Da steckt also eine gehörige Portion Optimismus drin, aber selbst bei Kursanstiegen in den Bereich USD 8-12, die wir in den kommenden Monaten durchaus dem Titel zutrauen, wären Kurspotenziale zwischen 200 und 350% auszuloten! Klingt abenteuerlich, mit einer kleinen spekulativen Position können Sie diesen heißen Ritt aber wagen, denn in den vergangenen Tagen kamen nun wieder richtig gute News in den Markt, was sich dann auch gleich im Kurs bemerkbar machte:

Mit dem Baylor College of Medicine in Houston ist HEMISPHERX BIO eben bei der Entwicklung von Ampligen in eine Kooperation eingetreten. Diese Einrichtung wird bei der Erforschung von Krebs- und Gen-Therapien mit mehreren Millionen Dollar vom National Health Institut unterstützt. Gestern nun meldete man, dass man Ampligen auf Anfrage der Behörden in Singapur nun auch zur Behandlung der SARS-Infektion testen wird. Zusammen mit dem Genome Institut of Singapore wird man zudem das Medikament Alferon gegen SARS testen.

Gestern schloss der Titel bereits exakt auf Tageshoch 17 1/2% höher bei USD 2.75 (WKN 906 543, Reuters HEB, Kurs aktuell EUR 2.35, Stop-Loss EUR 2)!

Über SARS
Entsprechend der CDC ist strenges akutes Atmungssyndrom (SARS) eine Atmungskrankheit, die vor kurzem in Asien, in Nordamerika und in Europa berichtet worden ist. Wissenschaftler an CDC und an anderen Labors haben ein vorher unerkanntes coronavirus bei Patienten mit SARS ermittelt. Es ist mehr als sieben Wochen jetzt da die Krankheitverbreitung von seinem Geburtsort in Südchina, zum der Welt auf Alarm zu setzen. Dennoch mit mehr als 7296 Fällen, hat 526 Todesfälle in 28 Ländern, plus 63 wahrscheinliche Fälle in den VEREINIGTEN STAATEN, die Krankheit besonders die asiatischen Märkte geschaukelt. Sterblichkeitsrategesamtes sind 15% und übersteigen 50% bei älteren Patienten.

Tiermodelle, die Alferon in SARS auswerten
Das menschliche SARS wird jetzt geglaubt, um an einem Vogel oder Schwein coronavirus zu liegen, das "gesprungen" von einer Tiersorte zu anderen. Mehrfache Virenveränderungen sind das Auftreten wegen der ` Transport-Sorte "Bewegung des Virus. Eine unabhängige Studie, in einer Schweinbevölkerung von nah an 2000 Tieren in Texas, lebend unter typischen field/farm Bedingungen, ist in die Tiere geleitet worden, die mit Alferon®, in den niedrigen Dosen behandelt werden und mit Placebo in Überleben Rate ausgedrückt verglichen sind. Diese Ferkel coronavirus Studien werden kurz beschrieben. Alferon® Kraft
Alferon®, das aus acht Formen hohem gereinigtem Alphainterferon besteht (abgeleitet von den menschlichen weißen Blutzellen) ist in den Laborstudien demonstriert worden, um bis 100mal als recombinant (bakteriell abgeleitetes) Interferon (rIFNs) stärker zu sein-. Demgegenüber bestehen rIFN aus nur einer molekularen Form IFN und ermangeln den notwendigen Zucker oder die Kohlenhydrate, die notwendig sind, menschliche Antikörperanordnung zu vermeiden. Antikörperanordnung kann den klinischen Nutzen von IFN. SARS zerstören sollte gelten als eine mögliche Anzeige für Alferon®, das in einem experimentellen Stadium der Entwicklung für diese Störung ist und das eine kommerzielle Zustimmung in Singapur und in anderen Bereichen von Asien für eine spezifische STD Kategorie hat, einschließlich der refraktären Verletzungen, die durch HPV Virus verursacht werden.

Ampligen® und VEREINIGTE STAATEN Regierung förderten fortwährende Studien mit SARS
Ampligen® ist eine experimentelle, doppelte angeschwemmte als ein immunomodulator möglicherweise dienende und Antiviren RNS-Droge. "double stranded DNA" = "doppelt angeschwemmte DNA". Nett.
Drogen werden vielleicht mal an Floridas Küste angeschwemmt - aber bestimmt kein Ampligen.....

Das sind ja reichlich Informationen über die einzelnen Medikamente und deren Einsatzgebiete und Wirkung. Aber leider weis ich nun immer noch nicht, wie lange in der Regel so ein Genehmigungsverfahren dauert, und danach würde mich natürlich auch noch interessieren, wie lange es dauert damit Geld zu verdienen?
Hat dazu irgnedjemand Erfahrungswerte aus anderen Firmen oder auch mit HEB? Wobei letztere ja nunmehr überreif sind, um mit ihren Produkten in den Markt zu gehen. Geforscht wird ja nun schon seit 1979 oder so.

(AMEX: HEB - News) reports the results of a "double-blinded" independent study conducted in a pig population suffering from the pig coronavirus, after therapeutic intervention with one of the Company`s lead Products, Alferon N. Newborn piglets, treated with Alferon N, even in low doses, had significantly greater survival rates than placebo-treated, control, piglets.

Recent tests, May 14, 2003, at the Erasmus Medical Center, Amsterdam, confirm "the proof that a coronavirus is the primary cause of the disease" (human SARS) by fulfilling Koch`s Postulates thru the serial steps of coronavirus isolation (from man), reintroduction of virus and recreation of disease in macaque monkeys.

About SARS Models in Animals

Since human SARS apparently has its roots in animal coronavirus, the Company believes that the drug`s effect in the animal study may be relevant to potential human applicability. However, further independent investigation is required to evaluate safety and efficacy in humans. In man, mortality with SARS can exceed 50% in certain age groups.

About the Clinical Study in Farm Animals

Transmissible coronavirus is a devastating disease in piglets, especially in high-density living facilities, and can result in high mortality, even approaching 100% mortality in piglets less than 14 days of age. The Study was conducted in a piglet population of 1740 animals in Texas, U.S.A., living under typical field/farm conditions. During a natural outbreak of Pig Coronavirus, groups of piglets were treated for 4 consecutive days with placebo or 1.0, 10.0 or 20.0 international units of Alferon N. Survival data were analyzed by age of treatment and dosage. All dosages of Alferon N improved survival rates (p (less than) 0.01) and certain groups (higher dosage) had very significantly greater (p (less than) 0.001) survival rate of 94.6% (p (less than) 0.001 means that the probability of the results being by chance alone is less than 1 in 1000). Thus, Alferon N therapy modulates the natural course of otherwise very high morbidity and mortality commonly seen with Pig Coronavirus infections. In contrast, vaccination of pigs still results in unacceptable high death rates, suggesting that natural alpha interferon, such as Alferon, may be a superior treatment approach to nature porcine coronavirus outbreaks.

