Calypte Announces Second Quarter Financial Results
Company to Accelerate U.S. Studies of Rapid HIV Test
ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--July 24, 2002--Calypte Biomedical Corporation (OTCBB:CALY - News), the developer and marketer of the only two FDA-approved HIV-1 antibody tests that can be used on urine samples, as well as an FDA-approved serum HIV-1 antibody Western Blot supplemental test, today announced financial results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2002.

The net loss attributable to common stockholders for the quarter was $4.96 million, or $0.08 per common share, compared to a net loss of $2.84 million, or $0.10 per common share for the three months ended June 30, 2001. Revenues for the quarter totaled $1.2 million, versus revenues of $1.61 million for the same quarter last year. The loss from operations declined to $2.45 million from $2.62 million for the same quarter in 2001.

For the six months ended June 30, 2002 the net loss attributable to common stockholders was $5.64 million, or $0.11 per common share, compared to a net loss of $6.4 million, or $0.23 per common share for the six months ended June 30, 2001. Revenues for the period totaled $2.36 million, versus revenues of $3.01 million for the same period last year. The loss from operations declined to $4.38 million from $5.66 million for the same period in 2001.

Commenting on the second quarter results, Anthony Cataldo, Calypte`s Executive Chairman, stated, "All things considered, the results generated during the quarter are quite remarkable, especially when you take into consideration that mid-way through the quarter the company announced that it was winding down operations, laying off most of its workforce and contemplating bankruptcy."

Company to Accelerate Development of Rapid Test

Based upon the extremely positive reaction to the company`s presentation of its research on the development of a new rapid urine-screening test for HIV-1 at the recently concluded AIDS 2002 Conference in Barcelona, Calypte will commence U.S. studies, along with international trials, in order to accelerate the approval process for this new test in the U.S. In one of our initial studies, results for this new test yielded 100 percent sensitivity and 100 percent specificity (no false positives and no false negatives).

Nancy Katz, Calypte`s President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, "Without a doubt the Barcelona AIDS Conference was a huge success for the company. Einen Grund scheint es doch zu geben, weiß aber nicht, ob ihr das schon wisst.
Es gibt doch tatsächlich noch ein Konkurrenten namens Orasure, der außerdem noch
mit Abott zusammen arbeitet. Orasure ist ca. 16 mal größer und hat einen FDA-zugelassenen Speicheltest seit längerem im Markt. Angeblich ist der auch noch populärer. Lest selbst:

HIV Testing 101
Part 1 of 2

Note: On November 9, 2001, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued two revised guidelines encouraging health care providers to routinely offer HIV testing more often. We had previously asked Bruce Mirken to write an introduction to HIV testing, including reliability of the tests today, oral HIV tests, rapid HIV tests, anonymous testing, the home test kit (which makes anonymous testing available in all states), and viral load testing to detect HIV in the "window period" before the immune system has produced antibodies, which standard HIV tests detect. -- JSJ

HIV antibody testing has been with us since 1985. Testing technology has evolved considerably over the years, with a variety of new and improved tests coming into use, both in research and daily practice. Since determining one`s HIV status is the first step in treatment decisions, it is important to understand the tests being used today, including their limitations.

The Basic Testing Procedure
"The primary purpose of the test in 1985 was to screen the blood supply," recalls Steve Morin, director of the University of California San Francisco`s AIDS Policy Research Center. At the time there were no treatments available for HIV infection, and no one knew how likely it was that an HIV-infected person would get AIDS or how quickly it might happen. The only medical interventions available dealt with the opportunistic diseases that appeared once the immune system had weakened, so there was no pressing need for people to find out their HIV status.

Still, it was clear that some who believed themselves at risk would want to know.

And that, Morin notes, led to "a fear that people who wanted to know whether they were infected or not would go to donate blood in order to find out." To head off this possible threat to the blood supply, federal and state governments set up alternative test sites, where people could be tested without giving blood. Back then, the main public health value of HIV testing was "as a prevention tool," Morin says, "to counsel people . . . about not transmitting the virus to anyone else."

