Infu-Tech and InfoSpace.com to Deliver Real-Time Medical Management Applications on Wireless Devices
Technology will be Available to Infu-Tech`s Existing Customer Base of 70 HMOs with 25 Million Enrollees.
CARLSTADT, N.J., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Infu-Tech, Inc. (Nasdaq: INFU - news), a specialty pharmaceutical provider, through its Smartmeds.com unit, and InfoSpace.com (Nasdaq: INSP - news), a leading provider of infrastructure services for wireless devices, merchants and Web sites, today announced they will work jointly to develop a platform for wireless interactive healthcare communications to assist in disease state management and B2B health commerce.
The platform will incorporate InfoSpace.com`s Internet and wireless communications technologies to integrate personalized medical content, commerce, and disease management services. The platform will initially perform a variety of tasks central to notifying and monitoring patients` drug compliance with the purpose of enhancing patients` wellness through disease management services and measuring clinical outcomes.
``InfoSpace.com`s proven leadership in providing the commerce and communication applications on wireless devices will give us the ability to enhance and extend the services we offer that will have a positive effect on medical outcomes and enable consumer and business users to interact anytime, anyplace,`` said Jack Rosen, Chairman and CEO of Infu-Tech. ``We are excited to work with InfoSpace.com to help us offer disease management services and specialty pharmaceutical products to our patients and B2B customers.``
The planned system will have the ability to notify patients of the proper times and dosage of medication. In addition, patients will be able to upload vital clinical signs and medication compliance measures that could lead to interactive communications between physicians and managed care organizations to better monitor and manage patient health needs.
Infu-Tech said they are confident that the technology also can be expanded to a variety of other healthcare settings. Physicians would be able to prescribe medications outside of their offices and managed care organizations would have the ability to more reliably measure outcomes. This ability is critical to such organizations that need to meet National Commission on Quality Assurance (NCQA) and other accreditation standards.
``The agreement with Infu-Tech is yet another application for the secure wireless Internet services with which InfoSpace.com is becoming synonymous,`` said Naveen Jain, chairman and CEO of InfoSpace.com. ``The devices we deliver under this agreement will have the potential to change the way patients manage their treatments and healthcare companies conduct their B2B commerce.``
``The use of wireless technology should provide the clinical and medication compliance measures essential to successful health management, improving quality of care and reduction of costs,`` said Mr. Rosen. The company noted that poor compliance with medication regimens costs society $150 billion per year. Twenty-eight percent of all hospital stays result from patients not taking their drugs and managing their illnesses properly at an annual cost of $47.4 billion. Better medication compliance could help reduce annual costs by as much as $45 billion, Infu-Tech estimates.

