A new solution set for the digital content market was launched by Portal, Inktomi, Redback and Sun Microsystems enabling a plug-and-play method to deploy new digital content services. Portal and Network Appliance announced an agreement to enable content management, distribution, and billing for emerging content delivery networks (CDNs). In addition, Portal announced that i2 will incorporate Infranet into its TradeMatrix e-business platform for B2B marketplaces.

Portal also continued the ongoing expansion of key partnerships and solution sets in the wireless market during the quarter announcing the selection of Infranet for the Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server, a solution set that enables wireless service providers to offer customers mobile access to Windows-based applications and the Internet. Portal’s role in the Oracle 9i Application Server Wireless Edition solution set was also announced, with the Oracle Wireless Partner Initiative.

Portal will discuss its third quarter fiscal 2001 results and other financial and business information in a conference call on November 21, 2000, beginning at 2:00pm PST. A webcast of the conference call will be available to all interested parties at www.vcall.com.

      1. + 2. Downgrade: Goldman Sachs + Prudential Securities:
Portal Software Nose-Dives 62.4% on Outlook(?????!!!!!)
      By TSC Staff

      11/22/00 11:08 AM ET

Portal Software (PRSF:NYSE - news) was down 62.4% in midmorning. Late Tuesday the company reported third-quarter earnings of 4 cents a share, 2 cents better than the Street`s estimate and up from a year-ago loss of 1 cent.

But Goldman Sachs downgraded it to market perform from recommended, citing the company`s comments about slower growth due to the tightening capital markets. Goldman said it expects Portal`s North American sales to be `sluggish` in the next couple of quarters. Prudential Securities downgraded it to accumulate from strong buy and slashed its target to $20 from $75.

      3. + 4. Downgrade:

      23.11. 00:42
      Portal Software - fällt 64%
      ------------------------------- ------------------------------- --------------------

Taiwan`s eASPNet Chooses Portal Software to Support Fast Rollout of ASP and Internet Data Center Services
CUPERTINO, Calif., Jan 9, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Portal Software, Inc. (NSDQ:PRSF), a leading provider of business infrastructure software for broadband, wireless Internet, and next-generation communications services, has been awarded a contract from eASPNet, Taiwan`s leading ASP and Internet Data Center (IDC) service provider.

Formed by a consortium of blue chip Taiwanese and Asian companies, eASPNet plans to offer enterprise customers - initially in Taiwan and eventually across Asia - a full range of e-business and ASP services. At approximately 105,000 square feet, eASPNet`s IDC will be one of the largest carrier-grade IDCs in Asia. The company chose Infranet to support the rapid rollout of new services.

`IDCs and ASPs are becoming increasingly important in Asia as more companies outsource their Web-based and enterprise IT infrastructure and applications,` said Eddy Lee, CTO of eASPNet. `It is important to provide flexible billing solutions to support things like special service bundles and tariffs. Portal`s Infranet(R) will help us to react quickly to the changing billing needs of our IDC and ASP customers.`

IDCs accommodate the high traffic and bandwidth needs of today`s advanced Internet applications. The billing environment is complex since the IDC model supports a wide variety of different criteria by which providers can bill their customers. For example, traffic pricing options might be based on bandwidth usage or the amount of data transferred.

`ASPs and IDCs are playing a key role in fuelling Taiwan`s Internet economy,` said Robert Lau, vice president of Portal Software, Asia Pacific. `We are delighted to be part of this growth and to be supporting eASPNet`s advanced IDC and ASP services with Infranet. Our platform will provide an infrastructure to support the rapid rollout of new services, helping eASPNet to accelerate its time-to-market.`

Infranet is the industry`s leading carrier-class, comprehensive customer management and billing software for next-generation communications services. Highly scalable, Infranet enables service providers to capitalize on the exploding Internet and next-generation business market by managing customers, supporting new and evolving services, and collecting money - all in real-time.

