Obasanjo to launch locally produced sickle cell drug

President Olusegun Obasanjo President of Nigeria will by June launch NIPRISAN (HEMOXIN(TM)), the locally produced drug for sickle cell disorder.

The president will also use the occasion to commission Xechem International Inc. factory in the country in a move seen as a landmark investment in Nigeria. The company owns the exclusive rights to NIPRISAN

The drug NIPRISAN (HEMOXIN(TM), which is at present, undergoing final stage of registration with NAFDAC is a phyto-pharmaceutical drug for the treatment of patients suffering from Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). SCD is an insidious and painful genetic blood disorder often resulting in death at an early age.

Science and Technology Minister, Turner Isoun who disclosed this in Abuja noted that location of the factory in Nigeria would further crash the price of sickle cell drugs in Nigeria.

Isoun stated that Niprisan (HEMOXIN(TM)) was a drug cocktail, with phyto-pharmaceutical composition of four traditional plants extracted in a proprietary process. The licensor of the technology is the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) in Abuja, Nigeria.

Nigeria is said to have the highest sickle cell disease population in the world ranging from four to six million representing roughly three to five percent of the country`s population.

Isoun spoke at the inaugural meeting of the Ministers’ Council for the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) where he also called on the government to involve more laboratories for the control and analysis of the bird flu menace.

On the situation of bio technology in Nigeria, he called on the stockholding agencies to ensure that Nigeria benefits from the judicious and safe use of modern biotechnology.

"Biotech is a gold mine and important to this nation. Almost every Nigerian is affected by the operations of biotech. To be able to achieve all these, we will require the concerted political will and a focused leadership drive. It is therefore the collective responsibility of all of us key stakeholders of modern biotechnology to join forces in realizing this vision.

It is my belief that this collective mission will not jeopardize our separate mandates but will promote the effective coordination of our effort towards achieving the same ultimate goal."

To achieve the nation’s targets in biotech, the Director General of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), Bamidele Solomon called for the establishment of biotechnology development fund.

The fund, he stressed, could help the nation support competent researches and be ready to tackle problems like the bird flu.

He also disclosed that Nigeria in collaboration with Trinity Biotech of the Republic of Ireland will establish a facility at SHESTCO Abuja for the production of test kits for HIV/AIDS and other diseases like HB, malaria and so on.

He added that the Federal Government has approved the sum of $28 million as counterpart commitment for the project.

He also spoke of Nigeria’s collaboration with Shantha Biotechnics Limited of India for the establishment a facility for the production of Hepatitis B vaccine and other vaccines for related diseases like typhoid, polio, DTP and related ailments.

Very few knew about this news, except those of us that follow the stock closely. Next week when the company issues their PR everyone will know and it will be a mad rush to buy the stock. They have to issue a PR, it has already been made public by another source.

The CEO is flying back from Nigeria right now, per investor that called the company and spoke to the accounting dude there.

I really feel this stock could see a USXP type move. Way more potential than USXP and a fraction of the OS.

Well... I do not think my analysis will be as good as yours with the market cap backing but I will say this. Having watched PTSC lately with O/S shares not too much less I could see this stock taking the same path. I would give it a cap around a buck just because everyone is more familiar with HP then they are sick cell disease. However, if a buyout by Pfizor were to come into the picture I could see about 2 bucks by mid 2007.

.75 by July with PR`s to support their move forward and the endorsement by Nigeria

1.00 by the end of the year with facilities to back the product

2.00 by mid 2007 if they start producing and the world takes notice.

Wir können ruhig auf 0,015 runter gehen und den Gap schliessen, viele werden die Möglichkeit nutzen und nachkaufen, andere einsteigen.

Wir müssen beobachten wie weit sind MM`s bereit noch runter zu gehen und wieviele kommen rein. Ich habe gestern schon vermutet, s. Post#92! Wenn meine Theorie stimmt dann werden MM`s den Kurs auf 0,014-0,015 bringen und wieder auf 0,03 bringen(schneller 100%),kurzzeitig evt bis 0,035! Bin mir sicher es wird die Tage stark gecovered.

