position to capitalize on the transition from switched-circuit communications
technology to converged IP networks for voice, data and video.
For example, 8x8 has used its Audacity™ Internet Telephony Processor, a
combination protocol and signal processor on a single chip, to build its
Symphony™ voice over IP (VoIP) Module. This module enables customers to
connect inexpensive analog telephones to IP networks, substantially lowering
the cost of building IP telephony systems.
To switch telephone calls between Symphonies on a network, 8x8`s
subsidiary, Odisei S.A. is developing a software package called the
IntraSwitch™ IP-PBX. This software is a highly scalable, Java-based solution
for managing VoIP networks. When used in conjunction with Symphony
Modules, IntraSwitch provides advanced IP-PBX features, such as call
forwarding, remote pickup, call routing and voice mail. For service providers,
IntraSwitch offers a low-cost, low-maintenance platform for delivering complete