That changed with the advent of antiretroviral therapy and prophylaxis (preventive treatment) aimed at preventing opportunistic infections. Over time, HIV testing became a gateway to treatment, as well as a prevention tool.

Although there have been technological changes, HIV testing in the U.S. still follows the same basic testing procedure as in 1985: HIV infection is only considered confirmed after two tests have been done, a screening test and a confirmatory test. In a recent article for the University of California San Francisco`s HIV InSite (http://hivinsite.ucsf.edu ), University of Maryland researcher Niel Constantine explains that "screening tests possess a high degree of sensitivity, whereas confirmatory assays have a high specificity. Tests with high sensitivity produce few false-negative results, whereas tests with high specificity produce few false-positive results." Because the screening tests can produce false positives, a second screening test is typically run on the same sample -- in duplicate -- with the confirmatory tests only run on samples that are repeatedly positive ("reactive" in lab parlance).

The combination of the two types of tests produces results that are "highly accurate," Constantine notes, but technical errors are possible, and biological factors can occasionally produce problems.

The most common screening test is the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), sometimes called enzyme immunoassay (EIA). The most often used confirmatory test is the Western blot. Identical technology is used in tests for numerous illnesses, including Lyme disease, Constantine explains. Indeed, the immunological methods underlying these tests are so fundamental that Sally Liska, head of the city of San Francisco`s Public Health Laboratory, calls it "serology 101."

The ELISA is used for initial screening because of both its high sensitivity and its practical advantages. Liska adds: "It`s a lot easier to do many specimens on an ELISA. It`s smaller volume. It`s less handling. It`s more automated."

Over 40 different ELISA HIV test kits are available from various manufacturers, though only a fraction of these are licensed by the FDA -- a requirement if they are to be used in the U.S. (a few tests are approved for research only). These tests use artificial HIV proteins that are able to capture antibodies to the virus. Once those antibodies are caught, Constantine explains, they "can be detected using other reagents that are usually coupled to an indicator such as a dye or enzyme that can produce color." The change in color is read by a machine.

The Western blot is somewhat similar, but uses an electrical field that separates out the various components by their molecular weight. This allows identification of antibodies to specific viral antigens, which show up as identifiable "bands" on a strip of test paper.

The Western blot, Liska says, "is a little more complicated to do . . . It`s more hands-on." Because it is less sensitive, she adds, it "should never be run by itself."

Although the Western blot is the most common confirmatory test, others are sometime used, including the indirect fluorescent antibody assay (IFA) and the radioimmunoprecipitation assay (RIPA). "If performed and interpreted correctly, these extremely specific tests should not produce biologic false-positive results," Constantine writes.

The "Window" Period Just After Infection
One major drawback of antibody tests is the "window" period: the time it takes the body to produce antibodies after infection has begun. The standard tests for HIV do not detect the virus itself, but the antibodies that the body produces in response. During the period before the antibodies are produced, a person can be infected with HIV and can infect others, but still test negative on the HIV antibody test.

For the first tests licensed, this window period ranged from six to 12 weeks, but improved technology has allowed the detection of lower levels of antibodies, making it possible to identify them earlier. "Currently used tests can detect HIV infection between three and five weeks in most individuals," Constantine says. "This is true of just about all of the ELISAs and the rapid tests [discussed further below]. Some tests are a little more consistent in detecting at the three week period, but in general they are all equivalent." To some degree, he explains, "it also depends on the individual (who may not produce antibodies as fast as another)."

Oral HIV Testing
All of the early tests were done on blood. More recently developed tests look for antibodies in oral fluid or urine.

The oral test, which follows the same screening/confirmatory protocol as blood tests, has the advantage of being a noninvasive procedure that can be done in settings where blood draws would be impractical or unsafe. Presently just one brand of oral test, called OraSure, is FDA-approved. It is not a saliva test, but instead uses a small pad to draw fluid from within the gums. These fluids are in fact derived from blood, Constantine explains. "Therefore they include the same fluid (plasma) that is used for testing with serum-based tests."

