Tesla loses one of its top executives
https://electrek.co/2020/06/09/tesla-loses-top-executive-rob…
Tesla’s Vice President of Business Development and one of the key executives behind Tesla’s success in China, Robin Ren (front left in the picture above), has left the automaker.
Ren joined Tesla in 2015 to lead the automaker’s operations in Asia.
We exclusively reported in 2018 that he took over responsibilities for worldwide sales at Tesla after several leadership changes in its sales and service department.
Ren also led the effort to secure the deal for Tesla to build its factory in Shanghai – resulting in Tesla becoming the first foreign automaker to have a wholly-owned factory in China.

Model Y -- derselbe Käse aus dem Zelt

Tesla Memo Indicates Possible Model Y Quality Issues. Here’s How to Interpret That.
https://www.barrons.com/articles/tesla-memo-model-y-producti…
...
The news and commentary site Electrek reported on Tuesday that Tesla CEO Elon Musk sent an email to employees outlining Model Y production problems and stressing the importance of fixing them quickly. Musk said in the email, which Barron’s has reviewed, “It is extremely important for us to ramp up Model Y production and minimize rectification needs. I want you to know that it really makes a difference to Tesla right now.”
Tesla didn’t return a call seeking comment.
Rectification likely refers to rework done to vehicles after they leave the regular assembly line. Rework adds time and cost.
It sounds a little concerning. And the email also mentions supply-chain issues. These kinds of problems, however, are also par for the course in high-volume manufacturing settings.
“Model Y production will always have a few speed bumps in the first six to nine months of production and is not overly worrisome,” Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said. “Tesla has faced much worse in Fremont on production issues and we believe these potential wrinkles will be smoothed out by the end of June.”
Ives doesn’t have direct knowledge of Model Y issues, but has watched Tesla produce other models, giving him context. Ives rates Tesla shares the equivalent of Hold and has an $800 price target for the stock.
Issues involving the supply chain are likely related to the coronavirus pandemic and are being faced by many U.S. manufacturers. “Everyone went back to work at the same time,” ISM manufacturing survey Chairman Tim Fiore said in an interview recently. Ideally, suppliers would restart plants a little ahead of the final assembly plants. That way there is inventory in place.
None of this minimizes the importance of Musk’s email. Production volume and production quality certainly matter. More important, though, is that there is no standardized data regarding rework rates for other Tesla models. Keep in mind that manufacturing in a post-Covid-19 environment will be hard, and investors should be ready to hear about supply-chain and production problems on second-quarter earnings calls—after plants have restarted with new worker protections.

Ab 2020 könnte ja Tesla ganz cool menschliche Fahrer laut ARK-Cathie einsetzen
