Design and Economic Evaluation for BioOil System Completed

Conversion Cost Predicted at Under 60% of Natural Gas Average Price for the Past Twelve Months


VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 11, 2003--DynaMotive Energy Systems Corporation (OTCBBYMTF - News), Bruks Klockner and UMA Engineering announced today that a preliminary evaluation of a waste-to-energy system capable of converting wood residue into BioOil has been completed.

The evaluation, carried out for one of British Columbia`s existing forest operations, estimates the cost of conversion to be less than CDN$ 4.00 per gigajoule of energy, well below the current and historical prices of natural gas.

Natural gas prices have escalated over the past two years with peak well head prices exceeding CDN$10 per gigajoule. Price escalation and volatility is a significant concern within the sector. DynaMotive`s system, currently under development, processes residue produced by wood sector operations, potentially providing a secure supply of energy at a reduced cost, increase natural resource utilization and favorably impact the environment. BioOil, by virtue of being derived from bio-mass, is considered to be a green house gas neutral fuel, has no sulfur and low nitrogen oxide emissions.

BioOil can be used directly at the point of production without requirement for refining. Direct BioOil use has been demonstrated in boilers (lumber kilns, lime kilns) and in Magellan Aerospace Corp., Orenda Industrial power generation turbines.

Based on current evaluation, the opportunity for shipment of BioOil at competitive prices also arises. Cost of transportation is a significant factor in delivering energy commodities. BioOil has approximately seven times the energy density of dry forest and sawmill residue, giving BioOil a significant logistical and transportation cost advantage over solid bio-mass.

DynaMotive intends to deliver the first system to Erie Flooring and Wood Products. The fuel would be utilized to drive an Orenda power generation system capable of generating 2.5 megawatts of electricity and 12,000 lbs/hr pounds of steam for Erie Flooring`s operations. A second system will be constructed for applications within the forest industry. Ramsay Machine Works has been selected as the plant fabricators for the two plants.

Operational costs and royalties on energy production for such a plant were estimated at CDN$900,000 per annum, with finance costs and capital amortization estimated at CDN$ 700,000 per annum. The evaluation considers zero transfer cost for wood residue."

Top Government Researcher Joins Private-Sector Leader, DynaMotive, inEnergy/Environmental Partnership with Canadian Forest Service

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sep 9, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Canadian Forest Service (CFS) of Natural Resources Canada and DynaMotive Energy Systems Corporation (OTCBBYMTF) are teaming-up in an effort to help secure new projects and speed market penetration of DynaMotive`s renewable energy technology, Fast Pyrolysis, that converts biomass into a liquid fuel.

As part of the Agreement signed by DynaMotive and the CFS`s Great Lakes Forestry Centre (GLFC), in Sault Ste Marie, Ont., the GLFC has agreed to second one of its top researchers, Dr. Luc C. Duchesne, to DynaMotive, the company responsible for developing the patented Fast Pyrolysis or BioOil technology. During his assignment, he will serve as DynaMotive`s Chief Forester.

According to the Agreement, Dr. Duchesne will continue using his workspace at the GLFC while serving on the DynaMotive management team. Additionally, GLFC will help facilitate DynaMotive`s efforts to find other partners and secure the biomass resources and funding needed to develop BioOil plants in Sault Ste Marie and other areas of Northern Ontario. Dr. Duchesne`s extensive experience and valuable network of professional contacts within the forestry industry in Ontario are expected to expedite the introduction and application of DynaMotive`s technology. The Agreement covers joint work to be completed over a two-year period, beginning Aug. 16, 2003.

At DynaMotive, he will apply that expertise to the development of community-based energy solutions.

Both Kingston and Munro cited Dr. Duchesne`s credentials as a government researcher, academician and valuable partner to private-sector companies that are working to develop energy and environmental solutions.

A 13-year veteran of the Canadian Forest Service, Dr. Duchesne earned a bachelor`s degree in Forestry from Laval University in 1983, and a master`s degree in Forestry from the University of Toronto in 1985. He also earned a doctorate in Botany Biochemistry from the University of Guelph in 1988, and completed Professional Development Forums in Molecular Genetics, Molecular Biology and Plant Biotechnology at other major universities. He taught and supervised at seven universities, and has published more than 85 scientific articles, book chapters and books.