"We`re not taking fluid that`s already available" in the mouth, Liska notes. "It`s not saliva or spit."

The pad used to draw the fluid is attached to a small handle resembling a toothbrush. It is placed against the gum, where it must remain for at least two full minutes to collect a proper sample.

Because the saliva present in the mouth dilutes the antibodies obtained, oral tests must be able to detect weaker concentrations of antibodies than blood tests. In general oral tests have been found to be just as accurate, but Liska believes "the oral fluid test may not be as sensitive for early seroconverters as the blood test."

Urine HIV Testing
Urine tests exist as well, but have not been as popular as the oral fluid test. This may be because the FDA has not yet approved a confirmatory urine test, so anyone with a positive urine test must return for a confirmatory test.

Rapid HIV Testing
Another innovation has been the development of rapid tests. In conventional tests the sample is collected and sent to a central laboratory for processing, a procedure that usually requires the patient to return a week or more later for the results. Rapid tests (which come in both blood and oral versions) are done on-site and give a reading within half an hour. As with the ELISA, a positive reading on a rapid test requires a second, confirmatory assay such as a Western blot.

An advantage of rapid tests is that they eliminate the problem of testers who don`t return for their results. Non-return rates are fairly low in doctors` offices and anonymous test sites, but can be quite high in other settings, including STD clinics, where as many as one third of patients never come back to get their results.

According to Constantine, rapid tests have "proved to be as accurate as the ELISA when performed carefully by experienced personnel. Technical errors are common with these assays, however, because users become careless with these simple procedures." To deal with this problem, many rapid tests now include a built-in control that indicates whether or not the test was done properly. At present, the FDA has licensed one rapid test, made by Murex Diagnostics.

Part II will include viral load testing for acute (primary) HIV infection, the "detuned ELISA," accuracy of HIV tests today and answers to "denialist" claims they are unreliable, anonymous testing, home testing anonymously, informed consent for testing, and counseling.

Orasure kenne ich. Ist aber keine Konkurenz zu Caly.
So weit ich informiert bin, haben die ein zugelassener
HIV Blut-Test und kein Speichel-Test.
Allerdings ist der Test nicht so 100%-ig wie bei Caly.
Populär war dieser Test nur am Anfang, ist vorbei.

POSITIVE Überraschung bei den Quartalszahlen! Einnahmen 1.2 Mio. USD für das Q2! Das ist wirklich bemerkenswert. Damit liegen die Zahlen in etwa in meinem geschätzten Bereich (Ich bin nach einer Überschlagsrechnung günstigenfalls auf 1,0 - 1,1 Mio. USD gekommen).
Weiterhin: Operationskosten auf 2,45 Mio. USD gesenkt (-7,5%).

Die Gesamtverluste pro Anteil fallen deutlich geringer aus, was aber wohl auf die Erhöhung der Aktienmenge zurück zu führen ist. Die Entwicklung trifft nicht nur auf die Q2-Zahlen, sondern auch auf die 6- und 9-Monatsspanne zu!
Zusätzliche neue News gab es ja erst einmal nicht, kann man bei diesen Zahlen auch erst einmal in der Hinterhand behalten!

Results for Q2 2002 are looking better than expected! Revenues of 1.2 USD for the last quarter, cost of operations reduced by 7.5 % to 2.45 Mio. USD! In regard to an effective production of one third of the last quarter because of the winding down of operations in the first weeks of Q2 these results are very remarkable!!!!!!!!!

Na also ob die Investoren Schlange stehen, das werden wir erst noch sehen. Die kämpfen momentan alle damit Ihre Bilanzen zu korrigieren um selbst nicht ins Fettnäpfchen zu tappen. Aber so 1-2 dicke Brocken könnten schon dabei sein, schließlich ist die Marktkapitalisierung von Caly ein Witz auf diesem Kursniveau.