AP Engines and Portal Software Enter Alliance to Support Advanced Broadband Services
Companies provide subscribers provisioning, tiered billing for advanced broadband services and Open-Access capabilities for competing ISPs

MAYNARD, Mass., Jan 16, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- AP Engines, a leading provider of integrated service creation and usage mediation software solutions, today announced an alliance with Portal Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRSF chart, msgs), a leading provider of business infrastructure software for broadband, wireless Internet, and next-generation communications services. The alliance will expand service provider revenue and profit potential through seamless interoperability of new network elements and disparate OSS elements.

`AP Engines and Portal Software have teamed to provide operators with a unique solution to provision and bill for advanced communication services which extends the capabilities of legacy cable billing systems,` said Tim Hall, director of strategic alliances at Portal Software. `Our integrated solution with AP Engines enables operators to manage next-generation, high- margin services such as high-speed data, voice, and video, without disrupting the existing billing and support system infrastructure used for traditional analog TV services.

The agreement calls for AP Engines to integrate its AP InterLink(TM) software suite with Portal`s customer management and billing software, Infranet(R) a real-time flexible solution for the management of Internet and emerging next generation communication services. The combined technologies will allow providers to remotely activate broadband services through seamless provisioning of disparate network elements and services. As a result, providers can lower operating costs, widen revenue streams by activating more subscribers faster, develop innovative value-based pricing strategies, and accurately bill for new services through their existing back-office infrastructure.

Additionally, this solution enables cable operators to provide open access to multiple ISPs, with AP InterLink providing the necessary data transport mechanisms and database interfaces to Portal`s Infranet software, which allows shared subscriber account information among many systems, including traditional cable billing systems. The integrated technology allows MSOs to develop sophisticated billing strategies for service packages targeted at well-defined customer segments. These packages can be designed to win new customers, move network traffic to desired time slots, and right-price services to optimize revenue generation.

`It is critical for our customers to have integrated solutions for provisioning and billing of new services,` said Jon Sieg, president and CEO, AP Engines. `As such, our alliance with Portal helps service providers not only deliver and bill for advanced broadband services, but it also addresses the need for cable companies to seamlessly provide open access for their subscribers.`

RESEARCH ALERT-Merrill cuts Portal Software EPS
NEW YORK, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch said it reduced its fiscal 2002 earnings estimate on Friday for Portal Software Inc. (NASDAQ:PRSF), which this week inked a deal to provide business managment and billing software to media giant AOL Time Warner Inc. (NYSE:AOL).

In a research note, Merrill said because of worsening macro-economic conditions, it cut Portal`s estimate for fiscal 2002 from 24 cents per share to 15 cents. The average consensus among analysts polled by First Call/Thomson Financial is for earnings in fiscal 2002 of 20 cents per share.

"We now believe that the company had already factored the recent AOL deal into their FY02 subscriber growth projections, since the contract was probably agreed upon before November (Q3 results)," the note said.

"The macro-economic conditions continue to worsen, especially in the emerging service provider segment."

Merrill said it was maintaining an intermediate-term accumulate rating and expected Portal`s fourth-quarter results on Feb 21 to meet Wall Street expectations of $78-$82 million in revenues and net earnings of 3 cents per share.

Portal shares dropped $1-11/16 to $9-3/16 in active early trading.

Portal Software Cut to `Neutral` at Morgan Stanley DW

      Source:Bloomberg News

Princeton, New Jersey, Feb. 13 (Bloomberg Data) -- Portal Software (PRSF US) was downgraded to ``neutral`` from ``outperform`` by analyst Yumi Koh at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter.

      Umsätze Portal:
      Umsätze(Februar-Januar):

      1999: 75,112
      2000: 226,0
      2001(e): 400,0

      GSM2001, Cannes, Feb 19, 2001 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Portal Software,
Inc. (Nasdaq: PRSF) today announced that Vodafone UK, part of the world`s
largest mobile telecommunications company, Vodafone Group plc, has selected
Portal`s software platform, Infranet, to support GPRS and next-generation
      services.

