Enagas SA ist ein spanischer Energiekonzern, dessen Hauptgeschäftszweig die Förderung, den Import, den Vertrieb und den Transport sowie das Speichern von Erdgas umfasst. Darunter fällt auch die Umwandlung von Erdgas in seinen flüssigen Zustand (LNG; liquid natural gas), um das Gas so transportieren zu können. Zur Wiederumwandlung besitzt und hält Enagas Anteile an Regasifikations-Anlagen. Der Konzern versorgt mit seinem Gas hauptsächlich Spanien, wo die Liberalisierung des Gasmarktes dem Unternehmen 2003 einen kräftigen Schub gab. Neben dem Erdgasgeschäft transportiert und lagert der Konzern auch andere verwandte Flüssigkeiten. Hinzu kommt die Ausbeutung von Wärme, Kälte und Energie, die zum Hauptgeschäft der Gesellschaft zählen. Das Unternehmen ist neben Spanien und Europa u.a. in Mexiko, Chile und seit Anfang 2014 auch in Peru präsent. Das Geschäft untergliedert sich in die Segmente "Gas Transport", "Regasification" und "Storage".

Enagas ist nach wie vor der spanische Marktführer und hält im Gastransport, der Rückumwandlung (Regasification) und der Lagerung von Gas einen markanten Marktanteil. In der Rückumwandlung von Gas betreibt Enagas selbst drei eigene Standorte (Barcelona, Cartagena und Huelva) und hält Anteile an drei weiteren Regasifizierungsanlagen in Bilbao, Mexiko, Chile. In der Untertagelagerung (Underground Storage) betreibt Enagas drei Standorte (Serrablo, Yela und Gaviota), ein viertes Lager in Gijón ist geplant. Im Sektor Gas-Transport verfügte der Konzern Ende 2013 über ein Pipeline-Netzwerk mit der Gesamtlänge von 10.183 (i.V. 9.680) km. Das Volumen des transportierten Gases ging um 4% auf 402.337 (418.964) GWh zurück.

Fluxys, Enagas agree joint acquisition of Swedegas

Fluxys and Enagás have agreed to jointly acquire Swedegas, the company which owns and operates Sweden’s entire high-pressure gas pipeline network, from EQT Infrastructure.

Enagás and Fluxys will each invest around €100 million in terms of equity and in addition, third party debt financing will be provided at competitive terms, companies said in a statement. Both companies are managed as ownership unbundled Transmission System Operators as modelled by the European Union.

Swedegas, certified as TSO by the Swedish regulator (EI), owns around 600 km of high-pressure gas pipelines and an underground Storage facility, Skallen, located nearby Halmstad. It is also developing a bunkering/small scale LNG terminal in Gothenburg categorised as a project of common interest by the EU.

Enagas completes Saggas interest acquisition

Spanish LNG operator Enagás said it has completed the acquisition of a 30 percent interest in Saggas, the Sagunto regasification plant.

The deal is worth about 61 million euros, Enagás said in a statement issued on Monday.

Enagás has in January this year entered into an agreement with a fund managed by Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management to acquire 30 percent of Saggas and 30 percent of Bahía de Bizkaia Gas, which owns the Bilbao LNG terminal.

Saggas’ shareholder structure is now compromised by two companies, each with a 50% shareholding: Infraestructuras de Gas, formed by Unión Fenosa Gas and Oman Oil Company, and Iniciativas de Gas, made up of Enagás and Osaka Gas.

Enagas improving LNG loading services

Spanish LNG operator Enagás said it is improving its LNG tanker loading services and has carried out a series of measures at the company’s LNG plants.

These include the reduction of boil-off losses. According to Enagás, during the latest loadings at the company’s Huelva and Barcelona LNG plants, boil-off losses were reduced to zero.

The company has also made improvements in the loading rate. During the latest loading at the Barcelona plant an average rate of 3,500 m3 LNG/h, was achieved, peaking at 4,000 m3 LNG/h, Enagás added.

Enagás currently operates five of the seven plants in Spain: Barcelona, Cartagena, Huelva, BBG (Bilbao, 40%) and El Musel.

It also co-owns the Altamira regasification plant (Mexico), and is the main shareholder in GNL Quintero terminal (Chile).

Enagas acquires Endesa’s stake in GNL Quintero

Spanish LNG terminal operator Enagas on Thursday said it has, through its unit, Enagas Chile, reached a deal to acquire the total Endesa Chile stake in GNL Quintero for US$200 million.

With the acquisition of Endesa’s 20 percent stake, Enagas would up its total stake in the plant to 40.4 percent, the company said in its statement.

Upon completion of the transaction, the GNL Quintero shareholders would be Terminal de Valparaiso, a joint venture by Enagas Chile and Oman Oil Company, with a 40 percent stake while Enagas Chile, ENAP and Metrogas all hold 20 percent stake each.

The regasification terminal, located in the Bay of Quintero, in operation since 2009 has three tanks with overall storage capacity of 334,000 cubic meters, a total sendout capacity of 625,000 cubic meters per hour and docking facilities for methane tankers for up to 265,000 cubic meters of LNG.

Enagas added that the terminal is also planning to expand with the construction of a third LNG storage tank with 160,000 cubic meters capacity and increase its regasification capacity to 833,000 cubic meters of natural gas per hour.

Enagas increases stake in two LNG facilities

Spanish LNG terminal operator Enagas on Thursday said it has agreed to up its stake in the Sagunto regasification plant in Spain and the GNL Quintero facility in Chile.

According to the company’s statement, the company has agreed to acquire, through its unit Enagás Transporte, Union Fenosa Gas’ 42.5 percent stake in the 7.6 mtpa Sagunto regasification plant for €106 million.

Once the transaction, that is subject to regulatory approvals, is complete, Enagas share in the Sagunto LNG plant will increase to 72.5 percent, becoming the largest stake owner in the facility. Oman Oil Company owns a 7.5 percent stake while the remaining 20 percent is owned by Osaka Gas.

In addition to its recent agreement to acquire 20 percent stake in the GNL Quintero from Endesa Chile, Enagas has agreed to purchase the entire shareholding of the Aprovisadora Global de Energia, the spinoff of Metrogas and in which Gas Natural Fenosa holds the majority stake.

Under the agreement, Enagas would purchase the 20 percent stake for US$200 million, which, once both transactions are complete, would up the company’s stake in the Chilean LNG terminal to 60.4 percent.