Hallo! Von welchen 5 Mio. sprichst Du? Meinst Du die 5 Mio., die die Cataldo Investment Group einbringen will (bzw. schon eingebracht hat)?
Keine Ahnung, in der Bilanz tauchen sie jedenfalls so nicht auf. Das Investment beträgt z. Zt. aber auch nur 2.125 Mio. USD. Es kann innerhhalb von 12 Monaten auf 5 Mio. USD aufgestockt werden!
2.125 Mio. USD sind als Schuldscheine mit zwei Jahren Laufzeit ausgelegt, die in nicht frei handelbare Stücke getauscht werden können.
Die Zahl der Aktien, auf die der gegenwärtige Verlust verteilt wird, ist jedoch von 28.4 Mio. auf 62 Mio. gestiegen.
Bei einem Investment von 2.125 Mio. USD und der Differnez der neu hinzu gekommenen Aktien (32,6 Mio) wäre der Ausgabepreis 2.125 Mio. USD/32,6 Mio. = 0,063 USD/share.
Die Investmentbedingung sah einen Maximalpreis von 0,10 USD/share vor, womit der errechnete Wert knapp über der Hälfte liegt.
Nagel mich aber bitte nicht fest, ist nur eine Vermutung, daß hierin die bisherige Investitionssume zu finden ist! Die Investmentbedingungen findest Du in der alten Press Release vom 24. Mai 2002.
Klarheit werden wir haben, wenn die upgedateten Finacials raus sind!

Ich bin an der Börse um Kohle zu machen und wegen nix anderem. Wenn ich denke das eine Aktie besch.... aussichten hat dann kaufe ich sie nicht bzw. rede nicht positiv über sie was aber noch lange nicht heisst das sich meine Meinung nicht ändern kann. Wer nämlich seine Meinung nicht ändert, wird an der Börse wohl kein Erfolg haben weil eine Firma nicht ewig in den Himmel schießt und man irgendwann auch mal verkaufen sollte.....

Section 102 of the Delaware General Corporation Law allows a corporation to eliminate the personal liability of directors of a corporation to the corporation or to any of its stockholders for monetary damage for a breach of his fiduciary duty as a director, except in the case where the director breached his or her duty of loyalty, failed to act in good faith, engaged in intentional misconduct or knowingly violated a law, authorized the payment of a dividend or approved a stock repurchase in violation of Delaware corporate law or obtained an improper personal benefit. Calypte`s Certificate of Incorporation contains a provision that eliminates directors` personal liability as set forth above.

Section 145 of the Delaware General Corporation Law, as amended, provides that a corporation may indemnify any person who was or is a party or is threatened to be made a party

to any threatened, pending or completed action, suit or proceeding, whether civil, criminal, administrative or investigative, by reason of the fact that he or she is or was a director, officer, employee or agent of the corporation or is or was serving at its request in such capacity in another corporation or business associated against expenses(including attorneys` fees), judgments, fines and amounts paid in settlement actually and reasonably incurred by him or her in connection with such action, suit or proceeding if he or she acted in good faith and in a manner he or she reasonably believed to be in or not opposed to the best interests of the corporation and, with respect to any criminal action or proceeding, had no reasonable cause to believe his or her conduct was unlawful.
Article VII of the Company`s Amended and Restated Certificate of Incorporation provides for the indemnification of its directors to the fullest extent permitted by the Delaware General Corporation Law. This provision in the Amended and Restated Certificate of Incorporation does not eliminate the fiduciary duty of the directors, and, in appropriate circumstances, equitable remedies such as injunctive or other forms of non-monetary relief will remain available under Delaware Law. In addition, each director will continue to be subject to liability for breach of the director`s duty of loyalty to the Company for acts or omissions not in good faith or involving intentional misconduct, for knowing violations of law, for actions leading to improper personal benefit to the director and for payment of dividens or approval of stock repurchases or redemptions that are unlawful under Delaware law. The provision does not affect a director`s responsibilities under any other law, such as the federal securities laws or state or federal environmental laws. Article VI of the Company`s Bylaws provides for the indemnification of officers, directors and third parties acting on behalf of the corporation to the full extent permitted by Delaware law.