I HAVE VERY GOOD VIBRATIONS FOR INFOSPACE
Upside for InfoSpace.com?
By Jonathan Burton, Silicon Valley Correspondent
InfoSpace.com`s stock may seem rich but analysts say its B2B strategy justifies its lofty multiples.
InfoSpace.com outfits Web sites with information services and software to enhance online surfing and shopping, much as frontier merchants supplied hopeful ``Forty-Niners`` with pick axes and shovels during the California Gold Rush.
And if you know your history, it was savvy traders like Levi Strauss - not eager prospectors - who really hit pay dirt back then. Will history repeat? It already has.
InfoSpace.com (Nasdaq:INSP - news) is no five-and-dime stock. In fact, more than one Wall Street analyst suggests that its share price is more rich than reasonable.
``It`s like going into [upscale department store] Gumps and saying, `Is there value here?``` quips Richard Davis, Jr. of Tucker Anthony Cleary Gull. ``The stock is expensive on a multiple of revenue basis,`` Michael Graham of Robertson Stephens told clients bluntly.
Indeed, investors recently were paying a hefty 402 times sales for an Internet content provider whose Web site doesn`t look much different from a typical Web portal. Even Yahoo! (Nasdaq:YHOO - news), the undisputed gatekeeper of the portal space, trades at just 162 times sales.
Then why do eight of InfoSpace.com`s nine covering Wall Street analysts, according to Zacks Investment Research, rate the company either a ``buy`` or ``strong buy``?
Perhaps because InfoSpace.com occupies a rather unique dot-com space. On the Web, people search for information; they communicate with friends and business associates; and they buy things. InfoSpace.com helps improve the quality of each of these activities for Web sites and their users.
This is not just another portal site, trying vainly to knock Yahoo! off its perch. Yahoo! has succeeded because it became a brand that goes well beyond the usual Web fare of news, weather and sports. InfoSpace.com, by contrast, provides more than 2,500 consumer Web sites, e-tail merchants and wireless communications companies with infrastructure tools to boost their own brand identity.
If they choose to go click-to-click with Yahoo!, so be it. As Naveen Jain, InfoSpace.com`s charismatic founder and chief executive, says gleefully: ``We supply the bullets to everybody who wants to fight the battle.``
Heavy-Hitting Recruits
The newest combat recruits are giant telecommunications companies like Sprint (NYSE:FON - news), Vodafone AirTouch (NYSE:VOD - news), AT&T (NYSE:T - news), GTE (NYSE:GTE - news) and BellSouth (NYSE:BLS - news) - all of which have enlisted InfoSpace.com to supply content and commerce features for Internet-enabled cellular telephones and other wireless Web devices - including pagers, screen telephones, television set-top boxes and personal digital assistants.
Accordingly, wireless presents a huge opportunity for InfoSpace.com, which at its root is a leading packager and reseller of Internet content. The Redmond, Wash.-based company feeds Web sites with news, weather, sports and stock quotes, along with e-mail, chats, city guides, maps, classifieds, public records and telephone directories.
It also applies the technology for these sites to customize content and commerce features under their own name and look. The only clue that America Online (NYSE:AOL - news) doesn`t compile its white pages directory, for instance, is a tiny icon that says, ``Sponsored by InfoSpace.com.``
Why hire InfoSpace.com to create and manage something so mundane as a telephone book? Simple. On the Web, content may be king - but it`s the king of commodities. People want readily available online news and information, but huge Web players like AOL, Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT - news), Lycos (Nasdaq:LCOS - news), Dow Jones (NYSEJ - news) and NBCi (NYSE:NBCI - news) don`t want to spend time and money creating such easily duplicated content.
Couldn`t Yahoo! muscle into InfoSpace.com`s wireless turf? ``Yahoo! could do that,`` Davis concurs. Indeed, Yahoo! already is a destination on some Sprint mobile phones. But Davis points out that InfoSpace.com`s private-label strategy is a strong competitive advantage. ``If I put Yahoo! as my portal, then I`m creating the Yahoo! brand,`` he explains. Through InfoSpace.com, the telecoms can develop their own brand.
Invaluable Leadership
InfoSpace.com`s most valuable affiliation may be founder Jain, an articulate, quick-thinking leader with a reputation for being able to transform vision into reality. Jain launched InfoSpace.com in 1996 after seven years at Microsoft, where he helped develop Windows and supervised the MSN Network.
A hard-driving workaholic who doesn`t do it for the money - he`s worth billions - Jain has been described as smarter than Bill Gates - a comparison that makes him laugh. But Jain at least is as competitive as his old boss. ``Microsoft is a $650 billion company building an operating system for the PC. Here we are building an operating system for PC and non-PC - an information operating system. If there`s any justice in the world, we should be at least twice as big.``
InfoSpace.com`s recent market capitalization was just $14.8 billion, but Jain`s serious. The three companies that towered over the PC revolution in the `80s and `90s were not the PC-makers themselves, but dominant infrastructure players Microsoft, Intel and Cisco Systems.
This pattern seems to be repeating itself in the Internet revolution. Yet given the astronomical market valuations ascribed to many ``e-tail`` and ``business-to-business`` Web hopefuls, many investors may not fully realize that Internet leadership is shifting. Jain does.