Background to the Study

The independent clinical study in piglets was performed by researchers in Amarillo, Texas, A&M Diagnostic Laboratory, DeKalb Swine Breeders, Inc. and Department of Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine at the Ohio State University. Alferon N was provided and the study was performed several years before the present SARS outbreak and knowledge that porcine or avian coronavirus may "jump" across animal species to man. Other studies have independently collaborated the antiviral benefit of human leukocyte interferon in lower animal species (1994-2003) on viruses other than porcine coronaviruses.

SARS: Newly NIH Sponsored Studies of Potential Therapies for SARS Now Finds Hemispherx` Ampligen among the Most Active from a Large Pool of 70 -Seventy- Drug Candidates

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 2003--Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (AMEX: HEB - News) announced today that the Institute for Antiviral Research, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIAID, Virology Branch, Contract No. 1-AI-85348) have just reported a comprehensive new study which screened many test compounds for potential therapy against SARS.

The results of the study entitled "Potential therapies for SARS: Inhibitors of Human Coronavirus Strain OC43 by Antiviral Agents" have identified Ampligen®, a flagship investigational immunotherapeutic of the Company, as having unusually high and consistent antiviral activity against human coronavirus.

About the Assay Method

Human coronavirus (strain OC43) in different amounts was grown in African green monkey kidney cells and thereafter potential antiviral therapies ("the test compounds") were added. Each of the approximately 70 new drug candidates for SARS were introduced to determine levels of possible reduction in virus growth (called "virus yield reduction assay"). Thereafter, these drugs were ranked by their relative ability to inhibit virus and for their ability to protect the target cells from death or severe damage.

About the Compounds Screened for Inhibiting Human Coronavirus

A. "Traditional" Antivirals

An unusual broad array of candidates was selected including many new drugs, submitted by various drug manufacturers, to NIH for screening (18 cpds), also many nucleoside analogues (21 cpds) known to be potentially active against HBV, HIV, herpes, etc.; marketed (FDA approved) antivirals, including ribavirin (for RSV, respiratory syncytal virus) and related compounds (5 cpds); formycin analogs and polyoxometalates and dendrimers and 5 non carbocyclic adenosine analogues (totaling 11 new cpds); new apoptosis inhibitors and new cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors (6 cpds) as well as adenosine kinase inhibitors (3 cpds); plus miscellaneous phospolipase, attachment / penetration and bunga virus inhibitors, plus cyclohexamide and a coumadin analog (totaling 7 cpds). In total, these compounds represent multiple mechanisms of action designed to stop the human coronavirus at virtually every step of its multiplication within cells.

B. Immune Modulators and Interferons

Human Interferon gamma (recombinant) from Interimmune Corp. and Interferon - alpha consensus (recombinant, Intergen) from Amgen Corp. were also evaluated both alone and in combination. Both are FDA approved products widely used for the treatment of chronic granulomatous disease of lungs and hepatitis C, respectively. Ampligen®, an experimental immunotherapeutic in Phase 3 clinical testing, was provided by the Company under a research collaboration agreement with the NIH. A structurally related compound, termed PolyIC:LC, developed by the NIH scientists and widely available in the Republic of China as a potential broad-spectrum antiviral, was also tested.

About the Results

As compared to all therapeutic products tested, Ampligen ranked with the highest antiviral activity.

Ampligen® was the most consistently active compound tested in the various assay methods used. A structurally related dsRNA compound, poly IC:LC, presently available in China, was not demonstrated to have any significant activity against human coronavirus.

Similarly, ribavirin, which has been widely reported in the media to have been used in the SARS epidemic in Asia (alone or in combination with steroids), was also devoid of significant viral inhibitory activity.

In contrast, Ampligen® demonstrated very high potency at low concentrations (0.4 micrograms per milliliter) and had a favorable safety profile (the ratio of concentration to damage normal cells relative to that necessary to stop viral growth). Only 1 compound, termed iodotubercidin, demonstrated similar potency, however, the results with this compound were very inconsistent within the multiple assay systems of viral inhibition, suggesting that it may provide unpredictable antiviral benefits, in contrast to Ampligen®.

Relative Potency within the Immune Modulator Class: Ampligen(R)
surpassed Recombinant IFN

Both recombinant interferons given alone, provided less antiviral protection than Ampligen (greater than 50%) with the trademarked Intergen (Amgen Corp., originally selected for its high potency) providing only 28% protection and interferon gamma, trademarked Actimune, providing only 18% protection. In fact, to achieve antiviral protection against human coronavirus similar to Ampligen® alone, it was necessary to combine these two different recombinant IFNs, thereby achieving 52% antiviral protection. Except as occurs in the natural antiviral cocktail of alpha interferon, termed Alferon and owned by Hemispherx, the combination of two or more IFNs (recombinant) has been generally deemed too potentially toxic to justify human exposure.

dein Posting #21. Diese Nachricht war aber nicht nachbörslich, die kam während der normalen amerikanischen Börsenzeit und sorgte für heftige Kursbewegung. Wie wir aber festgestellt haben, hat der Kurs zum Schluß dann aber 2 Cent unterm Vortagesniveau abgeschlossen. Das heißt für mich lediglich, daß die Amis da nichts extrem Kursrelevantes drin sehen. Wir müssen wohl noch auf eine Zulassung durch die FDA warten und auf die entsprechenden Vermarktungsverträge.

1. Das was gestren und vorgestern an NEWS kam war nichts, aber auch garnichts schlechtes! Die Shorties haben das unterschätzt was da kommt...SIE MÜSSEN DEN KURS DRÜCKEN!

Denn wenn die Meldung kommt wegen SARS bzw. das sie die erfolgreiche Testphase durchlaufen haben...und lt. gestriger Meldung sind 70 Medikamente im Test und HEMI´s Produkt mischt vorn mir bzw. hat aktl. die beste Antivirenwirkung...dann knallt das ding durch die Decke...

auf Sicht von 6 Monaten...sind 8-10 USD DAS MINIMUM...länger auch 25 USD realistisch...das würde beschleunigt wenn Apligen...DURCHSCHLÄGT...geschätztes Marktpot. bei rd. 1,2 MILLARDEN DOLLAR...

