hier ein wenig werbung fuer ein unternehmen, das mir schon eine ganze weile gut gefaellt:

TVI Pacific (TSX: TVI.TO, WKN 890404)

TVI Pacific Inc. Receives Formal Business License for Landmark Wholly Foreign-Owned Enterprise (WFOE)
Tuesday January 6, 8:46 am ET

      CALGARY, ALBERTA--

      - Historical Significance of First WFOE Issuance Marked by Major Ceremony in Beijing

      - Drilling to Commence as Soon as First of Three Drills Reaches Shuikoushan Property

      - Company Has Hired Experienced Nevada Geologist, Kevin Russell, to Manage Shuikoushan Gold Project

      - Imminent Expansion of Project Portfolio in China

TVI Pacific Inc. is pleased to announce that it has received its business license from the Central Government of the People`s Republic of China for its Wholly Foreign-Owned Enterprise ("WFOE"). TVI`s wholly-owned subsidiary, Hunan Pacific Geological Exploration Inc. ("Hunan Pacific"), is the first WFOE licensed by the Central Government for conducting mineral exploration in China, providing unprecedented security for the Company`s land tenure and future ability to explore and expand its operations within the Shuikoushan district. In addition the legal framework of the WFOE also allows TVI to acquire, own, and explore projects nationally, providing the Company with the unparalleled ability as a foreign company to apply western-style exploration strategies in its search for "world-class" gold deposits throughout China.

Historical Significance of First WFOE Issuance Marked by Major Ceremony in Beijing

To celebrate this milestone achievement for both TVI and the Government of China, all of the parties that were involved in establishing and approving this first WFOE recently gathered in Beijing for a formal ceremony. In attendance were senior representatives from TVI Pacific, the Ministry of Land and Resources (MOLAR), the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), the National Registration Bureau and three government levels from Hunan Province, including provincial government representatives. TVI was lauded for possessing the patience and perseverance needed to initiate and successfully complete such a unique and precedent-setting form of business registration at the national level.

Special remarks were made by the various government departments to highlight the extraordinary degree of interdepartmental cooperation that was required to both approve TVI`s Lease With Option to Purchase agreements, and also to modify long-standing foreign investment rules in order to accommodate a form of business registration that would fully protect TVI`s rights and interests for the Shuikoushan Gold Project and elsewhere in China.

Drilling to Commence as Soon as First of Three Drills Reaches Shuikoushan Property

With its business license in hand, TVI has initiated the next exploration stage at Shuikoushan. As previously reported, this program will include the drill testing of the Xianrenyan Gold Deposit area, and reconnaissance drill testing of a number of new targets identified by TVI in its 2003 mapping and sampling program. Initially, 6,600m of core drilling, together with geophysical and geochemical surveys, will be carried out to better define and expand the resource of 1.5 million ounces of gold at an average grade of 3.86 g/t reported by the owners, with a target estimate of 2.7 million ounces gold exceeding 2.5 g/t. One of the Company`s CS-1000 diamond drills, currently in China, is in transit by road to Shuikoushan, and the Company is importing an additional two drills for the project from the Philippines. Drilling will commence as soon as the first drill is rigged up at Shuikoushan.

Company Has Hired Experienced Nevada Geologist, Kevin Russell, to Manage Shuikoushan Gold Project

The Company recently hired Mr. Kevin Russell, an experienced Nevada geologist with extensive experience in Carlin-type gold deposits, to manage the Shuikoushan Gold Project. Mr. Russell is now in China preparing for the drilling program. The exploration program will be supervised by Mr. Cal Herron, an experienced geologist, who has demonstrated expertise and success in the search for precious metal deposits in the U.S. and China. Specialist support will be provided by Mr. Brian McEwan, P.Geol. of Norwest Corporation, a qualified person under National Instrument (NI) 43-101.

Imminent Expansion of TVI`s Project Portfolio in China

TVI Pacific`s project acquisition team is in the final stages of negotiating a number of large gold and gold-copper projects located in different areas of China. All of these prospective properties are district-scale projects that occur in geological environments favorable for hosting large deposits. Some, like Shuikoushan, encompass drill-defined resources and on-going mining operations. TVI plans to acquire these projects through its newly-licensed WFOE, which will significantly shorten the approval process for each project. Information concerning these new projects will be released when agreements are concluded.

