wie ihr bestimmt schon gehört habt, konnte Biogen heute den derzeitigen Prozess wegen dem Produkt
Avonex gegen "Schering" gewinnen............

Ein US-Bundesgericht hat entschieden, dass Biogens (Nasdaq: BGEN) Behandlungmittel
für Multiple Sklerose, Avonex, nicht die Patente von Berlex
Laboratories verletzt.

Berlex hat bereits Berufung angekündigt. Der SG
Cowen-Analyst Eric Schmidt glaubt allerdings, dass die Berufung wenig
Chancen hat. Schmidt wiederholte seine Kaufempfehlung für Biogen.

Avonex
ist das Hauptprodukt und damit der größte Umsatzbringer von
Biogen. Eine Entscheidung gegen Biogen hätte somit fatale Folgen

NEW YORK, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Biogen Inc. <BGEN.O> shares rose nearly 5 percent on Wednesday after a U.S. District Court
ruled its multiple sclerosis treatment Avonex did not infringe on the patent rights of Berlex Laboratories Inc., the U.S. unit of
Germany`s Schering AG <SCHG.DE>.

Stock in the Cambridge, Mass.-based company, which makes most of its money from Avonex -- the most widely sold drug in the
United States to combat multiple sclerosis, traded up 3-3/16 to 70-3/4 in midday activity on the Nasdaq, below a year high of 129
and above a 52-week low of 48-1/2.

"This represents the best case outcome for Biogen, as these proceedings will not go to trial," Chase H&Q analyst David Molowa
said. "Now, it appears that Biogen will not be required to pay Berlex any royalties on the sales of Avonex.

Biogen`s motion was filed earlier this year and hearings from both parties were held this past March. Berlin-based Schering claimed
Biogen`s process for producing drugs to treat multiple sclerosis were similar to Schering processes that are protected by patent law.

But in a 108 page summary, Judge Mark Wolf of the Federal District Court for the District of Massachusetts issued an opinion
granting Biogen`s motion for summary judgment related to non-infringement of two patents licensed to Berlex.

"We believe that Judge Wolf`s action lifts a cloud over Biogen`s shares. Several bears had expected Biogen to lose this case and pay
significant royalties on Avonex` sales," Molowa said.

Schering`s Betaferon is second to Avonex in the United States as an MS treatment. In Europe, however, Schering is the market
leader. Despite Schering`s promises to appeal the ruling, analysts said it eliminates any near-term prospects for a court trial.

"In our view this decision removes an overhang regarding potential royalty and other payments on Avonex revenue that had been a
source of investor concern," PaineWebber analyst Elise Wang said in a note.

"We believe that focus will likely shift to the progress on the clinical trial front, particularly the results from Avonex in
secondary-progressive MS and the dose comparison study as well as the potential for product in-licensing announcements.

A Schering spokesman said the firm was surprised by the ruling, adding it would not affect profits in 2000.

In a release on Tuesday, James Mullen, Biogen`s president and chief executive officer, said: "We have always been very confident we
had a strong legal position in this dispute. Today`s decision vindicates our position. We are anxious to put this matter behind us."

Analyst Peter Drake of Prudential Securities said in a research note that the announcement was, "in line with our expectations. We
maintain our hold rating on Biogen."

Die Analysten des Investmenthauses Credit Suisse First Boston stufen die Aktie
des Biotechnologiekonzerns Biogen (WKN 866822) von „Halten“ auf „Kaufen“
hoch.

Die Gesellschaft habe eine Kooperation mit dem Gentechnologieunternehmen
Targeted Genetics bekannt gegeben. Dabei sollen für den Biotech-Konzern bis
zu vier Gentherapie-Produkte entwickelt werden. Dies erweise sich angesichts
der sehr kleinen Produktpipeline des Unternehmens als äußerst vorteilhaft.

Dem Anleger könne nun ein Engagement in den NASDAQ-Titel nahegelegt

Ja,ja, das sind doch endlich mal gute Nachrichten... Ein wenig der Unsicherheit ist erst einmal weg, die Kursentwicklung der letzten Tage (und das in diesem Umfeld) war zufriedenstellend und so hoffe ich einmal mehr, dass Biogen bei mir doch noch seinen Ruf als "na-ja-da-hätte-ich-mir-mehr-erwartet" verliert. Mit fröhlichem Grinsen grüßt *m*

ich möchte mal eine Chartanalyse zu Biogen anstellen:




