Zwei Welten wachsen zusammen


Der Umstieg auf die Telefonie via Datennetz ist heute für viele Unternehmen gesetzt. Häufig wählen Anwender den Weg der sanften Migration, um Investitionen zu schützen und erste Erfahrungen zu sammeln.

Je mehr Skepsis und Widerstand uns entgegenschlugen, desto härter arbeiteten wir“, erzählte der israelische Voice over IP(VoIP)-Pionier Elon Ganor vor zwei Jahren in einem Interview über den bevorstehenden Durchbruch der Technologie und dessen weitreichende Folgen. Der Vocaltec-Gründer tat gut daran, seine revolutionäre Vision von einem einheitlichen Telefon- und Datennetz nicht aufzugeben.

Denn ein Jahrzehnt nach dem ersten aufsehenerregenden Testtelefonat via Rechner lässt die Konvergenz-Technologie ihre Kinderkrankheiten allmählich hinter sich und sorgt die Dynamik eines mittlerweile milliardenschweren Marktes dafür, dass sie sich unaufhaltsam weiter verbreitet. Für viele Unternehmen stellt sich heute nicht mehr die Frage, ob, sondern wann und in welchem Tempo sie auf VoIP umsatteln. Auch die privaten Haushalte hat die Internet-Telefonie inzwischen voll erreicht.


2007 überholt VoIP die klassische Telefonie
Voice over IP wandelt das gesprochene Wort in digitale Datenpakete um, die dann via Internet-Protokoll (IP) durch die Datennetze flitzen und am anderen Ende wieder „zusammengesetzt“ werden. Wenn das reibungslos funktioniert, wird eine ungleich teurere Verbindung allein für die Telefonie schlicht überflüssig. Kein Wunder also, dass Elon Ganor und sein Entwicklerteam seinerzeit mit Skepsis, ja sogar mit offenen Anfeindungen zu kämpfen hatten – beispielsweise von den klassischen Telefongesellschaften.

Für diese war VoIP allein aus Gründen der Investitionssicherheit ein rotes Tuch und noch dazu ein Buch mit sieben Siegeln. Doch längst sind die Carrier gezwungen, ihren Kurs in dieser Frage grundlegend zu überdenken. So läuft das Umwandeln leitungsvermittelter Netze zu konvergenten und breitbandigen IP-Netzen auf Hochtouren. Die „alte“ Telefonwelt mit ihren separaten Sprachleitungen wird zwar noch eine ganze Weile weiter existieren: Auf lange Sicht wird sie ihre Vormachtstellung aber aufgeben müssen.

Um die Jahreswende resümierte der Marktforscher Gartner: „Oberflächlich gesehen ist der Telekom-Markt derzeit stabil. Doch die Umsätze mit der herkömmlichen Sprachtelefonie gehen kontinuierlich zurück. Der Wettbewerb mit anderen Services wie VoIP, Breitbandinternet oder Mobilfunk wird immer stärker. Daher geraten die Telefongesellschaften zunehmend unter Druck, sich nach neuen Umsatzquellen umzusehen.“ Die deutsche Regulierungsbehörde (RegTP) stellte in ihrem Jahresbericht 2004 zum Thema Sprachtelefonie fest, dass die Deutsche Telekom zwischen 2001 und 2004 rund ein Viertel ihres Minutenvolument verloren hat – VoIP dürfte diesen Abwärtstrend zusätzlich verstärken.

Was die Hardware betrifft, wird die Technologie Marktkennern zufolge schon 2007 zum Überholmanöver ansetzen. Dann soll der Marktanteil der IP-basierten Systeme von Herstellern wie Nortel, Avaya, Alcatel, Siemens, NEC, Cisco und EADS Telecom den der klassischen Telefonanlagen übertreffen. Ein rasantes Wachstum ist auch bei IP-Telefonen zu beobachten: 2004 gingen sechs Millionen über den Ladentisch, in diesem Jahr sollen es schon zehn Millionen sein. Daran hat die USA mit 45 Prozent aller verkauften Endgeräte den größten Anteil. Dahinter folgt Europa mit 35 Prozent. Für Deutschland prognostizieren die Marktforscher von IDC in einer Studie aus dem vergangenen Jahr ein Ansteigen des VoIP-Marktvolumens auf 528 Millionen US-Dollar bis 2007. Die durchschnittliche jährliche Wachstumsrate beziffern sie auf 69 Prozent.


