PROGNOSEN zum Südafrika-Deal für Met@box - 500 Beiträge pro Seite

Ähnlich meiner vorherigen Prognosen-Threads, möchte ich
alle Boardteilnehmer einladen, hier ihre Prognosen zu posten..
Dabei ist es egal, ob die Prognosen durch eigene Recherche, intuitiv oder sonstige
Maßnahmen bestimmt werden.

Diesmal unterscheiden wir nur in Optis (Optimisten) und Pessis (Pessimisten).

Für die Prognose Opti entscheiden sich die User, die noch im Frühjahr 2001
an einen fertigen Vertrag mit Südafrika glauben.
Für die Prognose Pessi entscheiden sich die User, die entweder nicht an einen
Vertrag (Platzer) oder noch lange nicht an ihn glauben.

Also, Opti oder Pessi, daß ist hier die Frage!
Vorschlag: Wer sich nicht entscheiden kann, sollte Pessi schreiben!

Wer seine Meinung ändert, kein Problem. Ein Hinweis und die letzte Prognose zählt.

Dieser Thread wird voraussichtlich über mehrere Tage laufen. Danach erfolgt die
Auswertung, die dann jedem User zum eigenem Nutzen zur Verfügung steht.



Hier noch zwei Aussagen (Auszüge), die ich gegenüberstellen möchte. Eine ist von
Domeyer, die andere von unserem interessanten Afrikaforscher Gösta.

Dieses Pilotprojekt ist auf zwei Monate angelegt und bietet die Basis für die Verhandlung einer
Partnerschaft zwischen der Telkom SA Limited und der Met@box AG mit dem Ziel, die Set-Top-Boxen und den entsprechenden Service im Rahmen eines landesweiten Roll-Outs in ganz Südafrika anzubieten.

Darüberhinaus wäre es besser, wenn man sich mit der Inaussichtstellung von einem Auftrag aus SA vornehm zurückhalten würde. Aber nein, die Testphase ist noch nicht vorüber und schon wird dem Aktionär der Mund wässrig gemacht. Herr Domeyer, wissen Sie wie lange man in Afrika um einen Auftrag verhandeln kann? Zweifellos wissen Sie es nicht, sonst würden Sie nicht solche kapitalen Böcke schießen. 1 bis 2 Jahre ist dort ganz normal, oft werden es 3 oder 5 Jahre und manchmal platzt die Seifenblase.

Glauben oder nicht Glauben - ist keine Frage -
oder etwa - nichts reales ist mir fremd???

Zwischen Glauben und Nicht Glauben gibt es in der Wirtschaft vor allem noch diejenigen,
die Ahnung, Erfahrung, Wissen und Kompetenz haben,
die ausser Glauben auch noch arbeiten, Erfolge, Vertraege, Umsatz erarbeiten
und diese Spezies -
ueberwiegend in der realen Welt zu Hause -
nennt sich Realisten !!!!

Vielleicht sollte man sich in dieser virtuellen Welt -
etwas mehr mit der Realitaet befassen -

oder ihr wenigstens soviel Spielraum, Akzeptanz und Moeglichkeiten einraeumen -
wie Glauben und nicht Glauben ( oder ist das schon Aberglauben??)

Also wenn schon solche Kinderspiele -

dann sollte wenigstens Platz sein, fuer diejenigen die sich noch ein Stueck Realitaet erhalten haben.

Am 31. März ist kalendarisch gerade mal der Winter eine gute Woche vorbei.
Wir könnten anläßlich dieses Datums hier prognostizieren, ob es bis dahin Graetz-TV geben wird, die für den Winter angekündigt wurden.

Nur eine Woche Frühjahr finde ich zu knapp.
Dann mutiere ich vorsichtshalber zum PESSI.

