Acadia Pharma gains as Guggenheim upgrades ahead of the key data readout

ACADIA Pharmaceuticals (ACAD +8.9%) has recorded the biggest intraday gain since March after Guggenheim raised its rating on the biotech to Buy from Neutral.

The analyst Yatin Sunejaa has a favorable view on the company’s upcoming Phase 3 topline data read for its Rett syndrome candidate trofinetide scheduled for Q4 2021.
“Given the limited investor interest in this program, we like the risk-reward heading into the readout,” Sunejaa wrote with the price target of $23 per share of Acadia (NASDAQ:ACAD), implying a premium of ~28.1% to the last close.

In addition to the Phase II study, “one more successful trial will be sufficient to file an NDA in 2022,” the firm noted, citing the company management.
In March 2020, Acadia (ACAD) announced that the FDA granted the Rare Pediatric Disease designation to trofinetide in the treatment of Rett syndrome.

Pimavanserin meets main goal in late-stage dementia-related psychosis study

- Acadia Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ACAD) announces that its late-stage trial testing pimavanserin in patients with dementia-related psychosis ((DRP) met the primary endpoint.
- The study was stopped early due to positive efficacy at the pre-planned interim analysis upon recommendation of the trial’s independent data safety monitoring board.
- The trial met its primary endpoint by "significantly reducing" the risk of relapse of psychosis by 2.8 fold compared to placebo in the double-blind period (hazard ratio (NYSE:HR)=0.35, two-sided p=0.005; one-sided p=0.0023), the company said.
- The data showed that patients with DRP who had responded to pimavanserin had a significantly lower risk of relapse of psychosis with continuation of the drug compared to placebo up to 26 weeks.
- The company also highlighted that pimavanserin was well-tolerated over the nine-month study duration.
- Results were published in The New England Journal of Medicine.
- Acadia shares up nearly 4% post market.
