Phillips 66 expects late 2019 investment decision on ethane cracker
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/phillips-66-expects-2019-inve…=>
HOUSTON, April 27 (Reuters) - Phillips 66 expects a final investment decision on building an ethane cracker on the U.S. Gulf Coast by joint-venture Chevron Phillips Chemical Co by late 2019, Phillips 66 Chief Executive Greg Garland said on Friday.
Chevron Phillips, a petrochemical joint venture between Chevron Corp and Phillips 66, recently started up a 1.5-million-ton-per-year ethane cracker at its Baytown, Texas, plant and is considering adding a second similar sized unit along the Gulf Coast.
"It seems like appropriate timing to us in terms of (a final investment decision) in late '19 and really get started in earnest in '20 and '21 in the construction," Garland said during a conference call with Wall Street analysts to discuss first-quarter earnings...

PES has blamed its bankruptcy on environmental regulations that require all U.S. refiners to cover the costs of blending corn-based ethanol into the nation’s gasoline. But the ill-fated train terminal deal and other large payouts to investors played key roles in the refiner's collapse, according to filings and five current or former PES employees who were involved in the refinery's decision-making. The employees spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity...

Philadelphia Energy Solutions LLC, the owner of the largest U.S. East Coast oil refining complex, announced to its employees on Sunday that it plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to an internal memo reviewed by Reuters.
The bankruptcy would come six years after private equity firm Carlyle Group LP (CG.O) and Energy Transfer Partners LP’s Sunoco Inc rescued Philadelphia Energy Solutions from financial distress, in a deal that was supported by tax breaks and grants that saved thousands of jobs...
...Part of the refiner’s financial troubles stem from a costly biofuels law called the Renewable Fuels Standard, which is administered by the Environmental Protection Agency and requires refiners to blend biofuels into the nation’s fuel supply every year, or buy credits from those who do.
Since 2012, Philadelphia Energy Solutions has spent more than $800 million on credits to comply with the law, making it the refiner’s biggest expense after the purchase of crude, according to the memo.
...
East Coast refiners have lower profit margins than other refineries across the country, largely because of a reliance on crude imports from West Africa and other markets...

a report from Piper Jaffray analysts that called the oil refining companies the “clear winners” from U.S. tax reform.

Unlike oil explorers and equipment providers that have struggled to generate positive cash flow, refiners have enjoyed fat margins and the group is in a stronger position to benefit from a lower corporate tax burden, Guy Baber, an analyst at Piper’s Simmons unit, tells Bloomberg.

SP500-Unternehmen geshortet.
