Emulex LP8000 Fibre Channel Host Adapters Provide Highest Levels of Throughput and Reliability for Bandwidth Hungry Video Editing and Production Applications
COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 2000-- Emulex Corp. (Nasdaq:EMLX - news) the world`s largest supplier of Fibre Channel host adapters, Friday announced that it is partnering with Sagitta Performance Systems, a leading Storage Area Networking (SAN) solutions provider to demonstrate a wide range of video applications at the IBC show (Hall 2, Stand 238) in Amsterdam this week.

The Emulex LP8000 host adapter will be used to provide connectivity to more than 20 servers and workstations in a multi-stand demo dubbed ``SAN City.`` Applications to be showcased in the demo include non-linear editing, DVD authoring, MPEG encoding and decoding, and media asset management.

Emulex LightPulse Host Adapters and Hubs

Emulex has a broad family of Fibre Channel products designed to address the needs of mission-critical enterprise applications. The market-leading LP8000 host adapter delivers world-class performance and unmatched interoperability for loop and switched SANs. This 64-bit PCI-based adapter provides a unique combination of features, including:

full fabric support using F_Port and FL_Port connections
hardware context cache for superior fabric performance
support for multiple protocols (SCSI, IP, SB-2 and VI)

full-duplex data transfers for up to 200MB/s bandwidth
The LP8000 also features data buffering to support up to 100km cabling, support for all fibre channel topologies, and support for multiple service classes (2 and 3). The LP8000 provides customers with flexibility to support a full range of cabling options, including copper, multi-mode fiber or single-mode fiber.

The LP8000 is supported by a rich suite of software, providing support for storage protocol (SCSI), network protocol (IP), as well as multi-protocol (SCSI & IP) operation, enabling advanced SAN and network applications. Emulex provides a wide range of operating system support, including Windows 2000 and Windows NT, Solaris, AIX, Linux and NetWare.

The LH5000 digital hub provides a total of 10 Fibre Channel compliant ports, in one half the width of a standard 1-u high 19`` rack enclosure, the highest density managed hub to date. Placing two units side by side on the optional rack mounting kit, it is possible to provide 20 fibre channel ports with management in a standard 1-u rack slot.

The LH5000 is available in two configurable versions. An 8 port standard GBIC version which provides the ability to field configure or replace physical media through the use of 8 ports on the front panel and two additional copper DB9 connections on the rear panel. And a 10 port copper version which replaces the GBIC ports with standard DB9 connectors. Both versions also supply ethernet and serial management ports on the front panel.

The LP8000 and LH5000 are part of a broad family of Fibre Channel products offered by Emulex to address the needs of both mission-critical enterprise applications and open systems computing.