Biogen bewegt sich zur Zeit in einem Seitwärtstrendkanal zwischen 60 € und rund 79 €. Anfang Juli fiel der Kurs von 79 € auf 60 €, wobei stetig das Handelsvolumen abnahm (zeugt von Hartgesottenen).
Der Anstieg, der seit Anfang August, von 60 € auf derzeit 77 € stattfand, wurde durch positive Meldungen (Kooperation und positives
Gerichtsurteil) unterstütz, weiter zog auch vor allem das Handelsvolumen wieder rapide an, was dem Aufwärtstrend ein positives
Signal gibt. Der Kurs konnte durch den Anstieg auch die 100 Tagelinie, endlich nach dem zweiten Versuch durchbrechen und auch
die 200 Tagelinie ankratzen, was ebenfalls positiv zu interpretieren ist. Sollte Biogen in den nächsten Tagen die 80 € Marke nachhaltig
durchbrechen, ist der Weg nach oben frei. Bei einem Durchbruch der 80 € Marke und eines positiven Marktumfeldes
sehe ich einen Anstieg auf 90 bis 95 € als realistisch und machbar....................

Also mein KZ 90 bis 95 € in den nächsten Tagen (unter obiger Voraussetzung)

hey heute gibt es schon wieder Neues um Biogen zu berichten:

Biogen (Nasdaq:BGEN) und Elan (Nyse:ELN) verkünden ein gemeinsames Joint
Venture für Elans Antegren. Das Joint Venture beinhaltet die
Entwicklung, Produktion und den Vertrieb von Antegren. Über die
finanziellen Einzelheiten des Joint Venture ist nichts bekannt.


Antegren ist wie Biogens Avonex ein Mittel gegen Multiple
Sklerose. Beide Firmen sind überzeugt davon, dass eine Kombination
der Medikamente eine effektive Waffe für den Kampf gegen
die Krankheit ist.

Es wird erwartet das Antegren
2004 auf den Markt erscheint. Experten gehen von einem
jährlichen Umsatzpotential von 1 Mrd. Dollar aus. Ein
größerer Umsatz scheint möglich, sollte sich herausstellen, dass Antegren
auch zur Bekämpfung der Crohn-Krankheit, einer Entzündung des Darms,
eingesetzt werden kann.



Der Deal kommt Biogen gelegen, da

Die Analysten des Investmenthauses SG Cowen empfehlen die Aktie des US-Biotechnologiekonzerns Biogen (WKN 866822) weiterhin zum Kauf.

Ein US-Bundesgericht habe entschieden, dass das Behandlungsmittel für Multiple Sklerose, Avonex, nicht die Patente der Schering-Tochter Berlex Laboratories verletzt. Nach Ansicht des zuständigen Analysten Eric Schmidt dürfte die von Berlex angekündigte Berufung wenig Erfolgschancen aufweisen.

Avonex ist das Hauptprodukt und damit der größte Umsatzbringer des Biotechkonzerns. Eine Entscheidung gegen Biogen hätte sich somit fatal auswirken können.

Die Analysten von Morgan Stanley Dean Witter raten zum Kauf der Aktie des Biotechnologieunternehmens Biogen (WKN 866822).

„Avonex“, das erste Medikament, das Biogen direkt auf den Markt brachte, habe gute Einnahmen erwirtschaftet, die Analysten rechnen weiterhin mit einem zweistelligem Wachstum bis zum Jahr 2002. Biogen habe noch zwei aussichtsreiche Medikamente in Phase II beziehungsweise Phase III der klinischen Prüfung.

Die Analysten empfehlen die Aktie von Biogen als einen defensiven Depotwert in einem unsicheren Marktsegment. Die Aktie sei auch als Alternative zu traditionellen Pharmawerten zu betrachten.

Biogen ist auf jedenfall ein Kauf wert, da:

- total billig mit einem KGV von 33 (hab aber irgendwie ein niedrigeres im Kopf, werde mich noch schlau machen)
- cashbestand von rund 500 Millionen $
- Kooperation mit Elan (siehe weiter oben)
- positiver Stand des Rechtstreites mit Schering

deine euphorie schön und gut, nur sehe ich nach dem schönen ansteig seit ende juli eher die gefahr eine technischen korrektur gegeben. bin deshalb raus und warte nun auf bessere wiedereinstiegskurse im bereich 70€ bis 75€ - je nach heftigkeit kanns auch ein wenig weiter runter gehen.
der widerstand bei 75USD scheint sehr stark (siehe anfang juli)auch bei 73USD im Juni ist der Kurs schon zurückgekommen ....