Neben den Optis und Pessis gibt es auch noch die Faktos.
Zu letzteren zähle ich mich.
Mein Kursziel: 2€, wenns gut geht 3€.
Das wäre der gerechte Kurs, weil sowohl alle bisher kreiierten
Metaboxen nahezu unverkäuflich waren,als auch der Verkaufserfolg
der neuesten (unfertigen) Box in den Sternen steht.
Nach der versteckten Gewinnwarnung bezüglich Amstrad sieht es
noch schlechter aus - (Dollarkurs) - , S.D. hat nun fast gar
keine positiven hardfacts mehr, alles löst sich mehr und mehr
im Nebel der mittlerweile herbe enttäuschten Fantasien auf.
Wer da glaubt, daß da in diesem Jahr noch etwas kommt, der irrt
meiner Meinung nach, auch wenn es immer wieder Leute gibt, die
dem letzten Müll noch etwas positives abgewinnen können.
Wie ich bereits mehrmals postete: Alles Hinhaltetaktik,
Metabox läuft sowohl bei der Entwicklung als auch bei der Gewinnung
von Kunden die Zeit davon. No future!
Nächstes Jahr um diese Zeit wird es die Metabox AG in der jetzigen
Form m.E. nicht mehr geben.
Ich habe ein begründetes Gefühl im Bauch, daß es so kommen wird.

Südafrika war mir jetzt aus bestimmten Gründen wichtiger.
Mal sehen wie dieser Thread hier wird. Wird er gut angenommen,
kann man alle anderen Projekte durchgehen. Das Konzept muß
stimmen.

Irrtum! Da steht nirgendwo eine Box rum. Habe
überall nachgesehen und war in jeder Ecke der Pyramide.
Habe auch keine Symbole von Full Screen gesehen. Gibts da
nämlich nicht. Enttäuscht?

Aber dafür wird kräftig verteilt. Wenn nach Israel geliefert
wird. Ich glaube nicht, daß sofort in jedem Haushalt eine Box
stehen wird. Vielleicht wandert ein Teil des Auftrages nach
Ägypten.

ave vishnu. du hast mich gebeten über die leute was zu sagen: es gibt schwarzafrika und südafrika und dazwischen sind welten, daß sagt dir nicht nur das pro kopf einkommen. südafrika ist kein 3rd world country. meine sehr enge beziehung zum land bestätigt noch schnellere vertagsabwicklungen als hier in deutschland. in südafrika hat man mit nokias schon telefoniert als es sie hier praktisch noch gar nicht gegeben hat. vor 3 jahren hatte praktisch jeder schon ein cell phone, ob geklaut oder gekauft... da kommen wir in deutschland erst jetzt hin. diese hochentwickelte industrienation leidet selbstverständlich unter kriminalität und rassenprobleme, aber gerade diese profitable gegend wird vom blausternverein dirigiert, sodaß langsam aber sicher die chase manhattan bank auf ihre rechnung kommt - und nicht etwa schwarze oder weiße die dort wohnen. die riesigen eisen, chrom, platin, uran, diamanten, kohle, gas und gold vorkommen plus ein riesiges reservoir an früchte und meeresprodukte haben ein detailiertes infratruktusnetz entwickeln lassen. mit der außenwelt wird gehandelt und kommuniziert. südafrikaner leben gut weil sie geld haben. wie man zu geld kommt: die devise heißt heute handeln und nicht morgen. die telkom südafrika ist die einzige telkom in ganz afrika - nur eine frage der zeit bis das offiziell wird - und das wissen auch die blackies in südafrika daß es ihnen besser geht als ihre nachbarn. met@box hat keine schwierigkeiten mit gewerkschaften und umweltbehörden - schwierigkeiten die für die technisch so wichtigen schwerindustrie firmen aus deutschland zutreffen würden. südafrika war für firmen wie mannesmann demag, siemens, vw, mercedes, bmw ein investment mit guter rendite weil der markt modern, komplex und keine traditionen hat. die einzige tradition - die apartheid - hat jeden ein haufen geld gebracht. die apartheid wurde von den winkelmännern gegründet und auch abgeschafft, und das immer im sinne eines profits... also, keiner hat gesagt daß es keine tote geben wird. geld und moralische regeln spielten in südafrika nie eine rolle - hauptsache die anschaffung FUNKTIONIERT UND WIRD ÖFFENTLICH ALS LUXUSGUT DEKLARIERT. transnet hat sich dort schon ein goldene nase verdient - und das ohne telkom!

Was ich damit sagen wollte: Man sollte sich von Südafrika nicht zuviel versprechen! Die Infrastruktur (Telefonleitungen) ist noch nicht gegeben, die einzige Methode wären Satellitenzugänge.

Ich danke allen Mitwirkenden für Ihre Prognose.
Es sieht so aus, als wenn das Interesse rapide nachgelassen hat.
Offensichtlich kann sich bei diesem Prognosekonzept niemand so recht
profilieren (z.B. es gibt hier kein Tagesgewinner, der extra Erwähnung findet).

