absturz nicht mehr gemeldet hat, mach ich jetzt einfach mal ganz vermessen einen neuen Thread auf und hoffe, daß sich hier möglichst viele positive Meldungen sammeln lassen !

Ich bleib nach diesem Absturz trotzdem drin. Jetzt isses auch schon egal !

Irgendwie will ich aus Überzeugung in einem Linuxwert investiert bleiben. Und ich tu mich schwer mit einer Alternative - Redhat und VA sind mir (immer noch) zu teuer und außerdem fahren die auch Verluste ein.

Auf der anderen Seite hoffe ich natürlich auch auf eine Übernahme, oder eben auf ein Verschwinden von Cowpland ! Hätte jemand eine Idee für einen der Corel übernehmen könnte ?

The products are currently offered on the Windows platform but Corel plans to aggressively develop them for Linux(r). Corel will retain ownership to all future versions of the software developed using these source codes. As part of the deal, Corel division GraphicCorp(tm) will license content to IMSI for its online offerings.

FLOW! is a powerful flow chart and diagraming application targeted for professionals in organizations of any size. FLOW! will help organize and convey abstract concepts and complex business plans through easy-to-understand flow charts and diagrams. With the robust drawing tool set and dynamic layout features, businesses will be able to strengthen their communications strategies.

TurboProject is a flexible project management application which targets the needs of anyone planning a project, from the small business and home office user to department managers or administrators. Future versions of this technology will allow for the roundtripping of Microsoft Project files.

Both applications are currently available on the Windows 95, Windows 98 , Windows NT platforms and soon on Linux.

Wie Corel mitteilt, ist die Office-Suite WordPerfect Office 2000 für Linux fertiggestellt und sollte Anfang April in den Läden bereitstehen. Es wird zwei Versionen geben: Standard und Deluxe. Die Standardversion wird in den USA 109 Dollar kosten, die Deluxe-Version 159 Dollar.

Die Standardversion enthält WordPerfect 9, Quattro Pro 9, Corel Presentations 9, CorenCENTRAL 9, Netscape Navigator, Acrobat Reader, sowie Handbücher, über 100 Fonts, über 1200 Clipart-Bilder, 20 Fotos und 30 Tage Installations-Support. Die Deluxe-Version enthält darüber hinaus noch Paradox 9, Netscape Communicator, über 1000 Fonts, über 12000 Clipart-Bilder, 200 Fotos, eine limitierte Version von Railroad Tycoon II sowie weitere Spiele-Demos, und einen Pinguin.

Hi robbinet,

jetzt erst recht! Ich habe heute Corel nachgekauft. Ich hatte im
November letzten Jahres noch für 13 gekauft und leider nicht auf
dem ATH verkauft, aber egal jetzt. Auch ich hätte nie gedacht, dass
Corel noch mal unter 10 Euro landet. Nach einem Super-Kommentar auf
dem Yahoo-Board gestern oder so habe ich mich entschlossen, nochmal
nachzukaufen. Wenn der Inprise-Deal durchgeht, hat Corel nicht nur
die Office-Suite usw. sondern auch Werkzeuge für die Entwicklung unter
Linux. Ich bin immer noch davon überzeugt, dass Corel langfristig eine
sehr gute Zukunft hat, solange der Inprise-Deal durchgeht. Bei all dieser negativen Stimmungsmache muss jede positive Nachricht letztlich
die Vertrauenswürdigkeit stärken. Ich bin der Meinung, dass die Ankündigung mit den nächsten 2 Quartalen zum ersten Mal ehrlich war.
Man sieht an allen anderen Linux-Firmen, dass eigentlich keiner die
Erwartungen erfüllen konnte (RHAT, COBT etc...). Das zeigt mit, dass
das Abstrafen von Corel viel zu stark ausgefallen ist. Warten wir ausserdem nochmal ab, was mit MSFT heute passiert. Vielleicht ist meine Sichtweise zu sehr einseitig für diese Firma oder für ein kluges Investment, ich glaube aber, dass der Turnaround geschafft ist.

