Die Pharmos corp. hat ein gutes Portfeulio im Schrank. Auch die Zukunftsaussichten sehen sehr gut aus. Die Aktie fiel im allgemeinen Unwetter von 15 Euro auf 6,50 Euro. Das ist meiner Meinung ein guter Zeitpunkt für eine Neuinvestition. Ich steige Heute ein. Schaut auch mal bei yahoo/US oder WWW.silicon-net.rein. BOMBENWERT

Pharmos hat das Potential in einer richtigen Biotechhausse, wie ich sie noch dieses jahr erneut erwarte, wieder zu alten Hochs zu kommen!

The grant is available through fiscal year 2001, and will help offset increased expenses connected with the Company`s pivotal trial of dexanabinol.

``Pharmos has worked successfully with the Office of the Chief Scientist for many years, and we are gratified by the confidence they have exhibited in our development of dexanabinol as a treatment for TBI,`` said Haim Aviv, Ph.D., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. ``This grant will be especially helpful in defraying the costs of our large-scale clinical study underway in Europe and Israel, and beginning in the U.S. later this year.``

The current award is the largest single grant received by Pharmos to date from the Office of the Chief Scientist. Prior grants to help fund various R&D projects totaled approximately US$ 2.5 million at December 31, 2000. The Company is required to pay royalties to the Office of the Chief Scientist ranging from 2% to 5% of product sales, if any, that result from the research activities conducted with such funds.

Dexanabinol, the lead compound in the Company`s synthetic, non-psychotropic cannabinoid library, has displayed potent anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties in pre-clinical and Phase I and II studies. Currently no drug is approved to treat TBI, a leading cause of death and disability among young adults in the U.S. and worldwide. Estimates of the potential worldwide market size for such a product exceed $1 billion annually. Pharmos commenced its pivotal Phase III trial of dexanabinol for TBI in January 2001. Patient enrollment is underway in about 25 centers in Europe and Israel, and should begin in the U.S. later this year. In all, a total enrollment of approximately 860 patients is planned.

Pharmos to Start Clinical Trial of Dexanabinol in Heart Surgery Patients
ISELIN, N.J., July 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Pharmos Corporation (Nasdaq: PARS and Nasdaq Europe: PHRM) announced today it has received approval from Israel`s Ministry of Health to clinically test dexanabinol as a preventive agent against the mild cognitive impairment (MCI) that can follow coronary surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass (CS-CPB) operations. Patient enrollment in a Phase II study will commence upon the completion of various logistical preparations. No approved medication is currently available to prevent the onset of MCI after CS-CPB, which is among the most common operations performed in the world.

"The commencement of this study is an important strategic move that broadens our pipeline," said Haim Aviv, Ph.D., Pharmos Chairman and CEO. "The potential market is large and currently void of any product. At the same time, the large, relatively homogeneous patient population and elective nature of the surgery make the trial a fairly uncomplicated one for us."

Cognitive decline may develop following cardiac surgery as a result of microemboli-triggered ischemic events and related inflammatory processes. Pharmos` rationale in going forward with the clinical study lies in the convergence of the etiology of the indication with the mechanisms of action of dexanabinol as a neuroprotectant. As an important secondary outcome of the Company`s Phase II traumatic brain injury (TBI) trial, completed in 2000, patients treated with dexanabinol showed statistically significant improvement in cognition and orientation as measured by the Galveston Orientation and Amnesia Test (GOAT) at one, three and six months, compared to placebo. The improved outcome of these patients as measured by GOAT provides clinical evidence of dexanabinol`s therapeutic potential in preventing MCI. In preclinical findings, dexanabinol was an effective neuroprotectant in animal models of focal brain ischemia.

"Post-surgical MCI is a serious risk facing patients who need major heart surgery," said Seth Kindler, M.D., Medical Director of Pharmos. "For certain subsets of patients, the risk of cognitive impairment is significant, compromising recovery and adding to rehabilitation costs. Development of post-surgical MCI is also a known risk factor for the progression to Alzheimer`s Disease. Our objective in undertaking this study is to evaluate safety and to establish a trend of efficacy with dexanabinol in these patients."

