Reefton to Rival AdultShop.com`s Online Adult Products Business
By Karen Peebles
Reefton to Rival AdultShop.com`s Online Adult Products Business
Perth, Western Australia, Jan. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Reefton
Mining NL has become the second Australian minerals explorer to
join the A$300 million (US$198 million) a year Australian sex
industry with an investment in Ontel Communications Pty.
Perth-based Reefton said it took a 40 percent stake in Ontel,
following the footsteps of AdultShop.com Ltd., formerly Western
Minerals NL. The companies have moved away from the hunt for
minerals and into selling adult literature and sex toys on line as
well as providing adult phone calls and introduction services.
Mining exploration companies ``are moving into anything from
this (adult products) to selling alcohol on-line and other
technology businesses -- it seems to be the way to go,`` said
Peter Rudd, resources analyst at D&D Tollhurst. ``These are often
just shells of companies that haven`t been able to raise money for
exploration so they go into whatever they can to improve
business.``
The move away from the mining exploration industry is
becoming more common in Australia with 21 companies shifting into
other businesses, mostly Internet related, since January 1999.
Companies make the shift looking for a way to build their
share price and to move to industries with better growth
potential. Those that hook up with the former explorers have a
ready-made vehicle to access capital through new share issues and
avoid the time-consuming and costly process of an initial public
offering, said Rudd.
The move to adult products has been a good one for Reefton
and AdultShop.com companies` shares. Reefton stock surged as much
as 25 percent, or 6 cents a share, to 30 cents, though it pared
most of that gains today, losing 4 cents or 13 percent.
AdultShop.com shares have jumped from 1.6 Australian cents,
one month before the company`s board decided to change businesses
last March, to A$1.30 today. It went as high as A$1.72 on Dec. 29.
Exploration Continues
Reefton`s Managing Director Roger Nikolaenko said though that
his company will hold onto its mining activities and intends to
continue exploring in Namibia for diamonds and base metals. He
said the company made the transition so it could be part of a
growing industry.
``It appears to be a growing trend for junior explorers to
shift out of the industry and join the dot com, e-commerce and IT
businesses,`` said Nikolaenko.
Still, AdultShop.com says there`s no money in mining and it`s
looking to dump its one remaining minerals exploration license in
Ghana and the diamond exploration joint venture it has in Western
Australia`s Kimberley region with Diamond Rose NL and privately-
held Moonstone Diamond Corp.
``There are hundreds of other junior explorers out there
chasing quality (mining) properties and with the limited number of
good properties around, our options were limited, so then we
started looking at the IT and teleco sector,`` said Susmit Shah,
company secretary of Adultshop.com.
AdultShop.com was the first Australian minerals explorer to
switch into the sex industry starting negotiations with the owners
of the Barbarella`s adult sex products retail chain in Western
Australia state in February 1999. In March, Western Minerals
absorbed the chain and in June shareholders agreed to change the
company`s name to AdultShop.com.
Barbarellas sells products through stores in Western
Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania and via the Internet, as well
as operating as adult telephone service.
Internet Service
Reefton`s new interest, Ontel, gets its principle revenue
from an Internet and telephone introduction service. It also
provides adult entertainment through 1,900 telephone services and
retails adult products both via the Internet and through mail
order.
A more common move though is into Internet and technology
businesses. One of the best-known transitions from minerals
explorer to technology company last year was Davnet Ltd. Formerly
Golden Hills Mining NL which has risen 500 percent from a low of
32.5 Australian cents per share on July 27 to A$1.93 today.
Others last year included Merritt Mining NL which became
Impress Technologies Ltd., Golden Tiger Resources NL became Isp
NL; Cardia Mining NL became Cardia Technologies Ltd.; Goldminco NL
became Datafast Telecommunications NL; and Walhalla Mining Company
NL became Kidz.Net Ltd.
Mogul Mining NL became Wine Planet Holdings and moved into
wine retailing on the Internet in September.
Was da wohl noch so alles kommt?

Hallo Ich, kannst Du mir sagen wo die ganzen AdultShop Threads hin verschwunden sind?

Hi Christoph!
So long und

hallo Christoph,
