Statt auffälliger Automaten sollen künftig allgegenwärtige Nanosensoren die Sicherheitskontrollen übernehmen.

Sicherheitsexperten diskutieren Nanosensoren

Technik. - Besseren Schutz vor Terroranschlägen versprechen sich Sicherheitsfachleute von Sensoren auf Nanotechnologiebasis. Auf der " Nano Security 2005" in Halle/Saale wurden die jüngsten Entwicklungen vorgestellt. Der Wissenschaftsjournalist Ralf Krauter im Gespräch mit Arndt Reuning

Reuning: Was versprechen sich die Sicherheitsexperten von der Nanotechnologie.

Krauter: Ich würde sagen, dasselbe, wie von jeder Miniaturisierung, alles soll kleiner besser und billiger werden, idealerweise. Sicherheitsfachleute, das sind ja Menschen, die andere Menschen und kritische Infrastruktur schützen sollen vor Angriffen durch Terroristen, Kriminelle, aber auch vor Naturkatastrophen und Epidemien, und die Schlüsselrolle bei ihrer Arbeit spielt eben auch die Früherkennung solcher drohender Gefahren. Und dafür braucht man ein möglichst ausgedehntes Netz solcher Sensoren, denken Sie nur an die Metalldetektoren am Flughafen, oder auch die Sprengstoffdetektoren, mit denen das Gepäck analysiert wird, aber auch die Biosensoren, die die Luft in öffentlichen Gebäuden überwachen, oder die Qualität des Trinkwassers.

Solche Sensoren gibt es natürlich schon, aber die sind entweder nicht empfindlich genug, oder eben schlicht zu teuer, um auf breiter Front eingesetzt zu werden. Da soll eben Nanotechnologie Abhilfe schaffen und solche Messfühler empfindlicher, kleiner, billiger und besser machen.

Reuning: Kann Nanotechnologie das tatsächlich heute schon leisten?

Krauter: Ich würde sagen, sie ist auf dem besten Weg dazu. Es gab hier heute mittag ein zweistündiges Symposium unter dem Titel " detection of hazards" , wo es genau um solche Gefahrensensoren ging. Da wurden genau solche Projekte vorgestellt. Ich nenne mal ein paar Beispiele: Ein leitender Angestellter des Lawrence Livermore Labors, also der renommierten US-Militärforschungseinrichtung, erzählte zum Beispiel von einem neuartigen Neutronendetektor auf Nanobasis. Solche Neutronendetektoren braucht man, um den Schmuggel von radioaktivem Material besser kontrollieren zu können. Die bisherigen Versionen müssen gekühlt werden, sind zu sperrig oder zu kompliziert, um sie an jedem Bahnhof oder Hafen aufstellen zu können, und deshalb haben die Amerikaner jetzt auf der Basis dreidimensionaler Silizium-Nanostrukturen den Prototyp solch eines Neutronendetektors entwickelt, der bei Raumtemperatur funktioniert und auftreffende Neutronen mit deutlich höherer Effizienz als bisher registriert. Möglich wird das durch Nanosäulen aus Silizium, die haben einen Durchmesser von einigen Nanometern, sind einige Mikrometer hoch. Das Resultat ist eine enorme Oberflächenvergrößerung, und das führt dazu, dass die Nachweiseffizienz dieses Detektors von früher zwei bis fünf Prozent angehoben werden konnte auf 85 Prozent. Und dieser Oberflächeneffekt, den Nano bietet, dieser Oberflächenbonus sozusagen, der wird auch bei einem anderen Beispiel genutzt, das heute hier präsentiert wurde: Forscher des Fraunhofer-Instituts für chemische Technologie in Pfinztal arbeiten an empfindlichen Sprengstoffdetektoren. Das sind Halbleiterdetektoren, die feinste Spuren von Gasen detektieren, also sozusagen elektronische Schnüffler. Und in einem Projekt arbeitet man da an so etwas wie einem Nanorasen. Das sind biegsame Halme aus Gold und Zink, deren elektrischen Widerstand sich ändert, wenn Sprengstoffmoleküle in der Luft sind und die Grashalme haben auch einen Durchmesser von 100 Nanometer, sind echte Nanotechnologie, und die Oberfläche eines solchen Nanorasens, kennt man ja von zu Hause, vom Mähen, führt auch hier dazu, dass die Empfindlichkeit eben steigt, die Ansprechzeit sinkt, also besser und schneller als alles was bisher auf dem Markt war.

Reuning: Damit nutzt man aber nicht die speziellen Gesetze der Nanowelt aus?

Krauter: Ja, das stimmt, dieser Volumeneffekt ist natürlich der trivialste eigentlich beim Übergang in die Nanowelt, die langfristig sogar spannender sind. So haben zum Beispiel Fraunhofer-Forscher vom Institut für angewandte Festkörperphysik einen Quanteneffekt genutzt, um eine ultraempfindliche Wärmekamera zu bauen. Die schichten dazu Hunderte von Nanometer dicken Lagen bestimmter Halbleiter übereinander, und man weiß eben, dass solche Kaskadenstrukturen einfallendes infrarotes Licht extrem gut verstärken, und die resultierende Wärmebildkamera haben sich die Forscher patentieren lassen, sie hat die derzeit weltweit beste Temperaturauflösung. Und, na ja, wer braucht so etwas? Das ist natürlich spannend für Nachtsichtgeräte, für militärische Anwendungen oder für die Polizei. Zum anderen arbeiten die Fraunhofer-Forscher jetzt aber auch mit führenden Rüstungskonzernen zusammen, wenn es um die Abwehr von Raketenangriffen auf Passagierflugzeuge geht. Da muss man ja solche Stinger-Raketen frühzeitig erkennen, wenn die abgefeuert werden. Und man erkennt die an ihrem heißen Abgasstrahl, und so eine ultrasensitive Kamera kann da eben das entscheidende Moment sein, um so ein Abwehrsystem zu entwickeln.

Isonics erhöht Beteiligung an deutscher Gesellschaft auf 30 Prozent, Globale Vermarktung des Sprengstoff-Detektors

Golden, Colorado (ots) - Die Isonics Corporation (Nachrichten) (Frankfurt IO9),
die sich mit der Entwicklung von Technologien der nächsten Generation
im Bereich der nationalen Sicherheit und im Halbleitergeschäft einen
Namen gemacht hat, gab bekannt, dass sie ihre Kapitalbeteiligung am
Institut für Umwelttechnologien (IUT-Berlin) von 8,5 % auf 30 %
erhöhen, ihre Entwicklungsaktivitäten im Bereich der
Detektortechnologien auf Neutronenbasis ausweiten sowie die bewährte
Technologie Ionenmobilitätsspektroskopie (IMS) bei der Entwicklung
eines tragbaren Handgeräts zum Aufspüren von Sprengstoffen,

Der Vertrag regelt, dass Isonics und IUT-Berlin ihre bestehenden

Sniffex, Inc. Announces Major National Marketing Plan

(OTC Pink Sheets: SNFX) ("Sniffex"), producers of Sniffex, an explosive detection device, announced today the launch of the second phase of its marketing strategy with a major direct mail and follow-up telephone campaign. The plan includes the distribution of over 20,000 direct mail pieces to its primary target markets including police forces, security companies, airlines, airports and air cargo, universities and large sports venues. The direct mail program will be followed up with a telemarketing campaign that will result in a focused list of primary prospects for Sniffex.