Nun zu meiner Prognose.

Ich fühle mich seit Tagen wie der User Gösta (ein Meister der Nuancen) unlängst schrieb:
„.nur jetzt ist plötzlich der Henkel ab und die Tasse fällt aus der Hand.“

Zur Beachtung: der Henkel ruht noch in der Hand und die Tasse ist noch nicht zerbrochen!

Ich sehe den Traum von Domeyer.
Aus guten Grund werte ich Psimans Aussage „Opti und nachkaufen“ doppelt.
Dennoch kann ich, als Vielgereister, und um einiges Erfahrener was Metabox angeht,
nur hoffen. Aber Glauben ist vorbei.

Darum gibt es von mir einen Pessi!

The Witwatersbasin around Johannesburg has one of the richest gold deposits in the world. However, agriculture and the automotive industry also play an important role in the economic growth of the country.
Even though the high rate of unemployment presents a serious problem, the prognosis for the economic development of the country is positive - something that can be partly attributed to the large investments made by foreign companies.

Relations
South Africa is a member of the Commonwealth and the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), the Southern African Development Community and has a seat in the general assembly of the United Nations. At the moment, negotiations are on the way with the European Union regarding a possible trade agreement, which should give South Africa greater access to the European markets. During the last couple of years, South Africa has also shown the ability and determination to play an important role in solving critical situations in Africa.
The Republic of South Africa is represented in more than 160 countries by its embassies, while about 150 countries and 22 international organisations are represented in South Africa.

Shopping
For the shop-a-holic who has enough money to spare, a paradise of shopping malls is waiting, where the client can choose from a multitude of products under one roof. The country`s biggest shopping centre is situated at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
Furthermore, flea markets are being organised - especially on weekends - all over the country. Anything from household goods to traditional African artwork can be found here. There are also many street vendors, who sell all sorts of products - from newspapers to groceries to hand-made baskets.

Voltage and Electricity
The electricity capacity totals a production of more than 39 750 000kW. This is increasing under the government`s Reconstruction and Development Programme.
Current: 220/230V alternating current, 50 Hertz. Travellers are advised to obtain 3-point "plug-adapters" as soon as they arrive in the country.

Telkom welcomes the appointment of joint global co-ordinators

Telkom has welcomed the appointment of joint global co-ordinators for its initial public offering (IPO) process, which was announced by the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) in Pretoria today.

"The appointment of Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan as the joint global co-ordinators has taken Telkom`s IPO process a tangible step forward, and we look forward to assisting the co-ordinators wherever we can to ensure a smooth and successful process," said Telkom`s Chief Executive Officer, Sizwe Nxasana.

He added that Telkom had made good progress regarding the appointment of its financial and legal advisors, which would work closely with Government`s global co-ordinators in the run-up to the IPO.

"We are currently evaluating bids for both the financial and legal advisors, and we are aiming to announce the successful bidders during the first half of December," said Nxasana

Telkom surges ahead with the deployment of new technologies

The past financial year has seen Telkom surging ahead with its programme to implement cutting-edge technologies, to meet increasing customer demand for bandwidth and enhanced products.

Speaking during today`s release of its annual results, Telkom`s CEO, Sizwe Nxasana, said the Company had grown data and multimedia revenues by 39% to R3,5 billion in 1999/2000. He attributed this growth to increased customer demand, product enhancements, the development of additional sales channels, price reductions on data and internet-based products, and the ongoing expansion of the ISDN and Diginet customer base.

"Bandwidth availability, one of the drivers behind the current convergence of the telecommunications, information technology and broadcasting industries, remains a key focus for Telkom. The total number of 2Mb circuits grew by 53% in 1999/2000, with even higher growth of 78% in ISDN primary rate services," said Nxasana

"ISDN services have consistently shown exceptional growth since the commercial launch in April 1995, and are now growing at an average rate of 7% per month. The key factors behind our ISDN success were the cuts in monthly rental rates in both 1999 and 2000, and the increase in availability of basic rate ISDN in the network to 96%," he added.

Nxasana said Telkom had piloted new technologies like Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), which had the potential to increase the capacity of Telkom`s optical fibre networks by 40 times in the next two years. Both these capacity-enhancing technologies are being tested in limited pilot applications.

