Umsatz = null.

Dines cheers uranium, self-promotes at conference

      "origianl uranium bug"

      2007-02-14 15:20 ET - Street Wire

      By Stockwatch Business Reporter

Uranium was a hot topic of discussion on Saturday afternoon as James Dines lectured a capacity crowd about the enormous returns his radioactive metal investments have seen. About 900 people packed the Westin Bayshore's Grand Ballroom to listen to "the original uranium bug," who offered his thoughts on the uranium bull market. This presentation was part of the 2007 World Outlook Financial Conference organized by High Performance Communications Inc.

In a talk broadcast live via satellite from San Francisco, Calif., entitled "How Will We Know to Sell Uraniums?" Mr. Dines spent most of his hour discussing uranium and other precious-metal picks he has made in The Dines Letter.

Attendees were left wondering exactly when the radioactive gravy train might end; Mr. Dines did not give any indication that he expects to unload his interest in the increasingly expensive metal anytime soon.

Instead he boldly predicted that humanity is at a crossroads in its development, having "come to the end of burning things" for energy. A constant message throughout his talk was that it is not too late to get into uranium stocks.

Punning that "it is better to be Swedish then sour-ish," Mr. Dines made a few comments about areas he expects to rival Saskatchewan's Athabasca region. He noted Mawson Resources Ltd. and Continental Precious Minerals Inc. are already exploring the Scandinavian country. After mentioning Labrador as one potential uranium hotspot, Mr. Dines also touted Australia, cheering it as the future "Saudi Arabia of uranium." He especially likes Canada, Sweden and Australia because they keep investments safe from third-world conflict.

Mr. Dines's presentation was introduced by Michael Campbell, the host of Saturday morning's Money Talks radio show on Vancouver's CKNW and High Performance Communications figurehead.

Mr. Campbell also moderated the question-and-answer period with Mr. Dines, scheduled between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., after the stock-picker's one-hour talk.

      Gives glowing reviews

Having first recommended uranium at $8 (U.S.) per pound, Mr. Dines predicted the nuclear fuel would rise to $50 (U.S.), then $75 (U.S.) and now $100 (U.S.). He says prices could temporarily spike to $130 (U.S.) per pound.

Among the Canadian companies discussed, Mr. Dines specifically mentioned Mega Uranium Ltd., Denison Mines Corp. and troubled uranium giant Cameco Corp.

Mr. Dines first recommended Cameco, the world's largest uranium producer, in June, 2003, during one of his first pushes into the then-bargain-priced metal. After first buying at $5.21 (U.S.) per share, he sold the interest at the beginning of October, 2006, becoming a self-called "whistleblower" about the condition of the company's Cigar Lake mine. Pied Piper-like, he led his followers from Cameco before the mine flooded later that month. Responding to a question from the audience about the waterlogged mine, Mr. Dines expressed concern that "Cigar Lake might well be lost."

In addition to denigrating tying up money in Cameco, which he called "dead money," Mr. Dines expressed unhappiness with the newly merged Denison Mines, noting it is really "the old International Uranium [Corp]." He continues to list the company's stock in his newsletter, but is not buying right now.

Mr. Dines cheered a 552-per-cent profit from his Cameco investment, and told followers to put the newly liberated cash into Mega Uranium and Pinetree Capital Ltd. He likes the junior miner Mega and recommends that investors buy it and Pinetree Capital in tandem. In the January issue of The Dines Letter he calls these companies "two sides to the same coin."

Mr. Dines first recommended Mega Uranium when it was known as Maple Minerals Corp. as early as February, 2005. On July 29, 2005, a TSX Venture Exchange bulletin reported paperwork had been filed for an assignment agreement with a third party named James Dines. This deal granted 150,000 shares to that James Dines in exchange for the right to use the name Mega Uranium.

Pinetree Capital is an investment firm focusing on small-cap stocks whose holdings include Mega Uranium. Mr. Dines has been recommending the company's stock since November, 2005. He did not mention a recent investigation by the Ontario Securities Commission into the company and its chairman and chief executive officer, Sheldon Inwentash, for alleged manipulative and insider trading.

Speak up when you get the chance

Having booked the satellite for about 90 minutes, program organizers must have been concerned when Mr. Dines, at about 2:20 p.m., was prompted by an off-camera assistant that he had until 3 p.m to pontificate. Audience members were expecting a half-hour question-and-answer session at around 2:30 p.m., and Mr. Campbell reminded Mr. Dines of the schedule.

Rushing through the remaining 17 slides from his presentation, all of which appeared to be reprinted charts from recent editions of The Dines Letter, Mr. Dines then took questions. After a few minutes he told Mr. Campbell he would like to use the remaining time to finish his preplanned remarks, noting "I've got a good joke."

Mr. Dines did answer several questions, and was asked about his feelings about other commodities like ethanol, oil and real estate. He noted that oil was destined to become the world's most precious substance, but eschewed talk of green-fuel pitches. Besides believing that humanity will soon stop burning things for energy, Mr. Dines rhetorically asks whether biofuel proponents are mad, burning "food for fuel." As for local real estate, Mr. Dines said, "Run for your life."

