To exercise the option, Rio Tinto will pay Global US$80 million within three years. In order to maintain the option during that period, Rio Tinto must pay Global US$3 million in staged payments, complete 25,000 meters of drilling and cover all Global's Taca Taca property maintenance expenses. Upon exercising the option, Rio Tinto will be responsible for the first US$120 million in expenditures on the project before Global will be required to fund its proportional share. In addition, Global can elect to have Rio Tinto contribute its share of exploration, development and mine construction expenditures on a deferred carried basis. Further, Global will maintain the right to independently market and sell its share of product produced by any future mining operation.

Lumina Copper drills 426 m of 0.75% Cu at Taca Taca

      2008-08-26 08:58 ET - News Release

      Mr. David Strang reports

LUMINA COPPER REPORTS RESULTS FROM SIX DRILL HOLES AT TACA TACA INCLUDING 426 METERS GRADING 0.99% COPPER EQUIVALENT(II)-RIO TINTO DISCONTINUES OPTION

Lumina Copper Corp. has received notice from Rio Tinto PLC that it will not continue its option on the Taca Taca copper-gold-molybdenum project in Salta province, Argentina, in spite of drilling the best holes on the property to date. Rio Tinto indicated that despite the excellent results from its exploration program, the deposit would not likely meet its corporate objectives.

The results of the Rio Tinto program are highlighted by holes TTBJ-0007 which graded 426 metres grading 0.75 per cent copper, 0.16 gram per tonne gold and 0.025 per cent molybdenum (0.99 per cent copper equivalent(ii)) including 120 metres grading 1.40 per cent copper, 0.21 gram per tonne gold and 0.035 per cent molybdenum (1.73 per cent copper equivalent(ii)); TTBJ-0006 that returned 248 metres grading 0.89 per cent copper, 0.11 g/t gold and 0.036 per cent molybdenum (1.16 per cent copper equivalent(ii)) and TTBJ-0003 that returned 195 metres grading 0.78 per cent copper, 0.29 g/t gold and 0.030 per cent molybdenum (1.12 per cent copper equivalent(ii)).

Rio Tinto completed 5,003 metres in eight steeply inclined (minus 70 to minus 90 degrees) diamond drill holes drilled from six platforms covering an 800-metre-diameter area in the centre of the Taca Taca porphyry copper-gold-molybdenum deposit. Two of the eight holes (TTBJ-0001 and TTBJ-0004) were stopped due to mechanical reasons before they reached the target.

Rio Tinto targeted a deeper zone of higher-grade copper mineralization inferred to exist below the base of the existing drilling and also delineated a central area of enriched copper mineralization that is open to the north as well as to depth. The six successful Rio Tinto holes ranged from 472 to 1,153 metres in vertical depth and averaged 708 metres. In comparison, the 159 holes (24,614 metres) drilled by the five previous operators ranged in vertical depth between 15 and 529 metres and averaged 149 metres vertical depth.

The results of the successful holes are listed in the accompanying table.

      (i) Copper equivalent calculated using $1 (U.S.)
per pound Cu, $400 (U.S.) per ounce Au and
$6 (U.S.) per pound Mo and is not adjusted for
      metallurgical recoveries as these remain
uncertain. The formula used is as follows: CuEQ
equals Cu per cent plus (Au g/t times 12.86
divided by 22.05) plus Mo per cent times 132.28
      divided by 22.05).
(ii) Intervals have been calculated using a
      0.40-per-cent CuEq cut-off grade.

Lumina has now reacquired a 100-per-cent interest in the property. In light of the excellent Rio Tinto drill results, Lumina intends to aggressively advance the project. Within the next six weeks, after all data have been received from Rio Tinto, the company will release a comprehensive drill plan and a new 43-101-compliant resource estimate and during the fourth quarter initiate an exploration and infill drill program designed to expand and upgrade the zone of enriched copper mineralization at Taca Taca and to explore for the deeper zone of higher-grade copper-gold-molybdenum mineralization.

Leo Hathaway, PGeo, is the qualified person as defined by National Instrument 43-101 for the Taca Taca project and has reviewed and approved the contents of this news release and the QA/QC data and has visited the project and sampling facilities while drilling was in progress. The 2008 drill campaign on the project was managed on site by Rio Tinto geologists. Drill core was sampled every two metres and logging and sampling were completed at Rio Tinto's secure facility located at the project. The drill cores were sawn in half on site and the samples were securely transported to the Alex Stewart's 9001:2000 certified facilities in Mendoza, Argentina, for sample preparation and analysis. Total copper content was determined by three-acid digestion with atomic absorption finish. Rio Tinto inserted standards, blanks and duplicates selected on a random basis into the sample stream and sent sample pulps from one complete hole to check laboratories in Santiago, Chile.

Taca Taca cha-cha: Rio returns option to Lumina

Vancouver - After drilling six holes Rio Tinto (RTP-N, RIO-L) has passed the buck again on Taca Taca, giving its option on the Argentinean property back to Lumina Copper (LCC-V). And this, as Lumina announced, despite coring almost half a kilometre grading 0.75% copper, 0.025% molybdenum and 0.16 gram gold per tonne in hole 7 starting 228 metres downhole.