InfoSpace Seen Rising on Demand for Cell-Phone Web Services
By Laura Raun
Redmond, Washington, Feb. 8 (Bloomberg) -- InfoSpace.com
shares have climbed more than 40-fold since the Internet content
and services provider first sold stock 14 months ago. Analysts
predict it`s just the beginning.
InfoSpace may rise another 20 percent to 200 over the next
year as it taps soaring demand from cellular-phone users for
electronic-mail and online shopping services, said analyst James
Preissler of PaineWebber Inc., who rates the shares ``buy.``
Founded and led by former Microsoft manager Naveen Jain,
InfoSpace has developed technology that allows wireless phone
users to check and trade stocks on line, among other things.
Earlier this month, GTE Corp.`s wireless division agreed to use
that technology. InfoSpace`s range of services and alliances are
unrivaled by competitors, investors and analysts say.
``He`s locking up the distribution channels, said Peggy
Ledvina, an analyst at Dain Rauscher Wessels, who has a ``strong
buy`` rating on the stock. ``It`s a masterstroke.``
Redmond, Washington-based InfoSpace sold shares to the public
in December 1998 at $15 each and since then has twice split its
stock 2-for-1. The company, with a market value of about $16.1
billion, is planning another 2-for-1 split in March.
InfoSpace shares rose 10 1/8 to 167 1/4 today. Merrill Lynch
& Co. analyst Henry Blodget sees the shares rising to 175, though
didn`t specify a time period. He has a ``buy`` rating on
InfoSpace.
U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray Co. analyst Safa Rashtchy said
InfoSpace shares could double over the next year. Rashtchy, who
rates the company ``strong buy,`` didn`t provide a specific price
target.
Wireless Services
InfoSpace offers Yellow Page directories and maps to Web
sites and marketing services to online merchants, which are resold
through SBC Communications Inc. and other phone companies.
Wireless services, such as online shopping, stock monitoring and
electronic messaging, are the third area and seen as the real
future for InfoSpace, analysts say.
About a billion cellular phones will be in use by 2003 and
half of them will be able to access the Internet, Jain said.
InfoSpace expects to get an average of $2 a month in subscription
fees from each user of a Web cell phone, he said in an interview.
Fees for online shopping, banking and other services will be
shared between InfoSpace and the carrier, he said.
``There`s no reason this won`t be a trillion dollar
company,`` said Jain, Infospace`s president and chief executive.
Asked how soon the company could achieve that, he said: ``A
lot faster than it took Microsoft to make a half trillion.`` That
took 24 years.
Losses Expected
Still, InfoSpace will see its profit from operations turn
into a loss in the March and June quarters because of recent
acquisitions, analysts said. The company is buying 80 percent of
wireless Internet company Saraide and all of electronic-commerce
software maker Prio Inc.
InfoSpace will lose 12 cents a share in both quarters,
according to the average estimate of analysts polled by First
Call/Thomson Financial. In the December quarter, the company
earned 10 cents a share, excluding amortization of goodwill and
acquisition costs.
Investors appear unruffled.
``Investors focus primarily on growth and revenue,`` said
David Brady, a fund manager at Stein Roe & Farnham, which owns
shares in InfoSpace. ``Investors, money managers are not real
worried about the bottom line. They`re more concerned about taking
business from competition.``
The competition, though, isn`t standing still.
Oracle Corp. said it plans to spin off its so-called Portal-
to-Go division to profit from the global market for online
services for cell phones and other wireless devices.
Phone.com Inc. makes software that lets users access the
Internet from cell phones, and Sprint Corp.`s wireless unit
recently agreed to use it. Phone.com said today that it`s buying
Paragon Software Ltd., which makes a program that allows users to
transfer online calendar data to their cell phones.
Nextel Communications Inc. is developing an online service
for cell-phone users with the help of $600 million from Microsoft.
InfoSpace remains ahead because of the breadth of its
services, which also includes online calendars, analysts said.
``There isn`t any direct competition,`` said Jack Ripsteen,
analyst at Hambrecht & Quist, who rates InfoSpace a ``buy.``
``They have a pretty complete package.``
Power Sharing
Jain needs to share more power for InfoSpace to succeed, said
investors and analysts.
Jain, who grew up in Delhi, India, came to the U.S. in 1982.
An energetic software engineer, he decided at the age of 36 that
he wanted to make a billion dollars by the age of 40. He left his
job at Microsoft, founded InfoSpace and within four months was a
billionaire.
``Making a billion dollars can`t be that hard,,`` Jain
recalled saying when he left Microsoft. ``Bill (Gates) has done it
a hundred times, and Bill can`t be a hundred times smarter than
me.``
He financed InfoSpace with $1.5 million of family money and
that of friends, publicly eschewing venture capital.
InfoSpace employs about 250, up from 15 at the beginning of
1998. That will double to 500 with the Prio and Saraide
acquisitions.
Senior Management
Jain has brought in professional managers to replace family
members, though the executive team remains in flux.
Of the senior managers, three have been in their jobs for
five months, one for 12 months and the chief financial officer is
an acting one. Tammy Halstead will continue as acting CFO until
she proves herself or a better candidate is found, Jain said.
``They need to get a strong, proactive CFO, who`s visible to
the street,`` said Preissler.
Still, Jain`s missionary zeal could keep needed talent at
bay.
``When you have that powerful a personality other powerful
personalities can be put off,`` said Bill Miller, a partner at
Olympic Venture Partners, a venture capital firm in Kirkland,
Washington. He was Jain`s boss at Microsoft.

Never change a winning team oder wie zuendi immer so schön sagt

Hi Infospace, hi rooky,
ich weiß gar nicht was Ihr habt. Bleibt ruhig.

AN ROOKY PERS.
Alles andere in Blue.

Das "never fall in love with a stock" sollte man naemlich wirklich beherzigen...auch wenn´s oft extrem schwerfaellt.

Naja, Liebe macht blind...