Auch gemeldet wurde das ALFERON jetzt in grösseren Mengen hergestellt wird aufgrund der Nachfrage....d. h. mehr UMSATZ...usw.

Das massive Shortinterest hat bei HEB schon Tradition. Die Frage ist: Wissen die Shortseller mehr oder wird einfach ins Blaue spekuliert? Das Misstrauen gegenüber HEB ist immer noch
sehr groß, anders kann der enttäuschende Kursverlauf trotz vieler sehr guter News nicht erklärt werden - man sieht ja bei
Viragen, die bei eigentlich weniger bedeutenderen News explodiert sind (auch wenn es sich wohl nur um ein Strohfeuer handelt!?).

Es bleibt also die Frage: Haben die Shorties Recht? Immerhin wurde früher von Ascensio fälschlicherweise behauptet, es gibt gar kein Produkt, oder es wäre toxisch etc. Wer mal ein bischen googelt und auf "medizinischen" Webseiten stöbert wird sehen, dass Ampligen in der Tat ein Hoffnungsträger ist und keinesfalls ein "Phantasieprodukt" ist.

Wie dem auch sei, ich denke es wird noch ein bischen dauern bis der Durchbruch gelingt. Dank weltweiter Patente (über 300) und Vorsprung in der Wirksamkeit der Präparate gegenüber der Konkurrenz sollte das Risiko recht gering sein. Kurzfristig ist alles vage, langfristig sind die Chancen m.M. nach sehr gut.

1. Kann ein Kurs allein durch Short-Eindeckungen so stark fallen?
2. Hat Du weitere News aussen denen, die ich in der NASDAQ Homepage gelesen habe oder warum bist Du so sicher, dass der Kurs durch die Decke knallen wird?
3. Wie genau funktioniert das mit dem Shorten; weiss nur Ungefähres und würde mich über eine kurze und klare Erklärung freuen.

Das unten aufgeführte habe ich gefunden und verstanden, aber wo kann ich shorten? Über jeden Broker?
Glaubst Du da kauft einer mit der Hälfte, steigt im Hype aus und shortet dann wie irre, um den Kurs runterzubekommen, gleichzeitig billig einzusammeln und dann schnell raus mit den Shorts, bevor der nächste Boom kommt.
Dieses Spiel wird viel arme unwissende Aktionäre in den Ruin stürzen.

Wie hoch schätzt Du die Möglichkeit, dass Hemisp. wieder bald steigt?
Werden auch Nachrichten und Präsentationa auf der ASCO in Chicago erwartet?

Long/Short Equity

Die Long/Short Equity ist die ursprüngliche Strategie eines Hedge-Fonds. Bei dieser Strategie werden auf der einen Seite unterbewertete Aktien gekauft. Auf der anderen Seite werden überbewertete Aktien durch Eingehen von Short-Future-Positionen und Leerverkäufe verkauft. Gehen die Aktienkurse der leer verkauften bzw. mit Short-Future-Positionen versehenen Aktien tatsächlich zurück, so bietet sich dem Hedge-Fonds die Möglichkeit, die verkauften Aktien günstiger zurückzukaufen (bzw. die Future-Position zu schließen). Ich weiss nicht was falsch ist an Definition...aber irgendwas, ist!

Meines Erachtens gehen die aktl. auf volles Risiko....und der Kurs steht eigentlich nach diesen Meldungen, einfach gesagt, falsch!

Da der SI beträchtlich gestiegen ist...gehe ich von aus, daß die Shortýs...in Problemen sind. Denn aufgrund der Meldungen, dürfte der Kurs eigentlich nicht einbrechen. Nun gibt es Platz für Spekulationen...

1. so werden viele denken....WOW..die NEWS sind gut, aber der Kurs sinkt, dann Insiderwissen???

2. also steigen alle aus....weil sie denken des andere mehr wissen....

3. ...und das gibt dem Shorty Platz sich einzudecken ohne den Kurs zu treiben.... das VOL ist beträchtlich angezogen in den letzten Tagen....besser kann es ein Shorty nicht haben...

4. FAKT IS DES NEWS IN DER PIPE SIND und DER TIMEFRAME FÜR DEN SHORTY SEHR ENG IST....er hat rd. 10 Tage bei VOL...120.000 ...sinkt das VOL wieder und keiner verkauft...ändert sich das!

Amex Biotech Index - Was passiert denn da?!


Schafft der Biotechsektor die TRENDWENDE? In den letzten Wochen ist der Amex Biotech Index in eine Ausbruchbewegung übergegangen.

Amex Biotech Index

Kursstand : 433 Punkte

Langfristiger Wochenchart mit Darstellung des ersten Kurshypes von 1999-2000 und dem anschließenden mehrjährigen Bärenmarkt 2000-2003.

Unter den US Indizes entpuppt sich der Amex Biotech Index in den letzten Wochen als einer der technischen Outperformer.

Der Index ist im mittelfristigen Zeitfenster extrem volatil. Daran erkennt man in Zügen die hohe Entwicklungsdynamik, die hinter der Nachrichtenlage des Biotechsektors steht. Phasen großen Fortschritts und von Stagnation wechseln sich relativ schnell ab. Im Biotechsektor ist die nachrichtentechnische Lage für mittelfristige Kursbewegungen enorm wichtig. Im Biotech-Experten ( http://www.biotech-experte.de ) erhalten Sie täglich die entscheidenden Informationen und Daten zum Biotech- und Pharmasektor weltweit und sind somit jederzeit uptodate bzgl. der Nachrichtenlage.

Die erste Phase des Bärenmarktes verlief von 2000-2002 in Form eines großen hohen symmetrischen Dreiecks (A). Übergeordnet bildete sich ein Abwärtstrend heraus. Aufgrund der hohen Volatilität wechselten sich in diesem Abwärtstrend mittelfristige Kursanstiegs- und Kursverfallsphasen einander ab.