Hier noch ein Posting über einen CNBC-Talk von Raging Bull kopiert:

Two comments...... Tonight on CNBC when they talked about MSFT and the Dept of Justice they mentioned opening up source code....then they mentioned Corel and other Linux companies.......2nd point.....Last Thursday in The Dallas Morning News...Personal Technology section there was an article.....Linux Casts A Lengthening Shadow.......in the article it mentions that people who like windows will find it easy to use Corel Linux...... The article ends by saying "It (Linux) is maturing faster than any other operating system in history. Within the foreseeable future, Linux is going to be a very, very viable option for a wide range of people who never heard of it today" By the way....the quote is from Dr Daniel Frye...program director of Linux Technology at IBM.
Let`s hope he`s right and that it`s sooner rather than later.....

Hallo ihr beiden!

Ich geselle mich auch mal dazu. Vor allem, weil man mit den
Corel-Jüngern ganz nett plaudern kann. Ich war zwar nie in
Corle selbst investiert, war aber mit Inprise und bin mit
Graphon doch dabei.

Mein Waterloo habe ich mit Santa Cruz erlebt. Im Hype gekauft,
stetig nach unten gegangen, guten Freunden wärmstens empfohlen,
und dann dieses A. von CEO, der kurz vor miesen Zahlen seine
Scheine raushaut, nachdem er zwei Monate vorher gesagt hatte,
daß alles besser wird. Die Konsequenzen, die ich gezogen habe:
alles verkaufen. Sollte der Wert wieder anziehen, gibt es genug
Leute, die die steigenden Kurse ausnutzen und für ihren Einstiegs-
preis wieder verkaufen. Folge ist m.E., daß sich in solchen
Fällen der Kurs lange genug in Bereichen bewegt, in denen man
noch günstig einsteigen kann, wenn man im Grunde von der Firma
überzeugt ist. Gehts weiter bergab, hat man gut lachen. Man ist
nicht mehr dabei.

Nach den Zahlen erscheint mir übrigens der Zusammenschluss mehr als
fraglich. Immerhin müssen 50% der Inprise-Aktionäre zustimmen.
Seit dem Merger ist`s mit Inprise aber stetig bergab gegangen,
nach einer schönen Rally. Ob`s stimmt oder nicht, aber jeder
Inprise-Aktionär wird dafür Corel verantwortlich machen.
Ich würde (ich betone: würde) daher auf jeden Fall Inprise kaufen.
Kommt es zu dem Merger, habt ihr Corle mit ca. 1$ Discount gekauft.
Platzt das ganze, springt Inprise mindestens 50% an. Und: Inprise
hat auch ohne Corel jede Menge Linux-Phantasie.

Was an den Zahlen im übrigen auffällt, ist, daß Corel in der
Weihnachtszeit offensichtlich schlechte Gecshäfte gemacht hat.
Das gibt mir arg zu denken, da Corel im Privatkundengeschäft
sehr aktiv ist.

Auf einen Rücktritt Cowplands zu hoffen, erscheint mir zu
spekulativ. Sollte der Merger platzen, wäre es aber sehr nahe-
liegend.


PS:
Ich hoffe nicht, daß ihr denkt ich würde downpushen. Das würde mir
mit amerkanischen Aktien ganz gewiss eh nicht gelingen.

Hi Everybody!

There`s some interesting stuff happening in Ottawa...watch closely for a new Linux IPO scheduled for TSE this year - REBEL.COM partially backed by Corel who have an ownership position. They are doing a private placement now at a cost of $10.00 CAD/share for $300M CAD. Main competitor is Cobalt Networks Inc with a market cap of $1.6B USD. Cobalt and Rebel have similar revenues. The relationship between Rebel and Corel (aside from them both being in Silicon Valley North) is that Rebel bought Netwinder from Corel in exchange for stock. I`m not a fan of Cowpland BUT this is what he does really well - he is a good entrepreneur and venture capitalist and that`s what he should be doing...not running Corel... If Corel can get out of it`s slump then there`s an interesting situation where Corel forms the hob of a number of other companies in which it has a large ownership stake like Rebel, Newlix, OEone, LinuxForce and GraphOn. Over the next few days we have to keep our eyes on what happens with the Microsoft judgment and the impact that will have on Linux.

bin. Zur Zeit haben wir noch +20% in USA. Ich hoffe, der
Russen-Deal und die Ankündigung der Rebel-IPO bringen den
Kurs wieder auf Trab. Corel ist so verachtet worden und
von allen Investoren gemieden und mit Strong-Sell bedacht,
dass es eine wahre Explosion geben würde, falls das Potential
von den Herren/Frauen Investoren mal erkannt wird.

