Adobe lowers Q4 outlook, to cut 5 pct of jobs
PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct 30 (Reuters) - Publishing software vendor Adobe Systems Inc. (NasdaqNM:ADBE - news) on Tuesday said it would cut 150 jobs, or 5 percent of its work force, and lowered its fourth-quarter revenue and earnings guidance, citing weakening business following the deadly attacks of Sept. 11.
The San Jose, California-based maker of the popular Acrobat document-sharing software said it sees pro forma earnings per share of 20 cents to 22 cents on revenue of $275 million to $285 million.
The company`s previous guidance was for earnings of 27 cents to 28 cents a share on revenue of $310 million to $320 million.
Analysts` current consensus estimate for the quarter ending Nov. 30 was for earnings of 26 cents a share on total revenue of $308.18 million, according to research firm Thomson Financial/First Call.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Reuters) - Publishing software maker Adobe Systems Inc.(NasdaqNM:ADBE - News) on Wednesday made deep cuts in its forecast for its current fiscal third quarter, citing lower than expected sales during July, particularly in Japan and Europe.

San Jose, California-based Adobe now sees revenue for the quarter that will end Aug. 30 at $270 to $290 million, down from its previous forecast of $300 million to $320 million.
As a result, pro forma earnings per share would be 18 cents to 23 cents, compared with the original target of 24 cents to 27 cents made last month.
At that time, the company`s fourth-quarter outlook also called for profits, before items, of 26 cents to 29 cents a share on revenue of $315 million to $345 million.
Adobe plans to report its third quarter fiscal 2002 results on Sept. 12 after the market closes.