About Post-Surgical MCI

Each year over one million patients worldwide undergo CS-CPB operations(1). In the United States, over 350,000 coronary artery bypass surgeries are performed each year(2), making it the most frequent major surgical procedure performed in hospitals. As mortality from these surgeries has fallen in recent years, medical attention has increasingly focused on morbidities associated with coronary surgeries, especially impairment of cognitive function experienced by a high percentage of these patients. Certain studies show that eight days after surgery as many as 50% of the patients may suffer cognitive defects(3), such as inability to concentrate, memory loss, a slowdown in response and difficulty in returning to pre-surgical functioning. Importantly, even after 12 months, cognitive deficits persist as a source of disability in as many as 30% of the patients(4). Recent long term longitudinal studies indicate that a significant proportion of patients may continue to deteriorate over time, with cognitive deficits continuing up to five years after surgery(5). As surgical technology advances, the average age of patients will continue to rise. Age and other factors, such as diabetes, affect the frequency of MCI.

About the Trial

The trial protocol has been finalized and the investigational review board at the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center has approved commencement of patient enrollment. The exploratory, Phase IIa, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial will enroll up to 200 patients undergoing CS-CPB. Patients will be randomized one-to-one to receive a single dose of either 150 mg. dexanabinol or placebo 30 to 60 minutes after the first thoracic incision and prior to initiation of CPB. Each patient will be evaluated prior to surgery, at discharge, six weeks, and three months following surgery to assess the incidence and degree of post-surgical MCI. Diagnosis of MCI will be based on criteria developed by the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer`s Disease Research Center. The degree of cognitive impairment will be assessed using a sophisticated and validated battery of computerized neuropsychological tests. Among other inclusion/exclusion criteria, patients included in the study will be age 60 or older who are candidates for elective CS-CBP and who do not show signs of MCI or dementia according to the Mayo Clinic Criteria prior to surgery.

The primary efficacy analysis will compare the incidence of development of MCI according to the Mayo criteria in the dexanabinol-treated group with the incidence in the placebo group. The additional neuropsychological secondary efficacy analyses will serve to evaluate and compare quality of life and assess additional functional outcome between the treated and placebo patients. An independent safety committee will monitor the data on an ongoing basis to ensure patient safety.

Pharmos hat Quartalsergebnisse rausgebracht. Die weisen zwar durchweg höhere Verluste aus (wegen gestiegener R&D-Aufwendungen), jedoch scheint bei dem Medikament Dexanabinol Entscheidenes anzustehen. Habe heute morgen zufällig gelesen, daß erst kürzlich herausgefunden wurde, daß eben jener Wirkstoff gegen Nervenschäden bei Kontakt mit Nervengas schützt. Darum dürfte jetzt auch klar sein, warum die israelische Regierung dieser Firma Millionenbeträge zur Unterstützung der Forschung zukommen läßt.....
Immerhin ein zweites Standbein, was sich aus den derzeitigen klinischen Testphasen (III) mit Dexanabinol entwickeln könnte.
Könnte mir gut vorstellen, daß Pharmos bald wieder aus dem Loch heraus ist!

Pharmos Corporation Receives Notice of Allowance for U.S. Patent

Protects Novel Dexanabinol Derivatives for Treatment of Neuroinflammatory and Neurodegenerative Disorders

ISELIN, N.J., Jun 10, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Pharmos Corporation (Nasdaq: PARS and Nasdaq Europe: PHRM) announced today it has received a Notice of Allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a patent application relating to the Company`s novel non-psychotropic cannabinoid platform technology.

"This patent broadens and protects the potential use of our technology in developing drugs for many neurological, cardiovascular and immunological clinical indications that involve inflammatory and degenerative pathological processes," said Haim Aviv, Ph.D., Chairman and CEO. The allowed claims cover novel synthetic dextrocannabinoids developed by Pharmos, including heterocyclic and amine derivatives of dexanabinol, and their use in the treatment of inflammatory disorders, neurodegenerative disorders, brain ischemia, autoimmune diseases and pain.

Due to their stereospecificity, the novel compounds lack binding activity at the two known cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, and as a result are devoid of psychotropic side effects seen with naturally occurring cannabinoids. Drug candidates in this family may exert their effects via a plurality of mechanisms and have been effective in preclinical models of a variety of indications including stroke, pain, multiple sclerosis and other disorders.