Infranet, will initially be implemented with Vodafone UK Limited, creating a
multi-service next-generation software platform allowing Vodafone UK to deliver
      value added services this quarter.

Malcolm Mitchell, IT Director at Vodafone UK comments: "In order to meet the
business needs of the wireless Internet age and of a global telecommunications
market, we selected Portal`s Infranet, for its flexible and proven capabilities
for billing next generation communications services.

Portal`s software platform allows us to introduce innovative pricing models for
a range of value-added services over existing and emerging technologies." "GPRS
wireless technology enables an incredible range of new services and has
triggered the need for managing and billing for increasingly complex business
models," says Steve Sommer, vice president of Marketing and Business
Development, Portal Software. "Portal`s Infranet, enables operators like
Vodafone UK to rapidly launch GPRS services and prepare for 3G, premium content
      and other new markets."

Portal was selected because of its quick time-to-market capabilities and proven
scalability. Infranet`s ability to identify, offer, provision and bill for
next-generation communications services in real-time, plus ease of integration
into Vodafone`s overall solution architecture, reinforced Vodafone`s decision in
      selecting Portal`s Infranet.

Subscription-based Digital Satellite Radio Transactions to Be Processed Via ClearCommerce Engine and Portal Infranet
AUSTIN, Texas, RICHMOND, Va. and CUPERTINO, Calif., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ - - ClearCommerce Corporation, a provider of transaction management and fraud prevention software for e-commerce, today announced Infintium Technologies has purchased the ClearCommerce® Engine to process transactions for Sirius Satellite Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI - news), the satellite radio broadcaster and Infintium customer. Infintium is a Richmond, Virginia-based application service provider specializing in telecommunications industry solutions. The ClearCommerce Engine, which provides real-time credit authorization, payment and fraud detection, will process transactions for subscribers of Sirius` up to 100-channel audio entertainment service. The payment engine will work in tandem with the Infranet® customer management and billing platform developed by Portal Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRSF - news).

From its three orbiting satellites, Sirius will directly broadcast up to 100 channels of digital-quality radio to motorists throughout the continental United States for a monthly subscription fee of $9.95. Sirius will deliver 50 channels of commercial-free music in virtually every genre, and up to 50 channels of news, sports, talk, comedy and children`s programming. Sirius` broad and deep range of almost every music format as well as its news, sports and entertainment programming is not available on conventional radio in any market in the United States.

``Satellite radio is an entirely new category with unique requirements, and requires a new approach to managing subscriber infrastructure,`` said Richard Jensen, vice president and chief information officer of Sirius. ``It is critical to have the right combination of flexibility and technology as well as the ability to focus on customer care. ClearCommerce, Infintium and Portal Software are harnessing a suite of cutting-edge technologies to create an innovative system to meet our needs.``

``As telecommunications companies begin offering e-commerce services, they need to ensure that transactions are secure and simple for customers,`` said Michael Neary, vice president of Infintium. ``For that reason, we are now recommending the ClearCommerce Engine to our clients, just as Portal Software recommended it to us.``

Portal Software`s Infranet platform supports the creation and management of online customer accounts. By managing customer relationship and billing services in real time, Infranet allows providers to bring new services to market quickly while increasing profitability and improving customer satisfaction. ``Our work for Sirius demonstrates the value of bringing together best of breed applications. With Portal Software, Infintium and ClearCommerce working together, Sirius is being supported without extensive software customization and long deployment cycles,`` said Steve Sommer, vice president business development and marketing at Portal.

      PRSF Earnings 2-21-01 (re-post part 1)
by: sfgoodfella 02/20/01 12:46 am EST
      Msg: 15264 of 15272

PRSF will beat the consensus EPS (pt1)
      by: sfgoodfella
      02/09/01 03:20 am EST
      Msg: 13893 of 13895

In C3Q, PRSF reported in-line revenue and $0.04 (vs. $0.02 consensus estimate). In
4Q, the consensus estimate is $0.03. Revenue estimates vary somewhat between $77
mm and $82 mm for 4Q. The lower revenue forecasts reflect the revisions by analysts
who cited CLEC and funding risks. As I noted previously, the downward revisions are
based on flawed and illogical analysis and should be ignored. PRSF will achieve
pre-revision revenue estimates and beat bottom line in producing earnings of $0.04 to
$0.06. Forward to 2001, PRSF will achieve pre-revision EPS of $0.23 and revenue of
      $439 mm.

