Where is my Train announced the acquisition this week on its homepage: “We created the Where is my Train app with the mission to use technology to improve the lives of millions of Indian train travelers. Over time, we’ve improved the app to make it even more convenient and useful, and we’re thrilled with the response that we’ve gotten from users. The confidence that our users have placed in us is what makes us so excited to think even bigger.
“That’s why we’re excited to share that Sigmoid Labs, the team behind the Where is my Train app, is joining Google. We can think of no better place to help us achieve our mission, and we’re excited to join Google to help bring technology and information into more people’s hands.
Neither Google nor SigmoidLabs shared more details of the deal, for which Google is believed to have paid $30 to $40 million, and is part of its next billion users quest.
Trains and India are huge opportunities, albeit bewildering, to Google, which is turning to emerging markets as growth of new users stagnate in developed ones.
“My guess is they want to incorporate Where is my Train into Google Maps. Probably Google has a gap in understanding India rail and the 1/8 people [one billion Indians out of eight billion people in the world],” said Udi Sharir, CEO and co-founder of Save a Train, an online platform based in Tel Aviv and Amsterdam that sells train tickets to customers, travel agents and corporate travel agencies, currently covering rail travel in European countries.”

Wie es scheint kann man sich auf die Zeitpläne von WAYMO ziemlich gut verlassen. Alphabet ist ja nicht Tesla. Bis Ende 2018 sollte der erste kommerzielle Dienst starten und das tut er nun, während Tesla angeblich seit Jahren die nötige Hardware verbaut hat aber die Software braucht noch etwas (ah ja).

Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Waymo officially launches its commercial self-driving ride-share service and becomes the first in the United States.
The Waymo One program will operate 24 hours a day but will be initially limited to select cities around Phoenix, Arizona, and to a limited number of passengers. The first riders will include those who have participated in the test program, which has been happening in the area since last year.
The company expects Waymo One ride costs to be comparable to Uber (UBER) and Lyft (LYFT).
GM's Cruise unit plans to launch a similar service next year.

Sehr gute Unternehmensergebnisse aus dem dritten Quartal mit einem Umsatzwachstum von 21.5% (Jahresvergleich) und einem 24% über den Erwartungen liegenden Gewinn je Aktie konnten die Stimmung bei den Anlegern von Alphabet nicht nachhaltig aufhellen. Es spitz sich weiter zu! Spannende Analyse, reinschauen lohnt sich!

Is klar. Deswegen wollte Diess auch 10Mrd. € für 10% von WAYMO ausgeben. Wegen "ein bis zwei Jahren Vorsprung".
Manche Analysten sind so komisch ....
