ROSENBERG: EVERYONE IS IN THE SAME TRADES
David Rosenberg doesn’t disappoint with this morning’s research note. He points out a factor that I have been referring to lately: everyone is in the same trades. The consensus is that reflation is working, the U.S. dollar and therefore U.S. denominated paper is bad, international is good, commodities will make you rich, gold should be praised because hyperinflation is coming and of course, stocks should be “bought on any downside”.
But as I’ve often pointed out, inflation can’t run rampant unless the velocity of money picks up. Regular readers are familiar with my iced tea example. The Fed has dumped a boatload of iced tea mixed (money) into the economy, but that money (i.e., inflation potential) can’t pick up until banks start lending the money (stirring in the iced tea mix). We are currently staring at record high bank balance sheet cash and reserve velocity that is crashing which basically means the economy is sitting on a mushroom cloud of inflation if consumers and businesses ever start borrowing again, but we’re just not seeing that occur right now. Banks are hoarding the cash as they struggle with their toxic asset induced cash flow issues. The only loans getting approved right now are very low risk and unfortunately, most businesses and consumers don’t fit that description.
There’s no doubt that the economy has reflated from near depression like deflationary levels, but that doesn’t mean inflation is on the horizon. I was certainly a staunch deflationist in 2008, but I have lifted my foot off the gas substantially. It’s looking more and more like we’re staring at a period of deflation in the things that we own (e.g., your house) and inflation in the things that own us (e.g., your interest rates). It’s important to note that one is likely to keep a lid on the other, however. Weak consumers and struggling banks will keep the threat of hyperinflation under wraps, however, the incredible never ending U.S. printing press will slow the rate of deflation in key markets such as housing (though not exterminate it). The reflation trade looks like a boat with everyone on the same side and that means it’s either time to jump off or make the even more difficult maneuver to the other side….

Antwort auf Beitrag Nr.: 37.327.202 von knkoegel am 05.06.09 11:27:06Man sollte Silber nehmen
Genau.

Man sollte Silber nehmen.