The basis for the conclusions above lies in the mounting external evidence pointing
continued business momentum by PRSF. The evidence is based on the following:

      (1) Characteristic of PRSF markets
      (2) Strength in lead revenue metrics for PRSF drive scale
      (3) Recent PRSF contracts
      (4) New revenue opportunities for PRSF.

      PRSF MARKETS
MSLV announced their quarterly earnings yesterday and their experience provides an
excellent glimpse into what we can expect from PRSF on Feb 21 (5 pm EST
      800-811-8824).

MSLV provides software for telecom / IP networks. The company does order
processing, inventory mgmt, and troubleshooting. MSLV has overlapping clients with
PRSF such as Qwest. They represent an excellent proxy for PRSF.

MSLV reported inline earnings and EPS above expectations (similar results as PRSF
achieved in 3Q). Domestic sales for MSLV were somewhat weak in the quarter (same
for PRSF in 3Q) but strength in international revenue offset domestic weakness (same for
PRSF in 3Q). MSLV`s weakness was in part attributable to CLEC exposure comprising
(10%-15%) of revenues (PRSF exposure is only 3%). MSLV`s international growth was
concentrated in Latin America (just as PRSF had announced its deal with Convergence
across 9 Latin American countries - announced Jan 31).

In contrast to MSLV, PRSF has lower domestic risk exposure and stronger and more
diversified international momentum. We can expect similar to better results from PRSF as
Portal faces a very similar customer market that MSLV did in 4Q.

      LEAD METRICS
Lead metrics for ISP continue to point to a strong 4Q for PRSF and an even strong
2001. The PRSF revenue model is a per user model (minimum $1 per user and $3-$10
per user for additional services). Growth in the underlying networks of PRSF clients
drive PRSF revenue growth. As I noted previously, PRSF`s contract with AOL looks
great now but will grow quickly and contribute even more revenue. According to RS,
PRSF won the right to all of AOL`s IP business. According to DRW, PRSF will replace
all of AOL`s existing IP billing. AOL`s network is growing at an accelerating basis. Last
year, AOL grew users from 20 m to 26 mm, of which 1 mm (17%) were added in
December. Juno.com grew billable customers in 4Q by 815% (from 92,000 to
842,000). This should yield revenue growth from this customer of 9x (Y/Y). Shanghai
online contract booked in January, based on user growth should be 167% higher. Juno
and AOL growth should contribute to significant ISP revenue growth in 2001.

Free subscription ISP models are dying which should drive more customers to IP billed
services. Alta Vista and 1stUp.com are shutting down free operations as of 2000 y/e.
K-mart (bluelight.com) (2.4 mm active users / 5 mm registrants) will begin billing for
hours over free time. Netzero will be applying a similar strategy (3.3 mm active users / 7
mm registrants) of charging for time over free period.

TR Online Census reported that the greatest area of subscriber growth in 2000 was DSL
users - comprising 86% of total growth. This stat materially mitigates the CLEC risk issue
as most of PRSF`s CLEC "risk" was tied up in DSL providers. Obviously, growth
concentration in DSL should offset analyst described "risks". The remaining growth
sources - FYI - were dial up (9%), Internet TV (5%) and free ISPs (1%).

Lead metrics show strong growth for `01 and just another factor showing that the risks
sourced as a basis for reducing estimates by analysts were unfounded. REVISED
      ESTIMATES ARE INCORRECT.

