UK regulator extends licence for North Sea Cambo oil prospect
LONDON, March 30 (Reuters) - The British oil and gas regulator has extended by two years the licence for the Cambo oilfield prospect in the North Sea which is owned by Shell and Siccar Point, Shell said on Wednesday.

"The North Sea Transition Authority has awarded Siccar Point Energy and Shell UK an extension to the underlying licences containing the Cambo field which were due to expire tomorrow," Shell said in a statement.

Shell last December announced it had scrapped plans to develop the field, which had become a lightning rod for climate activists seeking to halt the development of new oil and gas resources.

But following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the greater focus on European energy security, there have been growing calls to develop new oil and gas fields in the North Sea.

Shell said its position hasn't changed, but that "the extension to the licenses will allow time to evaluate all potential future options for the project". (Reporting by Ron Bousso; Editing by Louise Heavens and Jan Harvey)

Shell filed appeal against landmark Dutch climate ruling
LONDON – Energy major Shell has filed its appeal against a Dutch court ruling that ordered the oil, gas and fuel producer to cut its emissions faster in a landmark win for activists turning to courts to force climate action.

While Shell had set itself a target to reach net zero carbon neutrality by 2050, its intermediate targets were based on emissions intensity, which could in theory allow the group to increase fossil fuel output.

In last May’s ruling on the case brought by seven groups including Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth Netherlands, the court said that Shell must cut emissions faster and reduce its absolute emissions by 45% by 2030.

Shell said at the time of the ruling that it would appeal. In a post on LinkedIn, Marjan van Loon, Shell’s Netherlands President, said the appeal was filed on March 22.

The vast majority of Shell’s emissions are so-called Scope 3 emissions from the use of its products by customers, such as when gasoline is combusted in a car or jet fuel on a plane.

Shell Chief Executive Ben van Beurden has argued that Shell can reach net zero only if society as a whole moves to net zero.

“The judgment holds Shell responsible for reducing the emissions of its customers from the use of its products,” he said. “We question how Shell can have a legal obligation to reduce carbon emissions we do not control from customers who are not under a similar legal obligation to reduce their emissions.

“If we decided to stop selling petrol, it would not mean that people would buy less petrol. Customers would buy it elsewhere.”

Shell Adds Deep-Water Production in the Gulf of Mexico with PowerNap
      29 March, 2022

Shell Offshore Inc. (Shell), a subsidiary of Shell plc, today announces the start of production at PowerNap, a subsea development in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico with an estimated peak production of 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d). PowerNap is a tie-back to the Shell-operated Olympus production hub in the prolific Mars Corridor.

“Shell has been producing in the Mars Corridor for more than 25 years, and we continue to find ways to unlock even more value there,” said Zoe Yujnovich, Shell Upstream Director. “PowerNap strengthens a core Upstream position that is critical to achieving our Powering Progress strategy and ensuring we can supply the stable, secure energy resources the world needs today and in the future.”

Shell is the leading deep-water operator in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, where our production is among the lowest greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity in the world for producing oil. Our global deep-water portfolio represents two core positions in our Upstream business with prolific basins in the US and Brazil, along with an exciting frontier exploration portfolio in Mexico, Suriname, Argentina and West Africa. Shell designs and operates its deep-water projects to be competitive and economically resilient, and since 2015, has reduced unit development costs by 50% and unit operating costs by 40%.
      Notes to Editors
      • Shell discovered PowerNap in 2014.
      • 100% developed by Shell, it is located in the south-central Mississippi Canyon area approximately 240 kilometres (~150 miles) from New Orleans in about 1,280 metres (~4,200 feet) of water.
      • PowerNap is a subsea tie-back to the Shell operated Olympus TLP, with three production wells produced through a single insulated 19-mile flowline and high-pressure gas lift capability.
      • Shell operates Olympus with a 71.5% working interest, with BP controlling the remaining 28.5%.
      • PowerNap production will be transported to market on the Mars pipeline, which is operated by Shell Pipeline Company LP and co-owned by Shell Midstream Partners, L.P. (71.5%) and BP Midstream Partners LP (28.5%).
      • PowerNap is expected to produce up to 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) at peak rates.
      • The reference to our U.S. Gulf of Mexico production being among the lowest GHG intensity in the world is a comparison among other IOGP oil- and gas-producing members.

Wasserstoff-Tanknetz H2 Mobility kann mit 110 Millionen Euro wachsen
Frankfurt, 29.

China's Sinopec pauses Russia projects, Beijing wary of sanctions -sources
March 25 (Reuters) - (March 25, story corrects to show that Novatek did not respond to requests for comment, not that it declined to comment)

China's state-run Sinopec Group has suspended talks for a major petrochemical investment and a gas marketing venture in Russia, sources told Reuters, heeding a government call for caution as sanctions mount over the invasion of Ukraine.

The move by Asia's biggest oil refiner to hit the brakes on a potentially half-billion-dollar investment in a gas chemical plant and a venture to market Russian gas in China highlights the risks, even to Russia's most important diplomatic partner, of unexpectedly heavy Western-led sanctions.

Beijing has repeatedly voiced opposition to the sanctions, insisting it will maintain normal economic and trade exchanges with Russia, and has refused to condemn Moscow's actions in Ukraine or call them an invasion. read more

But behind the scenes, the government is wary of Chinese companies running afoul of sanctions - it is pressing companies to tread carefully with investments in Russia, its second-largest oil supplier and third-largest gas provider.