The Company has entered into Indemnification Agreements with its executive officers and directors. The Indemnification Agreements provide the Company`s officers and directors with further indemnification to the maximum extent permitted by the Delaware General Corporation Law.

CONSULTING AGREEMENT
AGREEMENT, effective as of the 9th day of May, 2002, between Calypte Biomedical Corporation, a Delaware Corporation (the "Company"), of 1265 Harbor Parkway, Alameda, CA 94502, and Peter Benz, 25 Longview, Hillsborough, CA 944010 ("Consultant").

WHEREAS, THE Company desires the Consultant to provide consulting services to the Company pursuant hereto and Consultant is agreeable to providing such services.

NOW THEREFORE, in consideration of the premises and the mutual promises set forth herein, the parties hereto agree as follows:

na ich würde mal darauf tippen, das da noch ein paar Leutchen billig reinwollen. Ein anderer Grund fällt mir gerade nicht ein.

Hmmmmm.... es wird immer mit kleinen Stücken tief ins BID reingeschmissen, das geht aber nur ne weile gut. Wenn der Kaufdruck zu stark wird können es auch die MM`s nicht mehr halten. Die Frage ist nur ob der Kaufdruck morgen auch noch so stark ist wie heute. Das letzte mal hat`s ja 3 Tage angehalten.

Calypte`s Certificate of Incorporation contains a provision that eliminates directors` personal liability as set forth above.

Article VII of the Company`s Amended and Restated Certificate of Incorporation provides for the indemnification of its directors to the fullest extent permitted by the Delaware General Corporation Law. This provision in the Amended and Restated Certificate of Incorporation does not eliminate the fiduciary duty of the directors, and, in appropriate circumstances, equitable remedies such as injunctive or other forms of non-monetary relief will remain available under Delaware Law. In addition, each director will continue to be subject to liability for breach of the director`s duty of loyalty to the Company for acts or omissions not in good faith or involving intentional misconduct, for knowing violations of law, for actions leading to improper personal benefit to the director and for payment of dividens or approval of stock repurchases or redemptions that are unlawful under Delaware law. The provision does not affect a director`s responsibilities under any other law, such as the federal securities laws or state or federal environmental laws. Article VI of the Company`s Bylaws provides for the indemnification of officers, directors and third parties acting on behalf of the corporation to the full extent permitted by Delaware law.

The Company has entered into Indemnification Agreements with its executive officers and directors. The Indemnification Agreements provide the Company`s officers and directors with further indemnification to the maximum extent permitted by the Delaware General Corporation Law.

CONSULTING AGREEMENT
AGREEMENT, effective as of the 9th day of May, 2002, between Calypte Biomedical Corporation, a Delaware Corporation (the "Company"), of 1265 Harbor Parkway, Alameda, CA 94502, and Peter Benz, 25 Longview, Hillsborough, CA 944010 ("Consultant").

WHEREAS, THE Company desires the Consultant to provide consulting services to the Company pursuant hereto and Consultant is agreeable to providing such services.

verliebt schon Lange nicht mehr habe mit Caly nicht getradet obwohl es Sinn gemacht hätte war nur von Anfang
an meine long Investition habe alles platt gemacht und gehe 100 % Risiko weil ich davon Überzeugt bin nach meinem letzten großen Einstieg bei 0,035 das sie es doch noch packen zumal ich X mal meine position hätte verdoppeln können aber aus Steuerlichen gründen nicht getan habe


zum weiteren geschehen des Tages Ihr habt Gesehen
wie der Kurs den ganzen Tag verprügelt wurde von den MM`s und dann die letzt Handelsstunde in nur 30 min Hochgetaxt wurde es ist noch ein Spiel aber es kann nicht mehr lange so gehen sollten wir Morgen ein Handelsvolumen von min 1,5
Mio ereichen vieleicht auch zwei und weiter im ASK
gekaufter Aktien werden wir nächste Woche falls noch weiter News kommen endlich vernünftige Ansteigende Kurse sehen
vieleicht will man uns auch dazu zwingen den reversibelsplitt einzugehen der Aufgrund der News und den Zukunftsaussichten m.M. nach gut wäre um Endlich zur nasdaq zu kommen.

