AsiaInfo agrees to buy Lenovo services business

NEW YORK, July 27 (Reuters) - AsiaInfo Holdings (NasdaqNM:ASIA - News), which provides software and services to the telecommunications sector in China, said on Tuesday it agreed to acquire Lenovo Group Ltd.`s (HKSE:0992.HK - News) non-telecoms information technology services business in a stock deal valued at $36.3 million.

AsiaInfo expects the new unit to add 40 percent to 50 percent to its net revenues within 12 months of the deal`s closing, which is expected late in the third quarter, or early fourth quarter.
The company on Tuesday also reported it swung to profitability in the second quarter, but said third quarter results would fall short of expectations.
AsiaInfo reported a second-quarter net profit of $2 million, or 4 cents per share, compared with a loss of $1.1 million, or 2 cents a share, a year earlier during China`s SARS outbreak.
AsiaInfo said uncertainties in the telecom market continued to dampen carrier spending, which resulted in relatively low orders during the its second quarter that affected its revenue and earnings guidance for the third quarter.