CONTRACTS - NEW AND BIGGER EXISTING
-AOL will prove to be PRSF`s biggest contract and will show strong and accelerating
growth. AOL will represent over 10% of revenue.
-Shanghai Online contract should be 167% higher due to growth in user base.
-Convergence (9 Latin American countries) contract improves PRSF global foot print
beyond core Europe, Asia and North America.
-OEM agreement with Seagate software accesses 3 million users.
-Contract sizes with existing contracts grow each year as new users are added. New
      contracts add even further growth.
-Sol42 is adding to the revenue mix with new customer acquisitions in the 2.5G and 3G
      networks.

      NEW REVENUE OPS
PRSF continues to add to the revenue mix through new technology deployments. Most
importantly, during the quarter, PRSF added OPWV (wireless enablement technology)
and IpVerse (back-end compatibility to other platforms such as legacy telecomm). We
have already seen rapid acceleration in traffic across OPWV that will drive PRSF
revenue along the per user model I showed before. IpVerse (just announced) will drive
larger volumes of traffic across multi-platforms.

I believe that PRSF will begin to realize revenue synergies through cross-customer
relationships. AOL has partnered with Nokia and NTT in separate deals. All 3 are
PRSF customers. The result should see accelerated traffic growth and new revenue ops
in markets where wireless services are iterations ahead of North American markets.

      CONCLUSION
PRSF has consistently met revenue expectations and beat earnings estimates. Recent
revisions in estimates were made by only a handful of analysts (I will rate THEM in a
later post) who cited CLEC revenue and ISP funding issues. The CLEC risk only
represented 3% of revenue and was diversified away because lost customers from one
CLEC move to another PRSF CLEC client so there is no lost revenue (per PRSF IR
post). Also, TR Online Census shows that DSL (CLEC) subscriber growth is by far the
dominant ISP growth source in 2000, so that completely erases the CLEC Risk. ISP
funding risks have been eliminated by AOL contract size and accelerating growth in AOL
users that will drive revenue growth even further. The free ISP model is disappearing and
free ISP providers have announced they will start to bill that will present additional
revenue source for PRSF. Juno, a former free ISP, and PRSF client has increased
subscriber base by 815% in 4Q that will drive PRSF revenue by 9x in 2001. Strength in
ISP subscribers and changes in the ISP revenue model both favor PRSF thus eliminating
the other risk cited by analysts. ALL THE RISKS THE ANALYSTS CITED AS THE
BASIS FOR LOWERING ESTIMATES HAVE BEEN ERASED. THE ESTIMATE
REVISIONS WERE WRONG. A select few analysts that have provided consistently
more detailed coverage never lowered their estimates and maintained their higher price
targets. They have proven to be correct. They are MSDW, CSFB and CIBC.

PRSF has numerous growth catalysts in its favor beyond ISP. SOL 42 is beginning to
gain revenue traction in 2.5G and 3G market that provides additional growth revenue and
eventual synergies. OPWV is helping to cement PRSF`s technology in the WAP enabled
environment and its underlying traffic is showing strong growth (513% in 4Q) that will
drive PRSF revenue growth accordingly. PRSF`s IpVerse partnership provides
back-end connectivity to legacy platforms providing easier access to a larger number of
clients to PRSF`s Infranet technology. This will accelerate Infranet adoption rates through
2001 and likely lead to more contract wins. More importantly, it allows PRSF to
continue to focus on its core competency, high marginal value, technology leading billing,
      on NGN platforms.

The pre-revision estimates remain the economically substantive correct ones calling for
      $0.11 for Cal2000 and $0.23 for Cal2001 and $0.50 for Cal2002. PRSF continues to
trade at a 60% to 70% discount to its intrinsic value and represents an excellent
investment opportunity. On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being the highest and 5 the lowest) PRSF
ranks a 1 based on strong fundamentals, opportunity for scale, growth catalysts and a
      material price to ...?

Neues zukunftsweisendes Produkt "The Infranet Wireless product line" ist ab sofort lieferbar.

