Internap Network Services Posts 1Q Profit on Higher Sales, Ups 2006 Revenue Guidance


ATLANTA (AP) -- Internap Network Services Corp., which provides routing services for networks, said Thursday it posted a first-quarter profit, reversing a year-ago loss, because of higher sales.
The company also boosted its guidance for 2006 revenue above Wall Street expectations, as it adds to its client base.

Shares of the company rose 9 cents, or 6.6 percent, to $1.45 in after-hours trading. The stock -- which on Tuesday hit a 52-week high of $1.44 -- had closed up 6 cents at $1.36 on the American Stock Exchange.

Net income totaled $541,000, or break even per share, compared with a loss of $570,000, or break even per share, in last year's first quarter. Excluding stock-based compensation costs, the company said it would have earned 1 cent per share in the quarter.

Quarterly revenue grew 13 percent to $42.6 million. Analysts were expecting the company to break-even on a per-share basis, on $40.2 million in sales, according to Thomson Financial.

The company said it added 50 customers in the first quarter, upping its base to 2,142 under contract.

Looking ahead, the company said it expects revenue this year to grow between 10 percent and 12 percent over 2005 levels, up from prior guidance of a 5 percent to 7 percent gain. That would mean anticipated 2006 revenue of $169.1 million to $172.2 million.

Analysts are expecting more modest annual revenue of $164.5 million
