DANA CORPORATION GOES LIVE ON ARIBA B2B E-COMMERCE PLATFORM IN 11 DAYS
Ariba Network integrates Dana with suppliers on Internet

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., February 9, 2000 – Ariba, Inc. (Nasdaq:ARBA), the business-to-business (B2B) eCommerce leader, today announced that Dana Corporation (NYSE: DCN), one of the world’s largest independent suppliers to vehicle manufacturers and the aftermarket, is executing live transactions on the global Ariba® B2B eCommerce platform just 11 days after beginning implementation.

As part of its global E-business initiative, Dana is using the Ariba platform to improve management of US$8 billion in annual worldwide purchases. With US$13.2 billion in 1999 revenues, Dana is a global company with 84,000 employees in 330 major facilities in 32 countries.

Twenty Dana employees at Dana`s Brake & Chassis Division in McHenry, Illinois are now using the Ariba ORMS™ B2B procurement solution to manage purchasing from its suppliers over the Internet, including MSC Industrial Direct Co. (NYSE: MSM), one of the premier distributors of metalworking and MRO supplies to industrial customers throughout the United States, and Boise Cascade Office Products (NYSE: BOP). This Dana facility is integrated with these suppliers using Ariba Network™ commerce services.

“This is an example of Dana moving at Internet speed and reflects our commitment to a rapid implementation with Ariba,” said Jim Woodward, Dana vice president and director of eBusiness.

Doug Grimm, Dana’s Director, Global Strategic Sourcing, said, “One of the reasons we selected Ariba was Dana’s ability to implement quickly with the Ariba solution. This will help us achieve our very aggressive cost-reduction goals.”

“Dana’s fast time-to-transactions on the Ariba platform is testament to Dana’s clear vision for e-business leadership and senior executive commitment,” said Larry Mueller, president and COO of Ariba. “Ariba is committed to its partnership with Dana to ensure the realization of their vision.”

The implementation team is using the AribaLive™ implementation methodology, a process-oriented model that delineates the necessary steps for a rapid, successful implementation of Ariba eCommerce solutions.

The aggressive rollout of the Ariba platform at Dana is expected to be completed Q1 2000 in five manufacturing sites worldwide. The implementation is initially focusing on operating resources such as capital equipment, travel services and maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) purchases.

The Ariba eCommerce platform, including the Ariba ORMS™ B2B procurement application and Ariba Network™ commerce services, are helping Dana drive economies of scale across its facilitates worldwide by creating an eCommerce infrastructure that electronically aggregates divisional and corporate purchasing from employee desktops and directs it through Ariba Network to preferred suppliers at higher-volume prices. Benefits include increased value with selected preferred vendors, significantly reduced transaction expense, consolidated information on vendor performance and reduced inventory requirements.

The intranet-based Ariba ORMS application provides seamless access to Ariba Network services that can drive cost savings while also speeding time-to-benefit. Ariba Network provides a single point of integration with business suppliers and ready-to-use electronic catalogs. It also provides efficient trading mechanisms such as reverse auctions, auctions, electronic payments and streamlined transaction services.