@winner_ix, wir werden sehen, wer recht hat. Sollte ich jedoch falsch liegen, würde es mich nicht überraschen,
denn mit Biogen hab ich schon einiges durchmachen müssen (Höhen und Tiefen). Flalsch eingeschätzt habe
ich die Aktien auch des öfteren, aber wir müssen der Aktie einfach Zeit lassen, denn bis neue Forschungs-
ergebnisse vorliegen braucht es eine zeitlang und bis die 500 Millionen Cash richtig investiert sind auch. Fakt
ist jedoch, das das Unternehmen super dasteht und auch sehr billig bewertet ist......

aber was soll´s...von bislang 90%Minus auf ´nur´ noch ca. 45%Minus.
Da bin ich ja schon fast zufrieden

Schade: gestern wieder Schluß unter 200-Tage Linie - Umsatz lähmend!jedoch: auch wenn man es kaum glauben kann, aber jetzt sind es nur
noch ca. 5-6Wochen zu den earnings. beim letzten mal ist der Kurs
genau in dem Zeitraum schön nach oben gegangen.

Also: spirituell betrachtet - konzentrieren und bündeln wir unseren
Glauben, dann klappt es schon.....

doch auch schon wieder etwas besser aussehen, oder ??

glaub ich langsam auch, das wir die einzigen Aktionäre sind, glaub wir übernehmen jetzt dann die Leitung der
Bude hippie . Naja Höhen hatte ich ganz am Anfang, als ich die Aktie gekauft habe, das war kurz bevor sie
in den Standard & Poors Index aufgenommen wurde...........Tja und dann ging es abwärts, schließlich war ich
überzeugt und kaufte nach. Die Aktie fiel weiter und nun geeeeeeehhhhhhhhhttttttttt es endlich aaaaaabbbbbb.
Hoff ich zumindest.........

Hi! Ich bin schon ein seltsamer Biogen-Aktionär, rühre mich nur, wenn`s was Negatives zu melden gibt... Aber obwohl ich (wie einige Vorschreiber) eher Tiefen und weniger Höhen erlebt habe, glaube ich doch, dass die jetzige Durststrecke nur von kurzer Dauer ist. Ich hätte z.B. im Juni (runter auf 60) nicht geglaubt, dass Biogen die 80€ so schnell erreicht. Naja, jetzt hoffe ich, dass es nicht wieder ganz so weit runtergeht und dann halt wieder in kleinen Schritten rauf, lalala, dann reicht`s zum Jahresende vielleicht doch noch, um mal wieder 100€ zu sehen (mein altes KZ und in etwa der selbe Quotient, 80/60 = 100/75) - dann wäre die Bilanz fürs Jahr 2000 (inklusive Nachkäufe) doch noch ganz zufriedenstellend. Da ich auch noch andere Pferde im Stall habe (jung und ungestüm), kann sich Biogen ruhig Zeit lassen, das wird schon noch... Den Optimismus verlieren wir doch nicht, oder? @lp, spirou,... (wo ist eigentlich Alexius???)

wollte nur noch mal was zu Deiner Frage sagen.
Mit den E. meinte ich eigentlich folgendes:
habe schon häufiger beobachtet, daß in diesem Zeitraum
vor Bekanntgabe der Zahlen, die Kurse anziehen, um dann
mit der Bekanntgabe wieder nachzugeben.

sollte die unterstützung bei 60 usd nicht halten, dann könnte sie bis auf 55 usd fallen. dann sollte das gröbste jedoch überstanden sein. der schwache euro verwässert die kurse in europa und beeinflusst so eine charttechische analyse auf euro basis. wenn ich mir den rsi und den stochastik indikator ansehe, dann rechne ich in den nächsten tagen mit kurssteigerungen. auch das momentum gibt mir recht. nur der macd ist negativ. meine meinung...

Allerdings wurde die gute Nachricht durch den gesamten
negativen Trend bei den BioTechs quasi weggespült.
Unterm Strich haben sie sich ja doch noch ganz gut

Shares of Biogen (BGEN: news, msgs) retreated Friday after SG Cowen analyst Eric Schmidt lowered his revenue projections for Biogen`s flagship drug, Avonex, a multiple sclerosis treatment. Schmidt said he reduced his third-quarter Avonex expectations from $206 million to $195 million.

Shares of Cambridge, Mass.-based Biogen ended down $4.77, or 7.7 percent, to $57.30.

"We have been discouraged with prescription growth of Avonex over the summer," Schmidt said in an interview.

