S.

Saccard,
habe gestern noch was gefunden:
Gruss

Magnesium Corp makes global mark

AUSTRALIAN Magnesium Corporation took steps towards becoming the world`s top magnesium producer with plans to raise $1.6 billion in debt and equity.
AMC chairman Roland Williams said the company would within five or six years be the world`s leading magnesium producer.
Managing director Creagh O`Connor added that AMC`s new Queensland plant would earn revenue of more than $500 million by 2007.
"In the future we see a vastly different company," Mr O`Connor said. "A company that by 2007 should be producing from the magnesium plant itself revenue of over half a billion dollars, earnings before interest cash depreciation of over $300 million and profit after tax of over $130 million."
The Stanwell Magnesium Project, near Rockhampton in central Queensland, was expected to produce 90,000 tonnes per annum.
To fund it, AMC today launched a $680 million global equity offer, on top of its $932 million underwritten debt package, finalised this week.
Dr Williams said AMC would lodge a prospectus with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission within two weeks, with a minimum subscription set at $3000.
JB Were was the Australian public offer and international institutional book-building issue`s global co-ordinator, along with Merrill Lynch and ABN Amro Rothschild as joint lead managers.
With a 62 per cent holding, Normandy Mining Ltd is the major shareholder of AMC, although Mr O`Connor said the gold company`s holding would be diluted to about 20 per cent.
AMC hoped to begin site works at Stanwell in October 2001, and start project commissioning in 2003.
The $1.3 billion plant should start producing magnesium in mid-2004.
Mr O`Connor said the $230 million difference between the cost of the facility and the $1.7 billion the company hopes to raise through the debt and equity issues would be used as contingency funding.
"We can withstand uncertainty that might arise in the future," he said.
With strong global demand for magnesium - largely thanks to the automotive industry - Mr O`Connor was confident the company would not need to call on the contingency.
Ford Motor Company also had made a 10-year deal to buy 45,000 tonnes per annum, representing about half the plant`s output.
Dr Williams said the company was confident that world-wide demand for magnesium would grow to about one million tonnes by the end of the decade, and therefore AMC would not seek out any more supply contracts.
Having run a demonstration and research plant for some years, the company was also sure of keeping operating costs to about US50 cents per pound, "by far the lowest in the world".
"Over 40 per cent of that is underwritten by a long-term contract for power with Stanwell, and the contract itself is up to 30 years long," Mr O`Connor said.
AMC had also signed a 15-year power agreement with Stanwell Corporation Ltd, whose power station was located next door to the magnesium plant.