Niedrige Kosten nicht das einzige Argument
Was macht VoIP so attraktiv? An vorderster Stelle ist sicher das Einsparpotenzial zu nennen. Laut Soreon Research sinken die laufenden Ausgaben bei einer reinen IP-Telefonie-Lösung gegenüber einer traditionellen TK-Anlage in einem Zeitraum von fünf Jahren um rund 31 Prozent. Noch dazu sind interne Telefonate zwischen Unternehmensstandorten mit IP-Telefonie kostenlos. Dabei spielt die Entfernung keine Rolle. „Derzeit profitieren von VoIP vor allem Unternehmen mit vielen Standorten, da sie bei firmeninternen Gesprächen sparen“, bestätigt Dr. Thorsten Wichmann, Geschäftsführer von Berlecon Research. Darüber hinaus trägt die einfachere Verwaltung bei VoIP zur Kostensenkung bei. „Allein die Beschränkung auf eine Infrastruktur bringt deutlich spürbare Einspareffekte“, sagt André Koch, Produktmanager bei Funkwerk. „Bei Neuinstallationen muss nur ein Kabelsystem verlegt werden, die laufende Instandhaltung erfordert ebenfalls weniger Aufwand.“

Fazit: Die datenbasierte Gesprächsvermittlung liefert inzwischen dieselben Leistungsmerkmale wie die klassische Telefonie – und das zu weitaus günstigeren Konditionen. Doch VoIP hat es nicht nötig, sich als reines Ersatzprodukt und allein über den Preis zu verkaufen. Denn der eigentliche Mehrwert der Technologie liegt für Business-Anwender in innovativen Anwendungen wie Computer Telephony Integration (CTI), Unified Messaging oder ausgeklügelten Call-Center-Funktionen. Diese lassen sich mit VoIP-Infrastrukturen leichter umsetzen, als mit herkömmlichen Telefonanlagen.

Ein Beispiel aus der Praxis: Beim Pay-TV-Sender Premiere gehen jährlich mehr als zehn Millionen telefonische und drei Millionen schriftliche Anfragen ein; rund um die Uhr sind in zwölf Call Centern an unterschiedlichen Standorten bis zu 1300 Agenten im Einsatz. Den technischen Betrieb der Call Center hat Premiere kürzlich an BT ausgelagert. Der IT-Dienstleister betreibt die Standorte mit einer VoIP-Plattform. Der Grund: Durch die Technologie werden die bislang getrennt operierenden Standorte zu einem einzigen virtuellen Call Center verbunden, so dass Anfragen flexibler weitergeleitet und schneller bearbeitet werden können. Zudem lassen sich die Anrufe und damit die Arbeit grundsätzlich besser verteilen. Diese Aufgabe übernimmt ein vorgelagertes System des Lösungsanbieters Wicom.

Tdsoft and VocalTec Announce the Signing of an Acquisition Agreement

Tdsoft Ltd. ("Tdsoft"), a global provider of Voice-over-IP (VoIP) gateways, and VocalTec Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: VOCL) ("VocalTec"), a telecom equipment provider offering carrier class packet voice solutions, today announced the signing of an agreement among the companies and shareholders of Tdsoft, pursuant to which Tdsoft`s shareholders will be issued VocalTec shares in exchange for all of the share capital of Tdsoft. Following completion of the transaction, the shareholders of Tdsoft will own 75% of the outstanding share capital of VocalTec and the current shareholders of VocalTec will own the remaining 25%. VocalTec will remain a publicly-held company and Tdsoft will become a wholly-owned subsidiary thereof.


The transaction is expected to close by early December 2005. Completion of the transaction will be subject to the approval of VocalTec`s and Tdsoft`s shareholders and the obtaining of certain regulatory and other approvals.

Die frage ist jetzt ob Tdsoft genug kapital hat um die produkte an den mann zu bringen und die software weiter zu vermarkten.Weiß jemand ob die firma Tdsoft schon an der börse gehandelt wird?
Ich bin positiv gestimmt, weil ich einfach von der voip technologie begeistert bin und mir auch sicher bin das es entweder bald, spätestens aber in 2 jahren der durchbruch kommt für diese technologie.

die Technologie ist faszinierend, daber sie ist schon da.
Vocaltec war der Pioneer, aber jetzt brauchen die Provider und Telcoms Vocaltec nicht. Cisco Systems u.a. haben die Technologie für voip und die Software von Vocaltec ist jetzt schon veraltet. Die bekommen Ihre Software nicht mehr verkauft, ende, basta. Versuch dein Geld so schnell wie möglich dort rauszuziehen und investiere in die faszinierende Welt von Voip. z.b. Primus Telecommunications, voip weltweit (dort bin ich siehe meine Beiträge unter WPKN 903720) oder QSC, Broadnet oder United Internet voip BRD.

ich stimme dir zu das cisco etc. die technologie schon haben nur.....weißt du das ein tochterunternehmen von cisco an vocal bzw. jetzt tdsoft beteiligt ist??Desweiteren ist die telekom "immer" noch beteiligt.
Die aktie ist hochspekulativ ich bleibe aber trotzdem investiert.

