DigitalX’s share price sparks ASX concerns (again)
The Exchange noted the change in DigitalX’s share price from a low of $0.096 to $0.125 on July 17, 2018.
Companies whose activities are related to cryptocurrencies are facing strict monitoring from regulators and financial institutions. The latest example comes from Australia, where a spike in the share price of blockchain-based solutions provider and ICO adviser DigitalX Ltd (ASX
CC) has triggered questions from ASX.
In a Letter to the company, ASX noted the change in DigitalX’s share price from a low of $0.096 to $0.125 on July 17, 2018, as well as the significant increase in the volume of the entity’s securities traded that day. The Exchange asked the company if it was aware of any information concerning it that has not been announced to the market which, if known by some in the market, could explain the recent trading in securities.
In its response filed earlier today, DigitalX said it was not aware of any such information and added that over the past 12 months its share price has pretty much the movements of the cryptocurrency markets.
This is not the first time that DigitalX’s share price swings lead to queries by ASX. For instance, the company had to explain the change in its share price from $0.063 at market close on October 20, 2017 to an intra-day price of $0.099 on October 25, 2017. Back then, the company also said it was not aware of any information that has not been announced to the market which, if known by some in the market, could explain the pattern of trading in its securities.
Although DigitalX claims that there has been positive news lately about cryptocurrency markets, Australian regulators appear to be rather cautious. In April this year, for example, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) indicated a stricter stance on initial coin offerings (ICOs). ASIC Commissioner John Price noted that the regulator is determined to see Australia’s innovative fintech and regtech flourish in the right regulatory environment but he stressed that “ASIC must be focused on both protecting Australian consumers and facilitating innovation across the financial services industry”.
Mr Price warned about the opportunistic mood dominating in ICOs – including businesses or people looking to undertake an ICO because it is seen as an easy, low regulation and low cost option which could lead to immature businesses coming to market. The legal status of an ICO is dependent on the circumstances of the ICO, such as how it is structured and operated as well as the rights attached to the token.
”Regardless of the structure, however, there is one law that will always apply – you can’t make misleading or deceptive statements about the product. This is going to be a key focus for us going forward”, John Price said.

The Australian share market has bounced back from a poor start to the week with a strong gain on Wednesday.
One area of the market which is performing particularly well today is the small cap space. In late morning trade the S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries (Index: ^AXSO) (ASX: XSO) is up an impressive 0.8%.
Three small cap shares that are climbing more than most today are listed below:
The Digitalx Ltd (ASX: DCC) share price has jumped 16% to 14.5 cents, extending its five-day return to over 60%. Investors have been fighting to get hold of the blockchain-based software solutions company’s shares after the crypto market rebounded strongly over the weekend and through to today. DigitalX has a large holding of crypto assets. News that ETF giant BlackRock could be launching a crypto-themed ETF has been one of the main catalysts for the market’s rebound.
The Lithium Australia NL (ASX: LIT) share price has rocketed 25% to 12.5 cents after the lithium company’s wholly-owned specialist battery-component research and development laboratory, VSPC, provided an update on its facilities. According to the release, the pilot production facilities in Brisbane are now fully re-commissioned and lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery cathode material is being produced. Delivery of cathode material samples to international battery makers are expected in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2018. This is promising news and could make it worth a closer look.
The Swick Mining Services Ltd (ASX: SWK) share price has zoomed over 9% higher to 23.5 cents after the mining services company advised that it had a strong end to FY 2018. According to the release, fourth-quarter unaudited drilling business revenue came in at $33.9 million, with EBITDA of $6.2 million. As a result, its unaudited accounts show full year FY 2018 revenue of $137.8 million and EBITDA of $18.8 million. This compares to $130 million and $13.7 million, respectively, in FY 2017.

Leider haben wir bisher lediglich eine marktabhängige kursänderung. Diese kursänerderung sind sehr unvorhersehbar. Es bleibt zu hoffen, dass sich in den kommenden wochen eine unternehmensbezogene entwicklung draufsetzt. Dann hätten wir eine menge spaß. Vorerst bleibt es eine erholung der krytomärkte.
