Oder Was ???

@Immanuel

also, was mir so auffällt ...

Medarex Announces 2000 Fourth Quarter and Fiscal Year-End Financial Results
PRINCETON, N.J., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Medarex, Inc. (Nasdaq: MEDX) announced today fourth quarter results for the three-month period ending December 31, 2000. During this period, Medarex reported revenues and interest income totaling $16.8 million and a benefit for income taxes of $17.4 million, resulting in after tax net income of $16.0 million, or $0.22 per share. For the year ended December 31, 2000, Medarex reported revenues and interest income totaling $43.5 million and a benefit for income taxes of $13.1 million resulting in after tax net income of $3.3 million, or $0.05 per share. The tax benefit is principally derived from Medarex`s portion of the increase in the book value of the assets of Genmab A/S resulting from the proceeds received upon completion of their initial public offering (IPO) in October 2000. While the tax benefit resulted in a profitable fourth quarter and full year 2000, the Company does not expect to be consistently profitable in the near future. Without the tax benefit, Medarex`s net loss would have been approximately $2.1 million or $0.03 per share for the fourth quarter of 2000 and Medarex would have had a net loss of $14.7 million or $0.21 per share for the full year 2000. These results compare with revenues and interest income totaling $2.0 million and a net loss of $6.6 million, or $0.10 per share, for the fourth quarter of 1999 and revenues and interest income totaling $11.1 million and a net loss of $17.0 million, or $0.27 per share, for full year 1999.
The revenues and interest income increase for the three months ended December 31, 2000 relates principally to interest income, sponsored research and development funding and increased contract and license revenue. The increase in research and development expense reflects higher personnel costs, supplies, trial and laboratory expenses related to work completed for partners and the initiation of additional in-house clinical development programs. General and Administrative (G&A) expenses for the fourth quarter increased by $2.2 million over the same period in 1999, and for the full year 2000, G&A increased by $10.1 million over the full year 1999. The increase in G&A expenses included $2.6 million in non-cash charges for options and warrants issued to employees and consultants in the fourth quarter. Medarex ended 2000 with cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities of $343.6 million.
Significant Medarex events during the fourth quarter include:
-- Announcing the UltiMAb(TM) Human Antibody Development System(SM),
including a unique crossbred mouse that can produce all human antibody
isotypes;
-- Enhancing our management team with the appointment of Christian S.
Schade as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer;
-- Forming an agreement with Eli Lilly and Company to develop fully human
antibodies for a number of Lilly disease targets;
-- Announcing a definitive agreement with Immuno-Designed Molecules S.A.
for the development of cancer therapeutics;
-- Creating an alliance with ZymoGenetics, Inc. that is expected to
utilize ZymoGenetics` genomics experience and Medarex`s fully human
antibody development technology to develop fully human therapeutics;
-- Collaborating with Epigen, Inc. to research, develop and commercialize
antibody-based cancer therapeutics; and
-- Presenting positive Phase II clinical trial results for MDX-33 at the
Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology.
"During the fourth quarter, we continued the momentum of earlier quarters by enhancing our technology with the UltiMAb system, adding three new partnerships to our continually expanding list of partners and strengthening our product pipeline," said Donald L. Drakeman, President and CEO of Medarex.
In addition to fourth quarter events, year 2000 highlights include:
-- Completing a follow-on public offering of common stock that raised
$388 million for Medarex;
-- Announcing our December 1999 strategic alliance with the pharmaceutical
division of Kirin Brewery Co. of Japan, including acquisition of rights
to Kirin`s TC Mouse(TM) technology, which offers 100% of the human
antibody genes;
-- Launching an alliance with Biosite Diagnostics, Incorporated aimed at
accelerating drug discovery using Trans-Phage Technology(SM), a high
throughput method of creating high-affinity, fully human antibodies;
-- Announcing 13 new collaborations with pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical
and genomics companies for the development of fully human antibody
therapeutics. These new partnerships expanded the total number of
fully human antibody development partnerships to 27;
-- Completing a two-for-one stock split of Medarex`s common stock; and
-- Continuing the introduction and development of products in our product
pipeline.

"the Company does not expect to be consistently profitable in the near future. Without the tax benefit, Medarex`s net loss would have been approximately $2.1 million or $0.03 per share for the fourth quarter of 2000 and Medarex would have had a net loss of $14.7 million or $0.21 per share for the full year 2000."

Was denkt Ihr?
Gruß Swenf