PORTAL SOFTWARE: Portal Software launches convergent wireless product line
for next-generation mobile operators With new products and advanced features
from the Infranet 6.1 platform, Infranet Wireless enables wireless network and
content service providers to support 2.5G and 3G services

Cannes, Frances, Feb 20, 2001 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Portal Software,
today announced the initial release of its Infranet Wireless product line for
customer management and billing of 2.5G and 3G wireless services. The Infranet
Wireless product line includes the new release of Portal`s leading customer
management and billing software, the Infranet 6.1 platform, which now offers
optional modules to support GPRS, WAP, and SMS services. The Infranet Wireless
product line also encompasses new wireless voice rating, interconnect and
settlement, and business intelligence products. With Infranet Wireless, mobile
service providers can rapidly develop business models and price plans for a
multitude of wireless voice and data services for delivery to a variety of
      devices.

The Infranet Wireless product line allows service providers to quickly provide
convergent bills for services over mobile phones or multiple devices; price new
services based on value, usage or quality of service; support pre-paid and
post-paid price plans; deploy complex revenue-sharing agreements with value
chain partners (settlement); develop interactive pricing models that incorporate
real-time advice-of-charge; and develop branding programs.

"The complexity of emerging 2.5G and 3G technologies, combined with steep
license costs and intense competition, makes it critical for convergent service
providers to quickly develop business models that go far beyond flat-rate,
homogeneous pricing plans," said Bob Vieraitis, vice president of product
marketing for Portal Software. "The Infranet Wireless product line enables
service providers to roll out innovative business models for wireless voice,
data, and content services in immediate response to market conditions and
      emerging technologies."

"The opportunities for the delivery of wireless voice and data services over
multiple devices are increasing rapidly," says Iain Gillott, principal and
founder of iGillottResearch. "But these opportunities also present new
challenges, such as the need for service providers to develop and support new
services and price plans fast enough to keep up with evolving technology, market
developments, and intense competition. To succeed in today`s uncertain business
environment, services providers` next generation networks and devices must be
supported by next generation business platforms."

The Infranet Wireless product line includes the Infranet 6.1 platform, which is
built on a highly flexible open architecture with robust application programming
interfaces (APIs) and real-time capabilities. Infranet 6.1 has new optional
modules to support wireless voice, data, and content services:

      * Infranet GPRS Manager provides real-time, flexible functionality for services
based on bytes used quality of service, access point name (APN), and airtime. It
also provides the options to authorise and authenticate subscribers based on APN
      and/or customer balance.

      * Infranet WAP Manager provides a generic authentication, authorisation, and
accounting (AAA) interface to WAP gateways. Its real-time, flexible
functionality enables tracking, billing, and settlement for WAP services based
on bytes used, URL visited, or airtime.

      * Infranet SMS Manager allows service providers to capitalise on the dramatic
growth in SMS and value-added services based on SMS by providing real-time
rating and billing capabilities for these services.

The Infranet Wireless line also includes robust new products with wireless
capabilities that can be used alone or in conjunction with the Infranet
      platform:

      * Infranet IntegRate is a high-performance rating engine that provides call

Portal Software Signs Deals With France Telecom, Vodafone
      By Aileen Gallagher

Portal Software (PRSF:Nasdaq - news) announced new deals Tuesday to provide its customer management and billing platform to France Telecom (FTE:NYSE ADR - news) and Britain`s Vodafone (VOD:NYSE ADR - news).

The company, which will announce its fourth-quarter and year-end earnings Wednesday, did not disclose terms for either arrangement. Portal said it will offer guidance based on the new deals in its earnings report.

The agreement with France Telecom, the second-largest telecom provider in Europe, is for five years. The pact is a consolidation of a previous deal with Wanadoo, a France Telecom subsidiary.

Vodafone chose Portal via a competitive bid. A research note from Credit Suisse First Boston said Portal won the contract because Vodafone could use the platform without customization. The deal applies only to Vodafone`s UK operations, but the platform can be rolled into other properties.

In January, Portal licensed its platform to AOL Time Warner (AOL:NYSE - news).

Portal gained 75 cents, or 8.2%, to $9.94, in Tuesday Nasdaq trading.