was ich nur schei... finde ist - wenn alle so billig wie heute reinkommen - bei so einem volumen über 3 mio - dann wird auch schnell wieder verkauft wenns mal nach oben geht - ergo der kurs hat keine chance mal zu explodieren weil ständig genügend stücke ins bid geworfen werden -

ich muß ganz ehrlich sagen, wenn diese Aktie 0,35 erreicht hat will ich da von nichts mehr hören und sehen,sonst liegen die Nerven blank, das runter taxen ist nicht mehr normal, habe ich in meiner ganzen Börsenzeit noch bei keiner anderen erlebt. Tja fhr, da würde ich Dir Recht geben, wenn nur eins nicht wäre: Die Chance [b}richtig[/b] dickes Geld zu machen. Ich bin zu 0,16 und 0,17 rein in den Wert, ein paar habe ich damals noch zu 0,58 gekauft. Hätte ich mich bei 0,38 oder ähnlich abgeseilt hätte ich ein Plus von etwa 80% auf meinem Konto verbuchen können. Aber was ist Caly in einem Jahr wert ? Wenn alle so viel von dem Unternehmen und seinem Test halten, wie sie hier posten, dann gibt niemand seine Stücke unter 2 Euro ab. Allerdings muss ich zugeben... Es juckt schon in den Fingern, zu 40 Cent rauszuwerfen und zu 20 wieder einzusteigen. Das bedeutet nämlich, fürs gleiche Geld die doppelte Menge an Aktien zu haben. Dummer- (oder glücklicher-)Weise weiss zur Zeit niemand, wann die nächste Big News kommt, ein Grund, der mich immer davon abgehalten hat, vorschnell zu verkaufen. Wer weiss, ob man nochmal so günstig reinkommt. So betrachte ich nun das auf und ab, aber wie gesagt: Wer von Caly überzeugt ist steigt nicht aus und kauft MCI dafür, nur weils mal etwas schwankt.

kann es sein, daß Du mit ein bisschen zu viel Geld in Caly drinhängst ? Ich würde nie meine Renterversicherung mit Börsenwerten bestreiten. Ein bisschen Jux und Fun mit der Chance auf den Lottogewinn ist ganz schön, aber mehr sollte es nicht sein. Zumindest nicht bei Werten wie Caly. Wenn Du also eventuell die Notbremse ziehen willst, und wenn nur aus nervlichen Gründen: Betrachte nicht nur den Gewinn oder Verlust, den Du bis jetzt erreicht hast (ich persönlich neige dazu, daß zu tun), sondern beachte auch, welchen Wert Deine Papiere zur Zeit noch haben. Wenn Du also 20.000 investiert hast, die im Moment noch 10.000 Wert sind... Wenn Du die 10.000 brauchst, dann verabschiede Dich, bevor daraus 2.000 werden. Brauchst Du sie nicht, dann kannst Du pokern. Was anderes ist das Ganze hier nicht.

ist doch nichts schlimmes passiert, wenn Du auf den Tageschart gucks siehst Du einen konstanten Kurs unter Vortagesniveau, würde ich zzt. nicht überbewerten.
Ich bin auch seit längerem dabei, habe aber 0,4 verkauft und bin zu 0,24 wiede eingestiegen.

Locker bleiben, draussen scheint die Sonne, alles weitere dann am Montag.

jubeln tun hier schon zu viele zu oft....

ich melde mich wann immer ich will zu was ich will.....

bei caly in Summe in den letzten Jahren wohl eher miese gemacht als etwas verdient (mach keine Bilanz, würde eh getürkt sein )auch wenn die letzten käufe weit unter dem heutigen Kurs lagen.

bin im Haifischbecken (OTC) grundsätzlich nicht mit großen Positionen long.
