Hyseq rallies back from midday fall

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Shares of biopharmaceutical company
Hyseq dropped and then made a last-minute recovery Wednesday after the
company named Dr. George Rathmann president and chief executive
officer, replacing company founder Lewis Gruber.

Shares fell nearly 6 percent after
the announcement, before
bounding back and finishing the
day 5/16 higher at 24 3/16.

Gruber will continue to work with
Hyseq (HYSQ: news, msgs) as a
member of the board of directors,
the company said.

No reason was given for the
management change.

"Having Dr. Rathmann serve as President and CEO completes a transition
of leadership that began in February when George became Chairman," said
Gruber. "Hyseq is very fortunate to have the benefit of George`s
experience, energy and stature."

Hyseq reported a first quarter loss of 48 cents a share earlier this month.
That compares to a 35 cent loss for the first quarter a year ago.

The company researches and develops biopharmaceuticals to treat acute
and chronic diseases.