Inprise war meine erste Aktien, die habe ich seit 94 im Depot
da ich von der Software ueberzeugt bin.
Leider hab ich noch kein richtiges Geld damit gemacht.
Vor 2 Monaten habe ich noch Corel (Kurs 21 Dollar) gekauft, dann kam
der Merger und beide Werte sind eingebrochen.

Ich denke wir habe das hauptsächlich den Shortys zu verdanken. Ich werde
beide Positionen halten, da es jetzt eh egal ist.

Überlege ob ich zukaufen soll. Die neuen Borland Produkte Jbuilder und App.Server sind
gut, bin gespannt auf Kylix.

Stars. Russian software distributor CPS has announced Corel Linux Download
special edition. The product is based upon the new Corel Linux distribution
announced by Corel in late 1999.

Corel Linux is available in three versions, including Standard, Deluxe and
shareware Download; each has different set of accompanying products and
utilities. The distribution includes setup wizards for X-server, network
configuration, local and remote printers, as well as SAMBA software for sharing
files with Windows networks.

Hardware requirements include Pentium or higher processor, minimum 24 MB RAM (64
MB recommended), CD-ROM drive, PCI VGA video adapter, and 500 MB of disk space.

CPS offers its Corel Linux Download distribution instead of expensive commercial

Kit 1.2.2, Inprise JBuilder 3 Foundation development suite, as well as demo

Some thoughts about the Microsoft verdict...my guess would be that since the verdict was delayed on Tuesday, that the US Govt. and Microsoft must be nearing some agreement. If they were far apart one would think that the courts would simply rule and be done with it. Microsoft must be struggling to split the company into two parts and the Govt. probably wants a breakup similar to the Baby Bells in the late `70`s.

I don`t know what the rest of you think but I think something is brewing in Ottawa because within the last 90 days, most of the major e-companies in Ottawa have announced major efforts in the Linux area. Even Cognos and Calian have gotten into the act. Have Matthews and Cowpland gotten together again? Thoughts?

Daß der Sprung nach oben korrigiert wurde war klar - Gott sei Dank nicht so schlimm. Hier wieder eine tolle Meldung !

Die sehr unsaubere Schriftdarstellung und die, im Vergleich zu Windows komplizierte Schriftenverwaltung war auf Desktop-Linuxsystemen bis jetzt ein echtes Problem. Die Einbindung des Bitream Font-Server ist ein Riesenfortschritt. Gerade gegenüber der Linuxkonkurrenz wie Staroffice oder KOffice !

Die Einzelhandelsverkaufsenwicklung sieht mir recht positiv aus. Corel hat seinen Anteil extrem gesteigert.

Here`s a thought...I`ve been noticing a disproportionate number of companies reporting higher than expected losses for the last operating quarter. It would be interesting to have some data on how much of this revenue or profit downturn can be attributed to customers delaying buying decisions because of Y2K. If that is in fact the case, then we could find a pickup in this current earnings quarter. Does anybody have any data?

As for Corel, the last reported quarter was truly lousy but the combined effect of stellar Linux growth, abovementioned Y2K effect and growing Linux market share, should have a positive impact on the value of the stock. The negatives I see are Mike Cowpland himself and the current tech. market conditions. Once we get into June we should have a clearer picture. I`m planning to be in Ottawa within the next two weeks and will do some checking around with my broker friends and some people I know who are close to Corel.

