Fand ich interessant für Leute, die in dem THema drin oder die halt investiert sind:

CONFIRMATION DRILLING UNDERWAY AT SOUTH MEAGER GEOTHERMAL PROJECT

Western GeoPower Corp. has commenced the drilling of the first of two deep production-size wells to confirm the commercial viability of the South Meager geothermal project.

Precision Drilling, a division of Precision Limited Partnership, of Calgary, Alta., has been engaged as the principal drilling contractor for the drilling program at the project site located 170 kilometres north of Vancouver, Canada. Baker Hughes Canada Company, of Calgary, Alta., and its subsidiaries Hughes Christensen, Baker Hughes INTEQ (drilling and evaluation), Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids & Baker Oil Tools, will provide the major drilling services for the drilling program (including directional drilling equipment and engineering services; drilling fluids; drill bits; and liner hangers), with technical support provided by the geothermal group of Baker Hughes.

Using a Schramm air rotary rig with an ODEX casing system, Midnight Sun Drilling Company Ltd. of Whitehorse, Yukon, is engaged in drilling and setting the conductor pipe and surface casing to 100 metres for the two wells, designated MC-6 and MC-7, following which, Precision Drilling will complete the two large-diameter rotary wells, each to a target depth of 2,500 metres.

Construction of the access road and drill pad has been completed, and the drilling and testing of each well is expected to take about 10 weeks. On completion of the first well, MC-6, the rig will be skidded approximately six metres to commence drilling the second well, MC-7. Completion of MC-7 is expected during December, 2004.

The drilling program is being conducted under the direction of the company`s independent consultant, California-based GeothermEx Inc., an international authority in the evaluation of geothermal resources. GeothermEx has been involved in the development of all the producing geothermal fields in the United States and over 750 projects worldwide.

Following a detailed review of the technical data assembled over 20 years of exploration, GeothermEx completed a report in February, 2004, which classified South Meager as a high-temperature geothermal field (average temperature 220 to 240 degrees -- maximum measured temperature to date of 275 degrees) and a major geothermal site, with a potential development capacity of 100 megawatts or more and a most-likely capacity of 192 megawatts.

The company`s project management team comprises Andrew Ryder, BSc, resource development manager; Frank Baumann, PEng, technical program manager; and Russell Silva, drilling superintendent. Eduardo Granados, senior drilling engineer, GeothermEx, is the lead technical consultant on the project for the drilling program.

Mr. Ryder is a geologist with over 24 years of experience in the exploration, assessment and development of high-temperature geothermal resources, including 16 years in exploration management and four years in project management. He has worked on geothermal projects in the United States, the Philippines, New Zealand, Indonesia and Kenya.

Mr. Baumann is a professional geotechnical engineer with over 30 years of experience in the evaluation and management of natural resource development projects, including the infrastructure associated with these projects in Canada and Asia. His recent experience includes the development of renewable energy projects in British Columbia.

Mr. Silva has over 30 years of experience in all phases of geothermal, and oil and gas, drilling operations, including 15 years as a drilling supervisor and consultant in geothermal operations in the United States and Indonesia. He has supervised drilling operations at numerous geothermal fields, including the Geysers, Coso, Mammoth and Puna.

The British Columbia government`s Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) has formally accepted the South Meager project for review under the B.C. Environmental Assessment Act. The Company and its environmental consultants have met with representatives of provincial and federal government agencies to determine terms of reference for the review.

Fieldwork is under way to update and complete baseline environmental studies of the project site and the proposed transmission line routes which had been initiated during earlier drilling. The environmental studies will be incorporated into a project feasibility study on completion of the two confirmation wells. On the successful conclusion of the feasibility study, the company intends to submit the project to the EAO for formal review and approval in early 2005. Concurrent with EAO review, the Company would negotiate a power sales contract and project financing, with the objective of achieving resolution of all three elements in mid-2005. This would be followed in late 2005 by the commencement of plant construction, leading to commercial generation by mid-2007.

Having raised $21.6-million in financings since December, 2003, the company has sufficient funds on hand to complete the resource confirmation program and project feasibility study, which is estimated to cost $14.5-million.

WARNING: The company relies upon litigation protection for "forward-looking" statements.