When asked about possible threats to the uranium bull market, Mr. Dines listed several political concerns. These include politicians rejecting his belief that global warming requires a move toward nuclear power as well as the always-present spectre of terrorism. Both of these concerns also applied to his thoughts about oil.

One brave attendee asked Mr. Dines about the next big thing; Mr. Dines asked his audience in a conspiratorial tone whether they could keep a secret. Acting as Mr. Dines's straight man, Mr. Campbell responded the audience could, to which Mr. Dines replied: "So can I." Readers of The Dines Letter should have no fear, however, for Mr. Dines promises to continue to print his prophesies in future editions.

Always go out on a joke

Having mugged for the camera throughout the talk, Mr. Dines was given the last eight minutes of question-and-answer time to finish his presentation.

He wrapped up with a few comments about Canadian politics and the War on Terror. He ended with an off-colour joke about an elderly couple having an affair in their doctor's office while OHIP (Ontario's socialized health insurance provider) pays the bills. Then, time was up

Antwort auf Beitrag Nr.: 27.747.025 von mrbk1234 am 16.02.07 14:26:54die Cans etc. interessieren sich aber, was z.B. Sprott zum Gold und zu Melkior etc. zu sagen hat:

John Embry, chief investment strategist, Sprott Asset Management

      On Gold
I think gold is doing magnificent job in face of skepticism, driven by physical demand, overwhelming sources: mines, scrap, central banks..I predict $775 this year, the way that things are shaping in US and global currency creation that is going on, I see $1000 easy..significant part of story is US dollar, also other currencies because they do not want US dollar to fall, creating all sorts of their own money to keep on buying US dollar, charade..everyone keeps on bottoming of housing market, I see free-fall, think that Fed is sugar-coating, we could definitely have recession at some point, depends on how long they can keep consumer going..consumer is almost dying now given number of bankruptcies, foreclosures, savings rate -1%..I still think that any next move in interest rate will be down, careful because they are still trying to juggle economy and US dollar, they prefer US dollar

      Long/Short, Technicals of Gold
Commitment of Traders report is cause for worry in short-term, commercials, bullion banks who are playing the market are extremely short compared to speculators, tech funds, black-box guys who are long..traditionally they put enough pressure on the market when these speculators are long, break them, clean them out, cover shorts..now one day there will be spectacular commercial failure, that is when gold price will go nuts

We are at key technical level, $658..if it clears with gusto, I think $700 very quickly, that is why were are having battle, and it is a battle..

ORVANA MINERALS (TSE:ORV): I would definitely be buying here, Bolivia factor overdone, do not think this mine will be nationalized..generating cash quickly, upper mineralized zone NAV probably worth what stock is worth, lacks sponsorship because of Bolivia issue

MELKIOR RESOURCES (CVE:MKR): I own this company, purchase in tax shelter, I think any one of three properties interesting..for a penny stock, this is real good one

MAXY GOLD (CVE:MXD): Maxy is good representative of junior gold space, ones that may have good projects but have poor promotion have fallen away..interesting project in China, not a lot of shares outstanding..current price of stock extraordinarily cheap, we need to see more money coming back into junior gold space

BUFFALO GOLD (CVE:BUF.U): I am long Buffalo..good project, in rather gamey part of world Papa New Guinea..drilling results today, I have been buying at these prices

GOLD EAGLE MINES (TSE:GEA) : I own Gold Eagle, it is an interesting play, if you believe optimistics, there are lots of high-grade ounces up there at Red Lake, problem is they are very deep..this stock came from 40 cents, trading >$8, also merged..no longer risk-free, would rather look for next 40 cent stock

PETAQUILLA MINERALS (TSE:PTQ): flies under radar, met with one of their representatives..they are planning to spin off copper, interesting gold property, showing well although not enough ounces..I would be inclined to stick with it, sponsorship, tightly-held

AFRICAN GOLD GROUP (CVE:AGG): I own over 10% of African Gold, operating in Ghana, Mali, just pulled a very good hole..extraordinarily cheap stock, not a lot of stock out, considering what they have got in land package, I think stock looks terrific here..I have owned for couple of years

BEAUFIELD CONSOLIDATION (CVE:BFD): I own this one, has good land package where Virginia ore body sold to Goldcorp..stock had huge run from 20 cents to 85 cents, pulled back sharply to 35 cents, good speculation

PAST PICK SOUTHWESTERN RESOURCES (TSE:SWG): been buying more, conceivably the most misunderstood stock..at least 5 million ounces, generator of mining projects in Peru and China, I think stock at $7.65 is right on the floor..ugly correction for reasons I am quite not sure why

PAST PICK WESDOME GOLD MINES (TSE:WDO): this one has two operating mines, both good mines..will be premium when gold price runs sharply..keeper but right now it is a struggle