4.On the SHO List there is no reason for the MM`s to why not keep shorting it until price is low enough to cover the amount of shorting.. SHO hasn`t been enforce sense day 1.. IMO
5.most indicator are in down trend: MACD in a pinch,OBV is down mode,ect.

Nigeria to Manufacture Anti-AIDS Drugs - FG

The Federal Government said that the country would go into local manufacture of Anti-retroviral drugs (ARVs) and the Artemisinin containing therapies for malaria (ACTs).

Government also disclosed that another local pharmaceutical manufacturing plant for the production of "NICOSAN", a pytomedicine for the management of sickle cell anaemia would be built in Abuja.

Speaking in Abuja at the opening of the National Institute for Phamarceutical Research (NIPDR) training course on Good Manufacturing Practices for Pharmaceuticals and How to Manage Clinical Trials, the Minister of State for Health, Princess Funke Adedoyin said the country would soon go into the manufacturing of the aforesaid drugs.

"Hosting this course at this point in time in my opinion is very timely because Nigeria is one of the countries that will soon start the local manufacturing of the ARVs and ACTs. There is a compelling need for our pharmaceutical and clinical research experts to update their knowlege and skills of these phamaceutical products", she said.

She noted that "it is hoped that the NIPRD with its cadre of scientific personnel will soon begin to show interest in the synthesis and formuation studies of ARVs and ACTs. We must also encourage and build adequate capacity for the local production of these medicines and ensure that their quality comply with all established international standards".

Na ja, allgemein ist heute alles rot. die Gewinnmitnahmen. Bei XKEM die letzte Wochen war starke DILUTION on BUY/SELL PRESSURE und wie es scheint es wird sehr schwer noch mal billig reinzukommen ARCA versucht mal die ganze Zeit aber es klappt woll nicht, die gehen extra im ASK runter aber niemand will verkaufen. Das kann so weiter Wochenlang laufen bis wir etwas von XKEM zu sehen kriegen.
Wenn der Kurs anfängt richtig nach oben zu krabbeln dann irgendwas ist da im Busch Es wird sehr schwer die INFOS aus Nigeria zu verstecken. Also abwarten, vielleicht Juni/Juli. wer weißt schon...

das mit dem Betrug ist wohl eher in den Bereich Schwachsinn einzuordnen.

(Richtig gelaufen ist der Wert ja noch garnicht)

Na wir haben es schon vermutet! Bin zu 50% bei 0,02 raus und deshalb nicht so traurig! XKEM verkauft wie verrückt und jetzt fliegen viele SL raus Bin auch gespannt. Wenn es schnell runter geht dann bald werden wir Reverse sehen, hoffentlich...Wird auch Zeit

Wie in einem Newsbericht gestern Nacht aus den USA zu erfahren war, bekam Xechem eine Medikamentenkennzeichnung für ein weiteres Sichelzellenmedikament, durch die U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), erteilt.

Research led by Dr. Donald Abraham of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has shown 5-HMF to be "the best potential anti-sickling agent in 30 years of sickle cell research", performed by his group. 5-HMF not only is a natural product with very little, if any, toxicity, but it has a high affinity for sickle cell hemoglobin. It is also very active in genetically modified mice as shown by Dr. Toshio Asakura, Director, and his colleagues at the NIH-NHLBI Sickle Cell Disease Reference Laboratory at the Children\'s Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania.

According to Xechem\'s Chairman and CEO, Dr. Ramesh Pandey, "We are pleased with the FDA\'s decision granting Orphan Drug Designation to 5-HMF. This puts Xechem into a unique position where the company will have two drugs in the pipeline for treating patients with sickle cell disease. 5-HMF is a new type of drug that interacts specifically with intracellular hemoglobin without interacting with other proteins in the body. Today there are no non-toxic drugs available on the market to treat SCD. We are actively proceeding with our first drug (NICOSAN(TM)) in the hope of bringing it to the Nigerian market immediately following Nigerian regulatory approval.