Im April 2002 brach der Kurs crashartig regelkonform aus diesem Dreieck (A) nach unten aus. Der Key Support bei 380 Punkten wurde nach kurzer Gegenreaktion ebenfalls nach unten durchschlagen. Das charttechnische Kursziel aus dem großen symmetrischen Dreieck wurde allerdings noch nicht erreicht! Das bisherige Bärenmarkt-Tief liegt bei 275 Punkten und wurde am 11.07.02 ausgebildet; und zwar im Bereich einer wichtigen mehrjährigen "inneren" Aufwärtstrendlinie. Der mehrjährige Abwärtstrend seit 2000 war Mitte 2002 auf die mehrjährige "innere" Aufwärtstrendlinie aufgetroffen. Im Kräftespiel zwischen Bulle und Bär, standen sich also der mittelfristige Bär und der langfristige Bulle Mitte 2002 direkt gegenüber. Der Spielraum zwischen beiden gegensätzlichen Marktparteien war immer kleiner geworden. Eine Entscheidung mußte forciert werden.

April bis Ende 2002 bildete sich nun eine 2. symmetrische Dreiecksformation (B) aus; und zwar auf eben dieser langfristigen "inneren" Aufwärtstrendlinie.

3 Versuche des langfristigen Bullen über das Widerstandscluster bei 380 Punkten auszubrechen, wurden abgeblockt. Auf der anderen Seite konnte der langfristige Bulle in Form der besagten "inneren" Aufwärtstrendlinie den weiteren Kursverfall nach unten aufhalten. Das symmetrische Dreieck (B) ist eigentlich Abwärtstrend bestätigend im Sinne des mittelfristigen Bären einzuordnen. Stattdessen brach der Amex Biotech Index aber im April 2003 insbesondere durch eine plötzlich sich aufhellende nachrichtentechnische Lage regelwidrig nach oben aus dem Dreieck (B) aus. Der langfristige Bulle setzte sich also gegen den mittelfristigen Bären zunächst durch. Das ist allerdings nicht ungewöhnlich. Die Marktteilnehmer versuchen langfristige übergeordnete Aufwärtstrendlinien zu halten. So geschehen während der letzten 2-3 Jahre auch im Nasdaq, wobei letzterer eine ganze Reihe von Aufwärtstrendlinien in der Endkonsequenz aufgeben mußte.

Das entstandene positive Kursmomentum der letzten Wochen, das sich im Amex Biotech Index entwickelt hat, ist ungeheuer stark. Der Widerstand bei 380 Punkten konnte nach oben gebrochen werden, ebenso ein starker Kreuzwiderstand bei 410 Punkten. Eine der beiden dominanten mehrjährigen Abwärtstrendlinien verläuft im Bereich von 410 Punkten.

In den kommenden Tagen bzw. Wochen dürfte der Index bis in den Bereich von 456 Punkten vordringen können, wo erneut ein starker charttechnischer Kreuzwiderstand lokalisiert ist.

Der mehrjährige übergeordnete Abwärtstrend wird attackiert.

Wichtig für die weitere kurz/mittelfristige Ausrichtung des Index ist die Auswertung und Einschätzung der entstehenden Konsolidierungssequenzen, die sich in den aktuell laufenden Kursanstieg einbetten sowie die nächsten prominenten Zwischenhochs und -tiefs. Es wird sich zeigen, ob sich der langfristige Bulle in Form der Aufwärtstrendlinie gegen den mittelfristigen Bullen in Form mehrerer dominanter Abwärtstrendlinien, durchsetzen kann. Wenn sich der mittelfristige Bär durchsetzen sollte, wäre der Kursanstieg der letzten Wochen nur im Sinne eines Fehlausbruchs aus dem symmetrischen Dreieck zu interpretieren. Der übergeordnete Abwärtstrend würde anschließend wieder aufgenommen werden. Sollte sich hingegen der langfristige Bulle im Amex Biotech Index durchsetzen, ist der Ausbruch aus dem symmetrischen Dreieck als Basis eines größeren mittelfristigen Bodenbildungsprozesses zu werten. Das charttechnische Kursziel eines regulären vollständigen Ausbruchs aus Dreieck (B) auf mittelfristige Sicht würde bei ca. 500 Punkten liegen.

Zunächst einmal ergeben sich im Rahmen des bullishen und bearishen Scenarios kurzfristige Zielzonen bei 440 und dann bei 456 Punkten.

Solche Kursverlaufsphasen, wie in den letzten Monaten, sind aus charttechnischer Sicht nahezu lebensentscheidend für einen Basiswert. Die Aufgabe langfristiger Aufwärtstrendlinien ist deutlich bearish zu werten. Institutionelle und Fonds, die stark im Biotechsektor investiert sind, dürften deshalb nochmals ihr gesamtes Gewicht in die Waagschale werfen, um den Aufwärtstrend zu verteidigen. Ohne Rückendeckung der fundamentalen Lage des Sektors müßte mit einem eher geringen Einsatz der bullishen Marktteilnehmer gerechnet werden. Zufälligerweise (?) gab es in den letzten Wochen aus dem Biotechsektor tatsächlich eine ganze Serie guter teilweise sogar bahnbrechender Nachrichtenmeldungen.

sieht wirklich prima aus. Stochastik, Momentum und RSI lassen durchaus die These zu, dass das Jahres-ATH wieder in Angriff genommen werden kann.

Leider steht das Umsatz-Potenzial bislang nur auf Papier. Selbst nach zügiger Patentierung ist die Finanzierung und Umsetzung der Vermarktung immer das Hauptproblem.

Als Beispiel sei hier LAMP erwähnt, wo auf Grund der Umsatzprognosen für 2003 ein Kurs im Bereich von 5-6 $ eigentlich nur logisch erschien. Fehlen leider z.Z. ein paar Prozent.

Das ganze liest sich ja nicht besonders positiv für die HEB-Aktie.
Meine Meinung dazu ist, daß in 1998 irgendeiner sich Hoffnung gemacht hat, daß das Medikament Ampligen direkt nach Beendigung der 1. Phase eine Zulassung zur Vermarktung dieses Medikamentes bekommt.
Fakt ist aber, daß alle neuen Medikamente, 4 Phasen durchlaufen müssen und jede Phase halt eine längere Zeit in Anspruch nimmt. Bei HEB sehe ich im Moment nur die 3. Phase als kurz vor Beendigung. Mit etwas Glück und der derzeitigen Situation mit der recht gefährlichen Krankheit SARS (die jetzt leider schon bis nach Kanada ausgebrochen ist) kann es beim positiven Ergebniss der Phase 3 passieren, daß tatsächlich eine direkte Zulassung zur Vermarktung erteilt wird. Dieser Umstand würde dann tatsächlich zu einem recht schnellen und Nachhaltigen Kurssprung nach oben führen.
Es ist aber immer ein Risiko auf eine Firma zu setzen die noch nicht alle Phasen durchlaufen hat. Aber auf der anderen Seite sieht es halt auch so aus, daß wenn alle Phasen durchlaufen sind und die Ergbnisse schon im positiven Sinne bekannt sind, haben wir bestimmt auch nicht mehr die Chance diesen Kurssprung in unsere eigenen Taschen zu erwirtschaften. Dies sind für mich Gründe das für und wieder, für einen direkten Einstieg in dieses Investment abzuwägen und dann mit meiner Ureigenen Risikobereitschaft (Notfalls auch noch 1 Jahr warten zu können) entweder zu investieren oder es zu lassen.
Mein Investment ist auf jeden Fall für den Moment gemacht und mit etwas Glück kann ich noch in diesem Jahr ein paar fette Gewinne einfahren.

