Gerüchten zufolge ist u.a. GE als Übernahmeinteressent von Honeywell im Gespräch. Dies käme teuer zu stehen, mind. 40 Mill USD. Wie zuvor bei United Tec. dürfte der Kurs um 10% nachgeben, falls das tatsächlich stimmen sollte.

The Deal
Good day to all! Well, we got a VERY EARLY Christmas present with the GE/HON acquisition, did we not? Some details (you`ve probably all heard them by now, but, what the heck?!):
1. $45 billion dollar deal, largest in corporate (and GE) history, 1.055 shares of GE for each HON share.
2. Jack Welch to stay on through end of 2001 to oversee the deal! Yeeaaahhhhh, boyyyeeee!!! Ha ha! HON`s CEO Bonsignore to join GE Board of Directors.
3. In a business-wide e-mail to GE employees from yesterday, Jack says that there will be almost NO overlap in any of GE or HON`s merged businesses! Incredible! Combined 2001 revenues now expected to approach $160 Billion, profits to approach $16 Billion. Jack also says that a new CEO/chairman-elect will be named before this year`s end.
4. Jack and Mr. Bonsignore will both be guests on CNBC`s Squawk Box this morning at 8:30 AM. Today is 5th anniversary of Squawk Box.
Possible implications:
1. Short-term volatility in GE due to investor concerns/overreactions (which is ridiculous, not a single analyst has anything negative to say about the deal), but this shouldn`t last long. I would expect a VERY VOLATILE day today in GE trading. Maybe early on the sellers will dominate, but perhaps we could have a HUGE rally this afternoon when the scaredy-cats realize that Jack will still be at the helm for another 14 months????!!!
2. If/when macro-economic issues (presidential election, oil, euro, middle-east, etc.) are taken care of, GE should be able to hit AT LEAST $70/share by year`s end, perhaps be at split levels (at or near $100/share) by Dec. 2001, IMHO. Maybe even higher with all the new investor/institution interest that will come about as a result of the HON acquisition.
3. It`ll be interesting to see whether any of the Top 3 CEO/Chairman replacements elect to stick it out with GE until end of 2001. Perhaps 1 or 2 of the ones who don`t feel they`ll be the successor will leave early?
4. Clearly, this GE/HON thing could not have been THE BIG DEAL/Jack`s swan song we were all hoping for since it was put together in less than 48 hours! Could something else big still be in the works BEFORE Jack quits? If that`s still possible, all I can say is, WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!! If something else comes about! LOL!
5. As zoidy pointed out the other day, shorts and bashers will probably be out on the message boards in FULL FORCE!!! Two words for everyone who`s long: IGNORE THEM!
This whole GE/HON thing is unreal! It`ll be great to watch it all unfold over the coming months. Should be a very interesting time for GE employees and shareholders.
Good trading to all. Myself, I`m going to be VERY careful on using my remaining switches, if I use them at all! Waaayyy to many unknowns out there right now!
skge
P.S. lkgeo1 is an idiot! And I hope he takes offense! LOL!
Also, a_bear - what`s up with Roger, man?! Throwing that broken bat back at Piazza?! Dude has got a temper! But he`s still TOO-TUFF!!
(Voluntary Disclosure: Position- Long; ST Rating- Strong Buy; LT Rating- Strong Buy)

Wie ich es sagte, GE 10% im Minus. Beim Umtausch 1:1 wird sich der Kurs noch an Honeywell angleichen müssen. Also derzeit: Finger weg von GE, besser HON kaufen!!