Compounds disclosed and claimed in this patent application may provide the basis for a stroke drug -- with preferred compounds such as PRS-211,092, PRS-211,095 and PRS-211,220 performing well as neuroprotectants in the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAo) model for this indication. These compounds both reduced the volume of the infarct following the ischemic insult and improved the functional recovery as assessed in the staircase test. Moreover, these compounds are effective in reducing the production of inflammatory mediators including enzymes, cytokines and chemokines. Such anti-inflammatory/immuno-modulating activity has wide ranging applications in a variety of pathological conditions. Der amerikanische Pharmahersteller Pharmos Corp. teilte am Dienstag mit, dass er von der amerikanischen Gesundheitsbehörde FDA den so genannten „Fast Track Status“ für sein neu entwickeltes Medikament zur Behandlung von traumatischen Gehirnverletzungen erhalten hat. Das Medikament befindet sich derzeit noch in der klinischen Erprobungsphase.

Bei dem Medikament mit der Bezeichnung Dexanabinol handelt es sich um ein Arzneimittel, welches zur Behandlung von Gehirnverletzungen eingesetzt wird, welche nach schweren Autounfällen auftreten und für die es bisher noch keine zuverlässigen Behandlungsmethoden gibt.

Die Gesundheitsbehörde gewährt das beschleunigte Prüfungsverfahren "Fast Track Status" solchen neuen Arzneimitteln, die zur Behandlung von lebensbedrohlichen Krankheiten dienen, für die es bisher keine Medikamente gibt, oder wenn der Zulassungskandidat eine bedeutende Verbesserung gegenüber bisher verfügbarer Behandlungsmethoden darstellt. Pharmos Shares Soar Amid Hope for Brain-Injury Drug

NEW YORK -- Pharmos Corp. (NasdaqSC:PARS - News) shares surged Monday, hitting a 52-week high, on the heels of a bullish research note by one Wall Street analyst who said he sees substantial market potential for its brain-injury drug.

The company`s lead traumatic brain-injury drug, Dexanabinol, is the sole treatment in a $1 billion market, said C.E. Unterberg analyst David Bouchey, who initiated coverage on the stock with a "buy" investment rating.

In his research note, Mr. Bouchey said there were 300,000 related hospital admissions each year in the U.S., with a similar number outside the country.

Dexanabinol is undergoing Phase III trials and is expected to complete the tests by the fourth quarter of 2004. Following positive results, Mr. Bouchey expects the drug to go to market by mid-2006 and reach world-wide sales of $500 million to $600 million by 2009. Positive data from Dexanabinol`s Phase II trials suggests Phase III tests should go smoothly, he added.

Dexanabinol represents a significant advantage over prior approaches in the treatment of brain injury, said Mr. Bouchey. Traumatic brain damage can cause calcium influx, inflammatory stimulation and oxygen radicals. The drug works to inhibit all three conditions.

Two weeks ago, the Food and Drug Administration (News - Websites) granted fast-track status to Dexanabinol. The agency typically awards the designation to drugs that treat serious and life-threatening conditions for which no other approved treatments exist.

Mr. Bouchey added there is potential for the drug to treat other forms of brain damage, further adding to its market opportunity.

He doesn`t own shares in the company, but C.E. Unterberg does have an investment-banking relationship.

Pharmos Chief Financial Officer Robert Cook said he was pleased with the note and that Mr. Bouchey`s estimates were in line with company expectations. "It was unexpected, but quite welcome," said Mr. Cook of the note. "We hope people will take notice and come to appreciate the work that we`ve done."

Around 12:20 p.m. EDT on the Nasdaq SmallCap Market, shares of Pharmos were up 69 cents, or 28%, at $3.17 on volume of 6.4 million shares. The daily average is 694,200

Hallo mahatma, ich verfolge Pharmos erst einige Tage. Die finanzielle Situation habe ich noch nicht analysiert.
Eigentlich hatte ich schon Ergebnisse zu den Phase 3 Versuchen erwartet. Doch da war ich wohl zu ungeduldig. Die Patientenerfassung soll aber bald abgeschloßen sein, so daß wir bald mit den Ergebnisse rechnen können. Ich kopiere noch mal kurz den Kommentar des Neuroinvestor hier rein.