W.O. zeigt so gut wie nie den richtigen Schlußkurs von der Amex an. Auch das in W.O. angezeigte Volumen stimmt nicht.
Der tatsächliche Schlußkurs von gestern: 2,64$ und das Volumen ist 85.600 Stück.

Die Zulassung wird bestimmt bald kommen. Ich bin nur mal gespannt ob dann auch noch die Abschlußphase durchlaufen werden muß oder ob das Medikament direkt für SARS angewendet werden kann?

Bin echt mal gespannt, was es diesem Monat so an News von Heb gibt und vor allem ob das Produkt direkt auf den Markt kommen kann, ohne die abschließende 4. Phase voll durchlaufen zu müssen.
Der Schlußkurs am Freitag in Amiland war auf jeden Fall schon einmal recht vielversprechend.

Rückblick - Biotech Highlights der Woche
Aufwärtstrend trotz vereinzelter Rückschläge intakt



Mit einer gigantischen Performance kann der US-Biotechsektor schon seit Beginn des Jahres aufwarten, auch in der vergangenen Woche schlossen die Indizes wieder mit deutlichen Pluszeichen. Eine Vielzahl positiver Unternehmensmeldungen und die Vorfreude auf das jährliche Treffen der American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Chicago sorgten auch zum Wochenende für Indexgewinne. Der Amex Biotechindex zog im Vergleich zur Vorwoche um 3,8 Prozent an, der Nasdaq Biotechindex gewann mit plus 7 Prozent sogar noch deutlicher. Seit Anfang des Jahres kletterte der Amex Biotechindex bisher um satte 32 Prozent, der Nasdaq Biotechindex konnte mit plus 36 Prozent sogar noch besser performen. Gegenwärtig sieht es sogar so aus, als wenn das Ganze noch etwas weitergehen könnte, denn neben dem ASCO Meeting stehen noch weitere Zulassungsentscheidungen der FDA an, die die Kurse noch weiter nach oben treiben könnten. Vorsicht ist allerdings geboten, da der Sektor in den letzten Wochen schon ziemlich gut gelaufen ist und temporäre Rückschläge nichts ungewöhnliches wären.



Nach einem Bank Holiday am Montag konnten die US-Biotechindizes am vergangenen Dienstag ein neues 52-Wochenhoch erklimmen. Für das dicke Plus von 5,4 Prozent bei beiden Indizes sorgten u.a. Icos, dessen Kurs um 13,6 Prozent anzog, und Nektar, das mit einem Aufschlag von 13,4 Prozent aufwarten konnte. Hemispherx gewann 16 Prozent im regulären Handel und 8,3 Prozent in der Nachbörse. Während Nektar von einer Investorenkonferenz profitieren konnte, spekuliert man bei Icos auf die baldige Tagung des FDA-Beratergremiums bezüglich des Potenzpräparates Cialis. Die Aktie von Hemispherx war auf Grund der Überstellung eines Patentantrags für einen möglichen Einsatz seiner Produkte Alferon N Injection und Ampligen bei SARS (schweres akutes respiratorisches Syndrom) gefragt.



Mit Abschlägen von 1,9 Prozent im Amex und 0,7 Prozent im Nasdaq Biotechindex war rot die dominierende Farbe am Mittwoch. Nach den gigantischen Kursgewinnen in der Vorwoche (rund 66 Prozent) musste auch Genentech am Mittwoch Federn lassen. Das Minus hielt sich mit 1,5 Prozent allerdings in Grenzen. Einer der größten Gewinner war hingegen das kleine Unternehmen VaxGen, das von der FDA die Genehmigung zur Überprüfung seiner experimentellen Anthrax Vakzine am Menschen erhalten hatte und daraufhin einen gigantischen Kurssprung von 68 Prozent verzeichnen konnte. Eine ähnliche Meldung ließ auch die Medarex-Aktie um 5,4 Prozent anziehen. Medarex will einen Antikörper gegen Anthrax zur Marktreife führen, erste präklinische Daten sprechen bereits für die Wirksamkeit des Produktes.



Auch am Donnerstag herrschte überwiegend Verkaufsdruck in der Biotechbranche, Nasdaq und Amex Biotechindex verloren bis zum Börsenschluss 0,7 Prozent und 2,2 Prozent. Eine Abstufung von Matt Geller, Analyst bei CIBC World Markets, für Genentech von "sector outperformer" auf "sector performer" sollte wohl für eine Abkühlung des überhitzten Aktienkurses sorgen. Genentech verlor daraufhin 4 Prozent. Abwartende Stimmung sah man bei Icos und brachte der Aktie bis zum Handelsschluss ein Minus von 6 Prozent ein. Grund, das nach Börsenschluss anstehende Votum eines FDA-Beratergremiums für das Cialis Konkurrenzprodukt Levitra, eine Gemeinschaftsentwicklung von Bayer und GlaxoSmithKline. Gegen den Trend lief die Aktie von Allos Therapeutics, die ein gigantisches Plus von 61 Prozent erzielen konnte, nachdem das Unternehmen die baldige Überstellung des Zulassungsantrages für seinen experimentellen Antikrebswirkstoff RSR13 bekannt gegeben hatte.