I have another Ottawa company people might be interested in following: JetForm trading in Europe WKN 886827. The company leads in the electronic forms business. The stock is down on poor earnings and trading around $10 down from a high of $30 about 18 months ago. Here`s what`s interesting... the company is currently trading at book value X1.3. The correction took the stock from $13.10 down to $9.00 and then picked up to $10.5. Like Corel, JFM had a bad last quarter but interestingly, the people I know in the Ottawa market are getting increasingly keen on the stock and most of the moves come out of the home city first because of insider moves. Consensus is the stock should double 12-18 months out. Anybody interested in following this story?

Here`s a thought...I`ve been noticing a disproportionate number of companies reporting higher than expected losses for the last operating quarter. It would be interesting to have some data on how much of this revenue or profit downturn can be attributed to customers delaying buying decisions because of Y2K. If that is in fact the case, then we could find a pickup in this current earnings quarter. Does anybody have any data?

As for Corel, the last reported quarter was truly lousy but the combined effect of stellar Linux growth, abovementioned Y2K effect and growing Linux market share, should have a positive impact on the value of the stock. The negatives I see are Mike Cowpland himself and the current tech. market conditions. Once we get into June we should have a clearer picture. I`m planning to be in Ottawa within the next two weeks and will do some checking around with my broker friends and some people I know who are close to Corel.

I have another Ottawa company people might be interested in following: JetForm trading in Europe WKN 886827. The company leads in the electronic forms business. The stock is down on poor earnings and trading around $10 down from a high of $30 about 18 months ago. Here`s what`s interesting... the company is currently trading at book value X1.3. The correction took the stock from $13.10 down to $9.00 and then picked up to $10.5. Ich werde jetzt für 10$ meine Bestände stetig erhöhen. Weil spätestens
wenn Corel Draw für Linux im Spätsommer raus ist, wrid der Breakeven
im 4. Quartal erreicht werden. Durch Rebel.com wird das ganz auch
realistisch möglich sein 2000 mit Gewinn abzuschließen

Corel ist jetzt unter 8 Dollar. Ich muss eingestehen, dass
Corel bis jetzt kein gutes Investment war. Im Vergleich ist
Corel aber nicht so gefallen wie RHAT oder LNUX. Dennoch stimmt
mich der ganze Linux-Sektor nicht froh. Es feht irgendwie an
Standards, an gemeinsamen Aktionen untereinander gegen die Vormacht
von MSFT etc. Es scheint als ob man hier wirklich erst mit Frist von
2-3 Jahren deutlichere Gewinne machen kann. Das hab ich mir aber
anders vorgestellt und leider nicht den rechtzeitigen Ein-Ausstieg
geschafft.

ja, jetzt verkaufen waere eh schwachsinn...

ach ja, ich hab mir auch das cl direkt bei corel geordert, es kam nach ca. 6 wochen per post, aber die installation hat auf 2 rechnern zwegs unterschiedlichen problemen nicht funktioniert. - andere distris laufen!
in den ng sind die leute auch ganz schoen am schimpfen.
da muss sich schon noch einiges aendern.

corel liegt bei mir momentan mit -79% im depot.
habe mich in letzter zeit massiv über den kursrutsch geärgert.
ich bin zum glück noch anfang märz mit cisco,cmgi,china,aol abgesprungen. nun nutze ich die hohe verluste von corel um die gewinne zu drücken. dazu habe ich gestern so zufällig hier im w-o board nen tip gelesen. ich steige heute aus corel raus, realisiere verluste und steige wieder sofort ein. nutze vielleicht die gelegenheit noch welche bei diesen almosenpreis zu kaufen.
das hin und her wird mir so 20€ kosten.
echt guter tip !!
jetzt kann corel von mir aus für ne weile eine schlaftablette nehmen.

Hi Finanza,

jede Distri hat seine Probleme sobald es um Treiber für versch.
Hardware geht. Mit dem OS macht Corel sowieso kein Geld, das war
doch nur ein Schachzug, um ein OS und! dann Applikationen zu haben
wie WP4L oder Draw und Ventura. Deshalb ist das nicht ganz so tragisch, ausserdem kommt bald die überarbeitete Version vom CLOS.