"Since its entry into China, TVI has been fully committed to ensuring the security of its land tenure, necessitating government approval at the national level in Beijing," commented Clifford James, President and CEO of TVI Pacific. "While this made for a lengthy and often frustrating approval process, we knew this was the only way to fully protect TVI`s investment at Shuikoushan and any other projects that the Company acquires. Statements recently made by Ministry of Commerce officials in Beijing highlight the importance of national-level registration for all foreign-invested exploration projects, thereby validating the time and effort taken to achieve this status. The Company is extremely excited by the many advantages afforded by our new WFOE license, and our ability to operate as a locally-registered company, which provides a degree of business and operational flexibility that is unprecedented in mineral exploration and development in China.

"The operations team for the Shuikoushan Gold Project is now on the ground in Hunan Province awaiting the imminent arrival of the first of three Company-owned diamond drills, so we anticipate a near term startup of the drilling program. In addition to the Shuikoushan Gold Project, TVI`s project acquisition team will soon be adding a number of large gold projects to our China portfolio, thereby significantly increasing the Company`s stake in China, particularly in areas better known for large, district-scale, gold deposits. With our WFOE now licensed and in place, TVI will be in an excellent position to rapidly advance these new projects."

The statements herein that are not historical facts are forward-looking statements. These statements address future events and conditions and so involve inherent risks and uncertainties. Actual results could differ from those currently projected.

Lafayette picks up plant for Rapu Rapu
      Brad Ricks

      Wednesday, January 07, 2004

MELBOURNE-based Lafayette Mining has purchased two used grinding mills for its Rapu Rapu gold and base metals project in the Philippines for US$1 million.

The two near-new mills will be used for the SAG and ball installations at Rapu Rapu, and will be delivered to the site from their current location at the former Battle Mountain mining operation in New Mexico.

Lafayette said the mills have undergone rigorous inspection and testing so it entered into an agreement to purchase them from the company responsible for the rehabilitation of the Battle Mountain site.

Lafayette managing director Andrew McIlwain said the opportunity to purchase suitable used equipment is consistent with the company`s development plan for Rapu Rapu.

"Securing these mills will deliver significant capital cost savings," he said.

"It also aids the commissioning schedule and with these mills we receive a suite of spare parts to assist with ongoing maintenance".

McIlwain also said the company`s detailed design and procurement process has delivered additional capital savings from equipment rationalisation and final supply negotiations.

"Construction of the accommodation, offices, workshops and warehousing is nearing completion in preparation for main plant construction commencing in February," he said.

McIlwain said Lafayette`s bank credit application for around $30 million continues to progress smoothly, with the bank consortium led by NM Rothschild and Sons at an advanced stage of their credit process.

Lafayette hopes to commence mining at Rapu Rapu later this year with annual production of about 10,000 tonnes of copper in concentrates, 14,000t of zinc in concentrates, 50,000 ounces of gold and 600,000oz of silver.

Shares in Lafayette were trading unchanged this morning on the Australian Stock Exchange at 13.5 cents

Canadian players lead China gold rush

      TVI Pacific Inc.,
a small Calgary-based company, scored a major coup in December when it became the first foreign firm to win permission to set up a wholly owned company in the Chinese mining sector. Taking advantage of the latest reforms, TVI Pacific was able to avoid the pitfalls of the traditional joint-venture route, which had left the foreign investor at the mercy of its local partner.

With its new business licence in hand, TVI Pacific is planning to invest about $10-million in gold exploration in China this year. It is already in the midst of sending three drilling rigs to an exploration site in Hunan province, and it is in the final stages of negotiating deals for several more exploration projects.

"This could rapidly escalate," said Clifford James, chief executive officer of TVI Pacific, who predicts that the Chinese reforms will "trigger a major boom" in the gold sector.

After a year of navigating the bureaucratic shoals, the Calgary company is now the owner of "licence No. 1" in the mining sector under the new system of wholly owned foreign enterprises. In the past, the traditional joint-venture system meant that a local partner with a 10- or 20-per-cent stake had the power to block the development of a lucrative mining project until its foreign partner was forced to abandon control. The new system is considered more secure for the foreign investor.

"It`s a huge step forward," Mr. James said. "It`s a landmark in liberalization. Now we can go anywhere in China and pick up exploration projects without a Chinese partner. It gives us a huge amount of flexibility.

" We can take on anything we want, and the risks are significantly reduced."

Wang Jun, a senior official in the Chinese ministry of land and resources, said the number of gold exploration projects in China has increased rapidly in the past year. "I can feel that the confidence of the investors is increasing," he said. "We`re encouraging them to come. There`s an increase in the level of interest."