Für Euphorie unter den Biotechinvestoren sorgte am Freitag das anstehende ASCO Meeting und im Besonderen das Unternehmen ImClone. Mit einem Plus von je 2,6 Prozent verabschiedeten sich Amex als auch Nasdaq Biotechindex ins Wochenende. Mit einem Aufschlag von 22 Prozent hieß der große Tagesgewinner allerdings ImClone. Laut eines Berichts im Wall Street Journal spricht einiges für das gute Abschneiden von Erbitux in den jüngsten Studien. Und wie die entgültigen Daten, die vom deutschen Partner Merck auf dem ASCO Meeting präsentiert wurden, zeigen, besitzt Erbitux tatsächlich die gewünschte Wirksamkeit. Weitere ASCO-Profiteure waren am Freitag Osi Pharmaceuticals, Millennium und Dendreon. Osi wird Daten seines Hoffnungsträgers Tarceva vorstellen die Aktie gewann bis zum Handelsschluss 2,7 Prozent. Auch Millennium lag mit plus 7 Prozent unter den vielen ASCO-Profiteuren. Bei Dendreon hoffen die Investoren auf die erste potenzielle Prostatavakzine, Phase III Daten auf dem ASCO Meeting sollen die Wirksamkeit bestätigen. Die Aktie ging mit einem Aufschlag von 4,7 Prozent aus dem Handel. Noch bis zum 03.06.2003 werden Unternehmen ihre Daten auf dem ASCO Meeting präsentieren und mit ermutigenden Daten hoffentlich noch für stattliche Kursgewinne sorgen. Die nächste Woche dürfte im Biotechsektor also wieder spannend werden.

Clinical Study of Relative Safety Profiles of Natural IFN Over Recombinant IFN Suggests Less Drug Induced Morbidity

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 2003--Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (AMEX: HEB - News) announced today that it has unveiled previously undisclosed human volunteer data during its presentation at the "Anti-SARS Forum", held at the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday June 1, 2003.

The comparative clinical safety study compares the side effects of its lead compound, Alferon N Injection®, a highly purified, natural source, multispecies alpha interferon product, derived from human white blood cells, with recombinant, bacteria derived, interferon (rIFN), Intron® A. The two products were compared at equivalent biologically active amounts.

Study Design

A comparative safety study of Alferon N Injection®, natural alpha interferon, and Intron® A, recombinant interferon, was performed in healthy volunteers. The study was double-blinded with 14 individuals randomized to receive Intron® A while 15 received Alferon N Injection®. The patient population was normal volunteers ages 18-50 with no prior interferon treatment and no evidence of a viral disease during the last 4 weeks. The treatment consisted of 5 million units of Alferon N Injection® or Intron® A five times per week for two weeks. The objective was to evaluate the occurrence and severity of adverse reactions. The study was conducted by an independent Clinical Research Organization ("CRO").

Results of Comparative Safety Study

The incidence of body chills was significantly lower in the volunteers receiving the natural Alferon N Injection®. Only 1 individual (7%) treated with Alferon N experienced chills compared to 11 individuals (79%) treated with Intron® A. The difference (p(less than)0.001) was highly statistically significant. The incidence of fever (fever(greater than)100 degrees F) was also significantly lower in the volunteers receiving Alferon N Injection®. Only 2 subjects (13%) receiving Alferon experienced fever over 100 degrees F during the two week test as compared to 9 subjects (64%) treated with Intron® A . The difference (p=0.007) was highly significant statistically.

Molecular Pathogenesis of SARS

The molecular pathogenesis of SARS is not yet fully elucidated. However, in certain virulent and very aggressive viral infections (e.g., smallpox) the body`s IFN system is overwhelmed by viral specific products which kill or inactivate the body defenses. One possible therapeutic approach is to replace the body`s IFN molecules which have, in effect, been killed by the incoming, virulent, viral attack. Obviously, the potency and safety profile of the "replacement" IFNs may become of paramount importance in these possible treatment scenarios.

Potency studies: independent studies, performed at Walter Reed Army Medical Facility, on another virus (HIV) on a blind basis have shown Alferon N to be up to 100-fold more effective than equal concentrations of two different recombinant IFNs for inhibition of virus replication in primary human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Volunteer and/or animal experimentation and/or lab tests do not necessarily predict efficacy and safety in the actual clinical disease category which can only be reliably shown by well-controlled clinical tests in the disease itself.

Possible significance to SARS

SARS is an acute life threatening illness associated with high fever, chills and generalized weakness. Many patients require artificial ventilation support to increase their chances of survival. Typically the physiological stress is so great that blood oxygen levels fall and 20 to 50% of the infected patients die within a few days or weeks.

Amplification / Augmentation of IFN Antiviral Action.

Data presented at the SARS Symposium also demonstrate how the experimental immunotherapeutic, Ampligen®, can potentially override a virus-induced IFN "blockade". In addition, in some model cell-virus systems, Ampligen® can by-pass the blockade altogether by a process called "allosteric activation".

Only 1 individual (7%) treated with Alferon N experienced chills compared to 11 individuals (79%) treated with Intron(R) A. The difference (p(less than)0.001) was highly statistically significant. The incidence of fever (fever(greater than)100 degrees F) was also significantly lower in the volunteers receiving Alferon N Injection(R). Only 2 subjects (13%) receiving Alferon experienced fever over 100 degrees F during the two week test as compared to 9 subjects (64%) treated with Intron(R) A . The difference (p=0.007) was highly significant statistically.

Molecular Pathogenesis of SARS

The molecular pathogenesis of SARS is not yet fully elucidated. However, in certain virulent and very aggressive viral infections (e.g., smallpox) the body`s IFN system is overwhelmed by viral specific products which kill or inactivate the body defenses. One possible therapeutic approach is to replace the body`s IFN molecules which have, in effect, been killed by the incoming, virulent, viral attack. Obviously, the potency and safety profile of the "replacement" IFNs may become of paramount importance in these possible treatment scenarios.

Potency studies: independent studies, performed at Walter Reed Army Medical Facility, on another virus (HIV) on a blind basis have shown Alferon N to be up to 100-fold more effective than equal concentrations of two different recombinant IFNs for inhibition of virus replication in primary human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Possible significance to SARS

SARS is an acute life threatening illness associated with high fever, chills and generalized weakness. Many patients require artificial ventilation support to increase their chances of survival. Typically the physiological stress is so great that blood oxygen levels fall and 20 to 50% of the infected patients die within a few days or weeks.

Amplification / Augmentation of IFN Antiviral Action.

Data presented at the SARS Symposium also demonstrate how the experimental immunotherapeutic, Ampligen(R), can potentially override a virus-induced IFN "blockade". In addition, in some model cell-virus systems, Ampligen(R) can by-pass the blockade altogether by a process called "allosteric activation".

