Strathmore Increases Land Position in Powder River Basin, Wyoming by 5,000 Acres

KELOWNA, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 8, 2006--Strathmore Minerals Corp. (the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:STM - News) is pleased to announce that the Company has completed the staking of 249 lode mining claims in the Powder River Basin, of northeastern Wyoming. The Powder River Basin is home to two "in-situ leach" uranium extraction facilities and other known occurrences that may be amenable to recovery by ISL. Strathmore was one of the first companies to stake claims and file for state mineral leases in this area during the current uranium boom; the Company was able to gain control of several tracts of land which had significant historic drilling and mine development work completed.

The new claims lie contiguous or near to the Company`s substantial holdings in the area (see press releases: July 11 and Nov. 8, 2005; Nov. 25, 2004). The Company now controls over 12,000 acres (450 mining claims and 5 State Mineral Leases) of lands in this area of the Powder River Basin. The properties are underlain with known and potential uranium mineralization consisting of tens of miles of uranium roll-front deposits which may be amenable to the "in-situ" leach (ISL) uranium recovery method. The host formation is the Eocene age Wasatch Formation which occurs throughout the area. All historic work was done prior to establishment of NI 43-101 requirements. Reports and records are under evaluation and acquisition. Additional lands may be acquired in the future.

Wyoming has produced over 80,000 tonnes U3O8 (200+ million pounds) of which nearly all production has been from roll-front type uranium deposits. The majority of this uranium was mined by conventional methods (open-pit and underground); however, ISL extraction techniques were pioneered and introduced in Wyoming in the 1960s and is now the preferred method of mining if possible. The ISL method utilizes water wells and oxygen-fortified groundwater to extract uranium in place. This method is the safest and most environmental friendly uranium recovery method in the world.