Although he reduced his expectations for the company`s primary revenue source, Schmidt said there are reasons to be optimistic about Biogen`s prospects. He said the company is working on getting additional therapeutics on the market and he said investors may be "pleasantly surprised" in the future by Biogen`s efforts to expand its product portfolio.

Schmidt said he has some hopes for a potential Biogen product called Amevive, which is supposed to treat psoriasis. Amevive is in late-stage patient testing.

Biogen`s Avonex, Given at Early Sign of MS, Cuts Risk in Study

Boston, Sept. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Biogen Inc.`s Avonex, the leading treatment for patients with multiple
sclerosis, may delay the disease or prevent it from developing in high-risk patients with early signs of
the disease, a new study shows.

In the three-year study of 383 volunteers, patients given weekly shots of Avonex, a kind of interferon,
after the first signs of multiple sclerosis were almost half as likely to develop the disease as those
injected with a placebo, researchers found. Brain scans also found patients on Avonex had smaller
brain lesions and were less likely to develop new ones, they said.


The study, sponsored by Biogen, will appear in this week`s New
England Journal of Medicine. The publication will help Biogen`s sales
force spread the news about a possible new use for Avonex in the
treatment of MS patients.

``There`s a big opportunity to get at these patients earlier,`` said Dr.
Lawrence Jacobs, the lead researcher and professor of neurology at
the State University of New York in Buffalo.

About 13,000 patients at risk of developing MS each year in the U.S.
could benefit from early use of Avonex, he said.

Biogen plans to seek approval to sell Avonex to patients at risk of MS
in the U.S. and Europe, a company spokeswoman said. Avonex is
now used to treat a form of the disease known as relapsing-remitting,
in which flareups are followed by periods during which patients are
largely free of symptoms.

Some Concerns

Aggressive treatment for patients with early signs of multiple sclerosis is controversial. While Avonex
may delay development of the disease, debate remains on the best treatment approach, according a
review of MS therapies by a team of experts led by Dr. John Noseworthy from the Mayo Clinic in
Rochester, Minnesota. The review accompanied the Avonex study.

``This report may influence patients` and physicians` decisions regarding the timing of interferon
therapy, although the inconvenience, treatment-related side effects, cost, and lack of evidence of an
important long-term benefit`` from Avonex ``will deter others from starting treatment early,`` the
reviewers wrote.

With multiple sclerosis, the protective sheath covering nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord is
destroyed gradually. That distrupts electrical impulses through the nerves and causes a range of
symptoms -- including loss of sensation, strength, coordination and even sight.

Patients in the study had evidence of neurological damage, though few symptoms. Those who got
Avonex had a 35 percent chance of developing full-blown MS within three years, compared with 50
percent of those getting placebo, the researchers said. After 18 months, the total size of lesions
increased 1 percent in patients on Avonex, compared to 16 percent for those on placebo.

The study was first presented at American Academy of Neurology meeting in May.

Biogen Announces Realignment of Management Positions

today announced several key appointments to its senior management.

Robert A. Hamm has been appointed Vice President, Sales and Marketing, replacing
Michael W. Bonney, who has announced his intention to resign at the end of this

NEW YORK, June 12 (Reuters) - Biogen Inc. (NasdaqNM:BGEN - news) on Tuesday said Phase III clinical trials of its experimental psoriasis drug Amevive showed patients experienced a 75 percent or greater reduction of the scaly skin patches characteristic of psoriasis.

Biogen said it plans to file for approval of Amevive from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and from European authorities in the second half of this year.

The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company said the drug met its primary objective, as measured by a psoriasis severity index, two weeks after completion of a 12-week course of treatment.

The results are good news for Biogen at a time when the company is fending off a challenge to its top-selling Avonex multiple sclerosis drug from Geneva-based Serono SA (NYSE:SRA - news) . Serono is seeking to break Avonex`s orphan drug status, which gives it protection from rivals.

``The results from these Phase III trials confirm our enthusiasm for the continued development of Amevive,`` James Mullen, Biogen`s chief executive, said in a statement.

More than 1,100 patients in the United States, Europe and Canada were enrolled in the double-blind, placebo-controlled studies. Patients in the trials were aged 16 to 84 with psoriasis that covered at least 10 percent of their total body surface area.

Side effects were similar in both the Amevive and the placebo groups and included headache, pruritis, infection, pharyngitis and rhinitis, the company said.

Biogen is set to face competition in the market for psoriasis treatments as some 30 drug companies are developing rival products.

Biogen said it will provide further details from the studies at the International Psoriasis Symposium in San Francisco on June 22.