Antwort auf mein Schreiben kommt von denen leider auch nicht.

du scheinst da schon mehr Erfahrung zu haben! Kann es sein, daß dies seine monatlichen Bezüge sind und der Kerl einfach nur jeden Monat soviel Geld braucht zum Leben?
Wenn ja, lebt der ja nicht schlecht der Specht.
Ich verstehe nur wirklich nicht, warum er bei den derzeitigen Kursen und bei den Aussichten, noch immer jeden Monat seine Stücke an der Börse zu Geld macht? Immerhin sollte es ja heftig gen Norden gehen, wenn die Zulassung durch ist? Oder weis er da vielleicht doch mehr? Letzteres würde mir überhaupt nicht in den Kram passen, da ich schon eine Zeitlang investiert bin und nicht vorhabe mir vorläufig noch mehr Stücke davon in mein Depot zu legen.
Was mich halt auch noch verwundert ist, daß ich auf meine Mail so gar keine Antwort erhalten habe.

Bei volatilen Aktien würde ich als CEO auch regelmässige Stücke verkaufen, um weiter unten dazuzukaufen.
Vielleicht versucht er bewusst Unsicherheit zu schüren, um dann billiger mit grösseren Mengen nachzulegen.

In News-Kreisen wird von 90% Wahrscheinlichkeit gesprochen, dass Ampligen zur Zulassung kommt.

Millionen-Gewinne mit fallenden Kursen

Auf der Suche nach Erklärungen für den nicht enden wollenden Einbruch der Märkte kommt man an einer Gruppe von Marktteilnehmern nicht vorbei: den Short Sellern. Der Umsatz an den so genannten Leerverkäufen hat in den USA im vergangenen Jahr um rund 50 Prozent auf über dreieinhalb Milliarden Papiere zugenommen. Das Volumen solcher Transaktionen am Neuen Markt kann nur geschätzt werden, da diese in Deutschland im Gegensatz zu den USA nicht ausgewiesen werden müssen.

Der Short Seller leiht sich Aktien, die er für überbewertet hält, bei institutionellen Investoren, meist Fondsmanagern. Er verkauft die Aktien in der Hoffnung, dass der Kurs fällt. Bis zum Ende des Handelstages oder der vereinbarten Frist muss der Short Seller die Positionen schließen. Das heißt, dass er die Aktien, von denen er hofft, dass er sie nun billiger zurückkaufen kann, an den Verleiher zurückgeben muss. Die Differenz, abzüglich der “Leihgebühr” für den Fondsmanager, ist der Gewinn des Short Sellers. In Deutschland kommt erleichternd hinzu, dass es hier nicht nur keine Meldepflicht für solche Transaktionen gibt; es existiert auch kein Pendant zur US-amerikanischen “uptick-rule”, die panikartige Ausverkäufe begrenzen soll. Diese besagt, dass nur leer verkauft werden darf, wenn der Kurs der betreffenden Aktie zuvor um mindestens 1/32 Dollar gestiegen ist.

Hierzulande hat diese Handels-Variante spätestens seit dem Delisting der damals auch am Neuen Markt notierten Turbodyne Aufmerksamkeit erregt. Das kalifornische Unternehmen hatte spektakuläre Erfolge in der Weiterentwicklung der Dieseltechnologie versprochen. Short Seller Manuel Asensio, Wall-Street-Star unter den Leerverkäufern, hatte die Behauptungen von Turbodyne, deren Aktienkurs zuvor explodiert war, widerlegt und daran kräftig verdient. Ähnlich unlauteres Geschäftsgebahren vermutete Asensio beim US-Biotech-Unternehmen Hemispherx. Beim ersten Zusammentreffen zwischen Asensio und Hemispherx-Chef William Carter eröffnete Asensio mit den Worten: “Ich bin Manuel Asensio. Sie gehören ins Gefängnis”. Was folgte, waren Auseinandersetzungen vor Gericht mit millionenschwerem Streitwert. Carter, dessen Unternehmen an der Entwicklung des AIDS-Medikamentes Ampligen arbeitet, erwies sich zwar als ebenbürtiger Gegner, den Asensio nicht in die Knie zwingen konnte; am gefallenen Hemispherx-Aktienkurs verdiente er dennoch.

Der von vielen gehasste Asensio verkauft seine Strategie als Tugend und nimmt für sich in Anspruch, den Markt zu bereinigen. In einem in der “Wirtschaftswoche” (Ausgabe 46/00) erschienen Interview rechtfertigte er: “Wir waren es, die aufgedeckt haben, dass Peter Young von Morgan Grenfell damals 200 Millionen Dollar der Deutschen Bank in US-Penny-Stocks investierte. (....) Es ist eben ein hässliches Geschäft (...) die wirklichen Lügner sitzen doch bei Merrill Lynch und Morgan Stanley – mit welcher Bestimmtheit haben die Amazon bei 130 Dollar zum Kauf empfohlen.”

Unabhängig von der Frage, ob er ein Unternehmen zurecht angreift oder nicht. Die fallenden Aktienkurse bescheren ihm ein Millionen-Einkommen. Hierzulande halten sich die Akteure eher bedeckt; “Shorties” wie Asensio, die die Öffentlichkeit gezielt nutzen, sucht man vergeblich, nur hinter vorgehaltener Hand wird am Parkett über Leerverkäufe in größerem Umfang gesprochen. Oft sind es die selben Institute, die ein Unternehmen an die Börse begleiten, ihren Privatkunden die Zeichnung empfehlen und dann Short-Positionen in dieser Aktie aufbauen. Nicht selten haben Fondsmanager großer Banken bestimmte Aktien vollständig verliehen. Dass es sich dabei um völlig voneinander zu trennende Sparten eines Finanzdienstleisters handelt, der selbst eine Aktiengesellschaft und damit der Erwirtschaftung von Gewinn verpflichtet ist, kümmert den Privatanleger wahrscheinlich nicht.

Spielarten wie “Short Selling” oder “Hedging” (Ausgleich eines bestimmten Risikos durch die Übernahme eines zweiten, kompensatorischen Risikos) sind dem Privatanleger weitgehend unzugänglich. Neue, effizientere Handelsplattformen werden die Transparenz und Zugänglichkeit der Märkte zwar weiter steigern und die Marktmacht der etablierten Institutionen schmälern. Die Risiken, die mit einem Engagement in hoch riskanten Segmenten oder speziellen Trading-Varianten verbunden sind, bleiben jedoch enorm hoch.

Finde ich hochinteressant, zum Glück hat HEB überlebt und Asensio in Carter seinen Meister gefunden.