"Apart from that, we`ve upgraded the transport network with the latest synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) equipment over optic fibre self-healing rings, and started deploying ATM technology extensively across the country in 1999. Our core ATM network now covers practically all the major metropolitan areas," said Nxasana.

He explained that this technology had an important role to play in the evolution of Telkom`s network, as it provided a sound platform from which to support Internet Protocol. A growing number of corporate customers were migrating towards ATM, as part of an ongoing process that Telkom would accelerate as part of its technological deployment, sales, marketing and customer service initiatives

Nxasana added that the re-launch of Telkom`s FrameRelay product as FrameExpress in June 1999, which was accompanied by network view enhancements and a price reduction, and the launch in October of Cybertrade, its e-commerce solution, were two important milestones in Telkom`s data product offerings.

"Telkom also assisted in pioneering delivery of the first online lottery in Africa. We provided a 950-site VSAT (very Small Aperture Terminal) satellite backbone from March 2000 for the licensed national lottery network operator, Uthingo, including those in the remotest parts of the country," he said.

"Early in the new financial year, we will begin the migration towards a Next Generation Network (NGN) that will support one connection capable of handling voice, data and video, making the virtual office a reality," said Nxasana. "Through this connection, customers will have access to high bandwidth and optimum availability, while being able to manage their communication devices, whether fax, phone, modem or data lines, through just one phone number."

Nxasana explained that Telkom`s National Network Operations Centre (NNOC) would be an integral part of these changes, with plans already in place to introduce new support systems that would allow the synergy created by the NNOC to be exploited to the full as the network evolved.

He said that the signing in June 1999 of an agreement on the SAT-3 WASC SAFE cable project had paved the way for an undersea optical fibre system that would cater for Sub-Saharan Africa`s burgeoning telecommunications needs for the next decade .



"This US$600 million project has brought together 40 nations and some of the world`s most influential telecommunications players. Expected to be fully operational in December 2001, this system will stretch nearly 30 000 kilometres and will link Africa to Europe and Asia.

"It consists of an 80 gigabit link, with capacity equal to 960 000 simultaneous (non-compressed) telephone conversations, and the cost of transmission is significantly less than that of a comparable satellite transmission," said Nxasana.

He added that one of the major benefits of the project was that it would be owned, controlled and maintained by the individual operators

"Whereas nearly 80 percent of Africa`s telecommunications revenue currently flows out of the continent, revenue generated by the African operators will remain in Africa - which is critical to the economic development of the continent as a whole."

Telkom SA -Vsat Services within the Africa Continent

SYNOPSIS:

Major political changes worldwide and the demise of the apartheid system of government in South Africa have exposed South Africa to the hitherto inaccessible markets. With this, Telkom SA has come face to face with as much opportunities as there are pitfalls However, Telkom has come to terms with the fact that its continued existence and growth lies in its involvement with the other African telecommunication administrations and operators. In our continent, lack of financial muscle places severe constraints on various telcos` ability to establish adequate and modern telecommunications infrastructure. Telkom therefore makes some of its telecommunications infrastructure available for use by other African telcos with the hope of jointly uplifting the continent`s telematics service provision within the shortest possible time. In this regard, Telkom`s offering are the SPACESTREAM and INFOSPACE satellite based solutions.

A futuristic look into an African Information Superhighway is also briefly touched.

1. INTRODUCTION

Telkom`s corporatisation process and the possibility of privatisation has led to a drastic cultural change within the organisation to adopt a market driven and customer focused attitude.

Multinational corporations in Sub-Sahara Africa are increasingly demanding technologies that improve communications and data transfer ability between their various scattered branch offices throughout the continent. Telkom has therefore identified satellite based solutions to speedily address these needs. Telkom`s SPACESTREAM and INFOSPACE provide network solutions to business data networks for major companies and/or to the backbone of a basic telecommunications service in rural areas.

2. SPACESTREAM:

2.1 The mission:

The SPACESTREAM mission is to provide reliable, managed and cost-effective satellite networks in order to ensure efficient on-line wide area network communications.

2.2 What is SPACESTREAM:
SPACESTREAM is based on VSAT technology and has been adopted by Telkom SA as a solution to telematic service requirements throughout Sub Sahara Africa. Telkom owns and operates two full - service SPACESTREAM shared hubs based at the

Hartebeesthoek Satellite Earth Station near Pretoria. Three more hubs are planned, two for Hartebeesthoek and one for Cape Town. The SPACESTREAM footprint covers the whole of Sub-Sahara Africa.