VOCALTEC ANNOUNCES THIRD QUARTER 2005 RESULTS

HERZLIA, Israel - November 18, 2005 – VocalTec Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: VOCL), a telecom equipment provider offering packet voice solutions for carriers and service providers, today reported results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2005.
Revenues for the third quarter of 2005 were $0.6 million, compared with $1.4 million in the second quarter of 2005 and $1.2 million in the third quarter of 2004. According to U.S. GAAP, net loss in the third quarter of 2005 was $1.0 million, or $0.07 per share, compared with net loss of $2.4 million, or $0.16 per share in the second quarter of 2005, and compared with a net loss of $2.9 million, or $0.19 per share, in the third quarter of 2004. The decrease in the net loss for the third quarter of 2005 compared to the net loss for the second quarter of 2005 is partially attributed to a tax refund due in the fourth quarter of 2005 amounting to approximately $1.1 million.

Gross margin was 56% in the third quarter of 2005, compared to 52% in the second quarter of 2005 and 31% in the third quarter of 2004. Operating expenses were $2.3 million in the third quarter of 2005, compared to $3.2 million in the second quarter of 2005 and $3.2 million in the third quarter of 2004. The operating loss was $2.0 million in the third quarter of 2005, compared to $2.5 million in the second quarter of 2005 and $2.9 million in the third quarter of 2004.

At the end of the third quarter of 2005, cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments totaled $0.7 million (after receipt of the $1.0 million loan received in July 2005 from Deutsche Telekom), compared with $1.7 million at the end of the second quarter of 2005.

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- Cisco Systems Inc.`s (CSCO) Dutch unit disclosed Monday a 36.1% stake in Israeli company VocalTec Communications Ltd., according to a regulatory filing Monday.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Cisco Systems International BV reported beneficially owning about 1.67 million ordinary shares in VocalTec, which develops software for voice and multimedia communications through the Internet.

The filing said the Cisco unit acquired the ordinary shares for investment purposes.

Ich persönlich vermute das einer von den "großen" nach dem "pervers" split eingestiegen ist.

Vieleicht cisco oder aber die telekom haben ihre beteiligung ausgeweitet,zumal die telekom vocaltec noch einen "kredit" im sommer 05 über 1 million euro zugestanden haben.
Auf jeden fall bleibt es spannend.Ich bin froh das ich meine anteile nicht verkauft habe.
Es bleibt nach wie vor,vocaltec ist eine sehr große spekulation.

Ich sehe eine reale Chance, dass Cisco mittelfristig den Laden komplett übernimmt.
Die Umsätze in BRD sind wohl i.d.R. eher symbolisch,
liquiden Handel gibt`s wohl nur in US.

Nächsten Mittwoch gibt`s Q4/05 u. 2005 Geschäftszahlen.

Das ist i.Ü. keine Wertung bzgl. Vocaltec.
Vocaltec hat offensichtlich vor einem Jahr im letzten Moment noch die Kurve gekriegt und durch Umstellung seines Produktportfolios wieder Fuss gefasst.
Cisco kommt traditionell nur durch Zukäufe vorwärts,
eine reine Finanzbeteiligung an Vocaltec ist für mich wenig glaubhaft. U.U. wurde Vocaltec erst einmal vor der Insolvenz gerettet, von einer Komplettübernahme war Cisco vielleicht noch nicht überzeugt.

VocalTec's Posts Narrower 1st-Quarter Loss Due to Large Product Orders, Cost Containment


HERZLIA, Israel (AP) -- VocalTec Communications Ltd., an Israeli provider of voice-over-IP services, said Tuesday it posted a slimmer loss in the first quarter, thanks to several large product orders made in the last part of 2006.


For the period ending March 31, losses totaled $1.8 million, or 25 cents per share, compared with a loss of $2 million, or 43 cents per share, in the same period last year. Excluding share-based compensation expenses, the company said it lost 21 cents per share in the quarter.

Sales increased to $2.2 million from $1.7 million thanks to several large orders made late last year. The company also reduced research and development expenses to $1.1 million from $1.3 million in the same period of 2006. Overall operating costs were even with last year's quarter at $2.9 million.

"We are encouraged by our results for the first quarter, which showed strong sales growth along with effective cost controls," said Chief Executive Officer Yosi Albagli. "We began to benefit from the infrastructure that was built in 2006 and believe that we are well positioned to capitalize on the opportunities that lie ahead."

Shares of VocalTec Communications Ltd. rose 1 cent Tuesday to close at $3.61.

Mobifon-2000 and VocalTec have reached an agreement for the purchase of VocalTec products and services. VocalTec anticipates revenues of several millions of dollars related to this agreement over the next years, out of which product revenues of approximately two million US dollars are expected during the balance of 2007.
