ACHTUNG, am Diensag könnte eine Gewinnwarnung folgen.
Hallo,
ING falls on slightly lower-than-expected Q3 results
AMSTERDAM (AFX) - Shares in ING Group NV were lower in early trade after the Dutch bancassurer reported third-quarter results that came in slightly below expectations, notably at internet bank ING Direct, dealers said.
At 9.57 am, ING was down 1.3 pct at 34.93 eur while the AEX index was up 0.02 pct at 497.63.
Petercam analyst Ton Gietman found the results 'slightly disappointing.' He pointed out that 'relatively low-quality items such as the tax rate, provisioning, trading profits (on banking activities) support the bottom line, while at the same time interest rates and yield curves --which may have a more enduring effect on the results-- had a negative effect on earnings,' he said.
Gietman said the underlying banking profits of Wholesale and ING Direct were lower than he expected, while Retail Banking did better than expected.
He 'may reconsider' his 'buy' recommendation, noting that the stock 'has performed nicely (but) market conditions remain challenging and make it unlikely that the company will positively surprise.'
Delta Lloyd Securities analyst Carlo Ponfoort agreed Wholesale banking had a 'weak' third quarter due to profit declines in the Netherlands, at general lending and financial markets.
The 175 mln eur result at ING Direct was also below his estimate due to a lower interest margin, with the analyst noting this was the lowest profit at ING Direct in the past five quarters. He kept his 'buy' recommendation.
Rabo Securities analysts agreed the lower-than-expected result was partly due to ING Direct which had some net interest margin pressure due to higher deposit rates in Germany and Spain, while Insurance Europe also fell short of their expectations.
The wholesale banking profit came in above their estimates due to 'good' results in the real estate business and structure product business, but the the value creation of new life productions was 202 mln, below their expected 225 mln. Rabo kept its 40 eur price target and 'buy' recommendation.