3. TELEMATICS SERVICES AND BUSINESS APPLICATION

Telkom is able to offer through SPACESTREAM X. 25, Frame Relay, ISDN and dedicated leased line services to multinational corporations in Africa and elsewhere for their electronic messaging, data transfer and Value Added Services. Telkom has close to 500 private leased circuits to African states providing narrowband and broadband connectivity via satellite and terrestrial links. This number can easily double within the shortest possible time with improved network provision. The IPSS (X.25) service exists between South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. Though not yet established with other African countries, Telkom offers the public e-Mail service called Telkom 400, which is based on the international X400 standard. This public network service enables companies to link their private e-Mail networks to those of other national and international e-Mail networks. There are currently 24 Telkom 400 international connections providing e- Mail and EDI services.

4. INFOSPACE

4.1 INFOSPACE mission:

INFOSPACE mission is to support economic development by increasing user access to education, training and information resources through the application of advanced communications technologies that generate significant cost savings and service improvements especially in areas with inadequate telecommunications infrastructure and funding.

4.2 What is INFOSPACE:

INFOSPACE is a solution that allows for multi-media applications by use of SPACE- STREAM infrastructure. It cost effectively delivers high quality voice, video, text and data information to the end-user.

4.3 INFOSPACE Goal:

Telkom`s goal is to build, operate and maintain an efficient and effective regional and international telecommunications network to provide equitable access to education, training, and information resources to all communities in Sub-Sahara Africa.

4.4. The targeted market:

The market is all encompassing; private, educational, governmental, NGOs, business, urban and rural communities.

5.0 TELKOM`S OFFER TO AFRICA - SPACESTREAM & INFOSPACE

Telkom offers to all its sister African telcos the use of its vast SPACESTREAM (VSAT) resource based in South Africa. Furthermore, Telkom offers complete turnkey solutions, viz:


* network design and implementation.
* installation and maintenance.
* satellite transponder capacity engineering.
* shared or dedicated network operation and management.
* training.
* backup maintenance.
To date constructive bilateral negotiations have been undertaken between Telkom and telcos of Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Rwanda and Swaziland regarding shared use of the Telkom`s SPACESTREAM facility. In West Africa a major contract has been concluded to install, commission and manage a nationwide VSAT network using Telkom`s shared hub.
5.1 Benefits to Africa

* Rapid VSAT solution rollout especially in areas where no appropriate infrastructure exists.

6.0 THE AFRICAN TELEWAY

The information superhighway concept is soon to be a reality whether or not we in Africa like it. It therefore is time for all African telcos to pool our resources together in order to respond to this challenge that threatens our very existence. Coordinated planning, upgrading and exploitation of our networks is the only strength at our disposal to fend off this threat. Telkom SA has a relatively developed telecommunications network within its borders. It also is upgrading to digital all its terrestrial links to neighbouring countries. Furthermore, Telkom has the optic fibre submarine cable, SAT- 2, linking South Africa to Europe planned as well is the SIT-1 submarine cable that will link South Africa to Australia. Together with its vast array of satellite dishes, South Africa is well positioned to provide adequate and reliable transit facilities to meet all Sub-Sahara African transit needs.

A pooled effort among all African telcos and RASCOM could lead to our very own information superhighway-THE AFRICAN TELEWAY- that may enhance development of our continent.

7.0 Conclusion

In this brief paper it has been shown that telematics service provision in Africa can be provided cost effectively through the use of satellite shared hub facility, and that the future of Africa lies in cooperation among various African telcos.

ich habe oben gesagt daß telkom sa die einzige telkom in afrika ist. das oben ist lediglich die ausführung die das bestätigt. weiters wirst du finden daß die deutsche bank auch hinter der telkom mit viel geld steht. die bereits bestehende infrastruktur bis nach australien (diese ist nicht die einzige) ist gold wert. met@box hat nur ein klitze kleines problem: kohlensäcke! alles andere ist, sowie alles in südafrika, ein gottes geldsegen.

Auswertung:
Eindeutig überwiegen die Optimisten. Bis zum 20.06.01 wird mit großer Mehrheit ein abgeschlossener Vertrag in Südafrika erwartet.
