Music software company releases Linux product
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2000 12:01 AM
- Reuters
SAN DIEGO, Nov 21 (Reuters) - MusicMatch Inc., a maker of software for storing and playing music on personal
computers, on Tuesday released a test version of its "jukebox" for the start-up Linux operating system.
The move makes privately held MusicMatch the first major company to offer a mainstream jukebox for Linux, a free
operating system that is increasingly touted as an alternative to Microsoft Corp.`s (NASDAQ NM:MSFT) Windows
platform.
"Until now the Linux community has had very few options for experiencing the freedom of digital music," MusicMatch
Chief Executive Dennis Mudd said in a statement.
MusicMatch also makes jukebox software for Windows that competes with Microsoft`s own Windows Media Player
and the RealJukebox from Internet media software pioneer RealNetworks Inc. (NASDAQ NM:RNWK).
And MusicMatch makes a jukebox for Apple Computer Corp.`s
(NASDAQ NM:AAPL) Macintosh operating system that powers machines like
the popular iMac line.
"MusicMatch is committed to delivering the ultimate digital music experience to music fans everywhere," Mudd said.
The MusicMatch Jukebox for Linux 1.0 is a beta, or test, version of the software that the San Diego-based company
created with CodeWeavers, a company that works on making Windows programs run on Linux.
While Linux has gained traction among businesses for tasks like serving up Web pages, it has been slow to break
into the consumer market, partly because of a lack of popular and easy-to-use applications.
Originally developed by Finnish programmer Linus Torvalds, Linux is an "open-source" operating system, meaning
anyone can examine the basic code of the software, make changes to it and post their work on the Internet for free.
"MusicMatch Jukebox for Linux satisfies an intense demand for all-in-one jukebox software for the Linux platform,"
CodeWeavers founder Jeremy White said in a statement.
Linux users were estimated to number between 12-16 million, rivaling the size of the Apple Macintosh community,
MusicMatch spokesman Gary Brotman said.

Zunächst mal ist Linux kein "start-up operating system". Weder start-up noch OS.

Spatializer Audio Laboratories and 4Front Technologies Provide Linux Users With
Improved Internet and MP3 Audio Capabilities
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2000 8:02 AM
- PRNewswire
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov 14, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Spatializer Audio Laboratories, Inc. (OTC Bulletin
Board: SPAZ), a leading supplier of digital and analog audio solutions, and 4Front Technologies, a leader in digital
audio solutions for Linux and UNIX platforms, announced today the successful launch of StreamFX(TM) for Linux, a
software plug-in for XMMS. XMMS is a cross platform MP3 and Multimedia player that has become the most popular
audio application on Linux and now comes bundled with all popular Linux distributions, such as Corel Linux, SuSE,
Mandrake, and Red Hat Linux. XMMS is also available for other UNIX operating systems like FreeBSD, Solaris, AIX,
and HPUX.
"We are excited to have teamed up with 4Front Technologies to bring StreamFX to the growing universe of Linux
users," stated Henry R. Mandell, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Spatializer Audio Laboratories.
"The availability of StreamFX on the Linux platform, tied to XMMS, the de facto MP3 and Multimedia player for the
Linux environment, provides a very compelling audio package for the growing Internet Appliance market. We can now
aggressively market a turn-key enhanced audio solution for these devices, many of which rely on the Linux OS. This
also gives us another product to offer in e-commerce, which we will be focusing more attention on and refining our
approach to in 2001."
StreamFX is one of the "Must-Have" plug-ins for XMMS, making it easier than ever for Linux users to enjoy a
dramatically enhanced audio experience over the Internet. StreamFX provides rich 3D audio, enhanced bass support
and support for headphone/speaker audio adjustment, adding rich, immersive audio to the already powerful XMMS
player. StreamFX is available immediately and can be purchased directly from www.opensound.com and in the future
from www.Spatializer.com for the special price of $10.00.

Hallo n.j.
". Weder start-up noch OS