"We're happy to get the property back," Lumina president David Strang says. "It just doesn't meet (Rio's) criteria. But it will meet the criteria of others."

He says the company plans to take Rio's drill results, and in conjunction with previous ones, get a NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate out within the next six weeks. A historical resource had pegged Taca Taca at 240 million tonnes grading 0.41% copper.

But Strang says he expects to calculate an inferred resource with higher than historical grades, noting the recent round of Rio's drilling.

"Rio Tinto encountered significantly higher grades than previous drilling," he says.

Apart from the 426 metres encountered in hole 7, Rio also drilled 248 metres in hole 6 grading 0.89% copper, 0.036% moly and 0.11 gram gold starting 316 metres downhole and hole 3 hit 195 metres grading 0.78% copper, 0.030% moly and 0.29 gram gold beginning 292 metres beneath the surface.

On news of the results and the option return, Lumina's share price remained unchanged at $1.25.

Taca Taca has a long history of major dance partners, with a total of 156 holes for about 24,000 metres drilled. Falconbridge started by punching in three holes during the late 1970s. BHP Minerals upped the ante in the late 1990s, pumping in an additional 33, only to pass it on to Corriente Resources (CTQ-V, ETQ-X).

And even Rio had a go of it before its more recent round. In 1999 it put in 9 holes before giving it back to Corriente.

Nearly ten years later, in January of this year, Rio announced its resurgence of interest in the property. It picked the option up again, this time from Lumina (then named Global Copper before Teck Cominco (TCK-T, TCK-N) acquired it and its Relincho property) for a potential exercise price of $80 million.

Rio's drilling – and interest – over, that cheque will no longer be coming.

But Strang still sounds optimistic. With a resource estimate in hand he says Lumina plans on beginning its own drill program in the fourth quarter, subject to the availability of equipment.

"I think the estimate will form a strong basis to start stepping out," he says.

      Lumina's Taca Taca at 841 M t of 0.64% CuEq inferred

      2008-10-09 08:35 ET - News Release

      Mr. David Strang reports

LUMINA COPPER REPORTS A NEW SULPHIDE INFERRED MINERAL RESOURCE ESTIMATE FOR THE TACA TACA COPPER/MOLYBDENUM/GOLD DEPOSIT-841 MILLION TONNES GRADING 0.64% COPPER EQUIVALENT

Lumina Copper Corp. has received an independent, National Instrument 43-101-compliant, sulphide mineral resource estimate for its 100-per-cent-owned Taca Taca copper/molybdenum/gold deposit located in Salta province, Argentina. At a 0.4-per-cent copper equivalent cut-off, the inferred mineral resources estimated at Taca Taca is 841 million tonnes grading 0.64-per-cent copper equivalent, containing 8.71 billion pounds of copper, 2.97 million ounces of gold and 333.7 million pounds of molybdenum.

David Strang, president and chief executive officer, said: "We are extremely pleased with this new mineral resource estimate for Taca Taca which highlights the project as one of the largest undeveloped copper/molybdenum/gold deposits in South America. Of particular interest are the deeper zone of higher grade copper mineralization and central area of enriched copper mineralization that is open to the north and at depth. We intend to initiate a comprehensive drill program during the first quarter of 2009 to further evaluate these areas for resource expansion."

Grades and tonnages from the new inferred resource estimate at various copper equivalent cut-off grades are presented in the table.

INFERRED SULPHIDE MINERAL RESOURCE -- TACA TACA DEPOSIT

      (1) Copper equivalent calculated using $1.50 (U.S.) per pound Cu, $600 (U.S.)
per ounce Au and $9.00 (U.S.) per pound Mo, and is not adjusted for
metallurgical recoveries as these remain uncertain. The formula used is as
follows: CuEQ equals Cu per cent plus (Au g/t multiplied by 0.583) plus
(Mo per cent multiplied by six).

The new mineral resource estimate was based upon a total of 29,503 metres in 167 drill holes drilled by previous operators and includes eight holes (six platforms) drilled by Rio Tinto earlier this year. Model grade estimates are generated with ordinary kriging using a nominal block size measuring 25 metres by 25 metres by 15 metres (vertical). An updated National Instrument 43-101 technical report detailing the new mineral resource estimate will be completed and filed within 45 days.

Additional information on Taca Taca can be found on the company's website and on SEDAR, including the 43-101 report "Amended and Re-stated Taca Taca Technical Report" by Steven Blower, PGeo, and Robert Sim, PGeo; dated July 21, 2008.

Mr. Sim, PGeo, from Norwest Corp. and a qualified person as defined by NI 43-101, is responsible for the mineral resource estimate. Leo Hathaway, PGeo, the qualified person as defined by NI 43-101 for the Taca Taca project, has reviewed and approved the content of this press release.