Dein Posting #44 vom 29.05. Hatte ich dir auch in Posting #45 beantwortet.
Ich halte nur eine kleine Position in HEB und von daher ist es mir relativ egal ob die heute oder erst in ein paar Monaten oder in einem Jahr hochgehen, wenn überhaupt. Ich mag es nur nicht besonders, wenn jemand ganz offensichtlich falsche Infos veröffentlicht und da mußte ich einfach mal was zu schreiben. Das der Kurs bei HEB schon seit mehreren Tagen abbröckelt, sieht doch einer mit nem Krückstock!!! Oder? Ich bin mal gespannt wo die Talfahrt endet? Chart hin oder her, solange der Laden ein Start-up ist (egal wie lange das dauert) zählen nur die Fakten.

Ja, im nachhinein, #44 war vor dem bröckeln. Die Firma hat ne Geschichte des Ankündigens die ich nicht mag. Wenn ich falsch liege, liegst Du richtig und hast einen DICKEN Kurssprung verdient und ich nicht (bin ja auchnicht drin).

Aber da ich selber Runterredner nicht mag ... poste ich nicht weiter. Fiel mir nur halt auf, dass der Kurs ... bröckelt in eine fiese Richtung.

Ein Vorschlag/Bitte meinerseits. Versucht News zu finden und stellt sie hier rein. Das bringt mehr und lässt die Kursschwankungen besser erklären.

Nie kopflos aus Panik verkaufen. Habe so letztes Jahr viel verloren. Biotechs gingen 50% runter und hinterher 80% hoch. Die 30% plus hatte ich leider nicht, sondern als Anfänger und Panik-Verkäufer dicke Verluste.

The letter of intent stipulates that GMC will take responsibility for all the drugs shipped by Hemispherx in relation to the clinical trial. GMC will identify the appropriate study coordinator to oversea treatment and data collection, as well as contract with the local institutions to provide the SARS patients.

Guangdong Medicine Corporation is in the business of providing pharmaceutical distribution and regulatory support in China including the organization of clinical trials in the People`s Republic of China. The Company originally was part of State Drug Administration (SDA).

Zu deiner Frage welche Fakten?

Ja, ein paar Fakten gibt es schon seit 1998! Es gab auch ein paar sehr unschöne Geschichten wie die am 07.02.2002 mit dem Short-Seller Manuel Asensio. Solche Storys hinterlassen leider immer unschöne Spuren auch wenn nicht unbedingt etwas dran ist. HEB wird da ganz schön dran zu knabbern haben und es schlägt sich m.M. nach bis heute im Kurs nieder.
Zu deiner Aussage:
Die Firma hat ne Geschichte des Ankündigens die ich nicht mag
ich bin erst seit ein paar Wochen in HEB drin, habe die Aktie deswegen ein wenig intensiver verfolgt und verstehe dein Argument, daß du die Geschichte des Ankündigens nicht magst. Ich auch nicht! Die Ankündigungen die dann einen kleinen Kurssprung bewirken, haben mir zuwenig Substanz und bringen den Kurs nicht wirklich weiter.
Meine Position werde ich im Moment trotzdem nicht verkaufen, allerdings auch nicht aufstocken. Ich denke schon, daß die ihr Ei nochmal vernünftig gelegt bekommen und dann kann ich meinen Schnitt immer noch machen.

(AMEX: HEB - News) announced today that it has entered into a sales and marketing agreement with Engitech (www.engitech.net) to launch Alferon N® on a nationwide scale. Alferon N, the company`s lead drug, is a highly purified, natural source, multispecies alpha interferon product. It is the only natural interferon approved by the FDA for the treatment of genital HPV (refractory condylomata acuminata).

The Agreement stipulates that Engitech will deploy a sales force of 100 sales representatives within one year in the U.S. domestic market and further expand the sales team up to 250 sales representatives in the second year and after that as many as it takes to continually drive market share. Engitech will also develop and implement a strategic and tactical marketing action plan and see it through to success. Furthermore, Engitech will initiate and organize an extensive scientific and educational program towards a targeted audience of physicians and consumers.

Hemispherx has a significant amount of anticipation launching Alferon N® into the U.S. market. Geduld. Mein Eindruck von HEB: Produkte vielversprechend, Management .....naja. Vielleicht bringt die Alferon-Geschichte den nötigen Cashflow, um die CFS und HIV Tests mit Ampligen endlich mit Nachdruck zu Ende zu bringen.

Third Multi-Million Dollar Transaction in Year 2003 to Further Expand
Alferon N Sales Program and Prepare for Ampligen NDA Filing

Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (AMEX:HEB) announced today that it
closed a private placement, with the diligent help of Cardinal
Securities, LLC acting as placement agent, to two institutional
investors of 6% senior secured convertible debentures due October 31,
2005 in the aggregate principal amount of $4,142,357 and warrants to
purchase an amount of shares of Common Stock equal to 20% of the
shares issuable upon conversion of the debentures. The debentures may
be convertible into Hemispherx common stock at a price equal to the
average closing price of the shares over the last 20 trading days,
subject to adjustment. The warrants have an exercise price of $2.32,
subject to adjustment. The closing price of the stock on October 28
was $2.60.
The net proceeds of this transaction will go toward the further
expansion of the Alferon N(R) Sales Program in the United States. In
August the Company announced that it had contracted with Engitech to
deploy a sales force of 100 sales representatives within one year in
the U.S. domestic market. Within three months, Engitech has already
fielded a sales team of close to 40 sales people and is screening

(AMEX:HEB - News) announced losses for the three months ended September 30, 2003 of $5,422,000 or $0.15 per share compared to losses of $1,891,000 or $0.06 per share for the same period in 2002. The losses in 2003 include $2,934,000 in non-cash charges relating to the discount to face value of the March 12, 2005 and July, 2005 6% Senior Convertible Debentures. Excluding these 54% non-cash charges, the losses for the three months ended September 30, 2003 were $2,488,000 or $0.07 per share.
Since December 31, 2002, total assets have increased $5,001,000 and Stockholder`s Equity has increased $3,730,000.

Cash and equivalents were $5,061,000 at September 20, 2003 for an increase of $2,250,000 since December 31, 2002. Subsequently, the sale of a third set of convertible debentures on October 29, 2003 produced additional operating funds. Approximately $1,000,000 is pledged against outstanding letters of credit.

R & D Phase Nearing Completion

Research and Development costs were down $348,000 (29%) compared to 2002 primarily due to the Phase III ME/CFS Clinical Trial nearing completion which resulted in lower related costs in 2003.
